They're enemies with a common goal: justice.
As the threat escalates, Ash and Rose must face their turbulent history if they want to survive. But can they learn to trust the enemy before it’s too late?
Searching for Justice is the third book in the Redwood Coast Rescue romantic suspense series by Tonya Burrows. If you crave an electrifying enemies-to-lovers romance with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this gripping adventure is a must-read.
Tonya Burrows wrote her first romance at age thirteen and hasn't put down her pen since. Originally from a small town in Western New York, she suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and is still searching for a place to call home. She shares her adventures with her husband, two adorable doodles, and Scribble the Writer Cat.
When she's not writing about hunky military heroes and their courageous K9s, Tonya can be found watching either true crime or baking shows while snuggled up on the couch with her furbabies. She also enjoys traveling—especially long road trips to see the National Parks.

the setup… Mad Dog pub owner Rose Galasso has despised Sheriff Ash Rawlings since she was thirteen-years old when he helped arrest her father Pete for the murder of her mother who disappeared. He was a deputy at the time but she felt he didn’t do enough to stand up for Pete when he knew something was off. Now the Jane Doe whose body was recently discovered during the wildfires has been identified and someone is trying to kill Rose. Ash has made it his personal mission to keep her safe, putting them both at risk.
the heart of the story… The threat to Rose was serious and real, one she should have taken more seriously but let her animosity towards Ash get in the way of common sense. It took a really bad attack for her to get out of her own way and, meanwhile, that thin line between love and hate blurred. Their chemistry was explosive and their relationship even more steamy. The identity of the person behind the assaults and the reason was just as murky but my instincts about it were on the right path.
the bottom line… I love how animal therapy continues to play a significant role in these stories. Rose experienced PTSD as a result of what happened to her and she not only gained strength from the therapy group but bonded with Dante, the K9 dog who chose to keep her safe. The romance between Ash and Rose pitted two strong-willed personalities who were trying to figure out their own baggage let alone the growing feelings for each other. Even though I saw the twist coming, I didn’t foresee all of it. And, that epilogue! 3.5 stars
This book packed a punch and kept me thoroughly entertained. I loved Ash and Rose together. To hear more about Ash’s backstory was great and really helped to understand him. I loved the crew being there to support Rose. The heat between Ash and Rose was off the charts! Dante was amazing what a hero! This book had so many twists and turns and I didn’t guess any of them! I was shocked towards the end. Absolutely fantastic read and my favourite in the series so far and I loved books 1 and 2! The ending has me desperate for book 4! A brilliant 5 star read and one I would highly recommend.
Searching for Justice is a steamy, age-gap, enemies-to-lovers, OMG we're in big trouble tropefest, and I was 110% here for it!
I loved Ash and Rose's story. From the fact that they both have rather unfortunate names (Ashley Sutton Rawlings III and Ambrosia Wildflower Galasso) to their off-the-charts chemistry to the danger threatening them that truly had me at the edge of my seat (I absolutely *did not* suspect who the bad guys were!), I did not want to put this one down!
Also, there are dogs. And all of them--but especially Dante--are Very Good Doggos from start to finish.
And OMG, that moment when Ash realizes that Dante is his doggie twin...priceless!
I have to warn you, though--we get an HEA for out hero and heroine here, but the epilogue throws us right into the next book, where a secondary character from this one is in some really significant danger--and then it ENDS. I need that next book YESTERDAY, Tonya Burrows! ;)
I mean, I can wait. Take your time and do your characters the justice they deserve, of course. But try to write faster, please? :D
Though I managed just fine starting this series with the 3rd book, I really liked all of the Redwood Coast Rescue people I met here, and will totally be going back and reading the first two books as soon as I get a chance. Maybe that will keep me from getting too distracted and worried about Alexis's fate (GAH! that epilogue!!!)...how soon can you write Searching for Redemption, Ms Burrows?
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Do really enjoy Tonya Burrows stories, characters are always interesting, quite multi dimensional and believable.
This is Ash and Rose story, with a lot of history and some angst between them based on something that happened early on in Ash career as a deputy. It was really great to delve into Ash as a character as he had come across as very straight by the book lawman, so it was good to understand what drives the sheriff that seems to take on all the weight of the world (or at least his town) on his shoulders. As always the story itself has enough twists that you think you know where the story is going, but then bam - different direction! And i can honestly say, i did not see this one coming at all.
It is also good to see more of the RWCR team, and not only their rescue set up, but that life after the HEA is not always that simple, as we see Zak and Anna manage through some troubles as well.
The reason for the 4 stars is i felt the relationship seemed to just slip from a hate you, wary of you kind of story and like a flip of switch was then all about love - didnt really see the transition into it.
but overall, really enjoyable, surprising twisted ending AND the epilogue - now i am on tenterhooks until the Searching for Redemption
I received an ARC for my honest and true opinion of this book.
This is one of my favorite books I've read this year! To be honest, I wasn't all that excited to start this book (I love the Redwood Coast Rescue series because of the dogs and the support group!) because I didn't think Sheriff Ash Rawlings had been that interesting or heroic in previous books. But oh, my goodness!! This guy is sexy and dark and has so many layers, I happily revise my opinion and say he is one of my favorite heroes of the year. The book, too, was full of mysteries old and new. Lots of twists and turns. Lots of suspects and, I confess, I didn't see the twist coming at the end. (well, I had one or two bad guys pegged, but the ultimate villain surprised me--and I love that!) And I love it any time a team comes together like Ash and his friends did. I have to give a shout-out to the heroine Rose/Ambrosia. It takes a strong, smart, big-hearted woman to forgive/handle/love a man like Ash. The sex scenes were hot and powerful, and the emotions were off the charts. I haven't given this glowing of a review in a long time. It was a pleasure to read. Looking forward to Shane & Alexis's story next.
Searching For Justice was phenomenal. I love this series, and I couldn’t put it down. Tonya Burrows writes awesome characters, and her stories are captivating. Searching For Justice is full of twists and turns that will have you turning pages from the beginning of the book! It is the perfect blend of suspense, surprises, emotions, steamy times, and a happily ever after. Ash is the grumpy sheriff. He is working himself to death reviewing the old corrupt sheriff’s cases. Rose is the local pub owner. They have hated each other for years because of Ash’s first case that put Rose’s father in jail. A podcaster comes back to town with information on a possible serial killer. While Ash is investigating he discovered that arose had been abducted. Sparks fly and feeling develop while Ash is protecting Rose. All of the characters from the previous books are involved in the story. Start at the beginning if you haven’t read this series. I highly recommend it!
From the first page this read will have you flipping the pages, the twists and turns, suspense, danger, and of course the amazing characters. Ash is the Sheriff in the small town and is cleaning up messes all around him after the last Sheriff who was corrupt as can be. His pile is huge with unsolved cases and cases that need a second look, his plate is full and over flowing trying to be the best he can be to bring order once more to his town. Rose is the owner of the bar in town, she has her past dealings with Ash when he was a deputy, which led to an animosity towards him that has never died. When she gets attacked, Ash is her saviour and becomes personally invested in her safety. The line between hate and love is very thin between these two and before they can move forward, they both have to face their pasts and forgive themselves and each other before their future is ripped away. Holy smokes!!!! Could not nor did I want to put this down until the last page and the author keeps us on our toes, throwing in curve balls and surprises trying to figure out why anyone would attack Rose, who is behind it and why. The sparks between them were fireworks and the steam…ahem the steam….as well as the amazing characters all around, a peek at past couples we all love and descriptions that are spot on. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Pain and need, longing and regret, hate and guilt.
Ash and Rose have always verbally sparred and verged on hating each other, but when her life is threatened Ash cannot leave her safety to anyone else...he has to protect her, he has to find who is threatening her, he has to keep her safe......he doesn't realise he actually loves her! Although he is very straight laced and by the book I really love Ash, he works far too hard, takes far too much responsibility on his shoulders and is killing himself with guilt, but he cares deeply for everyone in his town and feels it is his responsibility.to keep everyone safe You have to give him credit that even though he may fail at times, he tries and he takes each failure personally. He thinks keeping control is the only way to keep everyone safe, but once Rose gets past his his walls and blows his control, we see a very different, very growly, very demanding and very sexy Ash! Mistakes have been made, the previous Sheriff's corruption once again rears its head and betrayal strikes from more than one side, not everyone survives and Ash once again takes that hit personally....can Rose convince him his guilt is misplaced? I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Wow! What an awesome read! I was immediately drawn into the story and couldn’t put it down! Searching for Justice is the 3th installment in the Redwood Coast Rescue series by Tonya Burrows. Although you can read it as a standalone I would recommend to read the series from the beginning because of the reappearing characters. I loved it! Suspenseful plot and action packed! The romance was brilliant! Enemy to lovers!! The sexual tension between Ash and Rose almost blew me away 🔥 A lot of chemistry there!! The plot is very well written and has a lot of twists and turns. I couldn’t figure it out till the end. It’s an intriguing story with a slightly dark touch because of the characters emotional baggage and how they had to find a way to live with that. Highly recommended! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion!
Rose Galasso hates Sheriff Ash Rawlings for destroying her family 13 years ago when a then Deputy Rawlings fresh out of the academy arrested her father for the murder of her mother. Now Rose and the Sheriff have a love/hate relationship. But when Ash comes across a very bloody and beaten Rose something shifts between them. With the help of The Redwood Coast Rescue and Dante the Sheriff's new K9 partner, Ash is determined to find out who hurt Rose and why she seems to have a target on her back. One of Ms. Burrows best books (In my opinion) with a plot twist I didn't see coming this not only has a community that's comes together for one of their own but loyal friends and their adorable canine companions and one canine determined to keep his human safe no matter what. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
Bar owner Ambrosia was abducted and held captive in an old gas station for more than 24 hours when Sheriff Asher found her. She was drugged and bound. Days later a second assault happens at it becomes painstakingly clear, Rose is not a random victim. Asher, who once imprisoned her father for murdering her mother, now has to change from enemy to ally and has to keep Rose safe and alive.
This story was very twisted and fit right into the other stories in this series. But I didn't catch the emotional drift and was much less captured by the couple dynamic. I might put a second read on my agenda I case I was just otherwise occupied. But I already have a strong urge to read the next book.
I am thoroughly enjoying these Redwood Coast Rescue stores!! Our focus is on Rose Galasso. Her mom “disappeared” and her dad was found guilty of her murder, so she was raised by her aunt Rainbow. Rose currently runs the Mad Dog Pub staying in her father’s footsteps.
So many layers of storyline, intrigue, relationships and romance here. Rose is kidnapped, fortunately Sheriff Ashley Rawlins (Ash) finds her - but only after a beating and an addiction to heroin. A podcaster claiming info on a “serial killer”, a corrupt previous sheriff which Ash is still cleaning up after, and a set of veterans who, while needing therapy, can kick some a$$. Combine all this with K-9's and a host of small-town characters, and you have a delightful, intricate, edge-of-your-seat read which is highly entertaining.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Excellent book absolutely awesome so much suspense and intrigue on every page it is a gripping story. I recommend to everyone to read this book its gruesome in places but I enjoyed reading this book. Not for everyone , takes all kinds. Thanks
This is one of my very favorite tropes - grumpy/sunshine. This storyline did it justice with so much more! This author has a true gift for romantic suspense….the complexity of both storyline and characters made the romance all the sweeter and in some cases super hot…
This one was all kinds of interesting. From the hate relationship between Rose and Ash at the start, to Rose getting hurt, to the relationship between Rose and Ash changing and Ash fighting things so hard. It was fun to see Zak and Van give Ash so much crap when they realized what was going on with Ash and he was clueless!
Rose and Ash were fun to watch. While Rose might have hated him at times, after she was hurt, he was her safe place, which had her feeling all sorts of things. It didn't help that they had a past from when Rose's mom went missing.
Things got really crazy towards the end when it all came out, who the bad guys were, why and what happened to Rose's mom. Sometimes it's hard to believe that some people are just that evil.
I don't like enemies to lovers stories. I can't get into the whole "it's a thin line between love and hate" thing.
I didn't like either of the main characters much. I did like Dante. He was awesome. I didn't think much of Ash as a cop. I did like the Redwood Coast Rescue team.
I enjoyed the mystery, and the intrigue. I thought some of the dialogue was repetitive. I'm not sure if it seemed that way because I was listening to the audiobook or if it was actually written that way. I think the narration would have been much better with a female narrator like in book 2. I didn't feel like the female voice was the narrator's strong suit.
The subplot of the Shadow Stalker continued in this book. There were a couple of things revealed and resolved. The fact that the Shadow Stalker "myth" continues does not take away from this book.
I am giving this 3 stars due to not liking the lead characters interactions, attitudes, or lack of chemistry, and the narration not being that good.
I kind of want to see how the Shadow Stalker issue is resolved, but I am tired of reading books about women being abused, trafficked, attacked, etc. so I don't know if I will continue with the next book.
Oh freaking hell! Tonya just delivered a masterpiece I did not see coming. Having read nearly all of her books - I do have favorites, sure, but Ash and Rose just made it to the top of that list. Betrayal, corruption, lies and promises- all build around a Sheriff who seems a little out of his league and working nonstop with what the former Sheriff left, he needs to protect Rose from a power neither saw coming - out to kill her. Meanwhile dealing with his own demons from his past haunting him. Fabulous work - I voluntarily reviewed as an arc - that I can’t wait to continue- and with what’s written in the epilogue… :-o

Searching for Justice Redwood Coast Rescue, Book 3 By: Tonya Burrows Narrated by: Stephen Borne
It is great to be back in Tonya Burrows’ “Redwood Coast Rescue” world again for another amazing romantic suspense. I am loving this series and the amazing world Burrows created, it has become one of my favorite places to visit and spend time in. This third book is Sheriff Ash Rawlings and Ambrosia “Rose” Galasso’s story, and wow, what a story it is. Ash is all about law and order, and is busy taking over for the former sheriff, who was lazy and corrupt. Rose owns and runs a pub in town and is not a fan of the uptight sheriff and she does not hide her dislike for him. The two have history that goes back to when he first joined the sheriff’s office and it is not a good history. There is a lot going on in this small town and there is a podcaster who is certain there is a serial killer on the loose. Rose’s aunt is questioning whether the body that was found is that of Rose’s mother, but the sheriff is certain they have the murderer and does not want to open that case again. But how certain is he and what if that body was Rose’s mom and she was a victim of the supposed serial killer? Lots of unanswered questions, and then someone kidnaps Rose, drugged her up, but the sheriff finds her in time. He goes into a protective mode with Rose, which puts them in close proximity with each other, and it does not go off too well at first, but the two realize that there is a great chemistry between them. Was all that angst and fighting just foreplay for what was to become of them and their relationship? I loved how everything played out in this book, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. This enemies-to-lovers romantic suspense is captivating from start to end. It has the perfect balance of drama, angst, mystery, twists and turns, thrilling and suspenseful moments, emotional moments, and steamy romance. Tonya Burrows, thank you for another amazing story and wild ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Tonya Burrows cast the perfect narrator to bring her characters and story to life. Stephen Borne covers the roles of both the male and female characters, giving each their own distinct voice, making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. His character voices have been consistent throughout the series and the quality of the audio is top-notch. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling every single one. Stephen Bourne is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.
WOW This is such an entertaining story..Full of mystery, romance and steam. This is an enemies to lovers romance between a Sheriff and a bar owner.. Ash and Rose have history many years ago when Rose's mother goes missing Ash was still young and just at the start of his job in the sheriff's department..Rose's mothers disappearence was one of his first big cases, and he promised a young Rose that he would find her mum. But that never happens instead her father is arrested and convicted of her murder even with no body he is thrown in jail. Rose grows up Hating Ash Rawlings for his empty promises, its just annoying that he is so handsome and sexy. Ash is a workaholic and is determined to help Rose, he is forced to re-open her mum's case after rose is found by him battered and beaten. She had been abducted, drugged, beaten and left for dead someone wants to kill Rose and they don't know why. What they do know is that it has something to do with her mum Harmony and her death..maybe the person who killed her mum now wants to kill Rose but why?...Ash is determined to find out and to make amends for the past. Ash assigns himself as Rose's personal protection, and as they spend more time together..instead of hating one another like they have been doing for many years...Other feelings start to emerge, like lust posessiveness and love. Ash is such a surprise he is the biggest grump very straight laced but when he is with Rose he loses control. In their sexy times he is very demanding and domineering, but Rose pushes back and doesn't just relent to his Alpha ways. They are explosive when together and you see a vunerable side to Ash too,Rose is a tough cookie but the threat to her life shakes her she only feels safe when she is around Ash which is both annoying and comforting all at the same time for her. I loved listening to the audiobook version of this story Stephen Borne is excellent portraying both female and male characters.I enjoyed listening to his voice. Searching for Justice by Tonya Burrows is a captivating story with some suspense and mystery thrown in,its full of sexual tension, banter and a very intriguing plot. I enjoyed listening to it very much. Fabulous 5 Stars.
Reihe in der richtigen Reihenfolge: Searching for Rescue Searching for Risk Searching for Justice
Another steamy, thrilling tale from Tonya Burrows! This time Ash and Rose get their hard fought romance in the books. They have a contentious relationship because, years ago when Ash was a deputy, he and the then sheriff arrested her father for the murder of her mother. Yeah, that caused some issues.
Ash and Rose are both complex characters with lots of baggage to overcome. Ash is feeling burdened by his job as the sheriff of a county that's been on fire, skeleton(s) found, and cleaning up the sheriff's office from previous corruption. He has his work cut out for him and Alexis Summers (true crime podcaster) mentions the possibility of a serial killer hiding in the woods. So, he's got a lot of things to worry about and Rose makes sure nothing is easy for him. Ash and Rose are fun together. Rose gets Ash to, on occasion, look at the bigger picture and, sometimes, that doesn't involve work. Rose has had a tough life, but doesn't let that stop her from running a successful business and being a good person to listen to your problems. They are perfect for each other, if only they open up to the idea. There's tons of action and adventure, and twists and turns. The story is highly entertaining with great characters, and plenty of dogs included! I liked the inclusion of Redwood Coast Rescue and all of the doggies. It was another entertaining story and I'm looking forward to the next one!
The story contains swearing, steamy scenes (slow burn hate sex!), scenes involving an abduction, violence, and drug use. While the story can be read by itself, I recommend reading/listening to the previous ones prior to fully understand the background of the story.
I liked the narrator! He always does a good job with all the voices, and differentiating between each voice in the scene for the listener to follow along. He voices the male and female characters well, really giving the characters life and making them relatable. I listened at 1.15x speed.
Oh it's excellent, really it even can be read as stand alone but if you have read prior books it give you a deeper understanding on some characters dynamics but you can easily jump into this one without have read any book in this series .
Ash is the Sheriff and he is bent on respecting rules, protocols especially after past sheriff was found guilty of interfering with some cases leading to innocents suffering. He is not sure who he can trust and determined to do the job he is reaching his limit not sleeping enough trying to do everything alone. Then his sister trust him with a K9 for protection but Dante is not easy at first and Ash does not think he has the time especially when a member of the community is found drugged, beaten .....he is determined to protect Rose no matter how long it takes.
Rose is angry with the Sheriff...she does not trust him because of her past....She is independent, strong willed and speaking her mind but she is also a great barmaid ( owner^^) and attentive to her customers needs, welcoming the group of vets for their therapy for example. However when she is attacked, kidnapped and drugged she sees another side of Ash her protector. The line between love and hate is small especially seeing how dedicated he can be.
I LOVED it!! really the investigation is great with many twists and some sad moments, steamy ones, some funny ones and lot lot of action. Dante is perfect for Ash even if he does not realise it at first ...Rose and Ash interactions make sense when we learn about their past and i so wanted Ash to have more backup that what he has, at least his friends are willing to step in when needed. There is also a big cliffhanger leading to another case chilling our bones so the tension stay high until the last page
Wow. Just wow. Ash, what a tough nut to crack. He's as large as life, and his emotional frame of mind is just as large. He was so tough on himself, and his darkness was palpable. There was a lot of torture in this alphas soul. There was a lot of guilt and redemption that he had to work through. It was a relief to see he could unravel to the right woman. Rose turns out to be the best voice of reason, and Ashes saviour. Tonya did a great job in writing his slow realisation coming to fruition with the help of the h, which was surprising seeing as the 2 almost hate each other. But as they say, it's a fine line between love and hate. There were hot, steamy times rolling through the emotional tension.. The mystery ramps up with an ugly, scary piece of action, and the suspense is constant as I waited for the bad guys to pounce. The plot wasn't super fast in this storyline, but the angst kept me listening. I fist pumped when Ash brought in the alphas and their dogs to help. It was so exciting to have all of them solving the crime and more. This was an involved plot that made me keep my finger on the pulse. I had to make sure I stayed with the story. As I didn't want to miss anything. There were some surprising, nasty twists that only came close to the end, which I didn't figure at all. It was great to hear of old favourites making an appearance, and I got all teary when Zac's troubles creep in. This book felt like the final bit of information that fills in the gaps of the Hs in this series. All the history between them as well as their own demons. Love the animals, especially Dante, an absolute hero and one that parallels his handler perfectly. And I can't wait for the next book to drop to audible. Fantastic book. Thanks, Tonya .
Searching for Justice Redwood Coast Rescue, Book 3 By: Tonya Burrows Narrated by: Stephen Borne
Oh this series! I love a good romantic suspense, and each of the books Tonya Burrows has in the Redwood Coast Rescue series delivers everything I love about the trope! This book features Ash, the sheriff and he has had his share of ups and downs. Now taking on his role as sheriff, he is in the midst of cleaning up the mess that was left for him. But that doesn't include a nosy podcast host who is determined to find the serial killer in the county. Now that a body has been recently found, she is sinking her teeth even deeper in. Rose, the bar owner is feisty! She holds no love for the sheriff as he helped pull apart her family. When she is brutally attacked though, he comes to her rescue and the two find a chemistry between them they didn't know they shared. Plus now with the new body found, the possibility of redemption for her father is on the horizon. But the question then remains, who killed her mother, and why? Is there really a serial killer nearby? And what of the new feelings between Rose and Ash? This is a fantastic listen, with twists and turns I didn't see coming. The story is smartly written, the romance has the push pull that only an amazing enemies to lovers story can have and the results left me wanting more! Bring on book 4! I need to know what happens next!
Stephen Borne is a favorite, and he just knows how to connect with his characters. Each one perfectly suited with a voice that is full of the personality expected. He builds the suspense, leaves the emotions high and gives the passion and spice a kick! Loved his performance.
Notoriously grumpy lawman Sheriff Ash Rawlings lives by the book, valuing structure and order. Already overworked and overwhelmed trying to keep his county safe and clean out the rot left behind by his corrupt predecessor, he doesn’t have time for distractions—least of all a new K9 partner with a nose for trouble and the rebellious Rose Galasso, the local pub’s wild, infuriating owner. Rose wants nothing to do with the uptight sheriff who ruined her life 13 years ago, but the recent wildfire that wreaked havoc on the county also uncovered a body. The cold case that’s haunted them for years draws the bickering pair together with great reluctance, but when Rose’s ties to the victim put her in ever increasing danger, they must face their turbulent history to solve the case and survive.
Searching for Justice is the third novel in the Redwood Coast Rescue series, and my favourite so far. MMC Ash and FMC Rose are both engaging, flawed individuals in their own right. I love a growly MMC, so I was keen to get to know the grumpy county sheriff better, and Rose, too, had caught my interest as a recurring character due to her sass and unapologetic bite (even though she annoyed the sh*t out of me at times, I was glad she kept that throughout the novel). Their enemies-to-lovers style romance was especially well done, though there was an element spice-wise that needed more careful consideration. The mystery plot was solid, with a great twist. I thought the breadcrumbs for it were well laid for a satisfying ah-ha! moment at the climax.
Tonya Burrows romantic suspense books just keep getting better. This one is very well named. These people are truly searching for justice for Pete Glasso, who was wrongly convicted for murdering his wife. There are so many story threads in this series and Tonya keeps feeding us information keeping us interested in where this series is going. This is my reading candy!
Ambrosia "Rose" Glasso was raised from her teens by her aunt Rainbow after her dad was sent to prison. It's a enemies to lovers because Sheriff Ash Rawlings was a new deputy and was involved with Pete's original arrest thirteen years ago when Rose's life changed. She hates him for arresting her dad. The former sheriff was corrupt and Ash is going though all the old case files. Ash finds himself becoming Rose's protector when she's abducted from her bar and tortured. When the Jane Doe discovered after the wildfire in the previous book turns out to be Rose's mother Harmony, he's determined to find out what really happened. There is a lot going on in this story that keeps your interest and I love the interactions between Ash and his boyhood friends Zak and Donovan along with the rest of the vets in the recovery group. I can't wait to see what she cooks up for Alexis Summers, the podcaster who's been abducted!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
13 years ago, new to the force Ash Rawlings was ordered to arrest Rose’s dad for her mom’s murder though they hadn’t found a body and despite Rose’s ability to give him a viable alibi. As bartender Rose Galasso began closing for the night, she and her aunt decided to give DNA in case the body unearthed in the wildfires was her mom. While podcaster Alexis Summers argued at Ash, now there was a serial killer working his way through the county, Rose was being beaten and kidnapped by a masked man.
Reviewing the data Alexis left, something tickles Ash’s memory. While looking around in an abandoned gas station on a deserted road Ash found Rose, bruised and bound. Before he could tend her, he fought a masked man who ran away after threatening Ash’s family. At the hospital, Ash can’t yet talk to Rose and is confused by his softer feelings toward her. At his office, Ash meets his new partner, rehabilitated police K9 Dante. While checking on Rose at the hospital, a man comes to kill Rose despite Ash being with her, in uniform.
As Rose walks her road to recovery, Dante decided she was one of his favorite people and wouldn’t leave Rose, all Ash could do was take it upon himself and to at least be her bodyguard as the feelings they have for each other. The tale progresses with more attacks and the mystery gets more suspects and reasons for the attacks. Then Ash finds a thread to pull. Rating: 4.5stars
A steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic suspense in the third instalment of the Redwood Coast Rescue series. It wouldn't be a day well spent for Ash and Rose if they didn't find time to wind each other up. Ash is a grumpy, by-the-book lawman with hidden depths who delights in threatening Rose with shutting down her pub. Rose is feisty and independent and takes no nonsense from Ash, giving as good as she gets. When Ash finds Rose after her kidnapping, he is compelled to stay with her and help her recover and find those responsible. The development of their relationship from animosity to love is a central and enjoyable aspect of the book for me. Their backstory explains why Rose dislikes Ash so much and why they have the relationship they do. This is quite an emotional story as it involves the historical murder of Rose's mother and the impact that had on her growing up. The loss of a mother and father practically overnight had a long-reaching impact on her. I liked all the secondary characters, but particularly loved how the locals in the support group took her under their wing when she was struggling to cope with the trauma of her abduction. The story has many twists and turns that kept my interest piqued and I was completely taken aback by how the story unravelled in the end. I thought I had it all figured out until the author pulled the rug right under me. A great read all the way through.
