These bear shifters have one rule: The first to mate becomes alpha. Let the best man win.
Asher isn’t looking for a mate. He’s fine alone in his mountain cabin, at the edges of his bear clan’s land. His unusual shifter qualities have made him an outcast, and he has no expectations that any female would want his company. So when a wounded wolf shifter lands on his doorstep one snowy night, he can’t help but wonder if fate is playing a cruel joke. Because one look and he knows… She is his to care for. His to protect. His to prove himself to.
Brioni is different than what he’s used to. She doesn’t judge him and even likes his rough voice. But she’s on the run from an abusive past and has enough secrets to pack his one bed cabin. She is all he’s ever craved, but claiming her might end in the biggest fight of his life… a battle against his inner doubts.

Ehhh, insta-love at its finest. Fated mates and dual v! It was okay, but some of the lines were weird and cringe at times. But yeah, it was a quick and safe read.
Ok I wish I knew if this was a good shifter smut or what. The ratings are 4+ but the book itself is...very underwhelming. We have a female wolf shifter who is on the run from her abusive boyfriend who, I am hopefully misunderstanding but is a grasshopper shapeshifter? She calls her pack a pack but she refers to his as a "grasshopper pod" and I'm not very familiar with this genre but if you are getting abused by a grasshopper shifter and you can be a wolf? Girl, wtf!?
Anyways, she escapes and runs into this alpha less bear clan and ends up getting nursed back to health by the male lead. Ok, so I'm like, shifter smut book, predatory animals, these characters are gonna be going at it. BUT NO THEY ARE BOTH VIRGINS AND THE ONE HAS NEVER EVEN BEEN KISSED. My god this was so cringey to read sometimes. I was looking for an alpha male and this dude is soft. But like, sweet soft, but still.
Also I didn't realize the book was barely 200 pages when I started and it kinda seems like this book really doesn't have a plot, it reads like a scene. It's just fast, instalove (which they can blame on their mate connection I guess but being two different species AND she's been in a previous relationship, I dunno, kinda sucks if you only get one mate and she had to cross multiple state lines to get to him, she could've been waiting forever and just happened to get lucky).
Anyways, not sure if I'll give shifter smut another try but unfortunately as my first dabble into the genre I was not impressed. I'm gonna give it 3 stars but really it's 2.5

Asher (part bear part something else, mmc) Brioni (wolf, mfc) Lucas (grasshopper shifter, captor of mfc)
Brioni is on the run from her past, an ex who had kidnapped her. Asher finds her partially shifted, collapsed on his front porch. He takes her in, nursing her back to health. Apparently, Brioni had used a dead female human she found to fake her death and run from her captor. When she finally wakes up, he had just gone to sleep. She attacks him. When he speaks, she recognizes his voice from her nightmares and settles. Their animals recognize each other as mate, but their human sides have been hurt too much to move that direction too fast. His own clan keeps him on the outer fringes because of him being a cross breed. She's scared because the last guy she got close to kidnapped and held her in a basement, starving and abusing her. Can they learn to trust each other? If they mate, it would make him the Alpha of his clan, and most of them don't trust him. There are so many problems without solutions in sight.
This shifter-verse has shifters I've never read about. I've never heard of insect shifters. I didn't know what to expect. I liked how their animals talked to them. I laughed out loud while reading this book. The last chapter is about Hawthorne. It leads into the next book. But there were so many unanswered questions. Did Lucas stay away? Will she ever see her family again?
Decisamente troppo melensa.

Review: So, I came across this series through @theauthor.agency and really loved the description. I haven't read a shapeshifter book since I was a teen lol.
This is the first book in the series and I enjoyed it. Brioni is a shape shifting wolf running from danger. She runs so far and fast she passes out on the door step of Asher. Also a shape shifter, Asher takes her in and nurses her back to health. But Asher feels something different about this female, something that pulls him to her.
In this short but sweet love story, secrets are revealed and some feelings are explored, while also introducing us to a world of shape shifters.
While this story wasn't super in-depth on the world building we are seeing a glimpse of the dynamics or different shape shifters and how they interact together.
Usually I’m not a fan of insta love stories but in this story it works. These two fated mates are very sweet in falling fast and hard for one another. The spice is minimal but sexy.
This was so good! I remember Asher/Brioni from the Apex Mountain series, though I read that so long ago that this felt like its own and I loved that.
Asher deserved everything and more - although we don't really see the outcomes or if the rest of the clan/pack accept him in his new position, it still felt summed up as his own story (and I'm sure we'll see what happens in the rest of the books anyways)
– Dual pov, third-person – Dual virgin! – Shifter-hybrid H/wolf-shifter h – No OW drama/slight OM drama (nothing detailed ) – HEA ending, epilogue is about the next book (but there is a free bonus epilogue about the couple in the future!) – Possible triggers:
Update: I had to downgrade this book to 2 starts after starting book 2 in the series. I thought this series was individual couples with one big overlaying storyline. So when there was zero comeuppance for the villains in the 1st book, I didn't take off stars cause just thought they'd appear in book 2 and we'd see the asshole who traumatized the FMC again. And he'd get some karma from her bear mate. Because what good is a growly protective alpha mate if those who terrorized you in the past don't get revenge?????
What was the fucking plot then????
*************
Virgin romance isn't usually my thing because it doesn't always feel believable. Maybe the fact that this was dual virgin PNR is probably just the perfect combo for me since you already have to suspend belief so 2 virgins in their 20s is the less unrealistic thing happening.
Whatever the reason, this was enjoyable. It was slow burn, both MCs were strong and likeable and a little bit broken. But they both saw the other person's flaws as beautiful so it worked.
Overall: 🌟🌟 .5/5 Spice:🌶/5 Recommend: If you are a shifter fan. Yes, give it a shot. I would love to hear your thoughts Re-read: No Trope: Shifter romance, insta love, girl on the run(wolf shifter)
It was okay. It was an insta love for sure, but I feel that is what you get with shifter books(and I am good with that) it was sweet, not much of a plot book. I thought more was gonna happen with her past life, I was also slightly confused about the grasshopper pod. Unless that was just another name for the wolf pack? I did not fully understand that. I think this story needs more character development and maybe just more plot. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite. This is low spice and a very short read, I am curious to the next story, so I will read book 2 out of complete curiosity.
I have read about unique shifters like bunnies, squirrels, and even hedgehogs, but never grasshoppers! Still can't fathom. My brain to try and understand took me to the movie " A Bug's Life" with the evil grasshopper. ((Beetles with his antenna shaking in their hands)). So many questions, how big are they when shifted? Do they ravage territories? Nothing resolved with that storyline at all by the end of the book.
Then you add in Asher as the mutant deer/bear, or would that be stag/bear?
I really liked the relationship of the characters in the story. Felt their want of connection. Will try book two to see if we get any further information.

Forced proximity, secrets, shifter romance. Faced with rejection his whole life, Asher isn't sure he can trust the mate who has literally turned up on his doorstep and whatever it is she is running from. This book is a follow on from the Apex Mountain series and in this book its like Brioni has a personality transplant. She was a crap friend to Winnie, but amazingly in this book she is a good mate to Asher. Asher is the ultimate cinnamon roll hero in need of love. Fav Quote: “I only know how I do it, pretty wolf. And with you, it’s for eternity.” This was him laying his heart all the way on the line. “I want to lose myself in you, but I want it to be real. I want to know it won’t end in the morning. That you’ll still want this. Want… me. Just as I am.”
I always love an underdog, and this is very much an underdog story. We have the sweet, kind, and misunderstood Asher who not only was pushed out by his original clan but is definitely on the outside of this lost boys clan. Never thinking he could be good enough, faith leads his fated mate to his door. Half dead from running from a dangerous ex, Brionni is nursed to health by her misunderstood angel. These two understand the bond but are so sweet and caring that they take things slow. Ash's inexperienced and lack of confidence is so akward and endearing i love him. A quick read that puts front and center that everyone is deserving of love.
Brion running away from her pack and her past. Escaping was the only solution.
Asher the loner who is always ashamed of what he can do when shifted. Embarrassed believing he is a monster.
These two are perfect for each other. I loved how sweet Asher is. How protective he is. I love how he spoke. Brianna is her name now and she is a protector and peace maker. She knows exactly what Asher needs.
Bear you belong is the first book of the Griz Mountain Shifters, a spin-off from the Apex Mountain Shifters series and it's such a heartwarming story. Brioni is a wolf shifter that is escaping her pack in an attempt to avoid war between her pack and the Pod shifters when she stumbles upon Asher's cabin. Asher is a beast, ostracized by his clan for being different but everything changes when he opens his door to a half shifted woman. This book made me swoon with this love story between two broken people that didn't trust in themselves and found their happily ever after in each other.
When I first started reading this book I got a case of the giggles. Ran into a type of shifter that was new, and never expected! I thought it was silly, but after thinking about it realized that it could be a bad thing to run into. Anyway, I love this bear. I wanted to beat up his clan for being so mean! The woman? Fit right in. Good book! I think yesterday's newsletter has a bonus chapter at the end, so I'm going to check it out! Enjoy! 🐝✋🐺
BEAR YOU BELONG is Brioni’s tale after her escape from Lucas Muller. She’s found her mate in Asher, a not-quite bear shifter and outcast. There’s a lot of appeal in this story with Asher not trusting his worthiness of a mate and Brioni not trusting her taste in males. It’s heartwarming watching as their feelings develop and they grow into each other, making for a very enjoyable and entertaining read. This will certainly leave you looking forward to more stories from Griz Mountain’s shifters.
* I was given this book in exchange for an honest review*
Note this book is less than 200 pages and has insta love
This book is about Asher and Brioni. She is a wolf shifter that had to fake her own death to stop a feud after she was kidnapped and beaten but a grasshopper shape shifter. After she is dead on her feet she lands at Asher's house.
He is part of a bear pack but they don't have an alpha yet since that will happen when one of them becomes mated. They meet each other and it is it for them. They are both virgins and it is sweet.
He isn't just a bear shifter he is something else that he thinks means he doesn't' deserve his mate.
This book was very fast, short and had a great baseline for this series.

The little bits of humour saved this from being a DNF for me, I'm over the whole fated mates trope generally. I was mightily confused by the shifter who held Brioni captive being described as being from the grasshopper pod, it made it seem like he shifted into a grasshopper, 🦗, which, surely not? It was weird. There were too many unanswered questions the storyline of her captivity was very vague. There wasn't an awful lot of plot, I don't think I will bother with the follow up stories
It had all the aspects of a great book: interesting plot lines, characters with amazing depth and a good romance line.
However: The plot lines were just mentioned and totally unexplored. The characters indeed had depth, but most was lost on infinite, in-a-loop repetitive, inner thoughts. Wayyyyy too much. The romance was good, but felt rushed towards the end and we didn't even have a bit of closure.
Loved this! I definitely recommend reading the Apex Shifters series first, as that’s where we first learn about her pack and the grasshopper pod, and see parts of her story. This is telling her side of the story and what was happening when, back at her pack, they were thinking she was dead.
Asher was so sweet and the perfect man for her after all she had been through! (Apex shifters tells more about this and her ex Lucas!) I’m looking forward to the next book!
The story of Asher and Brioni was interesting. Brioni was running from her past to save her family. She accidentally (or fate) find Asher who cares for her. They are fated mates and it takes a while for them to show their feeling to each other. Asher's animal is not a direct animal and is made fun of because of this. Asher's little pack is waiting for the first one to mate to become alpha and get them in order. It was a really good book. I look forward to continuing the story.
Asher. Good lord, this sweet, gruff, shifter is perfect.
Relegated to the periphery by his clan because of his mixed shifter identity, Asher lives alone when fate sends him an injured and scared mate on his doorstep. Watching Asher and Brioni (Biranna) navigate their trust issues and budding hope was ridiculously sweet. Don't worry though, there's a few drops of 'Touch her and die' to balance the sweetness of this shifter romance!
What a fantastic story. I loved that it started with the ending of the Apex series, which should be read first, but not necessary, this book will stand on its own. Two broken souls, find what they’ve been needing, true kindness. Two broken souls healing each other with love! Loved the ending, and looking forward to the rest of this series!!
Interesting! What an amazing and unique novel! Brioni, on the run and a lonesome male finding her on his doorstep! As Brioni and Asher get to know each other, a bond so real and tight forms that all of the others in the clan with Asher immediately know. Now what happens with his clanmates?
Brioni is trying to escape from her past and passes out on a cabins porch. When Arch hears the thump he opens his door to a female with the bottom half as a wolf.. He puts her in his bed to recuperate. When she awakens and sees the man that saved her she's falling for him. He is hiding what he is from her. When she finds out what he is will she run? Great read
Awe, I love this sweet book of acceptance! Asher is different but it didn’t matter to Brianna because he saved her and they were mates! She also opened his eyes to the fact that just because he was different didn’t mean that he didn’t deserve love, respect and trust! They will be perfect alpha family for their special pack!!
2.8/5? It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t…..it was weird LOL Brianna is a wolf shapeshifter who leaves her family because she’s abused by her ex boyfriend who is a grasshopper shifter, yes, I said that right!! She runs for her life and ends up on the door of Asher, a mutated bear/reindeer shapeshifter whose shunned by by his best clan for being different and they fall in love. Aw. WEIRD but cute weird?
P. Jamesons books are so good. This one did not disappoint. I love Brioni and Asher together. It was a sweet story and I can’t wait for the rest of the clans schenanigans. ❤️
