Jeri Smith-Ready has been writing fiction since the night she had her first double espresso. A steady stream of caffeine has produced twelve published novels for teens and adults since 2001.
Jeri lives in Maryland with her husband and two cats, who often play tag-team "sit in the author's lap and keep her from writing." (The cats, that is, not the husband. Though, actually...)
Crossroads: A short story in the WVMP series by Jeri Smith-Ready. This is the story of the life, death, and change of Monroe Jefferson.
Monroe Jefferson was at a crossroads in his life at the age of 27 in the deep south in July 1940. He was a field worker who needed money so that he could marry his sweetheart. A musician told to meet the Devil at the crossroads....
I enjoyed this installment the best of the four currently offered. The voice in which Monroe was written felt REAL. Shane and Spencer's voices were so similar they could have been interchanged and the banter and actions were unrealistic. Jim's story was more believable on how a hippie would act at a music festival while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Monroe's story was realistic even for Urban Fantasy. Jeri Smith-Ready created a character who's diction was perfect, the thoughts, actions, and behaviors consistent. This is a sign of a very talented author, the ability to write such vast characters.
