Hard to imagine a generation that lived through
the Civil War AND WWI. Astonishing.

Juliette Low was super cool. She almost seems unreal. Born in Georgia, accidentally insulted freaking General Grant when she was a little girl, became deaf in one ear after trying a new medical treatment on herself, married a titled British guy, became a blacksmith for fun, offered humanitarian aid to people during WWI, founded the girl scouts, and traveled the world. I mean. And she was super pretty.

I loved this book, except for the Indian kidnapping story, which was shockingly dark compared to the rest of this child-friendly book. But I guess kids were probably exposed to some pretty dark stuff by necessity more than today.
