What a journey this was! I love how all the stories were connected by the same object, but while also adding their own unique taste and flair. To think something as mundane and ordinary as a stuffed pink rabbit could go on the journey that it did...wow! These writers did a fantastic job of coming together to write a collection that...kind of sort of maybe made sense (but even if it wasn't supposed to...doesn't matter!) I love the randomness of it all and want to see this group of writers work on something else!
Let's talk about why this was an absolute blast this book is. Setting aside the terrific premise of four writers in a single book, all of them turn in positive bangers about cursed objects and show that 3B is recognizing some quality.
Joe Ortlieb opens the book and his story sets a fantastic and wonderful tone for what's to come. A story of loss, told with humor, whimsy and emotion. One man stumbles upon a cult and finds more than just a simple toy. It's a story with surprising and beautiful depth, emotion and solid action.
Not to underestimate Matthew Vaughn, Damien Casey and Kyra Torres. Every author in this collection brings their absolute A-game to the stories, and Torres's Matrescence is a positive, joyous highlight. An absolutely terrific effort and I look forward to seeing more from all of them.
This was a fab read. I blasted through this in two sittings. The four stories here are all really good, often taking situations to Bizarro land and beyond in a few pages! There’s a lot to like in this small anthology, and I recommend people check it out, as it’s a great little book. For me, the best story was Matrescence by Kyra Torres, as it really hit me hard and got me all teary. I loved this anthology very.
A simple theme: every story built around an object. But beyond that every tale is wildly different. Some are eerie and unsettling, others comedic or truly heartbreaking. Another great book from 3-B Publishing!
Four authors wrote four horror stories, all connected by a shared object. This was a quick read that I ran through in one sitting. The stories are wide-ranging, from comical horror action to tragedy, so there’s something for everyone. Definitely worth a read.
