Sharon Heller, the author, is evidently biased in writing this book. Her negative disposition towards Freud and his ideas are quite sensible.

This book was more educational than entertaining, but freud was quite an interesting person. A lot of his theories i had to disagree with though. Some were pretty foolish and unsympathetic, and he was pretty sexist. I don't think i'd like him as atherapist, because he seemed to make the patients say (or twist their words around) what he wanted to hear and what would make his theories legitimate. But we do owe some thigns to him. the therapies that we see conducted today were founded by him and some of his theories made a lot of sense, There was a lot of irony in his life though... and i think anyone who wants to be a psychologist has to look into this book. It's written in a way thats easy to understand, which is good because the content can get pretty complicated.

It's been a long time since I read this book but as other readers have said, I recall it's really more of a documentary. I still remember the story about one of Freud's Patients, a soldier who had been exposed to an ancient ritual of Chinese torture, involving a base full of hungry rats.

Great read!

Ymm Wonderful. Anything to make my hero, Dr. Sigmund Freud, clearer to me. For a "semi" layperson such as myself, Sharon Heller clarifies many simple concepts of psychoanalytic thought.

As always, the future lies in examining and understanding the past.

Freud was one strange duck. This book was really illuminating. It simply explained all of Freud's history, theories, and cases in plain language. I definitely felt much smarter after reading this book.
