Abducted by Love

Rate this book
Friends-to-lovers, slow-burn, reverse grumpy-sunshine, summer romance, and... aliens?

Kayce Baxter's summers all follow pretty much the same go to her best friend's rock shows, pine over said best friend, make sarcastic comments that push everyone away, and go on expeditions to try to find proof that aliens exist. You know, the usual university stuff.

Except university, and these magical summers, don't last forever. When Kayce reconnects with her former best friend years later, they have one last chance to find proof that aliens exist. One last chance to see if they can live a love story that's (literally) out of this world.

Abducted by Love is a guaranteed HEA for readers who want a love story that's as funny as it is romantic.

it was the BEST of times, it was the WORST of times (my mental state reading this book). this book had me 🤭🤭🤭 (when it wasn't excavating my trauma). emotionally-flaying, brutal, endearingly sweet F2L romcom

this was very cozy; enjoying this book as much as i did makes me fear that, contrary to my tough, intimidating exterior, i might be a softie...

will have u giggling, kicking ur feet, and asking, 'dear GOD, why do we accept so much unnecessary trauma and heartache as our due--and insist on shouldering it alone? why is it so hard for us to see ourselves as inherently lovable and desirable?' 😭

5⭐️ but i will be suing for emotional damages (also, i think it's pretty messed up for a book to mention chocolate so often and yet not come along with a little treat for me)

I saw this book recommended on reddit and it did not disappoint. It was such a cute and sweet read. I loved Brenner and Bax together. The song lyrics, the chocolate, and the crazy alien adventure. I love when a book makes you smile, which this one accomplished. Bax's mom cracked me up and I absolutely adored her.

The only thing that didn't work for me, which is usually an issue when reading a friends-to-lovers trope, was Brenner's dating life. I really don't like when the h is pining over the H and watching him with other girls. He is out there getting his rocks off while she sits back and hears about it or sees it. In the meantime, he is keeping guys who are interested in her away because he loves her. Let's also not forget that his sleeping with OW "doesn't mean anything". Whatever, dude. I feel bad taking a star off for this since I did really enjoy the book, but it just makes me want to scream when I read those parts because I loved this heroine so much and my heart hurt for her.

Anyways, I would definitely read this author again.

Sarah rec, what a funny way for me to find out she’s a closeted sap.

No fault to the book, but miscommunication trope isn’t my thing and I spent most of the book frustrated with the characters (and not in the fun way). Overall a cute, quick, easy read. The alien abduction sub plot is giving Indiana jones in the way it seems pretty irrelevant to the overall outcome.

This was so stinkin' cute and FUN that I am willing to forgive the (unfortunately) many mistakes in grammar/missing words. Also, because it's Keri Lane's debut novel and she really hit it out of the park with these characters and their story!

Here, you have two best friends who are named Casey and Kayce (sounds like Casey), and have been best friends since they were in the second grade. We meet them as they are graduating high school, which is also a night they almost become more then friends... and when they are cock-blocked by an alien crashing its ship nearby.

Yup. Bits and pieces of sci-fi in this one, with some alien tech and aliens. Though this really doesn't take over the story much. It's about following the trajectory of multiple near-misses as Kayce (Bax) and Casey (Brenner) grow up.

Slow burn, adorable friendship, a quirky, introverted gothic heroine and a rockstar hero who is the son of an upwardly mobile politician. I had been in a bit of a reading slump before, and this had me devouring it in a day, excited to see what came next.

Cute

I was looking for a friends to lovers story that somehow involved space travel or aliens. This fit the bill. Very cute

While I loved the Caseys and their sweet friendship and rooted for them to figure things out and get together it really bothered me that throughout the entire book Casey (MMC) fucks basically anything that doesn’t move out of the way fast enough while simultaneously telling guys behind her back to stay away from Kacey (FMC) because he supposedly loves her and they’re not good enough for her. Those are not the actions of someone who loves someone else. It was hard to watch her constantly getting her heart stepped on and just accept whatever scrap of attention he throws her way.

I loved this book. Seriously, loved.

Firstly, I have to mention this- I’m amazed (which feels like an understatement) that this book only has 6 reviews. Holy shit. I found this book on a reddit thread a few weeks ago and it’s since been sitting in my kindle library, so I thought when I went to look at the reviews there would be thousands. I’m going to try to make up for the lack of reviews though, with one super review. I don’t usually go to this effort, but this book seriously deserves some more love. If there’s a hundred fans of this book, I’m one. If there’s ten fans, I’m one. If there’s none? Then, I’m dead.

Side-note: I’m also gutted that I can’t buy a physical copy. I assume the author is Canadian and I’m British so it’s either a shipping issue or there’s no physical copies to be had :(

Onto my actual review of the story. I was looking for an edgier/‘emo’ main character (hence the reddit rec) and this didn’t disappoint. Reading this, made me realise I’ve never read about a character like Kayce before. She really is not like other girls. The way she dresses and jokes is like darkness personified and I love it. She truly is a quirky character and as someone who also sometimes says weird shit, I appreciate the mention of awkward reactions and the self-consciousness that comes with it. It’s so real. She doesn’t conform to the stereotype of the ‘constantly depressed emo’ either, she’s fun and daring. There’s an irony, to when she tries to conform that’s when she’s truly seen as lifeless. She’s best when she’s true to herself.

I (mostly) adore the alien aspect too. It’s actually what drew me into this story to begin with. It’s very unique. I love reading road trip stories and the little snippets we get of Kayce and Casey’s trips together were so sweet and nostalgic to me. They also add a layer of depth to the plot with the varying locations. Also, them having the same name is SO cute. Also, also, I just realised their names are Kayce and Casey, and their initials make KC- get it? I don’t know if that was intentional of the author but it’s a fun easter egg :)

The emotions of this story were a rollercoaster. I was trying to hold in my laughs while reading and had to keep trying to wipe away tears discretely because my family were in the same room. I’m not going to say anymore on that because… spoilers.

There’s so many little pieces to this story that I love. The lyric game, the chocolate bars, the nuggets of alien tech, the airport signs, the matching names, the dress, the mums of KC- omg.

8/10 book. It really could have been a five star read for me but it lost momentum in the last third and there was quite a sudden shift of sci-fi(?) at the end. I like paranormal stuff but it became a bit unbalanced with the rest of the story and was quite rushed. However, I did love the final chapter. It was a pretty perfect way to end the book.

If you love witty characters, really sweet love interests, a fun plot and sometimes getting in your feels- then I recommend this book a thousand times over. Have fun reading :)

Abducted by Love is another fun, unexpected story. Kayce and Casey have years of missed opportunities and misunderstandings in their love story. The first big roadblock was when they were finally making moves at the last possible minute of senior year in high school, and they were interrupted by an alien.

After that, the story is a mixture of angst, discovering who you are as person, and eventually - and I mean a long time down the road - they learn to be brave in their honesty with each other.

This is a sweet romance at its heart, with a light sprinkling of alien encounter. Until near the end when the sci-fi nature of the story really ramps up. But it was a great read.

not perfect, but has a ton of charm

Could use a light editing, both grammatically and to the content, but this is a really sweet book. The heroine is a wonderfully written character. I really enjoyed getting to know her. I wish there had been a bit more balance between the alien story and the love story, but overall, I had a great time reading this. I will definitely pick up future releases from this author. Great work.

Amazing story, highly recommend! Abducted by Love hooked me instantly and I flew through the pages like I haven't done in years. The pacing is amazing leaving not a single boring moment. There's so much to love; humor, crazy antics, unbreakable bonds, and ultimately - an epic love story.

The relationship between Kayce and Brenner is so realistic. There was so much passion behind the story it gave me shivers. The way Kayce continually finds new ways to describe Brenner and her feelings for him makes him jump off the pages. I could literally read thousands of pages of this alone. As for Kayce herself, who would think that simply describing her hairstyle and makeup at the start of each part could so easily give us insight into her state of mind. It was so relatable.

That summer when Kayce starts to move away from Brenner, I got so choked up, afraid that things would be irreparable. I wanted to shake them both, but at the same time, the back and forth slow burn was done so well.

With that said... there are a lot of typos, but I don't care. Normally I do. I care a lot. But, Abducted by Love is just that good, I can't remove a single star. It was amazing, I enjoyed it immensely, and I hope Keri Lane keeps writing (with some beta readers to catch those typos).

I don't even read this genre and have no idea why I decided to download it, but I couldn't be happier that I did. This is without a doubt the best book I've read in a long time.

This book was amazing! I loved the friends to lover aspect of it all! I especially appreciated how much of their friendship you got to see. They have this whole song lyric game that is so adorably heart-melting.
The characters, though, are what really make this book! She's such a prickly character (almost like Aubrey Plaza in Parks and Rec). She's so funny and weird! I could not get enough of it. Then, the MMC is just... swoon. He's such a cinnamon roll character, plus in a band. I love the way he rolled with all her weirdness.
Love it!
