Conner Kent takes center stage! After the events of Dark Crisis, Conner feels out of place with the rest of the hero community. He doesn’t fit in with the rest of the Superman Family, and the rest of the world doesn’t really need him with so many Supers in Metropolis. He doesn’t want to rely on Tim, Cassie, and Bart, so Conner looks to the stars as a place he might be able to call his own and carve out his own path. But what lurks in the great unknown? Are bravado and swagger enough to help Superboy find his new calling? This is the 2022 Round Robin winner-picked by you, the fans!
I actually really love how DC are doing a bunch of mini-series’ for lesser characters, so you're getting a story with no filler, and don't have to commit to 50+ issues.
Connor is a relatively new character to me (I'm not ashamed to admit my ignorance) so it was fun to see him in this fresh start.
The issue starts with him wanting to help but being kind of out-classed. There is an abundance of heroes taking care of everything - they've got Earth covered. So Connor is forced to look elsewhere for beings in distress.
This was a fun intro, and I'm excited to see what the next issue brings. It's lighter than most DC stuff so it's quite a refreshing read.
i dont know what to think about this overall honestly. Im not sure why everyone forgot him or how he didnt exist. And its kind of weird to read him as the more original older version tha nthe Johns Teen Titans version I grew up with and read. So hes like this idiot kid almost here and just making impulsive decisions and going without back up or telling anyone anything... theres just a lot. I dont know if this was enough of a hook for me to get drawn in and go ahead and sbu to the series but I do think that anyone who enjoyed the 80s titans would probably enjoy seeing him like this again. And its nice to see his powers different than Clarks vs exactly the same.
After the events of Dark Crisis, Conner Kent is unsure of his place amongst such a big Superman family. He looks to help off-world instead, and what unfolds is a compelling first issue that has a wonderful art style, gets to Conner's inner struggles rather well, and has me looking forward to where his story will go next.
[3.75/5] Extremely solid start to the series. I think it hits all of the points I was looking for in a Superboy story. I'll definitely be keeping up with this series as it's coming out. The only gripe I have is that Conner looks younger than I think he is. Not a huge one but still one nonetheless.
Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1 is a DC Comics issue written by Kenny Porter and illustrated and colored by Jahnoy Lindsay.
After reality was rewritten without him, Superboy is still trying to find his place on an Earth he is not familiar with. He wants to help but every turn he makes he already see heroes saving the day. After deciding maybe the Earth is too small, he sets his sights on helping the galaxy and teleports to an unknown regions to fight against a Dominator invasion.
Connor Kent Superboy was my first love in comics so it’s fun to see him return to the DC Universe in his (updated) legendary 90s design. The book keeps his leap before looking attitude towards helping which often lands him being in over his head. It’s a pretty standard trope for teenage superheroes, but it works effectively nonetheless. The art is pretty good throughout but some of the smaller panels look very scratchy. Overall, it’s a solid first issue!
I do not know much about Superboy but I decided to follow this new serie as all superman family titles have been very good these past 2 years. It was ok.
But what is the story about him coming back in existence again? I read Infinite Frontier and I do not remember his coming back being part of it? I also read Dark Crisis and he was part of a Young Justice tie-in mini-serie where his coming back was also a big deal but I still do not know how...
Conner needs to find his place in the world and there are too many ‘ Super’ people around so he moves off planet and lands himself smack dab in the middle of a war.
He seems to have moved backwards in terms of his clothes but his characterization is moving forward. He isn’t the brash young, insecure man he once was but it still forms a big part of who he is.
Excited to see Kon/Conner return to his original design and themes! This trying to prove yourself/find your way narrative works wonders with his character, and I'm honestly super interested to see where they go with this series.
Pretty great read and art! Was bummed that I had to do some research to know exactly what was going on in the comic, but I feel like 9/10 you have to do that with a #1 these days. Look forward to reading more :)
A great start to what it’s looking to be a series with a lot of potential. I’m loving the art and how Conner is written, and the action is pretty impactful too (similar to DBZ) in some shots.
Conner tratando de buscar un sentido en su vida es algo que no imaginé que trataria este arco y la verdad me ha dejado completamente atrapado. Seguiré la obra indiscutiblemente.
