Another solid story in this continuity series. This is a quick and easy read-I enjoyed the second chance romance and the mysteries were good.

Threat Detection drew me straight in from the start with nonstop action. Aubrey, a volcanist, is working at Mount Helen when she gets shot at. She escapes and one of the police offers who arrived os none other but jet ex fiancé Isaac Dade. As the attacks mount against Aubrey, Isaac has to protect her. Adding to the attacks is that Aubrey's older sister Emily may be involved in something she shouldn't have seen.
Aubrey and her sister were in foster care after the death of both parents. She met Isaac when she was 18 but decided to break up with him because she was afraid she wouldn't be good enough for him.
This was an enjoyable read of this series. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Threat Detection is the fifth book in the Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series. This one is Isaac and Aubrey's story. They were engaged years before, but she broke his heart. Now, years later, he is assigned to protect her when it looks like her life is in danger. It can be read as a stand alone with only mentions of previous cases and an overall series mystery arch.

The book was a nice addition to the series. I liked the couple and that they had prior history together. In a way, Aubrey did themselves a favor by walking away at such a young age. It allowed both of them to grow and mature. Now that they are older, their relationship had a better chance of survival. The mystery as usual was really good. If you are looking for some sweet romantic suspense stories, I highly recommend these Love Inspired books.

Volcanologist Aubrey Smith is doing research on Mount St. Helens when someone takes a shot at her. For some reason, someone wants to prevent the research from continuing.

Why is a stranger shooting at volcanologist Aubrey Smith, than claiming she has something that belongs to him? What is her sister's picture doing on a collection of five people's photos, and who is killing those five off? Will Aubrey working near Mount St. Helen's be less explosive than having her ex-fiance and K-9 officer Isaac McDane attempt to trying to protect her? (At least his beagle partner is adorable, as you can tell from the cover.)

This is the sixth of eight full novels (plus a pair of novellas) of the Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series on Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense imprint. As usual, each installment is written by a different author. Also, you don't need to read them in order to enjoy them (I read this book before I read book 2) - they're written so it's easy to catch us with the important parts of the previous books, nor do the newer books spoil the older ones.

This is the sixth Sharon Dunn novel I've read (all Love Inspired Suspense, and five of them part of K-9 series), and this is definitely my favorite by her. I've enjoyed seeing Isaac and Aubrey work through their past, present, and future (I mean, any suspense on whether they'll fall back in love with each other by the end?). The plot has as many twists as the trail going up the legendary volcano, Also, most of Dunn's books I've read so far let you know who the bad guy is about halfway through; this one has a good, riveting mystery.

This has been my favorite series, and this book is part of the reason why. I recommend both this novel and the rest of the set.

This is the fifth instalment of the Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series and things are really amping up with both the over-arcing suspense plot and a few intriguing subplots which have me all in a dither and anxious to get a hold of the next book asap. Luckily, since they release monthly I only have a few weeks to wait.

This is a multi-authored continuity series but each book reads fine as a standalone too. Each author does a great job of sharing pertinent details which are great refreshers for the stalwart series fans and perfect catch-ups for the newbie reader. And, of course, each book has its own romantic suspense plot that comes to a satisfactory conclusion.

In Isaac and Aubrey’s case, that means Reunion Romance, one of my all time favourite tropes. These two have History with a capital H and Dunn does a fantastic job of feeding us tidbits in measured doses which kept me on edge until I had the whole picture. Cue angst and yearning and buried feelings coming back to life. Excellent romance!

And the suspense is just as intense! Love the way the tension builds, between escalating attacks and trying to puzzle out the clues before the killer actually succeeds. I was riveted from start to finish.

And — hooray — this is another Love Inspired Suspense that is available in audio format and you can bet I had it downloaded and ‘read’ by the end of release day!

Exciting continuation of another great K-9 Unit series!

Aubrey is working on Mount St. Helens when someone shoots and chases her. Isaac is the nearest K-9 Unit officer and joins with park police. Then he finds out that the victim is his ex-fiancee Aubrey. While they are investigating, the shooter strikes again. Then it is an all-out race against time to figure out what is going on. Can Isaac keep his mind on the mystery and not on the hurt he still feels? Can he keep her safe while they try to solve this mystery?

The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The Christian ideals are there but not a major aspect of the story. You need to read this series in order if you want to truly get the most out of it. This is an action packed adventure with great canine officers, and the heroes aren't bad, too! 😉 There is an overarching mystery that will not be concluded until the end of this series. Enjoy trying to figure it all out!

The whole premise didn’t work for me. Someone’s after our MC and they think it’s for her flash drive? Why not give the flash drive to the police right away, make a big deal about it publicly, and let the perp know the info is out of her hands? The entire premise hinges on keeping the MC safe. Then the police repeatedly fail to stop the bad guy, who somehow K-9 officers can’t see sneaking up behind them (er, what’s the dog’s nose for?) and so on.

Also a question about Aubrey’s past was abruptly brought up and then just dropped like it never happened.

I wanted to get Isaac’s story but this book barely went into who he was at all since the whole thing was focused on Aubrey’s drama.

Oh well. Triple fail—choppy writing, unbelievable plot, and a “romance” without much chemistry or bonding.

Aubrey can’t believe someone is shooting at her. Only thing she has is volcanic rock!

Aubrey is studying volcanic rock at the top of St Helens. Someone has started shooting at her and had called to her that “you have it and I need it back” as he continued firing at where he thinks she is. She knows this mountain better than most and is using that to try and slip away. As soon as she reached cell service she called for help and continued down to meet up with the nationals parks K-9 unit they told her they would send. As the officers got out of their car her breath escaped, it was Isaac. The only man she had ever loved.

THREAT DETECTION is book five in the nine-book Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series with various authors set in Mount Ranier National Park with park rangers and their K-9 officer companions. This is a Christian romantic suspense. This was a fun book in the series because Aubrey, the heroine, is a volcanologist, which isn’t a career you read every day in a romance book, and also made it fun from a park ranger perspective. She and Isaac knew each other before and when they reconnect, sparks fly. But someone is after Aubrey, and her sister is somehow involved. I enjoyed this one and liked the K-9 story too! 4/5 stars.

Sharon Dunn writes a story of action and suspense!
This is book 5 of the Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit continuity series.
Aubrey Smith is a volcanologist at Mount St. Helens. While on the volcano collecting samples, someone start’s shooting at Aubrey. She has to run for her life. Her former boyfriend, K-9 officer Isaac McDane, and his partner, Freddy, work to keep Aubrey safe. They discover Aubrey’s sister, Emily, is on an apparent “hit list,” and all roads seems to lead back to the foundation, the place Aubrey and Emily work.

A great series

This was another complex story with many unexpected twists that will keep you guessing until the end. I'm not the type that believes in insta-love or immediate marriage proposals, which all of these stories seem to have. I understand that this particular couple has history, but it was over 10 years ago while they were still teenagers. Other than these issues, I really enjoy reading about the K-9's and the intriguing cases that they are involved in.
I would recommend this book, series, and authors.

This was such a good book. I had trouble putting it down. Characters are strong but sensitive and very believable. Aubrey's job as a volcanologist was unique and very interesting. Freddy, Isaac's K-9 companion, was adorable. The plot moved at a fast pace, and I was constantly trying to put clues together. Nevertheless, I was surprised at the resolution. Great combination of faith, romance, and suspense!

Volcanologist Aubrey Smith is on Mount St. Helens collecting samples when someone shoots at her! Why? She has no idea. She is able to escape and call for help. The K-9 officer who comes to her assistance turns out to be her ex-fiance from 10 years ago, Isaac McDane. Will Isaac be able to keep her safe? Will they figure out what is going on and who is trying to kill her and why?

A great read!

The at Detection

Volcano scientist Aubrey Smith is shot at and chased off the mountain. Along with park police a K9 officer responds to the 911. She had been engaged to Isaac 10 years before but had broken off the engagement via text. They work through their issues while solving the case. Great story.

I skimmed through this to see how awful this was—it was so stupid. I’ve seen people at the library where I work read these: would not recommend. Too many mentions of God and not enough tension. I understand why people like these books though (and there’s a beagle on the cover).

full of action and suspense

This is the fifth book in this series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. There is an ongoing thread through the series, but the mystery that occurs in this book is also resolved. There is a romance thread too of course!

This was a great book. I do like that there wasn’t too much emphasis on the past like the previous book. I liked how everything went at a nice even pace. It wasn’t a rushed ending like these shorter books can sometimes be.

Great book

These books are wonderful. Amazing that different writers are able to follow the stories the others wrote. Nothing like a book with a working dog or two, plus a lot of action! All of these authors are incredible.
