Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is book one of the Undercover Operatives series by Tawny Weber. I read this book as part of the Undercover Festivities anthology. I won it in a give-a-way package by one of the authors.

Caleb Black has handed in his resignation to his commanding officer. He is an undercover agent for the DEA and he is burnt out. He’s been deep undercover for so long, he doesn’t even remember who he is anymore. But his best friend and fellow agent needs a favor from him. One more job. There is a new drug that has hit the streets in Caleb’s home town of Black Oak, CA. Caleb’s dad who was a very talented con man but has now gone clean, is at the top of the list of suspects. No one in Black Oak knows that Caleb is a cop, they all think he’s a low life, unemployed loser, perfect cover. But when Caleb gets to Black Oak, a new suspect comes under suspicion.

black cat - Google Search:

Pandora Easton left Black Oak with no intention of coming back. But here she is, having been fired from her job as a pastry chef due to a big misjudgment of character of her now EX-boyfriend, she is home to try to save the family business, Moonspun Dreams. The store which sold New Age paraphernalia and also where her mother would give readings to clients was going under. Her mother handed it over to her, along with it’s two resident black cats, to do what she could to save it. When she finds an old cook book of her great-grandmother’s with recipes full of aphrodisiacs sure to stimulate even the lowest of libidos, she decides to use her pastry chef talents and open a café offering items sure to spice up every couple’s sex life.

Sex, Lies and Mistletoe Tawny Weber:

“Wasn’t it ironic? It was because of sex that she’d had to run home and now sex was going to be the thing that saved that home.”

When Caleb meets Pandora, the attraction is immediate. But Pandora is not his type at all. She’s a good girl, definitely not the sort he usually goes for. But something about her draws him in. Pandora can’t take her eyes off Caleb when he came in. He’s the most beautiful man she’s ever seen. One touch from him and she’s a goner. She won’t hesitate to use her aphrodisiac laden treats to win herself one night to remember. But she knows Caleb is not the forever after type of guy. So, one night will have to be enough.

chocolate cake:

When Caleb learns of the circumstances of Pandora’s being fired, he begins to wonder just what is going on behind the scenes at her café. Could she be involved?

Their one night leads to many more as Caleb just can’t seem to get enough of Pandora. He has to admit that he has deep feelings for her. He knows she is innocent, but he has to prove it, to the feds and to himself, as well as prove his father’s innocence. But to do that, he has to figure out who is the guilty party, who is running the show. And he is convinced that somehow, Moonspun Dreams is right in the middle of it all.

“Passion throbbed, urging him to take it deeper, to go faster. But he resisted. For the first time in forever, Caleb felt as if he’d come home.”

“Sweetheart, I honestly don’t know where I’m going to be, or where I want to be, in two weeks. But I do know I’m exactly where I want to be right this minute.”

kissing against the wall:

This is my first ever Tawny Weber book. I loved it. The characters were so endearing. I loved Pandora’s mix of innocence and bravery. And Caleb, for me, was love at first sight. These two together were perfect. Adding in a little suspense to this sexy Christmas story made it perfect. I most definitely will be looking for more by this new to me author.

Whoa! Hellooo sexy prodigal son biker dude with a chip on his shoulder with a magic hoo-hoo that induces fourteen orgasms in one night.

Caleb Black ran wild when he was younger, pulling cons with his father and being a total badass with a reputation with his brother. He got tired of that life and joined the DEA. Before retiring, his friend from the FBI pulls the "owe-me card." Now he must go back to his home town (where his family pretty much runs the town) to find out who is responsible for the spike in drug trafficking. The FBI think it's his father but Caleb swears his old man is out of the business. He's gone straight and is running a bike shop (West Coast choppers style).

Pandora Easton has come back to Black Oak to run the New Age store that's slowly failing while her mother is away on a retreat. She's included a cafe where she sells aphrodisiac foods like four-layer Foreplay Chocolate Cake to help drive the sales to save the shop. There's a little something-something in there. The whole town is sexed up with these little morsels of goodness and Pandora gets feedback from the elderly citizens regarding their sex lives. Eww, no thanks.

The moment Caleb walks into Moonspun Dreams decked out in a leather jacket and butt hugging jeans, Pandora is physically attracted to him. He's all sorts of yummy and gorgeous but after getting burned by The Ex, she's cautious about who she hooks up with. The Ex was into some sort of shady dealing and she was implicated. Running away from it all, she heads to Black Oak.

The attraction is instant between Caleb and Pandora and hotter than the fire blazing in the fireplace during the coldest winter day. Caleb wonders if this woman is involved in something illegal, operating from the back of her shop. After a sizzling, panty melting, do-it-with-your-boot-on-cause-you're-too-far-gone night together, Caleb can't believe Pandora has gotten under his skin. His lust meter is sky high and Pandora feels the same. The town gossips have a new rumor to spread and happily do so. The good girl who turned down Sheriff McHottiepants and got together with Biker Bad Boy Caleb Black.

As Caleb and Pandora spent more time together, their feelings change. Caleb feels like an Asshole of The First Order for snooping around trying to find any incriminating evidence that would point to Pandora dealing drugs and using her store as a cover. After all, it's full of New Age woo-woo and people have been acting a little off since indulging in all the aphrodisiac-y treats. Pandora can't believe that she's falling for Caleb. Never again, she'd vowed to herself.

Caleb must clear his father's name as well as Pandora's while sneaking around making sure no one is the wiser about his intentions. Falling for Pandora only complicates things. He's not meant to feel tingly, sugarplum-y feelings. He's freaking Caleb Black, resident Bad Boy for goodness sake! *snort* Merry Christmas Caleb Black, you've just been hit with the magic of the holidays and her name is Pandora Easton.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Are you looking for a hero?" he asked, mentally rolling his eyes. At the question, because wasn't that what all women were looking for? A mythical guy to sweep them away and make all their dreams come true? And at the idea of him being hero material.

OVERALL: A sexy, sizzling, oh my god!, laugh out loud read. A must add to your Christmas romance book reading list. My first Tawny Weber book and let me tell you, I was fanning myself when Pandora and Caleb were getting their aphrodisiac induced sexy on. This is the first of the Undercover Operatives series and I look forward to the other two Black sibling's books.

First Line:
“I’VE MADE THE ARRANGEMENTS. Everything is in place.”
As the assurance echoed through his speakerphone, Tobias Black leaned back in his Barcalounger, shifted an unlit cigar between his teeth and grinned.
“That was fast. I didn’t think you’d pull it off.”
A lie, of course.

Teaser:
“I like how you follow directions,” she said against his lips, her laugh only a little bit nervous.
“Let’s see how you do,” he returned, leaning back so he could see the bounty he’d released. “Take it off.”
“I beg your—”
“Off,” he demanded. To emphasize his command, he took those amazing hands off her and stepped backward. Pandora wanted to whimper. She wasn’t sure if it was over the loss of his magic fingers, the denial of his body. Or if it was pure embarrassment of having him this focused on her body. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t centerfold quality, either.

Plot:
A perfect holiday story to enjoy by the fire or poolside, it's that versatile. Sex, Lies and Mistletoe delivered a sensually romantic story that warmed my heart with just the right amount of suspense to keep me guessing along the way. I love that the backbone of this book is based on the strength of family and I must add I love a story that has a message! Problems or not, misunderstandings or buried shame--it's of no consequence. In the end, blood is blood and when Caleb's father needs help proving he is innocent of running drugs con-man dad works his connections to make sure it's his DEA agent son that rides into town to help. Mixed emotions tango with self doubt painting Pandora and Caleb's story which brings to light a truth so many experience in their own lives in one form or other. The truth of validation and acceptance plays a huge part in Sex, Lies and Mistletoe that added even more spice and intrigue that effectively captured my attention until the very satisfying ending.
Ms. Weber knows how to heighten the senses and build the passion with her characters and Pandora and Caleb suffered through many a moments where nothing more than a heated gaze could be had. Their banter was often lighthearted and humorous and had me laughing out loud on many occasion! The author balanced this out with a good portion of tense moments when the heroine struggled to understand her lack of self confidence and her attraction to Caleb when all she wanted to do was run and hide.
The author smoothly intertwined the lives of Pandora and Caleb with the past of both their families, giving it a richer story that allowed me to get a strong feeling for what to expect in the coming two installments of Ms. Weber's Undercover Operatives. The ending was just as good as the opening and left me ready for the next book in the series!

Setting:
Pandora and Caleb's story takes place in Black Oak, a small town in the foothills of Santa Cruz Mountains where gossip and delicious aphrodisiac treats are the favorite pastime.

Writing:
Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is my first book from Tawny Weber but is far from the last. I was immediately drawn into her book by her ability to write in a man's perspective. When I can hear the character actually speaking in a roughened voice or smell the cigarette smoke as it taints the pages I read, I know I will love the author. Ms. Weber did just that! Her imagination and ability to create unique characters also intrigued me, making me want to pick up the next book to find out what she has awaiting her readers.

Characters:
The heroine, Pandora Easton, was so easy to like, but don't let her kind heart and gentle smile fool you. When riled, she can dish out just as good as any hardened DEA agent that has stared death in the face a time or two in the past. After returning to her home town to heal from a relationship gone terribly wrong, Pandora takes over the family business, Moonspun Dreams. I enjoyed reading and following along as Pandora slowly and surely regained her self-confidence, as she re-discovered her inner strength and to learn how not to rely on her mother's psychic abilities when it came to decision making. Though nervous around Caleb, I really enjoyed how she saw her flaws in herself and was determined to over come them by never letting her fear control her. Now, she might have seen her flaws, but understanding them and why she has them is another story and one that gets unwrapped as her journey continues. The hero, DEA agent Caleb Black, was a complete tough as nails bad boy gone good without losing the bad boy quality. Just what I like in a hero! His sexual prowess never faltered but when it came to Pandora he turned into a man willing to do anything to protect the first and only woman to hold his heart in her hands. And odd pair with a combustible attraction!

Last Thoughts:
Tawny Weber's Undercover Operatives is on my MUST-READ list for 2012! With the heart melting attraction Pandora and Caleb shared, I am betting the second book will knock my socks off!

The first chapter promises what the rest of the book delivers – laughs, embarrassing moments for both heroine and hero, a mystery slowly unfolding and two unlikely people falling in love despite the suspicions that surround them. There’s not a slow moment in the entire book. Sex, Lies and Mistletoe entertains and amuses in every chapter.

The one thing I look forward to when I read a book by Ms. Webber is the laugh hook. She always manages to have either the heroine or hero experience, say or do something totally off the wall funny and this story does not disappoint. I also enjoyed the author’s inclusion and acknowledgement of older folk having sensual fun and the heroine’s blushing response to some of it. It was adorable and many times had me giggling. The author was quite respectful of the fact that love is ageless, enthusiasm for the fun things in life are just as important in our later years as when our hormones are in peak production, all the while making me smile.

Clearly, this is a standalone book because it’s the first in a new trilogy and I liked how the author set it up. Basically, it’s about a dysfunctional family whose patriarch has decided that being a family, whole and hale, is more important than the vagaries of his youth. But his influence on his children is profound and he is going to have to use very sneaky means to reach his goal. The author hints at what it might be, and teases as to who the ‘insider’ is. Certainly, it’s a clever use of intrigue because after reading the book, it sounds like someone is a bit smarter than the old man and things may not go the way he hopes. Because the underlining story arc is about family, I am very interested in reading the rest of the series. Especially if the future books are as good as this one.

I loved the name, “Pandora”. The heroine sure has an uphill battle. Not only to save her family’s store, but to overcome her own insecurities. There was a lot of internal conflict that she had to sort through before she allowed herself to believe that what she felt for the hunky and oh so bad but delicious hero, Caleb, was real. I liked the love/annoyed relationship with her mother and her enthusiasm for food. I also enjoyed watching her tennis match-like attraction to Caleb. He was hard to resist.

Caleb is a well rounded hero. He is the epitome of perfection in his imperfection. His views of family life, his love for his father despite its causing him headaches and his internal dilemmas that he has to overcome to move forward, all made him a wonderful man to read about. The fact that his body goes into overdrive whenever he’s around Pandora provided some very entertaining moments.

And that’s another great thing about this story – the sensual buildup. The attraction was instantaneous but the minefield they had to navigate before they reached the sheets made for some fun reading. When they finally got together, it was pretty explosive and Ms. Webber delivered some satisfying and well written love action. It was a great balance.

Secondary characters play major roles as supportive casts or bad guys. But I’m not going to discuss which is which because the author laid a red herring among them. I liked that. Yes, I figured it out before the ‘great reveal’ but I totally enjoyed every moment of the journey getting to the point when the heroine and hero figured it out too. I’d call it light drama – nothing too heavy but it sure spiced things up nicely. Even though the title has “mistletoe’ in the title, I would not consider this a holiday themed story.

Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is a delightful romp that is sweeter than honey and hotter than the hottest hot chocolate. It’s entertaining, exciting and absolutely piqued my interest for which sibling gets their happily ever after next. If Caleb was a tough nut to crack, I can’t wait to find out what Ms. Webber comes up with to get the next one on board the love train. With any luck it’ll be an equally bumpy ride with as good a payoff at the end as this one was. Ms. Webber writes satisfying romance with kick that also makes you laugh and want to come back for more.

I have read a few of Tawny Weber's Blaze books, they always deliver light. frothy and sexy fun and Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is no different.

Caleb Black is a burnt-out DEA agent who has seen and done plenty. When he hears from his FBI buddy that a new drug has cropped up in his hometown of Black Oaks and the prine suspect is Caleb's estranged father, Tobias, Caleb in none too happy. Caleb decides to take the time off his boss has been nagging him to go on, and while he is at it also check out what is going on in Black Oaks. Nose around without drawing suspension.

Pandora Easton is back in her hometown of Black Oaks after her life just collapsed in pieces courtesy of her scamming boyfriend who not also stole from her but mired her in his illegal internet scheme. Pandora is licking her wounds after also losing her job in the process. She takes a job in her family's generations old store, Moonspun Dreams. Business is not great so Pandora comes up with an idea, 'sex sells'. She opens the Moonspun Cafe and offers delicate and delectable foodstuffs containing aphrodisiacs. It certainly stirs up the gray-hairs in town and soon her business is a success.

When Caleb walks into Pandora's shop, she is sure he is a walking aphrodisiac as she has an immediate reaction and vice versa. Little does Pandora know she is on Caleb's radar-for the possible drugs activity in town.

Before you know it, Caleb and Pandora are sharing a piece of seven layer foreplay cake and they are off and running. Is the hot sex they shared because of the cake, or is there more going on here?
While I found this story sweet and sexy in its way, it lacked any real emotional depth between the hero and heroine. For a burnt out DEA agent, I didn't get any sense Caleb was tortured or had that many internal conflicts. However that said, Caleb is imminently likeable and charming in his standoffish way.
Subplots abound with a 'dipwad' sheriff who is sniffing around Pandora in a sexual way and who Caleb knew from school as the arrogant quarterback. Also I did like the scenes between Caleb and his father, is Tobias behind the rash of drugs flowing through Black Oaks?
The Christmas backdrop is not really relevant to the story, but adds to the family theme of the book.
All in all, this was a good read, it delivers a solid sexy story.

3.5 out of 5 rounded up to 4~

Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is the first book in the Undercover Operatives series by Tawny Weber and a Romance from Harlequin Blaze.

Book Blurb:

He sees her when she’s sleeping...

Undercover DEA agent Caleb Black is home for the holidays - possibly to bust his own father. But maybe Caleb’s con-man dad isn’t the one running drugs through the small town of Black Oak. Maybe it’s the green-eyed goddess who runs the New Age shop and has Caleb under her sultry spell.

Pandora Easton saved the family store with two words: sex sells. And her delectable aphrodisiacs really work, as she’s proven with notorious bad boy Caleb again and again and again.

Little does she guess that, in the end, her most potent potion will be the truth...

My thoughts:

Caleb Black, fed up with his con-man Dad, left his small hometown and entered law enforcement - never looking back. Until now.

Word through the ranks is that drugs are being run in Caleb’s hometown - and all leads point to his Dad. Thinking that Caleb could infiltrate the community fairly easy simply by going home, the FBI call in a favor and Caleb heads back to Black Oak.

Pandora Easton left Black Oak at the first opportunity - hoping to make all of her dreams come true. And she thought she had - a great job, a great boyfriend. Until it all fell apart. Now back home and in charge of the failing family business, Pandora is trying to find a way to keep her family legacy afloat.

Caleb may not want anything to do with his father, but the same can not be said for the beautiful Pandora. Caleb falls hard and fast for the café owner - and the feelings are mutual. But when evidence points to Pandora, Caleb must find a way to clear her name...before she is arrested.

I really enjoy Tawny Weber’s stories and Sex, Lies and Mistletoe is no exception. Ms. Weber creates relatable characters that I want to see get their HEA.

I give Sex, Lies and Mistletoe 4 out of 5 stars.

I won this book in a first-reads contest, and was so excited to see it come in the mail -- it was even autographed to ME!!! Am I a total dork for being super psyched about that? Don't answer....

I've read Tawny Weber before and always enjoyed her books, and was not disappointed in this one. There were a few points where I was left a little lost, guess I couldn't always understand Pandora's motivations or the conflict with her Mother. But the chemistry between Caleb and Pandora was fabulous, and seriously sweet which took me by surprise. So the romance side of things kicked butt, I was just not as happy with the "plot" part...which yeah, I know, I still gave it 4 stars. But chemistry is most important to me. And I was totally absorbed into the town of Black Oak, and looking forward to reading more in the series...we'll see!!

I thoughly enjoyed reading this book!! I won it right here on Goodreads, and now have the follup books on my waiting to have list on Amazon. Can't wait for the next book to see what Caleb's sister, Maya, has been up to and what she will be getting into. The Black family dymanics are very interesting and I can't wait to see where all three black siblings end up.

Very nominally a Christmas read; it does take place around Christmas but that plays very little into the story. It is a fun story with a few twists and turns and a lot of sex and romance. I liked it enough to add the next in the series to my "to read" list.

Sex, Lies & Mistletoe by Tawny Weber
* I received this ARC free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Caleb is going to return home for the holidays to investigate a drug ring in Black Oak and clear his father of any involvement. His father is a career con man but appears to have gone legal with the motorcycle shop he now owns. Caleb is tired of the endless stakeouts and undercover work and is ready for something new in his life; he never thought he’d find it in Black Oak.

When things go bad with her ex-boyfriend, Pandora uses the opportunity to come home to help her mom out. While trying to figure out how to save their family shop, Moonspun Dreams, she comes across her grandmother’s old recipe book. With the added café specializing in eatable aphrodisiacs, she may be able to turn the shop around. She isn’t looking for love but she can’t help but notice when bad boy Caleb walks into her shop.

When Pandora challenges Caleb to resist her meal full of aphrodisiacs, he can’t resist. There is something about this attractive woman that draws him in. Not only is she a great cook but she is sexier than hell and a lot of fun to be around. He enjoys her company and wants to spend more time with her. He is shocked when Hunter suggests that Pandora’s shop is involved in the drug ring in town. Now, not only does he have to prove his dad’s innocence but also the woman he is falling for.

I really liked this story. Pandora is a real woman with real problems. She is curvy and sexy, while being down to earth and fun to be around. She has had bad luck with men in the past and she is leery to put her heart on the line with Caleb. She is attracted to him and finds it gets harder and harder to walk away from him.

Caleb is sexy as hell. He grew up in Black Oak and was always known as a trouble maker because of his father. Growing up, they always had to be ready to pick up and move at the drop of a hat, now he is ready for stability. During the holidays, he is taking a break from his job with the DEA because he is tired of always being undercover and wants to do something different with his life.

My favorite scenes involved the sexy foods that Pandora specializes in. The scene in the shop and the scene at her home were extremely HOT!!! The story was interesting with a subplot of intrigue. The characters were fun and interesting without being overbearing.

I enjoyed the first story in this trilogy and am looking forward to reading the other two. I give Sex, Lies & Mistletoe 4 Flaming Hearts.

This is the first book in a trilogy of siblings that left home after each one reached adulthood and haven't been home since.

Caleb is the oldest child of a widowed father who was a con man all their life. He was taught from a very young age how to get away with many tricks. He left home to become an Undercover DEA agent, now he is heading back to his small town home to possibly arrest his father for running drugs. Being undercover has made him a hard person and he does not let anyone get close to him except for his best friend.

Pandora has also been away from home for many years, but she has come back home after being falsely accused of selling prescription drugs through her computer. Now she is going to try to save the failing New Age store that has been in her family for four generations, but what does she know about selling candles and gem stones, she is a pastry chef. She decides to try her cooking skills in the store by selling foods that are considered aphrodisiacs from her great grandmother's recipes.

Does Caleb think she is the one behind the drugs, selling them in town through her cooking or has his father gone too far and really started running drugs? How far will Caleb go to find out who is behind the drugs in his hometown? Can he prove whether or not Pandora's cooking is causing the feelings he is having for her, or is there more to it?
Will Caleb be able to prove the innocence of the only two suspects, or will one of them not be so innocent.

A surprisingly delicious read!

The title of this book doesn't fit with anything in the story other than mistletoe being associated the season. I would not have picked this book myself based on this title. Luckily it was given to me, so I felt forced to read it.

The New Age twist was unique and well-done. The Eastons were given just the right amount of weirdness to make them stars of their town instead of being portrayed as crazy like many stories would have done.

My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed. Pandora accepted that she was gifted too readily after denying it for her entire life. And Caleb jumped into the job that became available too quick.

What do you do to bring in business to a failing New Age shop? You turn the back room into an aphrodisiac cafe. At least that is what Pandora Easton does.

How do you clean up the drugs and other crime problems in your hometown? You go home to investigate your own father. Caleb Black must prove not only his father's innocence but his girl is in trouble too.

Caleb must prove that Pandora knows nothing about the drug ring working out of Moonspun Dreams. He must prove who is behind the drug ring to protect not only Pandora but his father too. Can he do what he needs to do without blowing his cover with the DEA or does he just not care anymore?

3.5 Stars. I enjoyed this book and it's my first by Tawny Weber. This book really centers around the relationship of Pandora and Caleb although there is a bit of a mystery. I thought the villain was obvious from the beginning but this book isn't really about the suspense and Caleb's investigation is a very small part of this book. I enjoyed Caleb and Pandora and the building of their relationship. It was nice that Caleb felt so guilty for "investigating" Pandora instead of just justifying it. Everything was tied up very easily at the end but it was interesting enough that I am interesting in Caleb's other two siblings.

Sex, Lies and Misteltoe is book one in Tawny Weber's Undercover Operatives series. Caleb and Pandora kept me turning the pages. I loved every minute of their romance and hated to see the book end.

Caleb is undercover trying to figure out who is running drugs in his home town. Suspicions surround Pandora due to the aphrodisiacs in the food she creates for her family shop. As much as he tries, Caleb can't resist Pandora. I love how he can’t resist her. The attraction between them sizzled.

A great read any time of the year. I'm looking forward to the next book, Sex, Lies and Midnight.

I don't venture into the Harlequin Blaze line too often anymore but I received this book free from the author. I like that the hero was an undercover DEA agent (hot and hunky) and the heroine a new age type shop owner - both from such seemingly different worlds, yet they found each other. I have read this author's books before and her dialogue flows, her stories are intriguing and she is a name to be looked at again. When you want somthing enjoyable and fun to read check this author out!

This is the first book in the trilogy, but the second one I read. I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Caleb and Pandora, as well as Pandora's development of self-worth. The romance takes up most of the book, Caleb's investigations are mentioned, but not shown. There is little danger or violence, and I liked that.

Very spicey Christmas romance. Bad boy Caleb Black returns to Black Oak and Pandora Easton also returns to town to save her family business, together they're attracted to each other. Fun read you'll enjoy and I hope we'll see more of the Black family in future books.

First of three, following the Black siblings, coming back to their home town. Caleb, ex DEA, comes to town to find a drug ring, investigating his father and new girlfriend in process. Quirky new age interludes, hot sex and enough hangers for the next book.

Sex, Lies and Mistletoe by Tawny Weber is an entertaining read. Tawny Weber, as usual, delivers a well written story. It has a bit of mystery, great characters, drama and plenty of spice. I look forward to reading more from Tawny Weber. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I really like this book, it kept me in suspense the whole time after Pandora fell for Caleb Black and all the trouble that she went threw before she moved back home to Black Oak, and run her mother's business.

Its exactly what you'd expect from a harlequin romance novel. And since they're my guilty pleasure, I enjoyed this one!

A very sweet, if not predictable book. I am not one for reading contemporary romances, but if they were all this great, I would.
