Enjoy the Roll for Love series in one complete collection, and follow a group of friends finding their happily ever afters in these sweet and steamy stories packed full of geeky goodness.
This box set features all three original novels, plus four short stories, including the brand new shorts, Choose Your Character and And They Lived Happily Ever After.
Natural Twenty — Gruff florist Leo doesn’t do relationships. But when he meets Jay, the anxious owner of the new book shop, friendship blossoms between them. Jay’s still recovering from a bad breakup and trying to get his business off the ground, but as the pair get closer they must decide whether to take a chance on love.
Charisma Check — Edward doesn’t need a man, and he certainly doesn’t need cosplayer and tattoo artist, Izzy Montes, AKA The Masked Gentleman, Edward’s ultimate nemesis. Having hooked up in secret for years, the antagonistic rivals are forced to confront their feelings when they’re invited to appear together at a film premier in LA.
Proficiency Bonus — Television star Jason Lu is stuck between a rock and a hard place. His show has been cancelled and his character pigeonholed into a homophobic ending. Luckily Lewis, the cute PA he met at Comic Con, has some ideas on how to fix things. And it might just lead to a happily ever after for both of them.

This box set also includes the following four short stories.
Choose Your Character — Jay and Leo receive a surprise gift from Edward.
Roll to Seduce — Edward and Izzy do a sexy cosplay photoshoot.
A Wild Henry Appears — Jason and Lewis enjoy an unplanned weekend visit from family.
And They Lived Happily Ever After — A catch up with everyone as they celebrate Jay and Leo’s wedding.
Each Roll for Love book can be read as a standalone and has a happily-ever-after ending, but you’ll enjoy them more as part of the whole series. This low-angst series promises snark, steam, sweetness, and some adorable nerdy goodness. It is approximately 257,000 words.
Charlie lives in England with her husband and a dachshund named Biscuit. She spends most of her days wrangling other people’s words in her day job and then trying to force her own onto the page in the evening.
She loves cute stories with a healthy dollop of fluff, plenty of delicious sex, and happily ever afters – because the world needs more of them. Charlie also believes that love comes in all shapes and sizes.
Charlie has very little spare time, but what she does have she fills with cooking, pole-dancing, reading and ice-hockey. She also thinks that everyone should have at least one favourite dinosaur…
What is better than a book from your favourite author - a whole box set of them, plus bonus stories.
I read the books previously when they were released and many times since then, especially Proficiency Bonus.
So here is the box set review:
We meet the Lincoln guys, starting with Natural Twenty.
I just love Jay and Leo. Jay is still recovering from a bad break up and puts all his energy into his book store. Leo is the florist, a bit of a loner and more looking like he belongs on a motorcycle than handling flowers. I love how their relationship develops. Both are guys you want to hug and cuddle and never let go. When Jay runs into trouble with his store and trys to break up, Leo is not giving up, letting him know that he waits for him until Jay realises that you can rely on others for help.
The book describes not only the characters but also the setting really realistic. I just want to go to Lincoln and see the shops and play a game at Jay's book store.
Next up is Charisma Check, Edward and Izzy's story. We meet Edward as Jay's best friend in Natural Twenty. A complex and high maintenance cosplayer with the heart in the right place and always there to support Jay. He has his competition in Izzy, a fellow cosplayer and is fixed in his opinion that he hates him and Izzy hates Edward. If they just would stop hooking up at conventions....
A movie premier, unexpected jealousy and currys after game nights lead to a relationship they don't want or even notice that it is developing.
There is a lot more to Edward as he portraits himself. Underneath his flamboyant outfits and style is a man who loves fiercly if you manage to get to know him. The author does a brilliant job creating a character who has so many different layers and as the story develops more and more are uncovered. And Izzy just happens to be there when he moves temporarily to Lincoln and gets dragged into Edward's circle of friends. Izzy is a lot simpler in his personality but not less charming. His reason to start cosplay are very private and it takes time for him to let Edward in but he is also patiently waiting for Edward to catch up on the feelings they have for each other.
Now my favourite, Proficiency Bonus I mean, what's not to love about these two guys. Especially Lewis is just someone you didn't know you want to have in your life (and not just to organise it).
Lewis is Edward's PA, while not present in the other books, his character was mentioned before. After a break up he moves back home to his fairly unconventional but loving family who do their best to get involved in his private life. Jason is the actor of the TV series Jay and Leo bonded over.
Their first meeting is a beautiful "meet cute" during London's comic con. I mean, two adults bonding over Pokemon? You really can see the author's nerdy side in this book even more than during the games nights in Natural Twenty and Charisma Check.
They reconnect over Instagram when Jason shares shoots when filming starts and a friendship develops. When Jason's professional world comes crashing down, Lewis is there to pick him up and both realise the long-distance friendship developed into something more.
I love the way Lewis treats Jason as normal, the guy he learns to love because of his compassion to him, the hours watching and playing Pokemon and not the TV star.
Jason has Lewis to support him unconditionally when he tries to rescue the ending of his TV series. Lewis jumps into PA mode and while I know this is fiction, I do hope that the way this is described will be real in the future.
I especially love the epilogue in this book.
Hats off for the author also to create a character with ADHD, I can see so many similarities to my daughter and her way to live her life. Obviously each person living with ADHD has their own solutions but Lewis' struggles and feelings about it are portrait beautifully and I hope people reading him can either identify with him or take away a bit of compassion and understanding if they have a person with ADHD in their life.
This series has been on my favorite reread list since the second I read Natural Twenty when it first came out. Having it all together to just binge straight through is amazing, and then you add the bonuses and well, I'm a happy gal. I can never get enough of these characters and their extended family/friend group, so the bonus stories just lit me up. I wish there were ten of them!
The witty humor, honest love, and close friendships that Charlie brings to life are so satisfying and well written. This series cemented her as a favorite for me back in the day, and i hope having the box set as a draw does that for others!
I received an advance copy of the collection in exchange for this honest review (even though i already own the individual books!).
I simply adore this series. Charlie Novak is one of my favorite authors anyway but add in a touch of geek and it gets even better. I love all three of these but Leo and Jay from Natural Twenty are my favorite couple, probably because they were the first. Well and the sweet Staffy. We can’t forget Leo’s baby girl Angie. Edward and Izzy’s fine line between love and hate is amazing…..but was it ever really hate to begin with? Lewis and Jason? Swoon worthy. I love all of these stories and it is awesome to have them all in one place along with all of the shorts. These are so worth reading and I can’t recommend them enough. All the stars. No need to roll for initiative.
These stories are all great. The first is two store owners falling for each other, and then they have a sexy extra story. The second full book is two cosplayers that go from enemies to hate sex to lovers and finally to partners, although sarcasm still fuels their love, which makes them a lot of fun. Then we have two characters from the first two books that meet randomly and fall in love and tie the whole group of friends together. I loved their book the best, but I would definitely read the whole collection again!
Why am I reviewing a collection of books and shorts that I have already read and loved...because they are wonderful and now they are all in one spot! Charlie is truly one of the queens of low angst. These stories follow a group of friends through flowers, board games, books, tattoos, cosplay, movies, con's. You want to be a part of this world. These are the stories you want to read on a rainy day wrapped in a blanket or when you need to escape when the real world gets too ridiculous.
This is the series that got me addicted to Charlie Novak. These books will give you characters that you will fall head over heels for. Zero angst and a ton of fun banter and games. I love all of the characters but Edward will steal the show. If he was a real person he would be the one that I want to meet the most. This is one series that you will want to read cover to cover. Plus it does include the short ever afters for this series.
I honestly had no expectations picking up this book - as a nerd I was just excited to read something with as cheesy a title as “Roll for Love”, and within the first two chapters of Jay and Leo’s story I was hooked and already telling friends to read it. The characters are all so loveable, relatable, and the stories are the perfect balance of sweet and saucy. Great book for a rainy afternoon with a cup of tea and some biscuits
I love this series so much it’s full of sweet characters and good diversity of tropes. My favourite of the bunch has to be book 1, I am a sucker for first and a library and a florist… love book 2 for the it the last time we do this… yeah sure it is… book 3 with the whole controversy and suck I really just love it… I love bonus anything really.
It was so wonderful to revisit all these amazing characters, from Leo and Jay to Lewis and Jason, to rediscover the beautifully written stories and to discover new bonus scenes that took me right back into the thick of it all. The emotion, heat and love that radiates through every page is so lovely and endearing. I’ll go back and reread these again and again! Love Charlie Novak!
You can rest asured you will enjoy every single one of these stories. Expect laughs, ahhhhhs, tears and smiles. There are so many feels infused into these stories! So many lovable, genuine characters!
This is such a fantastic series!!! All the characters are loveable and fun to read. You get sweetness and cuddliness along with snarky and sass! Absolutely LOVED all 3 of these books!
I think this box set is great for someone like me that hasn’t read the series before. Everything is in now place and the short stories are placed in between the relevant books meaning I didn’t read anything in the wrong order. I loved the short stories as we get to see what happens next and seeing more of these couples would never be a bad thing. I loved all these couples and the friendships they share with one another. I do feel that my Edward is the glue that is holding them all together. It was so easy to get lost in these awesome friends as I finshed one book and it’s short story I immediately started the next. Charlie’s writing always leaves me feeling happy and warm inside. I would recommend this series to anyone wanting something sweet and fluffy with a splash of geekiness
