She's on trial for murder… Now it’s her turn to tell her story…

The truth is that I loved James with my whole heart. We were soulmates: meant to be together forever. On the morning of our wedding, I had just found out I was carrying his child.

But it’s time to tell my side of the story. It’s time everyone knew what happened on that wedding day, on our honeymoon, and on that fateful last drive together. It’s time everyone found out about the secrets and about the threat that loomed over our marriage. It’s time everyone found out who really killed James.

And I need everyone to believe me. To believe I’m not a killer. Because if they don’t, then my baby won’t just have no father… she’ll have no mother.

A totally gripping psychological thriller full of jaw-dropping twists, that will keep you reading late into the night. If you loved Gone Girl, The Mother-in-Law and The Housemaid, you’ll be hooked on The Bride

The hairs on the back of my neck are still up!
This has a dark side, a creepy undertone that makes your skin quiver like spiders running all over you as you get deeper and deeper into the web this author weaves for its readers.

I was well and truly hooked by the blurb, that’s only have of its attraction my friends, once you open those pages you will be lost in this plot.

James is dead.
Now she’s left with grief and an unborn child.
She loved James so much.

Who killed him.
Why.

We know how he was killed.

It was an intense read and I figured out one thing, one person but oh no the reason or connection (if there really was one or not).

My attention was on the loss. Her James.

And the twist had my mouth dropping and rereading twice, yes twice those final few lines.

John Nicholl is a prolific writer and gets me hooked every time.

3.5⭐
Genre ~ psychological thriller
Publication date ~ June 28, 2023
Page Count ~ 282
Audio length ~ 8 hours 51 minutes
Narrator ~ Bethan Rose Young
POV ~ single 1st
Featuring ~ pregnancy, assault

Daisy unreliably narrates the story as if she is speaking directly to her unborn baby with her side of what went down with their relationship and James's disappearance. I think this kind of writing style is odd because how are you supposed to remember exactly what you said and did years ago?

James is not depicted as a likable fella, so I wasn't too upset when he goes missing. I did not care for the lodger she takes on as a way to make ends meet. I figured out who they were way back at the funeral, but I can see how that red herring could go unnoticed.

Overall, I wasn't blown away, but I liked it well enough. A bit slow in parts, but there was a nice last little zing at the end.

Side note ~ I had just read The Cellar not too long ago and I liked that this book also included the same detectives here. Maybe all of his books do if they take place in the same town.

This book has a lot of good reviews, but I didn't like it. It is going extremely slow and only in the end there is some twist and a few unexpected events.

Daisy is a girl who had only one boyfriend and he became the love of her life. She gets married and after a honeymoon, he is killed. How well did she know him and his family?

Daisy's character is enough weak and she makes one mistake after another. I don't like weak female characters. Maybe this was the real reason for my dislike of the book. She is led in the direction that other people want.

I finished this book only because I wanted to write a review of it. Many times I wanted to abandon it, but I persisted till the end. I cannot give it more than 2 stars.

The Bride is a gripping psychological whodunnit thriller by international bestseller author, John Nicholl. This novel will chill you to the bone. After having read all his novels, which include The Dr. David Galbraith series, The DI Gravel series and his standalone psychological thrillers…this novel is another winner! The author has written books, each dealing with different issues, drawing on his experience as police officer and child protection social worker.

His standalone Novels Include:
The Cop (2019)
aka The Girl in Red
The Student (2019)
aka The Girl in White
Mr Nice (2020)
The Sisters (2020)
aka The Sisterhood
The Victim (2021)
aka Killing Evil
The Cellar (2022)
The Bride (2023)

This is my review of The Bride.

This novel is about a twenty-three- year- old expectant mother, Daisy Earl, and already a widow, who had been arrested and charged with alleged murder. She was a victim, and was looking to find out the truth, and clear her name for her unborn child. By writing her story from her prison cell, hoping for it to be accepted. Her life was spiraling of out control.

Now with each chapter the reader gets to hear her story…

Daisy and James had been soulmates and were very much in love. They rented a flat while they both attended different universities, James was studying history and Daisy was studying nursing. They were soon engaged. On the morning of their wedding, Daisy had just found out she was carrying his child.

Daisy’s husband, James, was killed shortly after they returned from her honeymoon. Has she been accused of his murder, or is there something else going on? We don't find out till later, as Daisy tells her story in flashbacks, both before and after James' murder.

But who really killed James?

Daisy needs everyone to believe her story that she is not a killer…for the sake of her unborn child.

This was a totally gripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping ending, that will keep you reading late into the night. A great read as usual!

Many thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for my digital copy.

Daisy and James are so in Love and decide to get married. On the day of her wedding, she found out that she is pregnant with James’ child. She waits for the right time to tell him that she is pregnant. But on the honeymoon, she doesn’t get around to it. There are having such a good time and she is not sure yet how James feels about kids.
When they arrive back from the honeymoon, they stop at a service station to get snacks. James has got a headache, so he decides to stay and search for tablets and they both agree to meet in the café. But James’ doesn’t turn up and has gone missing. When the Police search for him. They find his body on the beach.
In the start of the story, Daisy is in prison on trail for murder. But for Oliver who she met at James’ funeral. A friend of James, who wasn’t allowed to go the wedding. Daisy starts meeting up with Oliver and soon after moves in. The rest of the story is about what happens that leads up to that day.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood books for a copy of ‘The bride’ by John Nicholl. This is the first book from the author, and it will not be my last. This is a great, gripping, tense thriller that had we hooked throughout. I can’t wait to explore the other books he has written. 4 stars from me.

I am glad I said "I Do!" to "The Bride".

It's a riveting and twisty tale of a new bride on trial for murdering her husband.

TRUE CONFESSION:
I had cold feet about saying "I Do!" to this title.

WHY?

Author John Nicholl is a former police officer and prolific author who pens very, very dark psychological suspense thrillers with TMI gruesome details about child abuse.

Fortunately, "The Bride" was much "tamer" than his earlier books and, therefore, I was able to finish the book in its entirety.

I listened to the audiobook read by Bethan Rose Young who did an outstanding job with the narration.

4.5 stars.

Absolutely brilliant.
This book is immensely readable, it is gripping and the book never slows down at all. There is a lot of suspense, although I felt the ending a little anticlimactic.
The characters were likeable on the whole, and when they weren't, they added plenty of tension instead!

John Nicholl is always able to develop a wonderful psychological thriller, something that I have come to see over the years I have been reading his work. Nicholl uses a Welsh backdrop to provide the reader with a great setting, as he pushes things to the limit, depending on the subject matter. In this piece, young Daisy has found the love of her life and is eager to spend her life with him. However, when James goes missing on their way home from the honeymoon, the local police become suspicious, as nothing seems to make sense., While Daisy remains hopeful, she must also move on with her life, which proves just as confusing for her and the authorities. John Nicholl does well with this piece, which reads very quickly.

Daisy was also excited when she met James during her college years. They dated and soon feel deeply in love, planning for a life together. While their families were somewhat leery, it soon disappeared, allowing Daisy and James to plan for the amazing future they have for one another. While one of Daisy’s college friends, Oliver, randomly appears at the ceremony, neither she not James think anything of it.

After a sensational honeymoon, their love deepens when Daisy admits that she is carrying their chid. Still, life awaits them back in Wales and they will have to prepare for this. On the way home, there agree toi stop at a layby, where Daisy is tasked with getting food and waiting for James. When James does not join her inside, Daisy begins to worry. It is only when she goes to find him and sees that the car is abandoned that things get troublesome. The Walsh authorities begin their investigation, unsure if Daisys narrative is to be believed.

Forced to wait back at home, Daisy tries to prepare for her child’s arrival. Oliver appears, as if out of nowhere, to console her and help. They soon connect on many levels, living together and sharing a romantic interlude. However, the case of James’ disappearance gets more troubling and some theories point to Daisy wanting to see him eliminated for secrets he has been keeping. As the story climaxes, Daisy makes a revelation that changes it all. Nicholl offers up a great story and kept me flipping pages well into the night.

This was another good novel by John Nicholl. He has a way to really get to the core of a psychological thriller, pushing theories as the protagonist struggles to handle it all. However, this piece was more mystery than psych thriller, with a strong narrative to keep the reader curious. Nicholl develops the story with ease and provides the reader with great direction. Told through the eyes of Daisy, the story never strays from her thoughts, which may cloud the larger story’s ability to assessed the potential crime. Strong characters help keep the reader intrigued and shows just how important Daisy can be the the larger story. Plot lines develop, though they are not as surprising as some might want. Perhaps I have even reading too many John Nicholl novels , but I was also not unimpressed with the final product. I am eager to see what else he has in store for fans, as there never a end to his ideas.

Kudos, Mr. Nicholl, for another great thriller.

This novel has the perfect blend of mystery and suspense. Told from Daisy's point of view and it's written in the first person. All the way through the book you'll keep guessing, and hyou might even think you have it worked out. There's lots of twists and the pace is on the steady side. The first half of the book is the backstory to James and Daisy's relationship and the events that took place up until James's disappearance. In the second half, secrets were revealed, and we find out what really happened. Another fabulous read by the author.

I was looking forward to this book as it had such good reviews but I was a bit disappointed to say the least. I enjoyed the first 30% and found myself intrigued but then I must admit to doing a fair bit of skim reading as I found it quite boring in parts. I didn’t think there was much of a twist really and I thought the ending was just irritating. Nothing was really confirmed and I found myself feeling like I had wasted a couple of days. I’m someone that likes to know how rather than just why.

A slow paced story being told by a mother to her unborn child.
It starts with growing up in Wales where two teens fall in love and get married right after graduating from college.
.
The book doesn’t pick up much until about 60% in but at that point it does get much more interesting. It’s quite a twisted and unpredictable ending, just how you love a good psychological thriller to end, keeping you thinking well afterwards bravo!

I have read all of John Nicholl’s previous books and have rated them all very highly. So when I read the blurb for The Bride I couldn’t wait to read it. Yet again this one didn’t let me down. A completely unputdownable psychological suspense thriller that reeled me in right from the very start. There were a couple of great twists throughout the book, one I guessed quite early on but the others left me speechless. I did gasp out loud at the ending which I thought was brilliant.

I was so excited when this book landed in my inbox and went straight to the top of my reading pile. A new book from one of my favourite author's. I am doing the happy dance. This is a real psychological thriller with a dark side. Creepy, chilling with undertones of something darker. At times I had goosebumps on my goosebumps. I found this book impossible to put down and finally turned the last page at 1am. Yes this book is that good!!! Well written, brutal and full of tension and suspense. This author has done it again!!!! Go to bed early and read this book I promise that you will not be disappointed. Another MUST READ!!!!!

At a push 2.5 ⭐️

Extremely slow with weak characters. You can guess the plot line before it even happens. The ending is what gave it an extra half a star but even then it doesn’t really explain anything. Use your imagination to officially finish the book… eh?

I was not impressed at all, which is a shame as all the reviews were great.

The Bride - John Nicholl.

I will admit that I often stick far too rigidly to my safe reading genre of feel good, romance, anything cosy and nice.
However, every now and again a book comes along, that isn’t my usual read, but really captures my imagination and curiosity.
#TheBride is one of those books.
The blurb lured me and as soon as I started reading, I was hooked.

Daisy loved James. They had their perfect wedding, honeymoon and even a baby on the way. So why is Daisy now on trial for James’ murder? And did she do it?

I have been completely engrossed in this book. It is so very well written by John Nicholl. Once you’re in, you’re in to the end.
This is a psychological thriller that has q dark side. It will leave you with shivers down your spine and chills in your heart.
Some of the twists in this book left my jaw on the floor. And the ending blew me away.
Outstanding!

The Bride follows Daisy, who’s on trial for murder. Daisy has lived a wonderful life with a beautiful family and a loving husband. But when the police arrested her on suspicion of murder, she must now prove her innocence, if not for herself, for her baby at least…

𝑴𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔
I enjoyed this immensely.. it started with such an intense and mysterious vibe. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, the story beautifully flowed keeping the creepiness and mystery intact.

The way Daisy is on trial for murder was put out there for us at the start and not disclosed till the end was amazing. I was soo intrigued to know 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸, why was she arrested, and who was murdered.

I mean, it was soo mysterious till the end and I loove it. But during the mid, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 and I was very bored with the ramblings of Daisy🥱As the end approached, things picked up the pace and it was veryy eventful.. things kept happening and I was again captivated by it all 👀

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴…𝗢𝗠𝗚!! I thought I had predicted the ending and was disappointed for a minute.. but when that twist happened at the last minute, I was amazed👏🏼 I feel like everything was worth it just to get to know what happened in the end.. to know how the mystery was solved, all my questions were answered. I enjoyed this book a lot!

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏
Overall, an incredible mystery/suspense with short captivating chapters. Despite the dragged plot around the mid, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘁 and gives you a tremendous ending full of twists and turns that you won't be able to predict!!

My rating may change as I’m not even sure it deserves 2 stars.

For a short book, it was so slow! It dragged so much and there were literally no twists until the last 10 pages, and even then the twist was kinda predictable and bland.

I didn’t really like Daisys character anyway as she made so many stupid decisions and I just felt really frustrated by her. Also, hated how throughout the book it just kept saying but that would become more clear later on, or but i didn’t notice the red flags yet.

Felt like a lot of it was pointless storytelling too which is a major L

I've given only one one-star rating in all the years I've been on Goodreads, and that was for a book that was racist. But I was very tempted to give one star here too.

The story is unbearably slow, and when I say slow, I mean that even a 300-page version of Little Red Riding Hood would have contained more movement. There is suspense on three pages, 95 percent through the book. That's it!

Secondly, the first-person narrater is incredibly gullible, stupid, and needy throughout the story, which is very annoying. And then, suddenly, on the last page, she basically tells us, "fooled you, fooled you, I'm not actually like that, and I hid my knowledge of all events in the book from you up to now." I know other readers don't mind that, since they loved "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides, which does the same thing, but that type of literary mechanism is just a cheat.

It's difficult to believe that this was written by the same author who wrote "The Cellar" and "The Doctor".

Very slow and boring

The only two impactful events that happen in this book are at the very start and the very end (and I do mean literally the last sentences). There's nothing at all of any substance here, I regret wasting time with this one.

This was a frustrating read that I should've DNF'd, so I won't waste time on a lengthy review. BUT I am going to nit-pick the title - it's not about a bride at all, it's about a wife. The wedding isn't a central event and is over within a couple of pages... which has nothing to do with anything, but does give you a bit of a clue how much attention was put into this. You can tell it's a case of "men writing women" to such an extent I wish I had a bingo card handy. Just bad, save yourself time and skip this one.

I very rarely write reviews, but I was so disappointed by the misleading number of 5 star reviews that I had to include one. 3 stars is my standard "Eh" rating and this barely gets that. Storyline was predictable and so was the shocking double twist, but that's not why I almost DNF. SUCH a sloooow pace and every third sentence was foreshadowing. I don't want to destroy this book; it was OK, but don't expect to have your mind blown as other reviews may lead you to believe.

Here comes the bride
all dressed in white
now she's back from honeymoon
the groom nowhere in sight...

I only discovered John Nicholl last year with the Doctor series (it still gives me the chills just thinking about them) and he fast became a favourite author. He brings a unique style to his storytelling that is gritty and sometimes confronting but always filled with tension. I have yet to read his crime fiction series having only delved into his standalone psychological thrillers...each of them bringing a level of intensity that is unique to his signature style.

THE BRIDE is a tale in which tells the story of Daisy and her husband James, their love story from the beginning right up to the end. It unfolds through Daisy's eyes retold chapter and verse as if she is writing the book, which I guess in a sense she is. Each chapter is dripping with tension and shrouded in the mystery of what happened to James.

Daisy and James' love story began when she was just fifteen and he sixteen, moving from London to Carmarthen in Wales. It went without saying that the longer they stayed together they would remain together and as the natural course follows, as does a wedding. After completing their respective university degrees, they married on 2nd January in an old village church and then the following morning set off to the Canary Islands for a weeks honeymoon. On the morning of their wedding she discovers she is pregnant. She is beyond excited and can't wait to tell James but she wants to wait for the right moment. She tells him on their honeymoon and while she doesn't get the reaction she expected, she is sure he is happy about it once the news settles in.

But all too soon their week in the sun and honeymoon comes to an end and so they arrive back in Cardiff later that evening. On the drive back home, Daisy has to stop at a service centre for the call of a nature (goes with being pregnant) and James asks her to get him a coffee. She orders a pot of tea for herself and a coffee for him, grabs a table and waits. And waits. And waits some more. After a quarter of an hour or so, she calls his mobile which just rings out. Abandoning their hot drinks, she heads back to the car which she finds locked up (as expected) and no sign of James. She calls him again...and this time she hears the unmistakable ringtone coming from below the car. Crouching down she finds his phone under the car, its screen smashed. And still no sign of James.

So what does she do? Any normal person would call the police. But Daisy calls her father. I'm not sure what she expected him to do but he makes the drive to where she is and they search together. After two hours, they finally decide to call the police. The investigation seems to go nowhere for several weeks until one day a knock on the door brings the news she had been dreading. James' body has been found.

Now Daisy is sitting in a police cell awaiting trial for murder. But what happened to lead up to this moment? Has she been accused of her husband's murder? Or is there something else going on? And if she didn't kill James, then who did?

From her prison cell, Daisy writes this step by step account of hers and James', their wedding, their honeymoon, his disappearance and his subsequent death and everything that followed. She feels that her story must be told in her words while she still has the chance to tell it. For everyone to believe that she isn't a killer. For the sake of her unborn child.

THE BRIDE begins with a slow pace that picks up more as it goes, particular in the second half. I read this book in one sitting despite its slow start. And you may think you know the direction it is taking but true to Nicholls' form, in his unique style he is still able to throw in that twist at the very end that will leave you scratching your head and going "what just happened?"

The truth will out...

How did this get published? its like a stream of consciousness, the hyberbolic language is boring. At first it seems like a tactic to get you to understand the character is lying. But it never ends. How this went through an editor i don't understand. Every point being made takes 3-8 paragraphs. Four sentences to describe opening a door.
The premise of this novel is so interesting and could've been such a good book.

Slow

It seemed to drag on and on; I kept waiting for the twists....or the "gripping ". But I stayed with it to the (expected) ending.
Not enough characters to twist a plot through.
I would not recommend.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Bride' by John Nicholl.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for John Nicholl, Boldwood Books, Book And Tonic and Rachel's Random Resources Tours.

Publication date 28th June 2023

This is the eighth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Killing Evil' and 'The Doctor' (First book in the 'Dr David Galbraith' series) and 'The Wife' (Second book in the Dr Galbrailth series), 'The Father' (Third book in the Dr Galbraith series), 'The Carmarthen Murders' (First book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series) , 'The Tywi Estuary Killings' (Second book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series) and 'The Cellar' which I would also highly recommend.

This novel consists of 40 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

OMG!!!! Yet another fantastic success by John!! What a read!! Just Wow!!! This is one of the best psychological thrillers and series I have read in a long time,in fact that I have ever read!!!

Clear your schedules before picking this up because you won't be able to put it down!!

The storyline is absolutely addictive and gripping. I seriously WOULD NOT even start this book unless you have cleared your schedule because you will not be able to put it down!!! I absolutely blew through it in one sitting and it genuinely was unputdownable!!! A true page turner absolutely rammed with suspense, tension and everything you want when you read a psychological thriller. This would be absolutely amazing if turned into a movie, if done right of course!!! This is an absolutely gripping and addictive storyline.

Yet another absolutely gripping and addictive page turner from John Nicholl. I have yet to come across one of his books that I don't absolutely love!! This dark psychological thriller has the perfect amount of suspense, mystery, crime and tension to keep you absolutely hooked throughout!! I love the fact that this book is based in Ferryside which is literally 5/10 minutes away from me by car. The beautiful village I live in, Kidwelly , also gets several mentions!!! The fact that I recognised so many places really brought the story to life. John really describes Carmarthen, Kidwelly and Ferryside perfectly and even when this book is filled with crime and murder he manages to portray the beauty of local areas. I love that John mentions the vegetarian cafe on Merlins Lane  in Carmarthen (Waverley Stores & Vegetarian Cafe in anybody is interested to know what it is called and wants to visit themselves). I'm looking forward to my own visit there are my mouth watered from John's description of the vegan mushroom burger!!! The storyline is absolutely ram packed with crime, mystery, murder, suspense, tension, and everything you could ask for in an addictive psychological page turner!! It also has just the right amount of humour in to lighten the mood which I always love in crime books. Will I say more? Nope, sorry for the tease but you'll just have to pick up a copy to find out more. I can't go spoiling it for future readers now can I? I found the storyline to be unique which always a bonus with so many crime novels around it can get frustrating reading similar story lines constantly. I absolutely loved the ending which was an absolutely fantastic and unexpected twist that I would have never seen coming!!! I think I'll have to leave this here as I don't want to risk giving anything away but needless to say this book is an absolute must read with an unexpected ending. I would love to see this turned into a movie!!

Daisy is an extremely strong female character who is realistic and very believable, or is she? I enjoyed meeting her in this book and getting to know her family, her history and how she has got herself in the position she has. However, and this may be slightly biased as I was extremely lucky to have this character named after myself, but my favourite character has got to be PC Kirsty Whitlock!!!! I was absolutely landed when I seen I had been lucky enough for John to name a character after myself and I would love to see her/me more 😂!!!! A HUMONGOUS THANK YOU to John for doing this. It is literally a dream come true for me and after the horrific few weeks I've had it really has made my year!!!! Anyway, moving on, not that I want to 😂. I previously met one of the other characters DS Laura Kesey in the second Book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series 'The Tywi Estuary Killings' and also John's 'The Cellar'. I was pleased to "meet" her again. Detective Sergeant Laura Kesey who was another huge part of the team is very likeable and hard working and I do enjoy meeting her whenever I come across her in one of John's books.  I also loved Ray who I have also met previously, also in 'The Cellar' and who made me laugh a few times. He reminded me of Detective Inspector Gareth Gravel from the 'Dr Galbraith' and 'Carmarthen Crime' series by John although not quite as big an attitude problem!! I would love to meet Ray again as he is one of those characters that will stay with you well after finishing the book. All the characters are realistic and strong and John's vivid descriptions make them leap out of the pages. Regardless of whether you love or hate them these characters worked perfectly to make this book absolutely unputdownable and I cannot wait to get stuck into John's next book which is guaranteed to be another explosive page turner!!

I really cannot compliment and recommend this book more. It is a heart racing, nail biting, suspense packed psychological thriller that will stay with you for one hell of a long time.

Congratulations John on yet another absolutely addictive nail biting edge of your seat novel. This is exactly why you are my favourite male author!! As always I'm looking forward to reading your next page turner and success 🥂 !!!

Overall another unputdownable, heart racing, nail biting and addictive psychological thriller by the King of Crime John Nicholl!!!

John Nicholl will keep his readers guessing till the very end with his electrifying new thriller, The Bride.

Daisy is head over heels in love with James. She cannot wait to spend the rest of her life with him and on the morning of their wedding, she is absolutely overjoyed when she discovers that she is carrying James’ baby. The future looms bright and rosy for the young couple – until tragedy strikes. Daisy thinks that life couldn’t possibly get any worse for her – until she is arrested for killing her husband!

While everything might have looked perfect for Daisy and James, the reality was starkly different. Secrets, deceit and lies had loomed large over their relationship and with her freedom and her future on the line, Daisy realises that she can no longer afford to stay silent. The time has come for her to reveal what really happened on that last fateful drive together because if the truth doesn’t come out, her baby will end up losing both her father and mother.

John Nicholl’s The Bride is an excellent thriller perfect for readers who like their chillers creepy, unpredictable and packed with shocking twists and turns. An edge-of-your-seat page-turner that will keep readers up all night, John Nicholl’s The Bride is clever, exciting and so pacy it is an absolute struggle to put down.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Daisy and James have been together for years and have just come back to Wales from their honeymoon. They stop at some services, Daisy told James on their honeymoon that she is pregnant and she needs a break at the services.

Daisy gets them both a drink and sits and waits for James - and waits. James doesn’t come in and Daisy hunts all over the services with no sign of James anywhere.

The police look for him and he can’t be found. Daisy knows he wouldn’t just leave her so what could have happened to James?

This is such a great tale and I had no idea where the story was going to take me. I felt for Daisy, I couldn’t begin to imagine what she was going through and her grief was heartbreaking.

A tale of secrets and revenge. The ending was not what I was expecting at all and it was lovely to read a book where I didn’t know what was going to happen.

My thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
