Linda was born in Swindon. Her family moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire when she was nine, and Linda attended the local school but left at fifteen to work as a hairdresser in her father's business. She was married at eighteen and ran her own hairdressing business for some years before moving to Cambridge, although Linda has now moved to somewhere a bit quieter in Cambridgeshire. She started writing in 1976, combining this with helping her husband to run his antique shop.
Writing as Anne Herries, Linda won the 2004 RNA Romance Award and the Betty Neels Trophy. She lives in Cambridgeshire. After many happy years of taking their holidays in Spain she and her husband, now have a second home in Norfolk. Being only a short drive, they can visit for a few days at a time, which suits their busy lifestyle these days. They are only just across the road from the sea, and can see it from their windows. At home and at the sea they enjoy watching the wildlife and have many visitors to their gardens, particularly squirrels. Anne loves watching their antics and spoils both them and her birds shamelessly. She also loves to see the flocks of geese and other birds flying in over the sea during the autumn, to winter in the milder climes of this country. Anne loves to write about the beauty of nature and sometimes puts a little into her books, though they are mostly about love and romance. She writes for her own enjoyment and to give pleasure to her readers.

This book was very slow, and even though books involving amnesia are usually my favorite, in this book the amnesia had no purpose, and the plot developments at the end were too much. It's as if the author wants to fit too much into one book and thereby doesn't succeed with any of it. This book is tam, has no or little passion. I would have gotten more suspence and excitement from reading a cooking recipe. It was good enough to read to the end (in the hope that it would get better) but no more than that. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and it has made me want to stay away from this author in the future.

IL FRUTTO PROIBITO racconta la storia di un amore sbocciato sinceramente e impetuosamente fuori dalle scene, in quanto l'incontro tra i due protagonisti, che apre la storia, è segnato subito dal conflitto. Robert di Melford è il figlio di un ricco signore, ma ben lontano dall'aristocratica famiglia dei Whitbread. Melissa e Robert si amano, ma il terribile padre di lei ordina alla ragazza di troncare ogni rapporto con l'uomo, minacciandola di eliminarlo, grazie all'appoggio del fratellastro bastardo di lei, che racchiude ovviamente il male assoluto.
Robert non riesce a credere al tono freddo e scostante con cui Melissa rompe la loro relazione e quando poco dopo viene aggredito da alcuni scagnozzi e dal fratello di lei, questi lo sfigura e lo lascia in fin di vita. A salvarlo interverrà Owain, un vecchio uomo di fiducia della ragazza, che nasconde un oscuro segreto nel suo passato. Mentre la ragazza lotta contro la volontà di un padre che non l'ha mai amata e che vorrebbe usarla per stringere alleanze, Robert, ripresosi dall'aggressione, da una svolta alla sua vita, unendosi agli uomini di Enrico VII, che rivendica il trono di Inghilterra contro l'oscuro usurpatore Riccardo III.
Il problema della storia nasce dalla rapidità degli eventi, in quanto dalla ferita quasi mortale al ritorno trionfante in patria passano solo pochi mesi e tutto appare piuttosto forzato. Nel frattempo Enrico trionfa e con lui i suoi fedelissimi, ovvero anche Robert di Melford. La ruota del destino ha fatto un giro vorticoso e Enrico VII ordina a Robert di conquistare il castello di Whitbread, seguace di Riccardo, e Leominster, il promesso sposo di Melissa.
Il ritorno di Robert nella vita di Melissa è velato di amarezza e sospetti, in quanto la ragazza ancora lo ama, ma lui sembra accecato dal risentimento e dalla rabbia, anche se non è immune alla sua bellezza che rischia di farlo perdere ancora.
La storia è interessante e ben articolata (ad eccezione di qualche perplessità), ma quello che ho poco gradito è lo stile dell'autrice che in alcuni punti appare piuttosto affrettata, frutto di un taglio o di una sua incapacità di raccontare. Un esempio per tutti è la descrizione dell'aggressione di Robert che viene presentata agli occhi dei lettori come una forma di riassunto affrettato, invece di esserci mostrato dall'autrice. Inoltre l'amore di Robert per Melissa è spesso veicolato o asservito agli occhi, in quanto tutto quello che sa dire della donna che il suo cuore ha amato e che segretamente ancora ama è che "è bellissima" e che bisogna vederla per capire. Onestamente ho trovato riduttivo e avvilente limitarsi a presentare l'amore solo come una forma di stupore adolescenziale di fronte a un bel corpo e a un bel viso.
Peccato perché io sono un'amante delle storie; adoro quando le autrici riescono ad articolare qualcosa di più interessante del solito schema: "Lei incontra lui, si piacciono, c'è un ostacolo, lo superano e si sposano". Mi piacciono i racconti, dove l'amore entra predominante, ma che fa parte di un quadro molto più complesso e ricco. È probabile che leggerò ancora qualcosa della Herries se troverà un libro con una bella trama, ma al momento la mia valutazione è piuttosto fredda.

An enjoyable OK. Perhaps best to turn off the brain, the plot is loose as hell and characters seem to change their personalities to suit the plot in any given moment but meh, like I said brain off and it's a fun read. And maybe I drifted a bit, but I totally missed the part when the hero found it in himself to forgive the heroine. He just blurts out 'I forgave you long ago' and I my reaction was 'What? Since when?'
