I've been watching F1 since the beginning of the Schumacher era and attended 3 Grand Prix races. That doesn't suggest that I'm an expert in the sport by any stretch, but maybe gives other readers some sense of my understanding of the sport. You would expect a book on F1 technology to be a dry read and at times it certainly was.

The book is initially broken down into car components, (e.g. chassis, suspension, brakes, etc.) The early chapters seemed frustratingly focused on technology that was ultimately outlawed by 2022 regs. Finally, Chapter 7 on the "Power Unit" really grabbed my attention and was more of what I was hoping for with this book. There was, however, a lot of repetition as you read through each chapter. Possibly that was necessary due to the interaction of various components on each other, however, it really seemed to negatively impact the flow.

Overall, I did learn quite a few technical aspects of F1 design that made this book a worthwhile read and I think would add to the enjoyment for any enthusiast who follows the sport closely. The 3-star rating may be a bit unfair for a technical piece but reflects what I felt was more like a homework reading assignment than literature that keeps you turning each page to see what happens next.

Very educational and very technical in places, but all bases covered.
