HAWK TATE IS BACK IN HIS NEWEST ADVENTURE!

Six years.

Six long years have passed since the tragedy that took Hawk Tate’s wife and daughter. Ended his career with the DEA. Sent him into self-imposed exile, living and working in the rugged terrains of Yellowstone Park.

Since he heard the voice on the other end of the line.

The last time the two spoke, things didn’t end well. It was made clear that the blame for the fate of Hawk’s family was placed squarely on him, that as far as the caller was concerned he had suffered the same ending. But now, after all this time, something has happened, something strong enough to make them reach out, asking for his help.

Something strong enough to strike to the core of who Hawk is, once more beckoning him out of the shadows…

I originally hail from the midwest, growing up in the heart of farm country, and still consider it, along with West Tennessee, my co-home. Between the two, I have a firm belief that football is the greatest of all past-times, sweet tea is really the only acceptable beverage for any occasion, there is not an event on earth that either gym shorts or boots can't be worn to, and that Dairy Queen is the best restaurant on the planet. Further, southern accents are a highly likeable feature on most everybody, English bulldogs sit atop the critter hierarchy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Saturday night spent catfishing at the lake.

Since leaving the midwest I've been to college in New England, grad school in the Rockies, and lived in over a dozen different cities ranging from DC to Honolulu along the way. Each and every one of these experiences has shaped who I am at this point, a fact I hope is expressed in my writing. I have developed enormous affinity for locales and people of every size and shape, and even if I never figure out a way to properly convey them on paper, I am very much grateful for their presence in my life.

To sum it up, I asked a very good friend recently how they would describe me for something like this. Their response: "Plagued by realism and trained by experiences/education to be a pessimist, you somehow remain above all else an active dreamer." While I can't say those are the exact words I would choose, I can't say they're wrong. I travel, live in different places, try new foods, meet all kinds of different people, and above all else stay curious to a fault.

Here's hoping it continues to provide us all with some pretty good stories...

Gave this one three stars only because I like the adventures of the character, Hawk. Plot itself is nothing special. Hawk trying to find and free the daughter of his estranged sister in law. She was the victim of a car jacking. Add in a crooked cop who is the head of missing persons, and you have the story in a nutshell.

While I enjoy the set-up of this novel and some of it is fun there's a few things that have finally gotten to me to the point I actually felt like I needed to write a review. First some of the plot of this book is a little out there. The idea that two middle-upper class white kids getting shot and kidnapped isn't a bigger deal ignores reality. A charachter being a crooked cop to cover this fact up in the novel is a good thing, but we don't see at all what he does to mititgate the obvious here. Secondly some elements are brought in to try and be a nailbiter but don't really make sense if you think about it, for instance why move the girl on a plane when you can drive there in no time? And lastly Stevens needs to learn literally anything about guns or gunfights. The term is magazine not clip, someone in the Navy or DEA would be made fun of incessantly if they made this mistake. Bond carried a PPK not a PPQ. He's made this mistake in I want to say book 3 as well. They are different guns. Google is your friend. People do not dual wield guns in real life. I enjoy some of the trope busting in these books but saying this isn't a movie and then having the main guy do some dual wielding stuff breaks immersion. Hawk also says he isn't a good shot with his left hand but basically never misses with it either. I don't care if regular people don't know this stuff, because most people don't write charachters that should know these things. This along with a bunch of weird typos, and having the main charachter repeat stuff take away from what could be a really solid novel.

Homefire-Dustin Stevens

I've enjoyed several of your works. The action and suspense keeping me reading farbintonthe night. While Home Fire did the same in that regard, I was disappointed with several spelling and Grammatical errors, which is not in keeping with your usual high standard. May I suggest you have a good English teacher do a final review before printing. There was also a lot of repetition in Hawk's reflective moments - feelings about losing his family, having a team with him as opposed to working alone - much the same way Danielle Steele did in many of her later writings. It greatly detracted from the suspense.

You have to get this book!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book of Dustin Stevens. I have read several of the series in full, so far. ThermAl Tate novels have been right up there with the rest! This one, like all the others, will keep you on the edge of your seat and knock you out of bed or the couch, too! You won't be able to put it down! Then, you have no choice but to read every other book he has written, as I am doing! But first,YOU MUST BUY THIS ONE OR, BETTER YET, THE FIRST BOOK OF EACH SERIES AND THEN THE REST OF ALL OF THEM!!! You certainly won't be sorry, if you like wild adventure and problems that must be solve!

One of the best in the series!!!!

It is absolutely worthy of the series, Mr. Stevens ! I couldn't put it down. I'm so glad he is making his way back to his family. No, it will never change what happened to his wife and daughter, but they are the only family he has left. She never really hated him, she just missed her sister and niece so much. But when her daughter was kidnapped she only thought to call him. And in true Hawk fashion he was on his way. Will he be able to find and rescue Elyse? How many people will he kill to save her? As many as it takes! They plan to sell her to a pedophile! Will he reach her in time? Read the book to find out. Highly recommended.

Really Enjoyed It

What at first seems like four different story lines, gradually come together to make for a fast moving story that will have you turning pages as fast as you can.
As the stores merged into one, I found myself wondering just how Hawk was going to pull this off.
The characters range from street level punks, to a dirty cop, an equally dirty "fixer", and an extremely powerful and dangerous man. And against all that, there's Hawk!
We also learn more about his personal history. He has a sister-in-law that goes from blaming him for the deaths of her sister and niece to calling on him to do what she knows he does best!
The final showdown will have you on the edge of your seat!
I love the character Hawk Tate, and hope to see more of this tortured soul that somehow keeps trying...and succeeding!

I've always enjoyed the Hawk novels and this one doesn't disappoint either.

Three disparate events finally converge to end in a explosive manner. Hawk's niece is kidnapped and he's called to help out though he's not seen them after his wife and daughter's death. He doesn't have any support this time from the DEA and he's on his own. Can he find his niece before she is lost?

The narrative of moving across the different story lines of each person keeps you hooked and the action is as expected from Hawk. A great one and hope to see more.

Inane

An impossibly poor story line that defies reality and exceeds the ability to suspend belief. If a sixteen-year-old blond girl from an upper middle class or lower upper class family merely disappeared after a movie the media and police attention would be intense not just a single missing persons detective yet a car jacking with a 14 year old shot and a 16 year old kidnapped gets just the one detective. It gets worse from that start.

Poor writing doesn’t help nor do the typos.

An exciting story from beginning to end, suspenseful and full of action. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads for pleasure. I was a bit confused by the character named Russo having read a book earlier ,where he helped apprehended and solve

Solve a mystery on the side of law and order. Not sure if this was the same Russo or perhaps this book came later. Seemed odd, but still a good story.

Sad to see him go, but gotta say he left in a big way. Hope to see more of him. Once again, I enjoyed the book, the plot and its resolution. This author always keeps me hooked into the plot, I like his characters....the good ones that is. I will probably start on another one of his series, Zoo Crew, or maybe the single, 21 hours, and I’ll keep looking for new ones. So long Hawke!

Hawk does it again!

The story of an ever evolving non hero hero. This guy brings real flavor to his story. You are compelled to follow him on his quest to right the wrongs brought to everyday people. Once I start reading about Hawk, I don't put it down until the end. Keep Hawk alive!

Good read

Another good book in the series. More development of the Hawk character. Another annoying gun related mistake. James Bond carried a Walther PPK, not a PPQ which didn't come into production until 2011. There are also some annoying typos, but overall an interesting story.

Hawk Tate 4

Amazing, Amazing reading! I would be very hard pressed to say anything about the situation in this story! I live in this world like a lot of other people where I am isolated from the sort of characters portrayed in this story. I pray that neither myself or anyone in my family will ever be subject to the events there of!

For Family!!!

This is an exceptional segway for a family reunion and healing. BUT first — what a string of Occurrences to work through and with a flip phone - no less. Only Hawk!!! 1 step behind and closing in. This was quite the Chase!! Be ready for some significant twist and turns. Now - go read for yourself!!

Action packed, dirty cop, a ton of violence, start to finish

All of this starts with a girl taking her brother to the movies, in order to use the family car to go to a concert. The brother gets shot, the girl and the car get car jacked. The plans call for the girl, 13 blond and a virgin to be trafficked. A ton of violence in this one!
