Scarback: The Wolf is a tale whose main plot is Scarback is an old wolf who cannot keep up with his pack. He chooses to take a nap and finds himself joining a new pack of magical wolves.
The text is slightly heavy but doesn't really provide readers with any details, which is disappointing since of its fluff There are so many questions young readers may have but they never really get answered like why do the magical wolves look familiar or how did they ever get a cat out in the woods?
The illustrations are colorful with the wolves cartoonish and slightly anthropomorphic creatures, which I wasn't a fan of. Furthermore the proportions are off in so many of the illustrations, which contributed to my unhappiness with the illustrative means.
All in all it could be an intro book to the concept of getting old and passing on but I would honestly choose another book on the subject that has more material and bones than this sad read.
If you are a lover of wolves, then you must read this adorable book. The illustrations are so beautiful and look realistic. I love how the flowers and the animals looked realistic like they popped out of the pages. It's a beautiful story of the happy life of Scarback, the wolf. I loved seeing the transition of the sleeping wolf and when he was flying away with wings. He saw himself sleeping but felt more at home with the wolves, who were happy to be free. It is a perfect story of a life fully lived happily.
Scarback the Wolf is surprisingly emotional as the tale plays out and the reader becomes aware of the context of the book. Amazing ending as Scarback finds happiness with a younger pack of wolf friends and goes off with them into the horizon. A beautifully written and touching tale of living life and finding peace.

This is the kind of book that can spark a meaningful conversation about the afterlife. Adults and children alike can related to this story. Colorful, lively cartoon-like illustrations make this very visually interesting.
This book introduces children to life from youth to finding love. Then family until old age when people pass from the world into the next by showing through Scarback's life. He has a peaceful departure.
As I read this short story, tears began filling my eyes. I got this book in a paper format as well because I know my friend thinks she is a kindred soul to wolves. Very touching.
