Together with the book: “The Professional Product Owner” in the same series, they create the foundation and inspiration to become a Product Owner/Product Manager. Go read and use the inspiration to go out in the world to experiment and build your knowledge to build awesome products. Highly recommended
This book is a goldmine for Product Owners and Product Managers who want to seriously upgrade their Product Management skills. The book addresses several misunderstood stances of Product Owners that everyone who has ever worked in an organisation that has adopted Scrum (or tried to do so) will recognise.
Essentially, this book is the written version of the Professional Scrum Product Owner Advanced course as taught through Scrum.org and it's Professional Scrum Trainers. Disclaimer: I'm one of ±400 Professional Scrum Trainers worldwide, I also teach this class, and I have even had the privilege of working with both authors of this book in the past.
Chris and Robbin did a magnificent job in conveying common Product Management problems and what stances can be taken to overcome them. The book covers an immense width and as such it's a wide-ranging and comprehensive overview of what Product Management looks like from the trenches.
That said, those wanting to find easy solutions to common problems might be frustrated because the book stresses over and over again that one needs to experiment and try for oneself. I believe this is truly where the power of the book shines through. As the friendly folks behind Cynefin remind us, there are no best practices in complex environments.
With this book in your hand, you'll find easy to digest yet powerful techniques that will help you to make a positive difference. Read it to pave a way forward. Even better - join a Professional Scrum Product Owner Advanced class taught by someone who has actually experienced Product Management firsthand.
Product Management lies somewhere between craftsmanship, science, and alchemy. Thank you Chris and Robbin for this beautiful overview of preferred stances of Product Ownership and inviting people to experiment, inspect, and adapt for themselves.
