*An ancient war between the Fates. A girl whose magic may end it all. And a school run by witch hunters, hell-bent on suppressing magical youths from using their powers.*

Once again back in the Agnus’ clutches, Charlie fears that her days with magic are numbered. That is until she stumbles upon a secret group of rebels with an extra seat at their table reserved for the child of Life — a girl foretold to set their magic free.

Drawn to the handsome rebel leader, Charlie decides to act the part and bands together with the rebels to overthrow the Agnus. Yet, to do so, she must first find a way to connect with her own magic, which might just mean embracing who she truly is.

With freedom, belonging and identity at stake, Charlie distractedly navigates the Agnus’ oppressive regime, first love and her new found family’s expectations; realising too late that there are darker forces at play and a price someone will have to pay – with Death as the cashier.

*This is a dark fantasy novel that explores uncomfortable yet important themes. Reader discretion is advised.*

C. L. Qvam has been lost and found on several occasions, and this time she’s been found by you!

Drawn to everything British and lore infused stories that explore the morally grey, Chase moved across the pond at a young age to write the story in her heart. Since then, the mixed-race Norwegian author has identified as an English rose and defies the barriers of her first language and dyslexia to write in her preferred language on the daily.

While pieces of her debut trilogy was drafted and written all over the world, Chase is now working on new Fantasy Romance series back home in Norway, living with a very patient boyfriend and furbaby.

When she’s not writing, she spends her time illustrating the stories in her head, recovering from a rough start at life, and checking her dms for unhinged reader reactions.

Spindle of Life felt like a totally new take on the YA fantasy genre! It is unique, full of layers that make up an incredible world building, as well as a dark underlying atmosphere that makes it more suitable to upper YA.

We follow Charlie, a young orphan girl who was for a long time forced to hide her magic. Hallows Grove is a dark place that forced all defectives, humans that possess magical abilities, to purge their magic. Even after escaping such a dreadful place, Charlie still has flashbacks and suffers from it. Now, she’s known as a Magling. One of my favorite elements of the story was discovering the extent of their magical abilities, the shapeshifting and the mythological lore!

After so many years hiding her magic Charlie must now learn to control it and bring it forth. Which is easier said than done. Charlie knew herself only as a defective and suddenly seeing herself as a Magling was disorienting. The story is filled with suspense, regarding Charlie’s past and how she ended up at the orphanage. Prepare for lots of rebellions, conspiracy, dark and secretive organizations and plot intrigue! You guys know I’m a romance fanatic so I am hoping for more romance in the sequel 👀

Oh my goodness, this book was such a delight. Perfect for fans of academia settings…specifically MAGICAL academia settings, Spindle of Life is an upper YA centering around our FMC, Charlie. I absolutely loved her character arc and really enjoyed growing alongside her. I also found her struggle with anxiety incredibly relatable, which was refreshing (or maybe validating?) to see in a novel. I also really loved the incorporation of Greek mythology! I feel like this book would be PERFECT for readers who loved Percy Jackson. So if you enjoyed Percy Jackson but prefer upper YA, this is def the book for you!

Thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

THE SPINDLE OF LIFE is an incredible introduction to an all-new fantasy adventure! Suited for readers on the older side of the YA genre, this read offers dark academia vibes in a school meant to repress magic, a brewing rebellion, lore rooted in real-world mythology, elemental magic and even a bit of romance. If any of these things sound like elements you’d enjoy, I definitely recommend giving this book a shot.

The Spindle of Life is a darker book, and this is justified by the premise of the story. The protagonist, Charlie, spends the better part of her life first in an orphanage where her caretakers try to terrorize the magic out of her, and then in an academy that isn’t very different. The prolonged trauma she’s endured marks this character deeply. Charlie isn’t a ray of sunshine or a sassy protagonist. She’s often quiet and scared, and so starved for genuine human connection that perhaps she’s a little too naïve, easily manipulated, or jealous of others. All of these things made her a different protagonist than those I’m used to. Her reactions often align with my own personality, and while this made it harder for me to connect with her on a deep level, I can see her being a perfect mirror for so many other readers. It was interesting to be in her head and understand her way of thinking and feeling, and I enjoyed watching her development from start to finish. She’s deeply flawed, but the mantel of the chosen one and the experiences she goes through are hardening her and building her confidence.

This book has an amazing balance of character development, plot and mythology. I was blown away by the world building, which dips into multiple mythologies—especially Greek Mythology and Christian lore—and carves something entirely new and fascinating as a result. The characters were all interesting and aloof. I spent the longest time trying to puzzle out who could be trusted, especially when it came to those closest to Charlie: Madison, who is a sort of best friend/sister figure, and the two young men whom I believe will be keeping the romantic spark of this series alive, brothers Caden and Tyler. Both handsome, one a broody, tortured soul and the other an outgoing, flirty, headstrong leader. I enjoyed them both for very different reasons, but one of them needs to grovel copiously, which means there’s a great risk of my attention…shifting. *whistles innocently*

Overall, an impressive debut that has nothing to envy more popular titles in the YA genre. Definitely recommend!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

What a beautiful book inside and out!

The Spindle of Life is an Upper YA Fantasy with a dark academia vibe—and when I say dark, I mean it! There’s a mix of mythology and religion at the base of the worldbuilding, where people with magical abilities are taken by a religious organization known as the Agnus Dei who want to “free” these children from “sin” in the most deplorable ways. I’m talking torture and humiliation happening within the walls of orphanages, all disguised as a holy mission, and this continues until the gifted kids “withdraw”, as in they renounce magic—which leads to a whole other series of problems for them. It was all very heartbreaking, shocking, and understandably not an easy for everyone, which is something the author points out as well in a very delicate and respectful way at the start of the book.

Charlie is the protagonist, a girl who’s lived under the oppressive thumb of the Agnus most of her life, and thus having a weak hold on her magic. You can’t help but want to protect Charlie. She’s been through so much, and yet she remains the better person even to those who don’t really deserve it, friends and foes alike. She’s been through a lot, and her reactions and thought processes, while very understandable, don’t always make her head a happy place to be. If there’s a character who deserves to see a light at the end of the tunnel, to reach a happy ending, it’s this girl.

The cast of secondary characters was wonderful and full of different types of magical beings. I loved the found family that forms among the rebel students at Soli Gloria, despite the fact there are some individuals you don’t really know if you can trust. This made the characters layered, realistic, and very interesting to read, and the twists determined by these characters’ choices made me scream at my book. Multiple times.

The Spindle of Life is perfect for fans of the Chosen One and Found Family tropes. Expect unexpected twists, rebellions, betrayals, romance, prophecies and lots of magic!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own.

Spindle of Life is perfect for lovers of dark academia, found family, and elemental magic. This YA book was a bit on the older YA side, was luring.

Definitely filled with all the magic we love to see in books, there’s a touch of mythology which I loved. And can we talk about the brooding love interest. This gave me Atlas Six vibes with Narnia vibes, perfect for fans of either.

I loved the character development of Charlie, although she has so much history when it comes to trauma. She was definitely reluctant in the beginning to accept that she was the one but in the end she started accepting her destiny. I loved the bits of romance we got, looking forward to see more in the next books.

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.

this fantasy book was truely a piece of art. i feel in love with the writing instantly. C.L. has such a beautiful way of writing and it is so immersive it is hard to put the book down. you want to know every detail and everything that will happen next and the twists and turns are so good. i loved how you learn through the main character's eyes. it seems like a given but some stories you know some stuff in advance. here you can assume stuff but you live with charlie the new knowledge at the same time as her which makes for an even cooler experience and, for me, made me connect with her even more. it is a fantasy with so much more meaningful content to cherish and love but also learn from. there are harder scenes to read and some trigger warnings to keep in mind but it is so worth the read. the characters are well developed and the world is so good and gorgeous! i want to visit the places she decided to put in the book now ahah. 100% recommend for all the maglins who are wanted to connect with their magic

Qvam immerses us in a world that’s both refreshingly new and delightfully, nostalgically familiar in Spindle of Life. Fans of magic schools, academia, and Greek mythology will rejoice over the elemental magic and lush world building.

One of my favorite aspects is the brilliant character development of our MC, Charlie. With her background full of trauma and challenges, watching Charlie face her fears and doubts and transform is nothing short of inspiring.

Not only that, but Qvam also paints a full cast of varied characters, ranging from lovable to downright despicable. There are villains you love to hate and friends you’re not sure you can trust. This book will leave you constantly guessing and enjoying all the complex characters’ many layers.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wanted an upper YA Percy Jackson series with fresh twists on the mythology, fans of heroines with fierce growth arcs, or anyone who loves a great story full of twists and turns, magic, a rich hidden world, and a touch of romance.

I instantly fell in love with the originality of this story! And because of that originality,in my opinion, it stood out against a lot of what's out there. Everything from the characters that came off very relatable (again, my opinion), to the cruel world they live in and inclusion of different cultures and folklore (I think that was my favorite part). It was gritty and scary and just, ugh! So good!!! Even the villain is scary as hell! Love, love, love this story!

I have never written a review on here before. It's really not my style. I'm more of the silent type as you can quickly check on my page.
HOWEVER.
I WAS SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS BOOK, I COULD NOT SHUT THE FUCK UP.
IF YOU HAVE PATIENCE BARE WITH ME FOR A SOLID MINUTE, I CAN PROMISE YOU IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

Where should I even begin?
The only thing salvagable in this story is the interesting plot. I cannot deny it. It cages you (literally, cause the rest was so bad but since my curiosity with it was peak, it was like I was a prisoner within my own head).

Pacing? Weird. Veeeeery slow, then boom all of a sudden all of this things are happening (things u know nothing about cause the author's only going to info dump it once It's over and you're left thinking "Uhm...ok?"

Characters?
Well there was certainly a good try at given them layers, but perhaps the author went a bit too far. I mean if the only layers the FMC friends have is being shitty then...why?
This poor FMC has literally NO ONE on her corner, Maddison the only friend she made once she escaped the orphanage? A lying, traitorous bitch who loves to play the victim and discard other people's feelings towards her own fucked up behavior and ends up sleeping with the guy the MC likes (even after she explicitly told her she liked him and the friend said "oh yeah go for it"). Jaden and Vanilla? They are not bad people, but they are really BAD FRIENDS. I mean the both of them knew what Tyler (the love interest) was a fuckboy good for nothing piece of shit and they didn't tell her, instead they pushed them together and told her to go for it aswell.
The only family she has left (grandparents) are also good for nothing, he abandoned her in the orphanage she was later on abused in, and the grandma lied to her (with reasonable reasons, but still, lies are lies).

BUT NOW...LET'S GET TO THE GOOD PART SHALL WE????

ROMANCE? Let me tell you right now, THERE WAS NONE.

Tyler, who's the LI here, was asked to pretend to be enamored by our FMC to make her magic light up, which works, he conquers her heart. UNTIL a girl, who btw bullies the MC along with her friends because she has the same interest in this Tyler guy, warns her that he SLEPT WITH HER THE NIGHT BEFORE, oh you thought that was bad? Wait, there's more.
SHE THEN TAKES OUR MC TO HIS BEDROOM WHERE HE'S FUCKING HER ANOTHER GIRL, WHO IS NONE OTHER THAN HER "SISTER"/"BESTIE" WHO THEN ACTS SO CALMLY WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT.
oh, yout though it was done? Wait....
SHE THEN CLIMBS OFF HIM, AND SAYS AS SHE'S LEAVING HIS ROOM "MEET ME OUTSIDE WHEN YOU'RE DONE".
I-
I-
I-
HE ACTUALLY DOES THAT!!! HE TELLS THE MC SOME EXCUSE ABOUT NOT BEING BF MATERIAL AND BLAHBLAH THEN HE FOLLOWS THE OTHER GIRL!!!! AND THE MC JUST STANDS THERE AND DOES NOTHING!!!
WORST, INSTEAD OF BLAMING HIM ASWELL, SHE CLAIMS HE'S "CONFUSED OR WAS SEDUCED BY HER FRIEND" AND BELIEVES SHE JUST NEEDS TO CAPTURE HIS ATTENTION AGAIN, LIKE WHAAAAAT?????!!!!
GIRL, IF YOU HAVE POWER. KILL THEM.

>>THAT'S NOT EVEN THE WORST PART<<
(yeah, trust me, I was thinking the same thing "it gets worse than this??" Yup.)

SHE FORGIVES EVERYONE. THEN GETS BACK TOGETHER WITH HIM IN THE END.

I really cannot describe to you the amount of rage I feel for everyone in this story. I don't think there's anyone I don't hate and wouldn't like to see be burned alive.

Fuck Tyler.
Fuck Charlie.
Fuck Maddison.
Fuck Jaden and Vanilla.
Caden is the better one amongst them, but fuck him too.
Fuck Venus, her friends and everyone else at that wretched school.
Fuck the Agnes the Ordea, and the Fates.
Fuck the author (respectfully) for making me feel this much rage (honestly I didn't know I had it in me to WANT people to die so badly and in the worst possible ways).
Fuck me for getting to this sad point.
And to be fair, fuck you too if you read this story and liked it and found nothing wrong with it.

P.S- Idk if I have it in me to read the 2nd book. I am curious about the plot, but I cannot take anymore of the "happy go merry" fake group of friends, and I'm even less inclined to deal Tyler and Charlie being a couple. If the FMC had been stronger, or more likable, or if any other character had been interesting or worth it, I'd probably push through just to satiate my curiosity, alas I'll snuff that little candle out and end this story here.

The plot of Spindle of Life has been living rent-free in my mind since I finished the book months ago. If you're a fan of dark fantasy, Greek mythology, magical schools, rebellion, hidden magic, and a bit of romance, this book is for you. All the mysteries and mythological aspects were my favorite part of the story. Not to mention the mythology is so well incorporated into the story which is not a common sight. The plot kept me nonstop intrigued while reading and sometimes I really couldn't tell where it led. There were a few twists I didn't expect, some I did see coming but it was still painful to see them unwrap (the story is not a pain-free experience, just you know). The world-building is so good! It gives the vibes of the good oldies YA fantasy/dystopian books but with unique elements, great character developments, and heavier topics.

Combining these features with the main character, Charlie, a tremendously complex MC, Spindle of Life became one of my favorite reads of the year. Charlie was such a fresh air among all the typical YA, NA, and Adult fantasy female characters. I appreciate the fact that she's not perfectly skilled with her magic but has to learn and face challenges in accepting herself as she is. Seeing how the society and the environment including the people where she grew up influenced her thinking was so well executed. This is one of my favorite themes in stories because it makes me see why characters act as they do. The same can be said about the secondary characters.

Spindle of Life is a great first book in the series. It introduces you to everything you need to know for the journey to begin but keeps hidden everything you need to figure out yourself or wait till the characters uncover all the mysteries and prophecies. And look, I'm here for all the secrets! Give me more, but mainly give me Scissors of Death, please!

This debut novel from C.L. Qvam gets a 4 out of 5 star rating from me. This is a very dark academia, heavy book so there is specific content/trigger warnings on the author’s website as well as a short disclaimer at the beginning of the book.

What I liked about the book:
- FMC (female main character) is very relatable to me. So many fantasy books now have very stabby/snarky heroines (which is great and I love them) but Charlie is quite the opposite. She’s almost suffocating in fear and anxiety to the point where she’s just surviving…thankfully she has Maddison as the snarky friend who’s confident, self-assured, and doesn’t take any crap from anyone.
- New magic system. I love learning about new magic systems and how the characters and the world/realm interact with each other.
- Romantic plot that doesn’t completely overshadow the main storyline. What’s an upper young adult book without a bit of romance? I love that though a romantic relationship is somewhat of a focus in most of the book, that’s not the main focus. We don’t lose sight of the main storyline in order to focus on the romance.
- Real problems/social issues/mental health are addressed in this book. This book is heavy and took me a while to get through because of the many parallels I could see between reality and the events in the book.
- I loved the incorporation of Greek mythology, magic, alternate realms, and other fantasy elements.

What I didn’t like:
- I feel like the beginning quarter of the book dragged on too much with the over description of the setting. Too much description and my brain zoned out while reading (also I tend to imagine characters and settings regardless of description so 😅🤷🏻‍♀️)
- Though I love the incorporation of many fantastical elements, I feel like maybe it was too much at times. I do believe that we’ll explore more of these elements in the sequels though so I know a little of what to expect.
- Huge cast of characters. There are a lot of names to keep up with and sometimes I’m good at keeping track of who’s who, but I struggled with this book.

You may enjoy this book if you like:
✨ Chosen one trope
✨ Reluctant hero trope
✨ Rebellion against the oppressors
✨ Alternate realms
✨ Greek mythology (specifically the Fate Sisters)

Though this book started off a bit slow, as the first book of a trilogy and a debut novel I believe it did the job of introducing us to the world it is set in as well as setting the stage for the rest of the series.
This is definitely a book that will need to be reread to fully appreciate the foreshadowing and Easter egg hints the author placed throughout the book.

I feel like if you enjoy books like The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson, that you will like these. Just a reminder that it is a bit heavy so if you’ve read or seen Harry Potter, think of the last 3 books and how dark they were.

*Disclaimer* I was gifted an eARC copy of this book ahead of it’s official release. These are my honest opinions/views.

When I am absolutely hooked from the first few pages in a book, I know it’s going to be a winner and that is exactly what @chaselouiseqvam has here! Chapter 1 we are introduced to Charlie, a young girl on the run from an organization that hunts and ‘converts’ magic weilders and we are almost immediately thrown into a dark world of suppressed magic, monsters, corrupt institutions and small kernels of hope.

There is a very dark Harry Potter x Percy Jackson vibe (think the final movies) and as a history buff I really enjoyed how Qvam incorporated medieval..tools we shall call them, and mythology. It did take me a bit to get into Charlie’s headspace as she is a younger FMC, but I feel like that helped me really appreciate her struggles and growth throughout the book in both magic, relationships and confidence. And after that freaking ending, I absolutely cannot wait to dive into book 2!

Spindle of Life is Book 1 in a completed series, and it’s available on KU!

This world is so unique. I love that it's based in our world but also has portals to other realms. I'm excited to know more about the other realms mentioned. The magic systems was really interesting and the school (gave me all the cult-y feelings).

I enjoyed finding more about Charlie. Her childhood and upbringing did not seem easy. I feel for her so much. Excited to see her continued growth.

I'm interested to know more about the brothers and what happened to all the friends.

I'm really sorry that this book didn't do it for me. I had to abandon it in the middle (and it's so rare to do that) because I constantly got lost in the story and I felt like everything was dragging. The FML is a bit of a dormat and I cannot enjoy it because she lets everyone push her around. The other characters all seem to have a shitty personality and after reading a few reviews when I got stuck, I decided to drop it.

I read it in one sitting. This book is too good to make it wait because of reasons so fickle as "I need to sleep".

Amazing introduction to a very believable magic world, one that could be right under our noses without us magless noticing. The plot is engaging and well crafted, and my background in classical languages and mythology makes me appreciate how spot on everything is. From names to verses to concepts and ideas, everything ties together into an amazing book.

I'm especially fond of how the author tackles mental health issues from inside Charlie's mind. I'm not sure how it will feel to someone who has never lived it, but for somebody "in the trenches", so to say, it's very familiar and validating. Even healing at times.

So if you are doubting whether to read this, please do. It's beautifully written and masterfully crafted.

Saw this on Kindle Unlimited and the synopsis interested me for a Fantasy Romance with a Dark Academia setting.

I DNF’d at 9%. There is nothing to suck you in at the beginning. The pacing is painfully slow, there’s no cool action or intriguing mystery. Capitalised terms like ‘Withdrawn’ and ‘Defective’ are being thrown at you, followed by an info dump which will immediately leave your mind. It’s not well written enough to invest you immediately and carry you through to the main event.

MC has nothing going on except some alluded to ✨trauma✨ I think this would have benefited a lot being written in first person so we’d have that greater insight into her thoughts, but that’s not here.

Serious shame, but just no food to eat into here.

I thought this book, full of magical realism, had an interesting twist on Greek mythology. The descriptions in the book of the setting, characters, etc were well-worded and beautiful. This story made me think of Harry Potter at times, but with darker academia mixed with the Shadowhunter Chronicles (at least, the downworlder part) and Greek myths.

However, while I enjoyed the concepts of the story (did I mention it's a metal health rep book?), I was confused when reading the firat couple of chapters of the story, which made it hard to get through them. There were several other times throughout the story where I was confused about the plot. (Although I would like to note that SOME of that confusion was because I was reading too fast haha.) I also thought there would be more ties to Greek mythology throughout the entire story, not just after halfway through the boom. There were mentions of Greek mythology in the beginning of the book, but few, especially compared to the (shocking) ending.

If you enjoy dark academia in the YA genre along with Harry Potter, The Shadowhunter Chronicles, and a bit of Greek mythology, the Spindle of Life by C.L. Qvam might be for you!

Spindle of Life is a fast-paced, action-packed, Upper YA Fantasy book that is perfect for lovers of Dark Academia, Magic, Harry Potter, and the Chosen One trope. Qvam does a beautiful job of intermingling folklore and mythologies with current social issues, such as the oppression of human rights and religion. The main character is so relatable to me, as her struggles with self-worth and anxiety are close to my heart. It is hard to live up to other’s expectations when you don’t find value inside of yourself.

We all love the cheeky best friend, but what happens when that best friend turns out not to be the person that you thought they were? What happens when the same sort of betrayal happens with your first real romantic relationship? I think the betrayals would cut me SO deeply and I’m not sure my relationships could recover from those sorts of blows. #capricorn #trustissues We’ll have to see how Charlie navigates these fractured bonds in the next book, Scissors of Death.

This story is a dark read and deals with some heavy emotional burdens. I recommend checking the author’s Trigger Warnings before diving in.

Say what you will, but I for one love the chosen one trope. Gah, I'd read it a thousand times if I could. I'd also read this book a thousand times if I could, because yes, it's that good. Upper-YA is kind of my go to, or maybe anything in YA, but I guess I'm on the "upper" side of that (yeah, I'm an adult. Ok, I admitted it). Anyway, I also love me some dark academia vibes and a solid romance subplot that doesn't define the entire story. I don't think romance needs to be intrinsic in fantasy, and while I love the inclusion at times, there's others where a less heavy romance (or just no romance at all) is more up my alley. There's still romance here, but it's not thrown at you for the sake of fitting in with the rest of the genre. There's also magic, my favorite part, and an MC who stands out from other fantasy heroines. I just really loved this book. It's everything I loved, has a stunning design, and deals with dark yet exciting matters like rebellions and coming to terms with fear and measuring up to what may seem like insurmountable tasks.

There is no denying it: I loved this book. C. L. Qvam captured me, from the very first words to the end, into a universe where I could see myself in the main character, and reflect upon all the troubles and joys of finding oneself. As the book takes you on a journey, the unknowing reader will be captivated by the twists and inner dialogue, as choices must be made and everything is at stake.

The author dedicates this book to anyone who have had their magic suppressed, and to everyone who keeps pushing through, taking the world by storm. And I believe the author herself, with this book, already has. If you are a fantasy-lover, with an interest for mythology, magic, romance and fate: You simply HAVE to read this noteworthy book. I can´t wait to read the next one!

Spindle of Life is a captivating take on "the children of the gods". It's got a touch of Percy Jackson, but definitely more upper YA!

C. L. Qvam has a unique take on the way she story tells. The reader only knows as much as the MC, Charlie. Charlie is has no idea who/ what she is and the reader figures it out along with her. The reader also is trying to figure out what is going on as much as Charlie is.

The plot definitely has some twists and turns that will keep any reader engaged!

I absolutely love a good greek mythology retelling and this does not disappoint!

I also thought Charlie was relatable because she struggles with anxiety and I thought the author did a really good job representing that struggle that sooo many of us have!!

DNF at 65%

This book is just *so* bad. The writing is terrible. The main character is allegedly 18 but has the maturity and life experience of a 12 year old. She’s so annoying. I had to stop when she begged a man (a BOY) to be with her after he explicitly stated he wasn’t interested and she found him half-dressed in a room with her best friend. I just can’t. Nothing in this book makes sense. There are no reasons for any actions. Things just happen, and they happen quickly. People just do things randomly. I guess the best part is that the book is relatively short and therefore less painful.

There is a character named Vanilla. Hard no.

There is kissing and nothing beyond that. Literally not even desiring. Very YA.

I am in love with this story. At first it seems like "okay, what is going on?" (because of the world building) but eventually it makes all sense. Chase created a world where readers can truly empathise with the characters itself, The secrets and twists at every point of the chapter was making me go crazy to read further and further.

I truly love Charlie because she was so brave in the moments where a person might go insane and absolutely love Caden because he is adorable..
with that said please go and read this book now if you enjoy reading upper YA fantasy, elemental magic, found family, Nordic and Greek mythology inspired and mental health representation.

Please read the trigger warnings.

What a great debut release! This first book had me captured from the first few pages! So many twists and turns as the story progresses. Definitely one that captures you, that you can relate to in many ways and has you emotionally involved at times!
Being new to this genre of fiction I would 100% recommend this book to anyone else wanting to explore this genre too! Can't wait to read the next book in the Trilogy!

Thanks for producing a great piece of fiction C.L.Qvam

Interesting premise, weird pacing and frustrating fmc

I really liked the idea and story in this book and found the world interesting but the pacing felt super drawn out in some places and rushed in others. I also found myself frustrated with the things that Charlie took FOREVER to put together even though I’d figured it out chapters before. Overall a fun read but I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series.

A book that dragged me out of hibernation. I’ve had trouble some while starting new books, but Spindle of Life cured that. An original story written with passion and care by the writer. It’s impossible NOT to relate with the characters. I can’t wait till the next book comes out so I can read more of Charlies story. Here’s to November coming sooner rather than later.

interesting take on mythology

I enjoyed diving into this familiar yet completely unfamiliar world where anyone can have magic but is persecuted if they do. Drawing from elements of witch hunters and the idea of the fates, this is an interesting take on magic and the world. There are many religious parallels drawn. If you enjoy magic set in the “real world” and prophecies/fates, you’ll probably enjoy this book! Definitely check trigger warnings as there is some dark content including torture/abuse.

Spellbinding

I tried to read this book slowly, and failed 😅

This world is immersive and deep. The story from Charlie's perspective - watching the pieces fall into place- is entrancing. This book has amazing world building, believable and flawed characters, and more twists than a gorgons knot. Do not pass up the opportunity to start this series

Excellent upper YA series. This book in particular is a whirlwind, but even though some parts were cringey, I couldn't put it down. It definitely embodied the experience of being a teenager and some of the awkwardness that comes with it! CL Qvam is officially one of my favorite authors of all time.
