Can An Ordinary Aristocrat And A Nouveau Riche Tsundere Find Love In An Unconsummated Marriage?!

Iris, the daughter of a marquess, not only had her fiancé stolen by her younger sister, but she also ended up having to marry Lord Lucas, a nouveau riche merchant who was shouldering her family’s debts. However, this former-commoner-turned-baron’s reason for marrying her was just to have Iris teach him and his servants how to survive in high society!

“I was told that I lack presence and that I’m like air. If someone as plain and dull as myself could be of any use to you, I will be more than happy to help, Lord Lucas,” Iris said with complete seriousness, throwing Lucas off guard. Will Lucas be able to resist being slowly drawn to the dedicated Iris, who strives to support him and the people in her life? A complicated romcom that starts with a mariage blanc begins here!

3.5 rounded up. This isn't the most innovative story, but it reads like a very pleasant light novel version of a standard historical romance novel, and I'm here for it.

Very amateurish writing and not at all well thought out. I knew it was going to be annoying when Iris APOLOGIZES to her father for her inadequacies after her stepsister stole her fiancé and both were complete assholes to her. Btw, not sure why she supposedly adores her stepsister when there seems to be zero reason to. Her stepsister is written to be stupid in an over the top unsubtle villain way - she literally said it’s ok that the new chef is drinking on the job because he’s cute 🤦🏻‍♀️

It doesn’t even make sense. It is all over the place, and the author clearly knows nothing about etiquette or the aristocracy. Lucas thinks noble women are incompetent? Where did he get this impression? Why is the second son of a nobleman working as a butler for another noble?? Why would he start questioning the employee about being a mistress to her face, much less in front of the wife? What sense does that make? Iris blathers on and on about proper manners, but is the only one that seems to follow these manners. I am also pretty sure that the inheritance of her family does not happen the way the author portrays. The title is from her mom’s family. In a case where there were no male heirs, it would not pass to her father, her father’s other children, DEFINITELY not to her stepsister’s children…it could only pass to a son of hers because she is the only one with the correct bloodline. Her former future MIL sounded like she helped raise Iris, but was strict and hyper critical. Yet now she’s letting the stepsister do whatever she wants, and it’s obvious she’s covering for her son, who is a total scumbag? So inconsistent.

Toward the end, it’s revealed to her that Lucas was just using her to investigate her former fiancé…but in the beginning he expected that her family would refuse to send a daughter. What?

Light novels are often kinda bad, I’m shocked this one made it to publishing.

There was zero chemistry here, and it was bad enough that I started skimming just to get to the end, where now there’s a cliff hanger.

It was good, I can tell the family is going down the drain so I can’t wait to read that in vol 2. Most of book 1 was to build everything that is going around the female lead but her continuing to
Say how she is “a plain women who has no presence and is like air” was super annoying I mean it happened through out the whole book. I just hope she grows some confidence.

This light novel had a rather unique feel to it. Although the premise were standard Japanese story tropes, the flow and writing style felt more like an English Mills and Boon or a Harlequin Romance novel, especially the first half of the book.

Despite the lighthearted title, it has a sweet and heavy atmosphere. It's like drowning in honey. The romance was a strong A for me and the hints of political intrigue kept it from getting monotonous.

The only part I didn't really warm up to was the butler and the hastiness of their romance. Most of the main characters were nicely fleshed out. Although a little fast-forwarded, I could see what kind of people they were, their emotions and whatnot. The butler's character though was a confusing to me. First he's a butler then a Secretary then another thing. It was hard to get a grasp on him. He reveals himself in the end though so it works out.

I can't believe this book was written by the same author as the Arousing Priestess. All the things I hated about the other book were the parts I loved in this one. I hope the author continues this series this time.

Sweet, uncomplicated read.
This volume dealt with character growth for the MC, a process of self-discovery and opening up her previously-enclosed world. Getting to know the ML, and slowly falling for each other. It's really quite charming.
The MC seemed like she had a soft personality at the start, but thankfully she's one of those soft-but-firm type with perseverance, and given the environment she grew up in I thought her personality was pretty fitting.
There wasn't much romance - the 2 leads were still in the process of getting to know each other, and they only got together at the end of the novel... I'm hoping to see more romance in the next volume.
Also, just be wary if you're planning to read this now - her terrible family and ex-fiance didn't get any retribution in this volume, and it's hinted that it will happen in the next volume. So if that's what you're after, maybe wait until the next volume is released.

Boring

This story feels like a checklist of formulaic requirements shaping an idea. I feel like I've read the same scenario many times and other stories, but the other stories did it better. The characters are flat, and with the shift of their emotions or opinions being so quickly brushed along makes them feel flighty. Most of the story is exhibition, no plot. Some stories can carry the characters through their romance without a plot, but this one was not written well enough to do so. I found myself bored, completely disinterested in the main characters. A lot of it felt forced, again coming back to the idea of a checklist. Sometimes it felt like a chapter was missing with how quickly the characters would change perspective. Sometimes it felt like a missing chapter because conversations felt like they were missing conversations.

This dumb bitch got her fiance stolen by her younger stepsister, yet she was thinking about teaching her how to treat her new mother in law. She keeps calling that homewreker cute and charming and I'm like WTH?? What is this shit? I don't care if this book is about nobility and their nonsense and how females should conduct themselves😡 give your character a backbone for heaven sake. This is frustrating and maddening to read at this day and age. She has zero self respect letting commoners trash talk her, yet she talks about gaining their approval. I can't believe publishers thought that readers should check this book. I bet the FL is going to run like a dog after receiving that letter. What a dissapointment.

A fun read with an enjoyable couple. I always like a story that has a bit of politics/ aristocratic drama and this book has a light dusting of it throughout. Iris was a sweet and smart female character, though I do wish she wouldn’t put herself down quite so much. It became repetitive after awhile. Lucas was a fun and kind male lead and it made me happy that these two figured out their feelings for each other at a good pace, instead of dragging it all out. I’m looking forward to what happens next

This was a perfectly serviceable light novel. Easy, breezy, and a rather sweet read about a couple, formed from an arranged marriage - Iris, who is from a well-established upper class family, and Lucas, as a newly-minted member of the aristocracy.

There were some interesting discussions about their rather significant gulf, and the steps that Iris took to gain the trust of Lucas, his friends, and his employees. What I found quite annoying was her near-constant refrain about her being air, and being inconsequential. It wasn't just in her thoughts, but also often voiced.

It has the same sort of tropes you see in other light novels in this category. The writing isn't amazing but is still an enjoyable read. My only complaints are that I feel like the main character didn't really grow in a substantial way over the course of the LN, and that side characters like her sister and former fiancée dont have super concrete motivations and fall very flat. I would've appreciated another chapter or two from the sisters perspective. Im planning on buying the next installment whenever it comes out

I am really enjoying this author

This author’s book is very cute. I love her characters. I love how they persevere through different struggles, and yet still try their best. I love the richness of the characters that she creates, and I love the plot lines that she develops. This is another wonderful book, and I am dying to read the second novel. Desperately waiting for more.

so good

This is not a recantation or Iseaka novel. This is a wholesome, well thought out plot, characters and realistic situations in a novel setting. Maids lives are not idealized and the potential trauma is skillfully handled. I adore the main characters and the support character in their house. I NEED the next book NOW! Please

Last line of the book before the epilogue spells trouble for the lovely couple…. Obviously, it was gonna happen sooner or later.

Did it need to happen now, though! I mean… come one! She’s so happy! AND LOVED!

Why do I get the feeling that the next volume is gonna make me so mad!? Can’t wait to get started on that dumpster fire of horrible events!

story drags

This story felt like it had a lot of unnecessary tedious events. I would say that the male and female relationship grew but no exciting events happened. I’m hoping book 2 will pick up the pace with some sort of action.

Exceeded my expectations as a romance light novel. Slow burn and a tough MC but softie at heart and a resolute FeMC who has issues but has a lot of dignity. Great read. Will definitely read the next one

such a beautiful story

I loved every second of this book. It was like reading the anime series “My Happy Marriage” from Netflix but BETTER! Real people doing real work in realistic amounts of time to make their marriage work. I can’t wait for volume 2
