From USA Today best-selling author Jennifer Sucevic comes a sexy, new standalone novel.
There was a time when Skye Sinclair was my entire world, then she dumped my ass and took off. Now she’s back, waltzing into town three years later like nothing happened. She’s hoping we can coexist on campus until graduation. That’s not going to happen. One run-in is all it takes to realize I haven’t moved on. I still want her.
Know what else I want?
To bring that girl to her knees.
Skye can pretend all she wants that she’s over me, but her body will betray her every chance it gets. I’m going to make damn sure that my touch is the only one she craves. And when I’m done with her, I’ll be the one walking away.

Heartless is a chessy NA romance. It is so cheesy that the drama is childish. It took me a while for me to finish this book because I need to set my mood to read cheesy romance. Miss Sucevic hits all the right spot for NA romance. The banter, the plot, the OTT drama that I think is all about miscommunication, was present in Heartless.
I do not want to write long review. Just want to move on to the next book.
Skye returned for her senior year in college, after an absence of 3 years. She broke up with Hunter when she left, her soulmate, and now that she has come back, Hunter wants to get his revenge and closure. The story was well written, dual pov, I liked it but wasn’t thrilled. The ending was abrupt and short.
Wasn’t a fan of this. Just not a believable story to me. They went from dating from 14-18 year old (losing virginities together) to both sleeping around a lot. In 3 years... Seems weird that they supposedly loved each other so much but completely changed their personalities in that short of a time. And the reason he was so angry was just that she dumped him, the whole premise of the book is dumb. She dumped him because his brother convinced her that he needed to focus on football (something that has no guarantee anyway). Even though he only got as good as he was while they were dating.... Hmm sounds like a believable storyline 🙄She was an idiot for going with it, but she immediately started jumping in other guys beds so if she was a real person I would assume that she was happy for the chance to sleep around. He stated some where that he mourned her for a couple of months. Ok... Then he became a manwhore of epic proportions even leaving for a threesome the first night he sees her in 3 years (because of course he is, what would a story like this be without a “hero” that has no personality but a lot of sex with other women) So long story short? Characters were boring and weren’t believable as a couple in love, plot has been done to death and there is nothing unique to save it. This was a DNF, slim, and return for me.
Yeah no, the h was too fucking stupid. She legit went down on the H with some other girls saliva still on his dick. No, thank you. Like ewww. He basically only needed to touch her for her to lose her mind. I get she broke up with him but still it was because of his low life brother.
Heartless by Jennifer Sucevic was an excellent and fun read. Hunter and Skye were excellent main characters that were developed well and realistic. I loved their description and had no difficulty picturing them. The storyline was easy to follow and addictive. I loved friendship, family, romance, strength and determination woven into it. It was organized and edited well.
The author had me hooked from page one and I could not put this book down. Skye and Hunter were once a couple but split at the end of high school which basically shattered them. Now Skye has returned and things are very different. Definitely check this book out! I highly recommend it.
Finished much stronger than it started. Not a bad story, but the writing is not great. It was a fast read but character development was weak.
I get this is new adult/college, but the “locker room” style of dialogue and inner monologue throughout the first half was not doing it for me.
Skye was also way too much of a pushover. I would have liked to see her put up more resistance. She folded like a lawn chair, Hunter barely had to do anything.
It's reads like this where I wish I had the ability to DNF. It just felt so childish and ridiculous the whole way through. I want to own the fact that I'm probably not the right audience for this type of read but it had been sitting in a to read pile, and I wanted to switch things up.
The characters deserved each other, the plot was predictable, not enough grovelling, and the only person I envied was the person dying.
Really Enjoyed this audiobook, I have been in a big Slump! Haven't finished a book in months! College, Football Player, Highs School BF/Gf, She transfers college to the same college H attends, H is heartbroken from when h broke up with him in HS. HE literally toys with her emotions both physical and mentally, after they have hooked up several times, h catches him in the act at a College party. There is a lot of back and forth, just read it!
The blurb gave nothing away about the most heart wrenching situation of this story which added a level of drama to it I was not expecting.
Reading the prequel hooked me on this book as the high school sweetheart trope sucked me in. I don’t normally like that genre but Jennifer Sucevic weaved the story in a way that made me fall in love with Hunter and Skye right from page one.
They had been together since freshman year and allowed nobody to come between them. Already a breakout sensation, the little high school girls were constantly fawning over Hunter and his success as “one to watch for NFL”, wanting a piece of the stardom but he only had eyes for Skye. He decided the moment their eyes locked for the 1st time at the start of Freshman year that she would be his and made it so. Some drama happened that set off a domino effect, blowing up their happy little world. The worst part is it was all done in (misguided mind you but) the name of love.
We are taken on an emotionally exhausting ride that had me rooting for these two to get their issues sorted out and get their HEA (which they did btw). I finally out it down as the words were blurring but I gobbled this book up in HOURS it was so captivating. I’d just finished another book yesterday that was supposed to gut me and this one hit me harder, not even trying! Lol amazing how certain stories can draw you in without trying. Great writing!
All in all, I’m adding this book to my reread list for sure! The only reason it didn’t get a 5 because of a few lose ends and questions and how Hunter could have been made to pay a bit more before being let back in. I feel, after all she’d done and been though, Skye should have been worth the extra work. Jennifer us one of my new (to me) fav authors and I’m working on her back log! I’m about 6 books in now and so excited I have choices!!!
What a wonderfully heartbreaking happy duo Hunter and Skye make. Due to unforeseen circumstances, their lives get ripped apart and miraculously pulled back together again. I cried my eyes out reading this. There is so much angst and love, it almost broke my heart for them. I'm definitely adding this to my "Meant To Be" list.
This book was just ok. The hero was a total jerk until 75%. And then there was just no chemistry. It was well written. Something was just missing. I will not read this author again.
This book was perfect. First loves are sometimes impossible to get over. Some people spend their whole lives wanting to be loved this way. This story was full of heart shattering moments. I was also full of heart bursting moments as well. Fantastic writing.
Decent storyline and main character development. The story had some very heartbreaking moments and the author had me feeling Skye’s impending loss. I loved the epilogue! I can’t wait to read more of Jennifer Sucevic’s work.
This story was more fun your typical enemies to lovers it was also a second chance love story. Skye and Hunter were hot and cold but always had a love for each other that kept the story engaging.
I know this author writes the equivalent of a lays potato chip. No substance. No value. Probably bad for you in every way. But slightly addictive I guess if you’re feeling like thinking is way too hard. But this book is the equivalent of hitting your head with a hammer. Genuinely, if you try to think about any of the details, you’re gonna get a headache and will have sacrificed some neurons to get there. Hunter: Grade A a-hole. Like, I’m all for angsty 2nd chance romances. But this man? Woof. he’s a sprinting red, pink, purple, blue, orange, every color but green, flag. I know this author has no real concept of how adults act. How she managed to boil everyone down to a pile or hormones and room-temperature IQ (and this is every book she writes) - I consider it a modern marvel it’s published. Truly a testament of the times and a shining example of the modern reader. Anyway I digress. This MMC is actually a bad person. He’s 1) purposefully screwing other women publicly to hurt her. 2) physically assaults her multiple times (yes, she said no and kept moving away and he still pursued. I don’t care how much you wanna attempt to justify it by “oh but she was into it”. It’s still assault :) ). 3) insults her multiple times in the book, saying he hates her. So all of this happens! Because they broke up in highschool. HIGHSCHOOL. The same time teens are learning to drive cars and debating on if Italian brainrot is valid- somehow these kids felt the ultimate love and betrayal. lol ok. Again, hitting head with hammer if you think too hard.
2) FMC is spineless. We know this. We come to expect it. Because if you’re a modern romance writer and you aren’t furthering the patriarchal ideals of a woman - you’re doing it wrong I guess. Women are too emotional and can’t separate emotion and logic and Skye is your poster child for it. We aren’t escaping misogyny with this one, girls. I’m pretty sure this book does not even come close to passing the bechdel test. It’s laughable that any girl in this book has an independent thought devoid of a man. All girls but Lanie and Skye are here to hit on the men, so don’t expect any girl power here. Lanie is an enabler, who also cannot think of working outside the confines of a man. The professor, who really is just a plot checkpoint, also is attracted to hunter.
3) if you expect groveling - HAHAHA that’s your fault for expected any character development, you dumb dumb idiot. MMC gets confirmed that FMC wasn’t at fault. He apologized I think once? But that’s all we get. We get one paragraph of “I’m sorry.” And he backs off a few weeks, but it’s boiled to literally 1 paragraph and then it hard skips to her dad dying so we’ve completely blown the forgiveness plot from the water. It’s suddenly grief and him helping her- which would’ve been fine had he not done all the stuff I laid out in point 1. He’s genuinely a bad person. Let’s throw a hypothetical out there, though this made be hard for some given you lost 15 IQ points getting to the end of this book. So, let’s say Mason wasn’t an issue. Girly just did what can be expected of high schoolers and dumped him and did it of her own cause. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it’s can be heartbreaking. Does that justify his actions? No :) just because you added an antagonist to make the FMC innocent, doesn’t make it okay in any shape or form. Even if Miss Moron was at fault, none of his behavior is remotely justifiable. Even if he is mad! And another hypothetical. Let’s say FMC betrays his trust again. Cause remember these kids are maybe what? 21? 22? Bound to mess up again. Does that give him leeway to psychologically torture her again to make himself happy? NO. So why is it okay now? And before anyone is like “oh well the book says he feels guilty and he apologizes so everyone knows it’s wrong”. If it wasn’t okay, why does anyone remotely forgive him for his actions. Why is HE in therapy for his anger issues?? Why isn’t HE suffering any consequences??? Hunter gets off scott free. Sure he feels a wittle sad :,( truly a tragedy. But he gets no character development. No real turning around point. He just snaps his fingers and forgives her cause she’s innocent. If she wasn’t, well I guess that makes his actions okay then :) And I can imagine someone rebutting with “oh but this is a book we need an HEA”. That’s fine; I can suspend my disbelief. I can accept character flaws. What I hate is no development. I hate the act of forcing everything to be okay so you hit the “neat little bow” quota. I’m glad I didn’t spend money on this.
It’s my fault for hoping that the author would avoid the same recycled plot points, tropes, and characters - but I’ve learned my lesson I suppose. Get that bag I guess? Even if you have to insult readers and women alike to get there.
I was so close to being so happy with this until he stopped giving her space and her mate enabled him.
Thats such a submissive thing to do, just let the people in your life decide its ok for them to control your pain.
Pain is a fact of life and he really didn't have any consequences for.controlling her experience of life before.and then doing so again after.
Help is Sought, Not Imposed.
I mean, I get it, as a woman she's meant to survive on being loved by him so much.
Contrary to Gentrified opinion, it is very rude to bring up your baggage when someone is lost.
His pain can't be what heals her.
And no those counselling sessions won't work until she wants to have counselling.
What it will do is give her a.place.for her to put her pain so her friends and loved ones don't have to see it.
Will still have to hide it in front.of her friends least anothe intervention takes place.
Thats the reality of that outcome.
She's just going to see their control issues.
Its ok for her not to be ok.
Its been two weeks.
Already all over her.
If it lasted more than six months fine but rolling over people when the news has just happened, demanding they fix themselves before they have time to process, is not ok.
His feelings don't give him the right to do that.
On a reread actually.lowering the stars.
How dare she not be allowed to state her boundaries.once.
He treats her.like.vagina meat over and over.and still.only cares at the end that she is special to him.
He wants something to protect that reflects him. Someone he can control.
When she says she is hurt being used by him hes STILL heartbroken hes still pretending her pain doesnt matter because he gets to use her over and over.
Poor girl is sick and its because her father, her "lover" even her "friend" Lanie refuse to.stop trying to.control her pain.
Heartless by Jennifer Sucevic is a very entertaining read which I did enjoy very much. Skye and Hunters story is an enemies to Lovers/second chance romance. They dated in high school and thought they would be together forever but that was not what happened. Skye was forced to break off their relationship and moved away, breaking Hunters heart leaving him bitter an angry. 3 Years pass and Skye has to move back to the place she grew up and the place were the first boy she had ever loved still resided...the boy she had to let go...the boy who is now a man. Going to the same college was going to be a problem he was even more devestatingly gorgeous than ever and filled with hatred for her. Hunter had a dream to play in the NFL and he was close to achieving that dream until Skye comes back into town and going to the same college...disrupting his life again. She was still beautiful but he was so angry with her for destroying their future with no explanation, there was no way he was going to let her get away with it. He would make her life hell and get her to admit she still loved him, make her want him and then he would break her like she broke him. But behind the rage Hunter still loved Skye and she held the key to why she left, what was she hiding..he needed to find out. There was alot of push and pull between Skye and Hunter and Hunter could be really cruel sometimes. Skye was dealing with so much in her life and I felt so bad for her. Hunter is as sexy as all sin but he is such a meanie, which was understandable but he annoyed me sometimes...Skye should have told him the truth and I was annoyed with her for keeping it to herself and putting up with the hate. Its a great story though steamy and emotional,I like it alot even when I was annoyed..lol.. Fantastic story. 5 Stars.
"She broke my heart and took away the only thing that mattered. Her love. An angsty and dark, second chance college sports romance from USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Sucevic. When I hightailed it out of town after high school graduation, I didn't think there was anything that could bring me home again. But I was wrong. When the worst happens, it blows my world apart and sends me into free fall, forcing me to return to the one place- the one person -that holds all my heartache. Hunter Price. The guy I loved more than life itself. He doesn't understand that in order to save him, I had to do the unthinkable-open my hand and let him go. With no other choice but to attend the same university, all I want is to lay low and stay off his radar. We have one year left before graduation and he gets drafted to the pros. My hope is that after all this time, he's moved on and will leave our relationship where it belongs-in the past. Why wouldn't he? He's all but exploded at the college level, just like I knew he would. When people talk Claremont football, they're talking about Hunter Price. And the girls? Even when we were in high school, they trailed after him like lovesick puppies before falling at his feet. Now there's even more of them. One disastrous run-in is all it takes to realize that he hasn't forgiven or forgotten anything. He's still bitter about the breakup. Only now do I realize that if Hunter has his way, he'll bring me to my knees, inflicting as much damage as he can. And there's nothing I can do but steel my heart and hope I'm able to withstand it."-Goodreads
Kind of an odd book… it ends very abruptly. There is an epilogue that jumps almost two years later. But the ending is literally just them saying they love each other still and deciding to go back to their house to fool around and you turn the page and done. If the author had added one more chapter and turned the epilogue into a full scene this would have had a very nice conclusion.
There were things I really liked though, both characters were mostly enjoyable to read. The guy was hurt, and acts out. Author does cross a line for me that I find unacceptable. He starts to hook up with another girl, and then ditches her to go hook up with the leading lady…. That’s gross. Like, take a shower sir. but then that tidbit gets glossed over after the first intimate scene. So it’s actually not all that spicy.
The ending really grates though. The whole book is them mad at each other, and the tension and chemistry is great but you expect a little more after they finally admit how they feel. Really killed it for me.
This book is also very sad. Trigger warning: father has terminal cancer. I wasn’t expecting this and it does consume a lot of the book. Lots of tears. And again the epilogue could have been a great way to close out the story but instead it’s just a page and a half of a surmised year.
For me this wasn’t the escape I was hoping for and that ending… so bad.
HEA: bitter sweet, but yes Spice: yes, open door, low heat Cliffhanger: No
The lovers to enemies to lovers story of Skye Sinclair and star QB Hunter Price. Throw in some tragic heartbreak in both families, Hunter parents die in a boating accident leaving his older brother Mason to give up college to look after him. With both waiting for the day Hunter get that big pay off and drafted in the NFL. Then there’s Skye quietly dealing with her fathers cancer diagnosis, (which means her spending her last year back at the same college as her ex: Hunter) along with an annoyingly self absorbed stepmother. All goes to crap when Hunter wants revenge on the only girl he ever loved who dumped him. Meanwhile, Skye try’s (unsuccessfully) to avoid him due to an agreement she stuck with his older brother three years previous. Despite this book having a LOT of the usual tropes: The bestie who is in the story to force our heroine out of her comfort zones, dragging her to parties (then dumping her constantly for here own bf) so she can have those opportunities to tun into the ex bf and create tension Then we have the usual situation: being assigned to work together against their will to turn in a paper do they have no other option it to get close again( how many times have I read this situation in high school or college bully romance? Is it like, romance fiction 101?) BUT! Despite the set ups you can see coming a mile off, it wasn’t a bad read... four stars. It would have been five but you know, those tropes annoy me
Once Skye's circumstances were revealed and her actions validated, more so after Hunter backed off his bullying, Sucevic settled into writing a heartbreaking and truly wrenching remainder of Heartless. That first sixty percent of the book filled with page after page of Hunter's cruelties and heartless bullying was harsh and frustrating. This is one aspect of this writer that I don't care for nor find realistic. She overplays the negative, taking the antagonism to an extreme level that didn't fit Hunter's actual character. He was an inherently kind, intuitive and humble person who was blinded by his pain, but there isn't any way someone like Hunter would demean Skye the way he did -- she never came across as a slut, and that's how he treated her. Therefore, I took away those two stars for that lack of forethought, reason, logic, over the inconsistencies in her characters.
The rest - once he uncovers the truth - was brilliantly done. Tear jerk moments, and so much angst and malingering as Hunter completely redeemed himself. Beautiful.
I like this author. I've read quite a few of her books... this one just didn't do it for me compared to her other series. I really enjoyed the short story that set the stage for this book and so when I started reading - I had pretty high expectations. I just couldn't get past the way Hunter's character developed. His over-the-top aggressive behavior was too much for me. The story got there in the end and had some redeeming qualities, but I'm not sure I was fully happy to see the happy ending. That being said - I am excited to read more by this author- you can't hit a home run every time. If you are a fan of college-aged - second chance romance - give this a try, you might like it more than I did. This author is still a great addition to your book collection. Happy Reading...enjoy!
Heartless is not heartless at all. It’s full of so much emotion I couldn’t stop this book once I started. I started with the audio which was really good but I switched to ebook because I needed to know what was going to happen.
I am not going to lie. I struggled at times with Skye because I felt she was weak and wanted her to lash out at Hunter and not let him play her like he was, but in the end I understood because the love they had was deep and their situation was a tough one. I came to appreciate the love Skye had for Hunter and the reasons why she did all she did. She had so much to come to terms with and when the truth was finally out I got to see a side to Hunter I didn’t know existed and it was beautiful.
This book was such a good one and I loved it so much.
Skye is pretty cool. Hunter is promising revenge for her breaking up with him 3 years prior. I had imagined a "bully" scenario and I face palmed when Skye would sleep with him. His bullying was sex. She loved him.
I took off a star because I totally and fully did not understand Mason, Hunter's brother.
I really felt her anguish for her dad though her home life seemed a bit "light" along with Mason's part in favor of intense bullying by Hunter.
So it's a good story but enhancements of secondary characters might of elevated it to complete 5 stars.
This book was mostly redundant contradictions. It felt like the characters were constantly at odds with themselves, in addition to each other. The FMC was so internally obsessive about the MMC, I feel it ruined the story and what little plot there was.
The end was also a little weird. One minute she says let’s go back to my place and fool around and the next minute it’s 18 months later and her dad is dead and they’re married. The FMC was nice just not a well developed character, unless you’re counting how weak she was. I actually thought Lanie and Jax were best parts of the story.
