⛔️ Hero broke up with the heroine to be with the one night stand he knocked up because he likes to go raw dog … now he wants her back and she’s so happy! She gets to couple-up with him and raise his little mistake… why are there so many books with this plot?
Also the guy on the cover probably has truck nuts on his pick up.

Nope… this guy needs to stay in her rear view.

Wrong For You is a new small town, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, second chance romance by Harloe Rae. Grumpy single dad Jacob dumped Harper years before after his world was turned upside down. From then on he was gruff and rude to her, as a way to keep her at a distance. But his sweet little girl, Sydney had other ideas as she gravitated towards her sunny dance teacher, Miss Harper, desperately needing a positive female influence in her life. Once Jacob finally decides to stop fighting his feelings for Harper, he has to convince her to give them a real chance.

This was a fun book to read! As frustrated as I was with the way Jake treated Harper early in the book, it was funny to watch him get worked up with jealousy and then have Harper constantly throw her sass back at him. His heartwarming relationship with his daughter definitely smooths out his rough edges. Sydney is the center of his world, and building a loving family for her is at the heart of this book! Harloe Rae knows how to write relatable characters with authentic emotions, witty banter, and man can she bring the heat! The passion between Jake and Harper is a 5-alarm fire! Just to keep things interesting, there was a plot twist that worried me for a second, but ended up bringing different emotions. For me, it always comes back to the characters, and the way Jake, Harper, and Syd fit together is picture perfect. Grab this book!

I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jake gave me whiplash with how fast he went from "hating" Harper and being a complete jerk to her to then wanting her. I just don't think there was enough focus on the reason behind him being such a jerk and it wasn't fleshed out enough to make sense. I also didn't fully understand how we went from the prologue with them breaking up because he found out he had gotten another girl pregnant and seemingly ending okay or at least for Harper she seemed understanding of why he was breaking up with her even though it hurt her. To then chapter one opening up years later with Jake being a total dick to her. Like what happened in between all of that and why? And then of course it didn't take much for him to say he wanted to start over.

The motivations of the characters didn't make sense to me so it had me confused and a little bored with them. And also left me feeling like the book moved too fast. I think the bottom line is that this book wasn't for me.

"We might be wrong every now and then, but in the end, we’ll always be right."
I love the way Harloe writes and how she slowly pulls you in. It’s kind of poetic and swoony, and then it turns dirty—and when it does, you find yourself unwilling to put the book down.
I thought Rhodes was my favorite Harloe hero—I was wrong.
Jake takes the cake. And the fudge. And the word “impressive” will never be the same for me again.

"She smells like flowers and rain after a drought and long-awaited comfort. The combined fragrance labels her as mine."
Harper is the sassy heroine you look up to and want to be. She turned her life around. She has her own business and the best friends she could ask for. She loves her small town, even if it comes at the price of having to see Jake every once in a while. But when she does? Yeah, she gives him hell. Good for her.

"With Syd out of earshot, Jake ditches the tolerant pretense and spits a curse. She’s the only one who softens his jagged edges. The rest get piss, vinegar, and a heaping dose of disdain."
I’m not gonna lie to you—Jake is an asshole. But the way his daughter has him wrapped around her little finger… It’s hard to resist. He does whatever he needs to do for her. He will always do that. Up to a point where there’s no room for his own happiness because they’re a package deal, and who would sign up for that?
But maybe that’s not exactly true.

"Following me now?"
I shrug. "Keeps things interesting."
"As if you’re boring."
"Careful with the compliments or I’ll be under the table having you for breakfast."

Jake and Harper were together for a few months in high school, and they were happy. Until he broke her heart and walked away. He got Sydney out of it, and he has no regrets because she’s his little girl and his whole world. Harper moved on, went to college, and tried to forget about him—especially because he’s an ass to her every time he sees her.
But you know what they say about that thin line that separates love and hate.

"You represent everything I won’t let myself have, but that doesn’t stop the want. I want and yearn and crave. Desperately."
When she starts working at his favorite bar, the walls separating them start to shake. It’s not just the tension, but the banter that was top-notch. She doesn’t let him get away with anything, and I lived for it.
When they’re forced to coexist because Harper is Sydney’s dance teacher, the shake becomes an earthquake. And when Sydney starts pushing them together—not so subtly, let me tell you—and they have dinner at his house? Let’s just say the walls come tumbling down and that was… Impressive.

"How did I ruin you?"
"There’s no replacing you, Pitchy. Nobody else comes close."
"But we only dated for a few months,"
"Didn’t have to be mine for long to leave a permanent mark."

Shutting everyone out was Jake’s way of dealing with the loss of what they had. And possessive, grumpy, growly Jake thought he could just have a taste of Harper, but that won’t cut it. The connection between them is like this fire that can’t be stopped and it only gets worse the more time they spend together. They try, but there’s no way to put it out. And the garage scene?
Ah, there are perks to dating a mechanic.

"If nobody could get to me, they couldn’t see the broken man I’ve become. But you’ve never shamed me, Harper. Even when I deserved it."
There are bumps along the way. Jake is afraid because of Sydney, because she can get hurt in the meantime if they don’t work out. Or maybe because they can prove too much for Harper. Harper is afraid because he’s hurt her before and she’s not ready to go through it again.
The thing is that he didn’t mean to then, and he sure as hell doesn’t mean to now. And they need each other, more than they realize they do.

"I fucking miss you. When you’re gone for a minute or a day—or shit, even a week. It wrecks me, but I never want it to stop. Wanna know why?"
"Tell me."
"It means I love you."

I won’t say there weren’t some dark times to this story, but Sydney sheds some light on those. That girl knows this thing between her dad and her teacher is special, and she’s right. At the same time, it all felt so real—their relationship, the good times, the bad times, the need to be loved and to love in return, the fear of losing… All of it comes together to make a wonderful book that is definitely my favorite by Harloe so far.

"I’ve loved you since I had the temporary privilege of calling you mine."
When someone loves you, they’ll love everything about you. Your temper tantrums, your growls, your little girl, the way you make them swoon sometimes. They’ll also love your sunshine, the way you give without asking for anything in return, the way you love.
If they had stuck together, theirs would be a run-of-the-mill love story. As they didn’t, and as they seemed wrong, but were so right, this was special. Really, really special.

DNF at 37%

It really sucks because I was excited to read this one! But I have to stop because of the frustration it’s giving me.

I’m sorry but Jake is a jerk and I’m not liking him. This is definitely supposed to be a grumpy/sunshine romance but he’s just a straight up asshole (which he himself admits).

I really got put off when he randomly offered to eat her out and then just acted like a jerk after. He goes and apologizes and says there can’t be anything between them. Just this intense anger he has towards her for no real reason is annoying.

Also, I just think Harper is just too fine with being disrespected by him. He breaks her heart and spends the next few years being a straight ass towards her. Maybe it’s me, but I just don’t see his appeal at all and I feel like she needs to have more of a back bone regarding the way he speaks to her.

I liked some of the author’s other books but this one just isn’t for me

Very Bad

I didn’t even get started with this book to know it’s terribly written and I have no interest in a man who doesn’t use a condom with a one night stand. The author thinks it’s ok for the male lead to tell his current gf that he impregnated the one night stand and it meant nothing because he didn’t call her after. Then he has the audacity to breakup with the female lead. The female lead is so hurt rather than pointing out he raw dogged it. That immediately tells me he’s done it before. No self respecting woman wants that D. GROSS 🤢! But then again the author didn’t write the female lead as a self respecting woman.

okay i have been kind of on a roll of picking somewhat decent books that i actually enjoy reading, so we all knew it would come CRASHING DOWN at some point or another. this book was a recommendation in an author i am obsessed with newsletter, and so my expectations were HIGH. and this book…fell short.

jake and harlow are 18 and 21 and have been dating for FOUR MONTHS, and he ends up ending the relationship because he just found out he’s going to be a dad. flash forward 7ish years, jake is raising his daughter sydney as a single dad because the mom isnt in the picture and harlow is working in town as a dance instructor. the way that these two are set up is meant to be almost an enemies, bickering and putting down kind of scenario. they both jab at each other with words, and it’s obvious their history negatively impacts their relationship. when harlow begins working at roosters, jakes place of solitude and favorite bar, they two end up spending more time together in the last 7 years.

the way that these two started hanging out more seemed forced and not feasible. sydney and harlow already had a relationship because of their dance classes and NOW all of a sudden sydney wants to hang out with her all the time and jake goes with it???? and jake, who claims that this woman is baiting him and slithering her way into his life, VOLUNTARILY GOES TO CRASH HER DATE IN A NEIGHBORING TOWN???? like make it make sense???

their relationship progression was also wack. they sleep together (kinda), he brushes her off, she ignores him, he apologizes and says the only relationship they can have is through sydney, they are semi-friends, he says he wants more and he knows he has to prove himself??? BOY. YOUVE BEEN AN ASSHOLE FOR 7 YEARS YOU NEED TO GROVEL YOUR ASS OFF.

HARLOW FORGIVES HIM WAYYYY TOO QUICKLY. like she basically is like win me back, he gives her a bouquet of KIT KATS, and she goes ok i love you again and never stopped 💗💗💗💗💗 girl bffr

anyways, i’m glad this book was only 250ish pages because if it was longer it would have been a DNF

quotes i highlighted (and not in a good way):
-“i’m going to make stars dance in your eyes.”
MEN DONT TALK LIKE THIS AND IF THEY DID, immediate ick. IMMEDIATE. ICK.
-“another impatient knock demands entrance as I finish my bathroom business. A lady can’t halt mid-stream to welcome uninvited company.”
WHAT WAS THE REASONNNNN.

things to note:
-his nickname for her is PITCHY, as in SHE SINGS OFF PITCH. if a man nicknamed me that i would cut his leg off.
-the 7 year old did not act like a 7 year old - at times she seemed age appropriate and at times she seemed super young???

Small town, big feelings!

Being in a single dad in a small town is both a blessing and a curse for Jake, especially with his ex (and the girl that he let get away) right under his nose and still out of reach.

His whole world revolves around his little girl, Sydney, and being the only parent in her life makes it hard for him to trust or believe he’ll ever end up happy. So he does his best to be a giant a-hole to the only woman he’s ever been in love with to save himself and his daughter a world of hurt.

No matter how much he and Harper bicker, they’re still drawn to each other like magnets, and seeing how much Sydney loves her (and how much Harper loves her right back) makes keeping Harper at a distance even harder.

I absolutely loved Harper, Jake, and sweet little Syd! Watching Jake come to terms with his feelings and realizing how much being apart from Harper is not only hurting himself but Sydney too, had him finally coming to his senses.

Despite how grumpy and downright awful he’d been in order to put distance between himself and Harper, he ends up being so damn swoonworthy and sweet. I loved that their story is not your typical romance, and will definitely read more from Harloe in the future!

I don’t even know where to begin. The dialogue between the daughter and literally anyone else was so unrealistic and cringey. It was meant to be cute and endearing but it ended up being ridiculous. I really held out until about 78% through, and then when they finally get together (intimately) the FMC SINGS that’s right SINGS a country song as he enters her 😭😭 I had to close the kindle app and do some reflecting.

The worst Harloe Rae book I’ve ever read.

Jake and Harper just start dating when he breaks up with her bc an ex of his is pregnant. Book starts years later and i thought maybe Harper had left town then came back but NOPE. She got to see him & his lil family (he eventually becomes a single dad) while also being treated like absolute SHIT by Jake the whole time. Harper also got to be the daughters ballet (I think) teacher. Jake does a complete 180 and decides to stop hating Harper (I ask again for WHAT DOES HE EVEN HATE HER FOR!!! HE did HER dirty not vise versa!!) and they become a happy family. Harper never had any hatred for Jake, not really. This whole book just pisses me off every time I think about it

wanted to DNF

I don’t know how this book has soooo many good reviews.

First it doesn’t give any real detail on why he’s so mean to her. The FMC starts off sooo strong and realizes she deserves better. Then the second they get into the actual book, she turns into a pick me girl/ girl with a crush who never got hurt by the guy.

Then out of no where he asks her if he can go down on her. Literally completely out of left field. It wasn’t the time or the place, and just didn’t fit in with the story.

Then when they finally get together, he asks her to sing while they do it…..buddy if she can focus on singing and the song, you’re doing something wrong.

I struggle with criticizing someone’s hard work, because frankly…everyone is out here doing their best. And it’s no secret that writing a book is hard work. So, take this with a grain of salt…

This book was not for me. It is the only book I’ve read where I genuinely contemplated not finishing it, but I’m not a quitter. I kept going and it got more and more bizarre.

There were several lines that were extremely odd. There were some strange terms used, and the child played a major speaking role here….in a very…odd way.

Then there’s the intimate scenes. Twice it came out of absolutely nowhere. There was singing during sex. There was sex on complicated machinery? There was the bizarre ultimatum of her either agreeing to have sex with him without a condom, or no sex at all.

Which is baffling considering how he even got into his predicament.

This went from one extreme to the other when it comes to character behavior. One minute he hates her, the next minute he’s “claiming” her, and she’s just there for it. No big deal, just treated you like garbage, but it’s fine because he was only intolerable because he loved you.

And at warp speed, you will now become a girlfriend who is expected to replace an absent mother. Then you’ll get proposed to in like a week, and unveil your pregnancy with chocolate syrup in the middle of a jarring sex scene that came out of nowhere.

Jumping into a Harloe Rae book is like settling in for a movie night with your BFF. You laugh hysterically and possibly shed a few tears. You feel content simply sharing space with them. You’re left on a euphoric high with a full heart, grateful for the time you were gifted and eager to do it again.

This one combines small town, single parent and second chances, so prepare to swoon! If two people were ever meant to be, it was Harper Wilson and Jake Evans. They were young and in love and had hopes and dreams of a future together, until fate stepped in and split them apart. Harper tried to move on with her life. She went to college and eventually returned to Knox Creek to open a dance studio with her best friend. Jake, on the other hand, turned into a grumpy, bitter old man before the age of 30. The one ray of sunshine in his miserable life is his young daughter, Sydney.

The adorable, effervescent Sydney loves ballet. It's her favorite thing, so much so that she dances her way through the day. And she loves her teacher, Miss Harper. Of course, you know that means Harper has no choice but to interact with Jake on a regular basis, right?

Part of me wanted to say, “forget about Jake" and focus solely on Harper and Sydney, because they're absolutely amazing together. So dang cute they made my heart grin. But I’ll say one thing for grumpy Jake. Once he quits fighting himself and decides he's in, he's all in. Now he just has to convince Harper he's serious.

Oh my heart, this one is so freaking sweet! Sydney is her own person who steals every scene she's in, and I loved all of the interactions between her and the adults in her life. Then there’s the small town with its colorful characters and their propensity for being in Jake's business. Poor guy couldn’t catch a break, and it provides endless entertainment. And best of all, the second chance.

Jake and Harper have to heal old wounds and learn to trust each other again, and their bumpy road to forever is glorious! Funny, heartfelt, steamy, and poignant, this one made my romantic heart blissfully ecstatic. If you’re looking for your next happy-sigh-inducing read, you've found it here. One of my all-time favorite reads from this talented wordsmith, this is one you absolutely won’t want to miss!

I have no words… ok maybe just one. SWOON.

I freaking loved this book. Jake & Harper have a past, both of them still harboring feelings they are trying to ignore, even six years later. She’s the one that got away & he’s the one that broke her heart. But even years later, they can’t deny the pull that they still have on one another & that’s not easy to avoid living in a small town.

Jake is the ultimate grumpy, possessive, smooth talking, dirty man there is. He had me melting into a puddle every single time he was with Sydney. & The way he would literally do anything for Syd & Harper… There’s nothing I love more than a grumpy man who is only sweet for his girl — in this case girls 🥹🫶🏼

Harper was so good with Syd & I just loved seeing their dynamic. I really loved how truly honest Harper was with not only Jake but Sydney as well. She never shied away from her feelings or what she wanted.

I do wish we would’ve gotten a little more insight as to why Jake was so harsh towards Harper during the years they spent apart. But nonetheless, he did everything in his power to win her back & he was truly swoon-worthy 😍 Their banter was so good throughout the whole book & their chemistry was undeniable!

The ending had me so emotional but in the best way possible. Overall, it was such a cute & steamy read. It was my first book I’ve read by the author & I can’t wait to read more!

Thank you to Harloe & her team for sending me the ARC & allowing me to review. I highly recommend this book if you love:

- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Second Chance

This was a sweet and very low to no angst grumpy/sunshine read. Harper was dumped by Jake many moons ago and both have been doing their best to avoid each other until Harper gets a job at the local watering hole.

She also happens to be Jake’s daughters dance teacher where they have done their best to avoid each other in that capacity, as well.

Honestly, the build up was fun, the jokes and banter were witty and Syd (Jake’s daughter) was adorable but there was no skin in the game. Nothing to fight for at all. The Hero went from hating the Heroine (which I don’t understand because he dumped her and HE got another girl pregnant) to pursuing her because she was the one and nothing would get in his way.

I was bored and skimming pages by the last third of the book. It was like “get together already” and just when I thought we had some drama at the end it was just three adults being all grown up and mature about shit. This is a me problem obviously 😂

Two things that made me laugh at how ridiculous they actually were:

1. Out of nowhere, he asks “to eat her out” even though they don’t like each other?
2. The first time they make love he asks her to sing to him, while he was inside her?

The book was also incredibly boring!!!

This had a lot promised and mostly delivered.

Yup, the fella really had issues with almost everyone...except his little girl. He devoted himself to her and had been burnt with the woman who was her mother. She was no longer in the picture but the damage she did was there in his mind and heart.

A past love was the key and the little girl was adorable. A quick turnaround and HEA.

I do not know where to start with this review! The beauty packed within this books pages is perfection! Harloe starts off with a brutal bang, leaves us drenched in angst then pulls out a show stopper because when Jake sets his mind something, he makes it happen!

Harper and Jakes romance is not an easy, it’s not a typical love story but it’s theirs and the journey to their HEA is a long one but one that shows you the beauty of love even at it’s darkest times! Harper is a light to everyone in their small town! She radiates beauty, strength and has enough sass to go toe to toe with the grumpy mechanic!

Jake is everything Harper is not, except when it comes to the apple of his eye! He saves his sweetest moments for Syd and will do anything he can to show her how truly loved she is! The one problem, Syd just wants to be around Jake’s nemesis! The more time these two spend together the more trouble they may find themselves in!

What I love about Harloe’s romances is how well I connect with them! Now don’t get me wrong I love sports romance and billionaires but it’s nice to read a romance that has your run of the mill every day people! The characters that hold jobs like me and others I know! It helps me to become a part of the world because they are easily someone I could know! Harloe’s romances never disappoint and always hit me right in the heart, Wrong For You is my favorite of Harloe’s and in my mind it’s her best work to date!! This story will stay with me forever!

This book will forever be a favorite of mine. I 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 ready for all the emotions I was going to feel. It was a nice slow burn for me & then BAM 🥵 SPICE.

I SWOONED so hard over Jacob. The 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓 grumpy single dad who’s a complete softy only for his little girl, Sydney. Devoted father who had to step up to the plate. Who doesn’t want that!?! 😍

I seriously loved how direct & open Jake was with Harper. No matter the situation. That’s where the witty banter comes in 😅 Those two could’ve gone on & on with each other lol.

Syd 100% stole the show. That little girl totally reminds me of my daughter and how she mirrors everything I say and do 😂 Syd starts falling for “Harpy” & starts asking lots of questions. Questions Harper has a hard time answering without wanting to complicate things for Jake.

Once Jake 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 realizes what he lost and that he wants Harper back, he stopped at nothing to get her and proved to her that he was truly sorry for the past. But that past comes back and no one is ready for what they think is about to happen.

I’m so thankful for the opportunity to read an ARC and give my honest review.

This grumpy/ sunshine , second chance romance pulled on all my heartstrings. From heartbreak, to some serious sexual tension, tons of witty banter and a 6 year old that acts way older than she is. I was completely enamored with this book. Harper and Jacob know how to push each others buttons. Jacob’s a grumpy a-hole to her, she sasses him right back. Harper doesn’t put up with any of his crap and I’m here for it. The way these 2 bantered back and forth throughout the book, had me grinning ear to ear. Throw in cutie Sydney and my heart just melted. This little girl has such a big heart and would love nothing more than for her daddy to marry Miss Harper and she will do anything go get these 2 together. She is cheeky, and full of energy and has her daddy wrapped around her little finger. I really enjoyed this book and the journey we got to see these 3 go on. As much as Jacob broke Harpers heart at the end of high school, I’m glad she made him work to mend their relationship and didn’t just take him back because he was sorry. It made him get his head out of his ass and realize that all along they were indeed not wrong for each other 😉
