For amateur sleuth Scottie Ramone, the only thing better than a hot, fresh cinnamon roll is an intriguing new mystery to solve!
Scottie recently made some life-changing decisions. (One might even call them rash.) She’s turned her whole world upside down and desperately wants to set it upright. After wallowing for a good month in her grandmother’s cottage in Ripple Creek, the small mountain town where she spent most of her childhood, Scottie sets off, determined to leave the past behind and fulfill her dream of starting a bakery.
In the midst of planning her new business, Scottie learns how to tamp down feelings for her childhood crush, meets new, interesting friends and stumbles upon a murder. It’s not the first time Scottie’s found herself at a murder scene and, once again, she’s intrigued. Now, the question is—was this a case of mistaken identity or did the killer know exactly what they were doing?

Scottie Ramone is in a funk. After a bitter breakup, she's returned to her hometown to stay with her grandmother and open a new bakery. Progress is moving slowly and Scottie is procrastinating by sleeping in and acting like a teenager - in front of her teenage crush! When the gothic Gramby Estate is sold, Scottie bikes over to be nosy and check out the new owner. Cade Rafferty, author of gothic thrillers inherited the estate over some other relatives. Cade soon discovers he can't even make up the things that happen to him! First, someone chops off the heads of the statues of the ancestor who built the monstrosity, leaving an axe in place. Then, the handyman Cade hired to do some work around the property is shot from behind. Ranger Dalton Braddock, Scottie's crush, seems to want to pin the murder on Cade without even really investigating. Scottie caught the sleuthing bug after solving her nana's disappearance so now she wants to prove to Dalton she can figure out the crime before he can. In her spare time, she bakes delicious treats for Cade and sells them at the farmer's market. She really needs to get that bakery fixed up and running. With the local handyman dead and all the good contractors booked and unwilling to come up the mountain, it seems doubtful the bakery will ever open.
I liked Banana Chiffon and Bad Deeds well enough to want to read this first book. I LOVED all the baking and really need some recipes. Scottie lost me putting pecans on her caramel cinnamon rolls but I guess it's the same idea as the sticky buns I make for Thanksgiving. I just leave off the nuts. The plot was so-so. It's fairly predictable and moves at a fast pace. The murderer appears out of thin air which was kind of weird. The motive wasn't what I expected and rather weak.
The setting is fun, with a lot of quirky locals but Scottie is not so likable yet. She's really immature given her age and experience. Her Nana says she's acting like a teenager and she is. Moving back in with Nana is not good for Scottie. Her ex-fiancé was a controlling jerk so I understand why she hasn't learned to be an adult yet, I guess but she better figure it out soon. I don't like plots where the nosy civilian decides they're going to solve the crime before the police and then withholds evidence. I like Nana. She's supportive and encouraging. Nana also tells it like it is and is eager to push Scottie out of the nest Nana can be embarrassing at times and should butt out of Scottie's personal life.
I don't like Dalton. He enjoys making Scottie feel uncomfortable. Dalton is engaged to mean girl . They don't seem to have anything in common yet he's going forward with the wedding. He borderline flirts with Scottie and they share a moment. Then when he meets Cade he becomes jealous and gets all mean and macho. Cade is much nicer. He's fun and friendly. He shares his life story and his home with Scottie. Cade doesn't quite flirt, he's more of a teasing, pleading boy begging for Scottie's baked goods. I don't enjoy love triangles but I think Scottie needs to ditch Dalton. She already ditched one controlling jerk. YES he's correct, she's not trained and shouldn't be investigating. HE should be investigating but he's not, partly because he's already investigating another crime and partly because he wants Cade to be guilty. Yet Scottie fears someone tried to kill Cade and got Saul by mistake.
Saul was lazy and a terrible handyman. He caused no end of distress for many people. He owed money to his brother-in-law, Kent Milner. Scottie overheard Kent arguing with Saul over the phone. Kent seems like he's a little big sleazy. He's a real estate business owner and always trying to sell, sell, sell. Another suitable suspect is Bucky, a teen with a motorbike. He may have been spotted near the scene of the crime. What would his motive be? Dana Forrest left a terrible review for Saul on Yelp. She has every reason to hate him but I don't think she killed him. She would never get money from him and she doesn't seem capable of shooing someone in the back of the head. If Cade was the intended victim, the chief suspect is Cade's cousin Jason Gramby. Jason is not too bright and a strong candidate for murderer. Rumor has it Saul was a ladies' man. I find that hard to believe. He was gross! Could he have had more than one woman on the go at the same time and one killed him? What about a jealous boyfriend or husband?
I like the secondary characters even though they're nosy and enjoy gossip too much. I'm not sure about Esme, the new bookstore owner. I don't quite trust her. I think she could be a murder suspect.
I like this series well enough to read another but if Scottie doesn't mature, not even the baked goods can save this series.
Not a fan of triangles.. 1 and done. I may come back to see how many books it takes for her to decide. Hopefully she won’t marry a 3rd person and almost get killed by the guy/husband and go back to the original 2. 20+books later. LOL
Yet another series that I’m going to be obsessing over! Per usual, I adore all of the characters! And the setting is my absolute favorite. Give me all the Rocky Mountain cozies! I honestly don’t understand how she has time to write sooo many amazing cozies year after year. Absolutely cannot wait for book two! This might be my most favorite series of hers yet!
Fleeing a disastrous wedding, Scottie Ramone finds herself back in the cozy little town where her grandma raised her. She contemplates opening the bakery of her dreams, but new a handsome new neighbor and a shocking gun wound entice her to try her hand at sleuthing.
There was an excellent selection of baked goods described in this book, but there was definitely more interpersonal drama than sleuthing. I don't hate drama, but I was expecting a dead body to appear sooner. Still, once the mystery got going, it was quite the adventure. I'm not yet sure I'll be reading the rest of the series, but I can tell it has all my favorite cozy mystery tropes, and it also does some fun things with Scottie's character that make her stand out from other amateur investigators.
The murder didn’t happen in this story until 57% of the story! That nearly 60% of background, setting up, and a whole lot of small detail of no consequence. Talk about drawn out and boring. I forced myself to finish, not because of finding out who as the killer, but about the sideline of romance. Only good thing about this story is that it is clean.
I really like the premise and the story but the main character at 40 years of age is bit immature. I do love a cozy where the amateur gets involved but not one who blatantly does not inform the police of clues found and who thinks they have the right and more intelligence to search for the murderer all alone. This could be a good series if only the character would include a buddy in with their sleuthing and start to act their age.
Okay. So Scottie's not in the best place (emotionally speaking) since she's sort of reeling from her decision to ditch her fiancé (days before the wedding) and buy a bakery. Or a potential bakery. A place that will eventually be a bakery again once she gets some much-needed work done on it. Regardless, she's dragging herself through her days and her grandmother is getting a little worried about her.
Actually, considering the small town thing going on here, the entire town is a little worried. Or at least mildly concerned because they're excited for that potential bakery and all the delicious goodness that will be coming from it.
Circumstances have Scottie starting to find her feet again when a case of statue vandalism and, well, murder really get her blood pumping. She also gets to make a new friend and we get to learn exactly how unsuited Dalton is with his fiancée. Look, it's probably hard to tell, but I have strong feelings about who Scottie needs to be eyeballing and he needs to figure out that the lady he's currently with is NOT a good fit for him (as Scottie's grandma has pointed out more than once).
Defaced statues, a dead body, a little intrigue, a little sleuthing, longing looks, and some danger. Yep, I'm enjoying Ripple Creek quite a bit!
This was intriguing but it took me way to longer to get through than it should have. I found the main character to be annoying and I didn’t enjoy the writing. Scottie is supposed to be 40 years old, and she talks like a 12 year old. Not to mention her knack for sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong because she feels she has a right to (she doesn’t) and almost getting herself killed. It’s so obvious who the killer is because it’s always the most obvious on the list of suspects but the last place they look. Duh. 🙄

Our story begins with Scottie Ramone heading into her wedding weekend in the bonus intro novella to the series. However, a phone call from her grandmother derails Scottie's plans as she heads up to Ripple Creek, her hometown, in order to find Nana, who has gone missing.
But it's not just Nana that's distressed the small mountain community. Just as soon as Scottie arrives, she stumbles - quite literally - into a murder.
As she works with the local ranger, and her childhood crush, Dalton to solve the murder, Scottie solves a few other problems of her own. And as she makes some life-changing decisions - namely opening a bakery in Ripple Creek - we find ourselves thrown into quite the quirky little town, with its own quirky cast of characters.
Moving quickly into the start of this series, we find Scottie putting her life back together in Ripple Creek. And I get it. When life changes that drastically that quickly, you need a safe place to land for a while. I know I sure did. And Scottie's safe place is with her Nana.
But of course, it wouldn't be a cozy mystery without the mystery. And while it takes a little while to ramp up - with the introduction of a new, handsome potential love interest - once it does, things get going rather quickly.
Scottie is on a mission not only to get her bakery up and running, but to nurture new friendships and solve a murder. She's determined to start anew, but her curiosity does get the best of her, and she's already proven to be quite determined when she makes up her mind about something.
As far as series starters go, I'm incredibly intrigued. The cast of characters are interesting, and I'm invested in seeing Scottie rebuild her future. I'm not quite as invested in this potential love triangle that may happen, but I'm willing to see where this goes.
And besides, who doesn't love a side of mystery and murder with their bakes goods?
The old gothic house high on the hill has a new neighbour. Days after Cade Rafferty's arrival, his contractor is shot dead during a break from work. Scottie Ramone happens to be first on-site and becomes embroiled in the intrigue.
Sometimes a mystery series will sweep you away and the Scottie Ramone Mystery Books do just that. These stories are beautiful escape pieces that demand nothing from you other than pure enjoyment.
Heads Will Cinnamon Roll continues to build on the setup from the introductory novel. Scottie is now moving towards rebuilding the life she recently blew up and has taken (baby) steps towards starting her bakery. The author cleverly had Scottie take a pause after her impetus purchase of a derelict shop as one would in real life - a "what have I done" moment, if you will. It is this gentle character-building that sets this series apart from other cosies. There is no race to get things moving here.
The mystery, for me, was the letdown. It felt grafted onto the story. Scottie's motivation for solving the crime and her investigation were tangential to the plot or, at least, not well integrated into her everyday life. It is unusual for me to dislike the puzzle portion of a mystery, but Scottie is on the verge of becoming a busybody and I don't want that for her. However, despite my criticism, the murder was not an easy solve, and Scottie had to explain her solution well before I could put it all together.
I do relish reading this series and will be more than happy to go along on future adventures.
I liked the story and the suspense. Good descriptions and interesting characters. Although Scottie seems very naive for a 40 year old woman, like she doesn't have a clue that Cade and Dalton both like her-although in Dalton's case I can see where she would be clueless as he is engaged to be married. Dalton is kind of mean to her at times, but she deserved it after putting herself in a very dangerous situation. She was lucky that he was already on his way to where she was and had called her right before he got there. Scottie keeps talking about getting her bakery up and running. She does have a builder lined up and is working on various recipes, but seems to spend a lot of time running all over town. There isn't much else to do as the building she bought needs a lot of work. I really couldn't understand why Scottie is paying her ex fiance's mother for everything she spent on the wedding, when the woman had taken over and spent a lot. And I was puzzled about her not wanting to touch her inheritance. What is she saving it for as she has no siblings or children. Her grandmother is a great character.
I started with the prequel (as offered for free in the kindle book). It was fun and introduces Scottie well with a quick backstory. I liked her and other main characters. Reading this book (Heads will…). Started off well, a few new people and situations. But… one of my all time most annoying tropes. The ‘She’s got so little self esteem she can’t see the two main males are fighting over her ‘. Ugh. Please, she’s supposed to be 40 and had most of her sh&t together before the past fiancé messed her up. She’s not that dumb She seemed to be pretty self aware before but now can’t see obvious things ?!?! Will be reading the next one because I hope things will improve moving forward. But I’ve also got a gripe about the ending. It was like falling off a cliff, they finally talked then I turned the page and that was the actual end very abruptly
3.5 stars....I did enjoy the story, though there are a few things that I find a bit annoying about it. First of all there is too much set up....pages and pages before the murder even happens. Secondly, and I don't like this in the Janet Evanovich books either....the pitting of 2 males against each other to win the woman's heart. Scottie is intrigued by the newcomer and they are getting along. But she is still pining for Dalton even though he is engaged to someone totally unsuitable for him. I find it hard to believe this woman is forty either...it doesn't fit. Otherwise I like the story, I like that it doesn't just add in random sex scenes, and the mystery is interesting. I wouldn't run out to buy the next in the series, but if I came across a copy, I wouldn't dismiss it either.
A quick read. A great setting. But a bit of a shaky pace to have. I was as good as invested in the story but the ending got so rushed I'm left here scratching my head.
Scottie does the typical cozy mystery formula: A 360° in her life, landing in a charming little spot and changing her career; however! This time not everything is set up. Her little cozy workplace isn't even ready yet! I liked that. I want to fight along her as she piles up her life again.
I also got to love everyone. And as always, my ass got a crush on the handsome gothic writer SIGH. Which prompts me to see where the rest of the story is going.
Hopefully I'll get to make it to the second book before the year ends :)
Scottie Ramone has left her pastry job in the city, along with her fiancé (just two days before the wedding!) and headed to live with her Nana in Ripple Creek. After spending some time depressed on the couch, she decides to make her dream of owning her own bakery come true. The shop she buys is a disaster and will need extensive renovations, but in the meantime she decides to test out her cinnamon roll recipe by selling some in the weekly open market in town. She meets the new owner of the Gramby Estate, who winds up having the local handyman shot at his picnic table! But was her the target or the owner? A fun and very entertaining mystery, leaving me wanting to read more of this series!
I loved this new series! I have a whole bunch of new favorites, Scottie, Nana, Dalton, Cade and Esme! I really like how the main character Scottie is just establishing her career and we get to see how she is building and designing her bakery from the menu to the actual store. Scottie also seems to have the knack for stumbling upon crime scenes. This one had me guessing all the way to the reveal!! I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next! This is an amazing series so far!!!
I really enjoy the cozy mystery genre, and the Scottie Ramone series seems like it’s going to fit right in. I enjoyed book one with her flirty new neighbor, Cade, and the brewing chemistry with Dalton. I also enjoy her nana and the new friendship blossoming with the bookstore owner. It’s fun to go for the ride on her life journey while also getting that mystery fix. The ending didn’t wrap up as nicely as I would have liked, I wanted a solid conversation with Cade at the end. Overall, a fun, quick read with lots of food! I baked twice while reading this in 5 days!
This is book 1 of 5 of an extremely fun and loving story Scottie Ramone, who is struggling to find her 40yr old self and dealing with the love of her Nana that raised her, the Ranger she has had a crush on since grade school, her dreams of opening a bakery, the charming Cade Rafferty that moves in just down the road, and last but not least her desire to see justice done as an amature slueth. It has been an incredible journey, London Lovette takes you through, and a definite 5 star.
Scottie has moved back home and has big dreams to open a bakery. What a dream! I adore stories with bakeries, the treats always sound so delectable and it reminds me of a hometown bakery I loved. Scottie stumbles upon a mystery and meets a new friend. She's still working through her feelings for her childhood crush. She has this cool grandma who is wise and supportive. I adore cozy mysteries and London is one of my favorite cozy authors.
Heads Will Cinnamon Roll is so good! I love Scottie. She’s sweet, funny, and has relatable insecurities. The other characters make a fun community. I’m looking forward to the series and where Scottie and the other characters grow from here. The mystery in this book was entertaining and there were enough suspects to keep me guessing.
Heads Will Cinnamon Roll was an ok, cozy mystery. I liked a few of the characters, but feel there is a love triangle coming soon (which I'm not a huge fan of in cozy mysteries). Scottie was a bit of a difficult protagonist, one that I found myself not caring about because she was a little immature for her age. 2.5/5 stars. I will probably not continue the series.
So glad I found this author. I will definitely be reading more of her books. Fantastic dialogue between characters who are engaging and realistic. The main character is witty and fun, someone you can easily imagine as a good friend. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
This was a light and enjoyable mystery. I had never read anything by London Lovett before but I’d like to read more. Her characters are believable. I love that there are times Scottie just blurts out something inappropriate or just tacky before she realizes it. She’s a good solid character.
Such a fun cozy mystery series. I’m looking forward to the next book. The main character has moved back in with her Nana who raised her after breaking it off with her controlling fiancé and having solved one murder is on to the next. No she is not a detective. She’s a baker. Enjoy.
How can you not fall in love with Nana and Scottie. I read this book in one day, including the bonus in the beginning. The reason for only 3 stars is due to the silliness in the 1st part when Evie (Nana) was missing and the almost casual attitude in finding this 80 yr old woman. But the main reason was the blunt ending.
Enjoyed this book thoroughly. Love the real struggle in relationships that Scottie goes through. and the solid relationship she has with her Nana. She really gets herself into some perilous situations - not always the best decisions, but that makes for the concertns about "will she get out of this ok?" as we read it.
The characters are great, the story is captivating and from beginning to end it is so much fun you don't want to put it down. I can't wait for the next book. Finding out what Scottie, Nana, Dalton and everyone else is doing in book 2 will be so much fun. Is the bakery open?
