Meet twelve incredible women from Nepal whose lives have been transformed by God. Nepali women are among the most dispossessed and downtrodden in the world. Thanks to traditional customs and religious rituals, many face ordeals unimaginable to those living in the developed world. Anna Townsend invites you to meet twelve women and discover their astounding stories. Among them is Kopisha, whose infant daughter died due to the neglect of her own family; Suki, the mother of a human trafficking survivor; and Maria, forced to marry her rapist. Poignant, shocking, but ultimately inspirational, you will be encouraged to see how God is at work in these women, changing their lives and giving them a more hopeful future. Content These poignant stories will open your eyes to the plight of women in Nepal, but also encourage you to see that God is moving around the world and that his church is growing.
I am an English Christian author currently living in Belgium. As a military wife I have been fortunate to live in Nepal for four years and as a consequence set up and now run the charity Women Without Roofs - Nepal. We help vulnerable women survive by providing a home and paying for medical bills so that they are secure and healthy and can provide for their families. Much of the story of how I came to set up WWR is contained in my book Destination: Transformation, published in 2015. In 2023 I released a book about Christian women in Nepal titled 'Come with me to Kathmandu: Finding out what God is doing among women in Nepal'. This book was published with Authentic Media. I am currently working on a book about Christian girls and women in Pakistan.
Wow - what an absolutely amazing book. Anna Townsend is a talented author who pens here the life stories of 12 impoverished Nepalese women she has come into contact with through her work with the non-profit ‘Women Without Roofs - Nepal’ (WWR). Each story opens your eyes to the realities (some of them brutal) that these women have faced and their incredible life journeys, culminating in their improved life conditions from contact with WWR and/or finding God. Anna Townsend interweaves her own experience of living in Nepal throughout the book, along with historical, political and cultural details of Nepal to provide rich context. This is a must-read book for those wanting to know about the life realities of women in Nepal/South Asia.
Important stories of hardship, survival, and overcoming are shared. I appreciate the author's recognition that the stories would be told better by the women themselves and this is only a start to sharing the life of a Nepalese Christian woman. However, it felt too much like I was a third party as a reader. I didn't feel immersed into their worlds.
