***This novel is an examination of narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) intended to bring social awareness as well as inspire those affected to reclaim the life they deserve through the lens of the main character's riveting accounts of abuse, self-discovery and perseverance***

Charlie has a secret—one that would shock family and friends.

Set in Washington, DC suburbia, “Charlie’s Secret” is inspired by real-life events. The main character, Charlie Robinson, reeks of perfection. Although she presents an outwardly perfect marriage and lifestyle, in actuality, she’s hiding a dark secret. Over the years, Charlie finds solace from her overwhelming troubles in a western inspired urban community. She seems to be managing life challenges effectively with weekly trail rides around the city as one of the “fabulous five,” four women and a guy. However, things take an ugly turn when she and her friends get an opportunity at having their very own reality television show. This causes her husband, Mark, to become even more evil and vengeful. Meanwhile, Charlie forges a bond with Zack, the sexy photographer, behind the scenes. Inspired by their connection, she sets on a path of introspection. Once she finally lets her equine sister-circle in on the secret, they plan what they consider to be the perfect cross-country escape …but will she make it out alive?

Follow her harrowing tale of self-discovery, forgiveness and pursuit of God in the adrenaline rushing western inspired emotional urban drama.

Note from the author:
As a young adult, a close friend and I started a book club. We read novels from the likes of Dan Brown, Alice Walker, E. Lynn Harris, Toni Morrison, Terry McMillan, Sister Souljah and Maya Angelou just to name a few.

Among this close group is where I cultivated my love for the arts and shared my dream to one day write a novel. I attempted many times over the years but never stayed consistent as life got in the way.

I hope you enjoy Charlie's journey with me. It’s been an emotional one.

If you or someone you know is going through challenging times, don’t let your world spin out of control. Seek the Lord to find the strength you may not know you have. In the meantime, breathe, be kind to yourself, and take things one day at a time.

Melody law is a Washington, DC local and glad mother of two. She presently dwells in radiant Southern California. Melody went to the University of the District of Columbia where she got a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She is the co-founder of an organization, Urban Cowgirls, which provides education on horses and emotional therapy to women. Melody is an active member of California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV), the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADC).
Melody’s debut book, Charlie’s Secret, is an inspirational story and is based on true events in the author’s life, which makes the book more spellbinding and intriguing. The characters, emotions and pain described in the book were believable. The female protagonist of the story ‘Charlie’ is married for past 25 years and guarding a terrible secret. She is married to monstrous and dangerous narcissist man who has trapped her with his lies and deceit. She is in an abusive marriage in which she not only bears domestic violence but also raise her children all alone. The story revolves around Charlie and how she escapes from her abusive husband.
Charlie’s Secret is an excruciating story which many readers would find relatable. Readers could relate with the violence, physical and mental abuse endured by Charlie. But hopefully the book encourages readers to how to toss out from a toxic relation and evolve self-love. It is a motivational story with many valuable lessons.

I was not impressed with this book at all. I only got half way thru it and had to quit. The story does not ring true and from what I read, things were not so bad that it wasn't even mentioned. I didn't want gory details, but when it is fluffed away it makes you wonder. I felt there could have been more depth to the characters and story line. I am sure there was abuse, but the story could of withstood some great editing.
