This novel contains an exciting excerpt from J.L. Bryan's bestselling novel, Jenny Pox. About the Courtney Cole is a YA novelist who loves thunderstorms, cake batter and insane amounts of coffee. She wrote her first story at the age of 9, although thankfully it has remained hidden away in an old cedar chest beneath musty blankets. Her more recent efforts are much better.
What's more awesome than ancient Egypt? Why, Greek mythology of course! And what's more awesome than Greek mythology? FREAKIN' KING ARTHUR AND CAMELOT, THAT'S WHAT!
Man, these books just keep getting better and better. More romance, more intrigue, more action-this series is literally just such a joy to read. Not only is the story simply amazing, but it is just so great to read about beloved characters and places that are already well loved. Courtney Cole just fills this book to the brim with awesomeness!
*sighs happily* Have I mentioned how much I love this series?
There has never been a series that has given me as many goosebumps, made me want to scream for joy, and cry for lost ones. This was another great book in the Bloodstone Saga, and once again Courtney Cole has inspired me to dig deeper and find out more about the histories she includes in her stories. There are very few authors who can create worlds that intersect with real life history and mythology who can make it realistic, interesting, and believable. Cole does this in all of the books I have read in this series.
In book one the main characters were in ancient Egypt, and book two took place in the mythological world of ancient Greece. This third novel in the saga still maintains the mythological Grecian world which holds the true identity of the main characters, but in order to save her husband, Cadmus, Harmonia has to transport back to the England of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. She takes her mother and father, Ares, God of War, and Aphrodite, Goddess of Love. Ares and Aphrodite take the roles of Lancelot and Guinevere, while Harmonia becomes Heleyne. Although in real time Cadmus's spirit is trapped away from his body in the spiritlands, during this book Harmonia is able to be with him again. He is living the life of one of the knights, Lucan. While Ares, Aphrodite, and Harmonia all now recognize their true roles as god and goddesses, Cadmus as Lucan does not know his true identity.
It is a little confusing to describe for those not familiar with the story. It has only been a little over a month since I read the last story, and there were still parts that I wish I had reread so that I could remind myself how some of the secondary characters related to one another. Still, even with a basic plotline that sounds a bit confusing, I never felt confused as I was reading. Every role made perfect sense in the course of the story.
I was glad to see Cadmus in this story in the role of Lucan. Because he is essentially dead to the world, there was potential that this book would not contain any of the wonderful relationship of Harmonia and Cadmus other than her drive to save him from the spiritlands. I really loved reading about Harmonia and Lucan when Lucan was forced to forget any of his past relationship with Harmonia in order to save himself and correct the damage done by the Fates to the world of King Arthur. In all of the books in this series we see Harmonia and Cadmus, whether as themselves or in another role, already in the middle of a well established relationship. In this instance, however, Lucan does not know who Harmonia really is, other than a maiden from the castle who he needs to protect. There were some sweet interactions between the two of them as Harmonia recognized his true identity and her great love for him while Lucan only approached her with the honor he would use toward any young woman. However, the more time that they spend together, the more I could see that he was drawn to Harmonia naturally. They were meant to be together, and he could sense it, I think.
There was a big revelation about a new relationship in the lives of Harmonia and Cadmus that had been hidden from them, and this revelation showcases exactly how manipulative and vindictive these horrible Fates were. This new relationship will be a big part of the last book in this saga, it seems, and I can't wait to see how Harmonia and Cadmus work together to make everything in their lives right finally.
This installment in the saga was extremely well-written, as were the first two books. There is a lot of imagery that helps to create an atmosphere for the story that draws me in as a reader. There is just the right amount of scenes of danger and creepiness -- not too much or too little. Too much of that turns me off as a reader, but too little would not allow me to truly understand what a difficult situation Harmonia found herself in. There was also just enough romance to illustrate the deep love Harmonia and Cadmus share. It is interesting in these books that although Harmonia and Cadmus are soul mates and share this deep love for one another, the two of them are not necessarily in tons of romantic scenes together. There isn't really a need to blatently show just how in love they are. It is extremely obvious simply by seeing the way the two of them interact. Harmonia doesn't need to spend paragraph after paragraph proclaiming her love for this man. She does, of course, mention often her love for him and her attraction to him, but it isn't over done in any way. I feel their love more for the subtle way they show it rather than any outward sign that is thrown in my face. It is beautiful to read a love story told in this subtle way.
This series is one that I highly recommend. It tells a great story of love, but it also tells a story of overcoming the trials life sends us. Harmonia, Cadmus, Ares, and Aphrodite have been manipulated throughout the centuries, but they will find a way to triumph in the end. It is a story of the eventual triumph of good over evil. This book in particular shows the power of love as Harmonia must decide whether or not to sacrifice herself to save those around her from a life of darkness and destruction. It is a wonderful story, and I cannot wait to see how the series ends in the final installment next year. For now, I am happy to reacquaint myself with the stories of King Arthur so that I can reread this story soon with a deeper knowlege than I had before.
So those of you who have been following me for a while now will probably know that I LOVE this series! I think I may in fact have a blogger crush on Courtney Cole's characters (and yes I just totally made up the phrase blogger crush!!)
So this is the third book in The Bloodstone Saga, there is no massive re-cap of book two. Which I'm grateful for, I don't really like massive re-caps. Just enough to jog my memory is fine with me! I was quickly reminded of book two ended and how shocked I was at the ending! Thankfully book three picks up right at the scene book two finished!
With My Last Breath finds our leading lady Harmonia in Camelot looking for the sword in the stone in order to save her soul mate and restore Olympus. I really love how there is a totally different setting in each book of The Bloodstone saga. In book one we were in ancient Egypt, in book two we were in the land of greek gods and in this one Camelot! Where on earth is book four going to be set?!
This time around we see Harmonia facing some pretty massive challenges, not only does she have the mammoth task of finding the sword, but she also faces some real personal challenges as well. Does she tempt fate and risk changing the world as she knows it in order to help a few people in this one, or should she stand by and watch people die to keep the world balanced. She also has so much anger inside her at the fates for what they have put her though all these years, now that she finally knows the truth what should she do about it?
Once again there is a bit of a twist in this book. Even though I've come to expect twists in each book in this series, I still never see it coming! This one came as a complete shock to me! I'm not going to say exactly what happens as I know this book isn't due out for a couple of weeks yet. But lets just saw WOW and leave it at that!
I honestly cannot believe how much research and hard work must have gone into this book. The reader is thrown straight into Camelot, the descriptions of the buildings, surrounding lands, food and even the clothes are exactly what I would have imagined Camelot to be like. I actually couldn't stop myself thinking of the BBC programme Merlin every time someone was mentioned!
Overall I loved this book. Out of the whole series so far this one is by far my favourite! I am so excited to see where the next book is going to be set and also to find out how Harmonia's story will end!
I have thought back and forth about how I could easily describe this book, and I keep coming back to "WOW"... because it really is a WOW.
If you have just found this book and haven't yet read the first two...stop right now, walk directly to your nearest Kindle store :) and download Every Last Kiss. Begin the journey there and I promise you, you will enjoy it immensely as you trek though an enchanting, beautiful tale set in Ancient Egypt. Then, in the blissful wake of Book 1, follow the well crafted path that leads you to Fated and lose yourself in the mythical and magical land of Greek Gods and Goddesses. Then and only then, close your eyes, take a deep breath and dive deeply into a most beautiful love story continued - With My Last Breath.
Ms Cole has done it again. Not only has she done it again, she's done it even better.
With exceptionally talented and poetically written imagery and emotion, this book begins moments after the heart wrenching cliff hanger of Fated and literally takes your breath away as you read some of the most emotion filled moments of a heart coming undone in the fear of a love lost forever. But hope is not lost, as you'll find the journey takes us further into the love story of Harmonia and Cadmus, and drops you directly into the legendary land of Camelot.
Yes... I know... I'll pause for a second while you *squee* with delight and read that again...I.said.CAMELOT! ( I know!! ) Of all the beautiful, enchanting and magical places of long ago, of course this tale should take you to Camelot. You should expect nothing less. In fact, expect more.
While maintaining the true essence and heart of the Legend of King Arthur, his beloved Guinevere, Lancelot and the kingdom of Camelot, this story is woven beautifully with in those well known stories we have come to love and adds a new and exciting chapter you'll cherish as well.
This is by far the best book of the series thus far, which is an incredible feat given how exceptional the first two were. I am still trying to "catch my breath" from the experience of reading such an incredibly well written, stunningly beautiful book. A well deserved 5 stars. I'm excited and impatient to continue this journey in book 4. Where it will lead next, I don't know, but I can not wait to lose myself in it's pages and I am absolutely certain it.will.be.epic.
Just when I thought this series can't get any better it did! I loved this book. I really enjoyed the adventure in fighting for the one that you love till death.
Nothing motivate someone more than saving the life of the one that you love. I really like that the main characters go deeper than ever before not only psychically but emotional as well. The strength that her loved one gave her is enduring. As the reader steps in another action packed plot line Harmonia (Macy) set out on a adventure to restore what she lost.
The best part of these book is the well written, descriptive writing Ms. Cole gives her readers. There is nothing like a great book with such great writing that is does none other than pull you into another place, an other time. The plot line is filled with many different emotions, twist that all you can do is hold your breath and scream!
Again, the love interest. I LOVE a good love story. These two characters fight so hard to find each other. The reader can tell right away that this is no ordinary love. The love that flows beyond the pages of this great book is strong and beautiful. This book is my favorite because of what is fought for within the book. It's not about restoring kingdom, taking your rightful place, but about love. And those my friends are the best stories yet.
I love this series whole-heartily! This is one that I can picked up be swept through time and space, never getting old. If you want a great book of adventure, fighting, and a strong passionate love, read this book. This book is great for those who love a good historical fiction. Pick up this book, it will give a love to die for!
I feel like this whole series can be described with words like rich, exquisite, romantic...the history of the stories and the world that was created by Ms. Cole are all of those things and more! Her descriptions are like a delicious banquet for for the mind. The plot itself is intriguing and engaging...the characters are enjoyable and have great depth. I was even brought to tears at one point...my current feeling is that I liked the first book better than #'s 2 and 3, but that could just be my mood as I'm reading. I am well aware that whether or not I like a book is often influenced by my current mood, etc. It is also influenced by the characters and story, obviously, so I feel like I wasn't as drawn to this book as I have been by others. But this author has an amazing talent...excellent writing! I just wasn't as drawn to this one as much as the first one...But definitely worth your time, money, etc.! Anxious to find out where the next one takes us!!
Loved IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! By chapter 4 I was so excited at where we were headed that I'm pretty sure I squeed out loud. I was thrilled when Harmonia learned her true identity because of my interest in Greek mythology, but when Cole sent us to Camelot for Harmonia to continue her Quest for Zeus's sword... ya, there just aren't words to show my excitement. I feel that Harmonia was at her strongest in this book; really embracing her inner Goddess. So much happened and so much was revealed in "With My Last Breath" that I was truly amazed. Now if only January would get here....
The third installment in the Bloodstone Saga was another fun and imaginative read from Courtney Cole. I wasn't sure what to expect when Cole sent Harmonia and company to Camelot--I didn't know how she would fit that into the story, but, true to the uniqueness of the series, it worked so well.
Sometimes you just need a fun, completely fantastical story to help you escape from the real world for a little while, and this book did that for me.
After the cliffhanger ending in Fated, Courtney Cole delivers a fantastic third installment to the Bloodstone Saga. With rich descriptions, flowing narrative and sword-clashing action, this book does not disappoint! In this story, Cole gives us her spin on Camelot and introduces us to great new abilities, frightening new developments and heartwrenching new characters. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.
Whew, what a ride! Courtney wrote such an amazing book. So full of obstacles for Harmonia that I often caught myself holding my breath. I can't wait until the next book!
Cole is a talented writer. Her words are the right amount of flowery and the best kinds of truth. I am really enjoying how she is intertwining some of history's greatest love stories into one amazing series. The kicker is the that love stories we all know aren't even the love story of the main character, although she has her own true love story.
This series is so unique how Cole has unfolded the story. How she was able to take the secondary characters love story and put it in the forefront without taking away from Harmonia's story line. It is truly something special.
So in installment three we have left the Spiritlands and have found ourselves in Camelot with a compassionate and loving King Arthur. The story explores more of what it means for Harmonia to be the chosen one and a really big surprise, twist is revealed; I will never tell - read the book to find out.
I could talk about this book all day and the series, but I don't like to give away too many spoilers. I am exited to start book four - I can't believe the series is almost done.
This series just keeps getting better. Only thing that still makes me uncomfortable is just the cheesy lines that cadmus and harmonia say to each other. I know they're completely in love (if that's even enough) but it just becomes too much sometimes. STILL routing for them EVERY. SINGLE. TIME though.
HOWW did it NOT click that Raquel was their daughter. LOVE that twist. Now i cant wait to see what happens in the last one. I mean, i can assume that everything turns out to be great for them, and that's exactly what i would like to see.
I love stories that have to do with camelot and king arthur. I'm really loving ALL the places of the past that she's been including. I'm curious to see how the last instalment will turn out.
Excited to finally have one of the big guys come in (Zeus).
I just have to say this author keeps blowing me away with these books. I’m totally and completely infatuated with them. I’d even go as far as to say that they may just be my favorite series of the year, so here is my short, spoiler-free review because I soooo don’t want to give this plot away.
With My Last Breath picks up where Fated left off, with Harmonia (formally known as Macy/Charmaine…but now we know her true identity. Harmonia, daughter of Aphrodite and Ares, the Goddess of Peace and well, basically harmony!) is faced with the daunting task of bringing her beloved, Cadmus (formally known as Hasani) back to life. The Fates and their sisters, the Keres are imprisoned and are no longer a direct threat on Olympus yet their one last blow could be Harmonia’s downfall. Cadmus lies basically dead, his soul trapped in the Wastelands and essentially un-restorable unless Harmonia can find the lost sword of Zeus.
Let me just say, without devulging ANY of the actual plot because it is just that awesome, that I think this is the best book in the series thus far. Harmonia finds herself having to be thrust back into a past life she’d once lived and what a life it is! Cadmus is still there, as the soul he was long before and completely ignorant of his role in the world of Olympus, but she knows she still has to save him in the present day reality or all will be lost. The twists and turns in the plot, and in the actual history are completely unexpected and keeps you on your toes. The history that the author pulls into this segment of the series is by far one of my favorite historical mythos of all times, and it’s familiar to everyone who’s ever stuck their head outside of a box, and that is part of the reason I think this author rocks so much, she takes a story that is such an deep-rooted part of the world’s history and turns it into this epic fictional adventure and you find yourself completely and totally enthralled with every second of it.
The characters, both fictional and real are so believable in their roles. They’re developed thoroughly in such a way that you can’t even define fiction from real history, I find myself now going, “Well, so and so totally did that thing because he was under the influence of the Greek Gods,” even though…well…the Greek mythos was in no way originally related to the history. It’s mind boggling how thoroughly she weaves her worlds, her characters and her plots. The writing is flawless, the characters believable, the mythos and history blended like no-other, and well…let’s just say that I’m absolutely dying to buy the final installment!
Below is my rating of With My Last Breath by Courtney Cole. These are reflective strictly of my opinion of the novels I’ve read and reviewed, and not necessarily reflective of the other staff members of MVF.
Plot – 10 Character Development – 9 Grammar and Punctuation – 9 Prose – 9 Paranormal Element – 9
Total Score: 9.2/10
(Total score is derived from the average of the 5 individual scores)
I just have to say this author keeps blowing me away with these books. I’m totally and completely infatuated with them. I’d even go as far as to say that they may just be my favorite series of 2011, so here is my short, spoiler-free review because I soooo don’t want to give this plot away.

With My Last Breath (The Bloodstone Saga #3) picks up right where Fated (The Bloodstone #2) left off. Just when Harmonia seemed to have everything she wants; husband Cadmus, mother Aphrodite, and father Ares; the Fates once again threw her for a loop when they demanded that she find Zeus's sword. To ensure that she goes after the sword, Cadmus is struck down and his soul is sent into the Wastelands to remain there until Harmonia is successful in retrieving the sword.
Heartbroken and devastated that once again the Fates seemed to have interfered in her life by taking away her husband, Harmonia, Ares, and Aphrodite time travel to the land of Camelot and Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
This time around, Harmonia is Heleyne, Aphrodite is Queen Guinevere, and Ares is Sir Lancelot. The only surprise is that Ahmose appears as Merlin after he was thought to have been killed by the Fates for helping Harmonia discover the truth about her destiny.
If you have followed this series from the first book forward, you learned that Harmonia was a time traveling agent known as a Keeper who is given a very specific charge, or Daedal to watch over until it is time for her to die. For 2,000 years Harmonia has done the bidding of the fates, and has also died along with her charge as little more than a puppet to the fates who were her masters.
Harmonia later learned that she is actually the so called Chosen one who is supposed to bring balance to the world and the fates have been playing games with her the entire time. She is also known as the immortal goddess of harmony and contentment who can only be killed by using Zeus’s sword.
I so don’t want to spoil the entire series for those who haven’t read this series or what happens over the course of this story. I will say that I was happy that Cole time traveled Harmonia et al to the time of Arthur, Lancelot and Queen Guinevere and didn’t change what actually is “said” to happen to Arthur and his knights.
What she can do is throw readers into a spiral with a major surprise and naturally a cliffhanger ending and shocking surprise that leads into the final story of the series called My Tattered Bonds.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys time traveling, gods and goddess’s as well as a slew of other historical characters that may or may not have really existed throughout man’s history.
Let's start with the cover again. Unlike the first two books in the series, we get to see the face of the girl on the cover this time. Like the first two, the cover portrays the setting of the story, but it's a little less obvious this time around. Personally, as the series progresses, I enjoy the covers less and less. It's pretty, but kind of meh.
Getting to the story, it's set in a time period that I'm familiar with again, so following the characters is much easier. Which setting? Camelot with King Arthur and his knights. Such a majestic and magical setting.
My favourite character this time was Hecate. After being scary and mysterious in the last book, she is a solid ally and friend in this book. I love when characters grow and change, and her character definitely fits into this trend.
The other characters were decidedly less memorable this time. Harmonia/Macy is beginning to get annoying. She doesn't really seem to be growing and evolving like I'd expect. She persists in maintaining a huge weakness for Cadmus, to the point of damaging herself for his sake. It's not really the picture of a strong woman who has to save the world as she knows it. And speaking of Cadmus, he's beginning to feel a little like empty eye candy. He always seems to be incapacitated and helpless. Yet he is still arrogant and thinks very highly of himself. Could he be a bit self-deluded?
Like the second book, this one has the dreaded cliffhanger ending. Again, not a complete book on its own, but part of the bigger story.
Camelot…that is all I think I need to say! How perfect is it that Harmonia is back in the time of knights in shining armor looking for a mystical sword to save Olympus and rescue her soul mate? Magical! Once again Ms. Cole gives the reader quite a ride. There are twists and turns at every step and, even though I’ve come to expect them in this series, I find that I’m continuously surprised by the creativity. And, speaking of creativity, the description of the environment, the clothing and even the smells is exquisite as always…putting the reader right in the thick of things!
Harmonia has quite a challenge on her hands in this book, she’s battling against time to set the world right and save the life of the one she loves. As the “chosen one” she not only has her own future to think about but also the future of all of those around her. Everything she does has repercussions and causes ripples in the world as we know it…such pressure! It’s in this story that we truly see Harmonia’s bravery and tenacity. Her anger towards the fates eggs her on but it’s her genuine concern for others that makes her a leader in the fight against them. This story is a gem. Each book in this series gets better and better and this third book is one that will keep you captivated from beginning till end!
The saddest part of this book for me was the page AFTER the last one….the one that told me I’d have to wait until January 2012 for the next installment!!!!

I really love The Bloodstone Saga by Courtney Cole, so I had high expectations for With My Last Breath. While I enjoyed the novel, it was not as good as the second book in the series (Fated). Fated ended with a huge cliff hanger, and as a result, we got a lot of action right from the beginning of the novel.
Even though it was filled with the action I loved in the previous books, the romance wasn’t there. The love between Cadmus and Harmonia has always been heartbreakingly strong, but in With My Last Breath it fizzled a bit. I think this is probably because Harmonia was going through a lot of psychological grief due to the furies actions.
As with the first novel (Ever Last Kiss), we time travel to an ancient place, but this time it was Camelot instead of Ancient Egypt. I actually wasn’t thrilled with the time travel, even though I typically love it, because it felt unnecessary to me. We already time traveled in Ancient Egypt, and I just don’t see why we had to do it again (although Camelot was an interesting place).
Even though I enjoyed With My Last Breath, it did not captivate me in the same way as Fated. The romance was not as epic as it was in the previous novels, although the love between Harmonia and Cadmus is still present. I still have high hopes for the rest of the novel, and hope it will be as epic as the rest of the series.
I'm not surprised that I wasn't able to finish this one. The essence of this series was great. Had real potential to be one of my favourite series that I read over and over again. But it just got lost after the first one.
I didn't read a lot of it, maybe just the first few chapters. But I was forcing myself to do that, like I owed it to someone to read it. And maybe I would have continued, but just the beginning annoyed me so much, I couldn't be bothered to find out how the rest of the story would go.
I don't want to go into too much detail, just irritated that there was no improvement what-so-ever. There was nothing to grab my interest, not even the temptation of reading about King Arthur and Camelot (as from others I've heard).
So yeah, not continuing the series and very disappointed that I could have spent all that time reading something better.
awesome but heartbreaking. i couldn't put it down even though i cried quite a bit reading this one. in the third book Harmonia and Cadmus and her family defeat the evil she was prophesied to overcome but in doing so it changed something she didn't expect would be affected. so her victory over her enemy is short lived and not only does she have to find zeus and all the other gods but now she has to add finding her daughter to that list as well which will not be easy. another good read and I'm bout to find out what happens in the last book.
There are some pretty serious historical discrepancies in this series, starting with the first book taking place in Cleopatra's Egypt and extending into the third book in Camelot. For example, where did they get curry, or sweet potatoes for that matter, to serve at the banquet in Camelot? A little more research into the era your writing about, makes the story a lot easier to buy into. The plot lines are good and the characters are pretty decently fleshed out. Looking forward to seeing this writer mature.
This one takes place in Camelot. I wish there were more details around the setting there way there was in the first book with Ancient Egypt. So much happening in the story though, that the setting suffers for it a bit. At times, through the three books, I've gotten a bit tired of the "soul-mate" focus. It makes sense, but I think it is driven a little too hard at times. Still enjoying it though.
I didn't comment on this series earlier because I was hoping it would get better. The first book, in my opinion, was the best in the series - so far. I connected to the two female leads...but not the male love interest. Most of the relationships felt superficial...except between the two ladies (not a romantic one).
