Follow Quintus and his cohort in another thrilling historical adventure! For fans of Ben Kane, Conn Iggulden, Bernard Cornwell and Simon Scarrow.
Ancient Rome meets Ancient Britannia…
Julius Quintus Quirinius and his cohort sail to the mysterious land of Britannia. They have been sent on a mission to scout out the savage country and battle the local tribesman to pave the way for their emperor.
But before they can land, a violent storm scatters their ships, separating Quintus, newly promoted to Decanus, from some of his comrades. In seeking them, he encounters Britons who may be friend or foe.
Betrayal is in the air when he discovers the missing legionaries have been captured by a local tribe. And the tribesmen are not willing to release the Romans alive.
Quintus is prepared to rescue his men or die in the attempt. His oath demands it. But can the legionary training of the Roman soldiers defeat the fierce foreign tribesmen?
Or will Quintus’ first foreign mission be his last?
DECANUS is the second book in the Quintus Roman Thrillers action-packed, authentic historical military adventures set in Ancient Rome.
THE QUINTUS ROMAN THRILLERS BOOK Legionary BOOK Decanus
I enjoyed this read, the Roman invasion of Britain is one of my favorite epochs of Rome and this book took me by surprise in interesting and charming ways!
As was the first book, this is a detailed look at the philosophy and structures of the Legionaries. At the end of the last book they were sailing over to Britannia and this edition follows their adventures.
It continues to be a well-written action series, but short - leaving the reader with a host of unanswered questions and no conclusion to even this episode. If you're willing to sign on for the whole series, it is perhaps a worthwhile entertainment. For this reader - nope. I resent the conscious effort to not write a story with the classic beginning, and conclusion.
Excellent book two in the Quintus Roman series. By now, readers are veteran legionaires of the Roman Army in the first century BCE. The customs and values of soldiering in the early days of the first Roman Emperor, Augustus Caesar, have now become our natural environment. And the legionaires have become our comrades in arms. It's like having a time machine, way better than video games. We smell the scents, taste the bad food, and suffer the back-breaking labor and long marches of everyday Roman soldiers.
This book was different from what I expected, but in a good way. Instead of full legions fighting Rome’s enemies, this story followed a small group of legionaries that survived a ship wreck in enemy territory. How they survived is the crux of the story and one heck of a story it is.
So pleased I carried on with book two. I now feel I know all the main characters and have struggled with them through all the trials they find themselves in!
