It's Beth's fault they took the scenic route. She had thought this road trip might do the trick. It might be the excuse for her and Kerry to finally talk. Maybe even laugh, like they used to do. But the scenic route isn't so scenic when the snowstorm hits, and Kerry isn't smiling when their car gets stuck on the side of the road. A roadside motel offers a chance at warmth — and unpacked baggage.
Catherine Fletcher is a queer romance writer who likes campfires, strong coffee, red wine and romances with an edge. She is always looking for the sea, always wishing there was more time in the day to read and to write, always wanting to cuddle her cat.
She lives in southern Ontario, and is into romance, sci-fi and fantasy, preferably queer. She loves forced intimacy, idiots-to-lovers and that good, good mutual pining.
Such an intimate and heartachey little story set in the dead of winter! Catherine is a master of showing the distance that has grown, maybe for no real reason, between two lovers, and then of bringing us along as a minor disaster forces them to re-evaluate and re-connect. Lovely!
A sweet, sapphic romance with an established relationship at it's heart, this short story from Catherine Fletcher is warm, despite the snow storm setting. A grown up story about a grown up relationship, and the pitfalls therein.
Most romances are centered around first-time-will-they-won't-they drama, but this short story centers around a married WW couple on a roadtrip. We don't know why there is a disconnect between them at first, but the ensuing snowstorm helps push these two to reveal what's at the heart of it, and what brought them together in the first place.
A touching and thoughtful work— a cozy bit of hurt/comfort for those craving a bit of connection.
Being snowed in is one of those experiences I love reading about while absolutely never wanting to experience (see also: dungeons, marriage). Baggage for Two is a story about a relationship under strain, and the spark that comes back to it. It's low spice but feels very tender, and I've found it joyful to re-visit.
Touching and delicate, this story of a relationship on the rocks pulls at the heartstrings even as the reader holds their breath and hopes for the best! An excellent choice for a quick read that will warm you up in the depths of winter.
