The System is broken
A Culling is coming

After surviving a harsh winter, Eli finds himself in a unique situation when a long-lost dungeon is discovered on the property. It could be the perfect proving ground for the students who have earned their Class, but it could also become their tomb.

It also doesn't help that the town of Last Stop is in danger. The Edgelands are creeping in and gobbling up entire cities overnight. With nowhere else to take the children, it's up to Eli to come up with a solution to both problems that only a Master Enchanter could accomplish. With the love of a few good women by his side, anything is possible.

Starts slow, Gets better
I like where this series is going.
Ah but what is it? Harem, Sex scenes, Gamelit. OP-MC.
This harem series deals with more than the average power fantasy. This is a guy with PTSD who doesn't want to get stronger or be a bigger bad ass. This guy wants to rediscover his humanity and find his way back from the edge. Not the usual fare.
Having a book with this many kid characters and sex scenes seems less creepy this time around. In some ways book 2 seems better balanced than book 1, and I'm even more intrigued with the mystery of the system and what it means for this world.

Another winner for Hawthorne and Knightley

I was an admirer of the first book in this series. A slice of life from people who had been through a world changing event and came through the other side? Sounds horrible! And from two writers who were known for their porn? Couldn't be any good, but as I read the book I found out how wrong I was! The first book was wonderful! From a harem novel that had a small following of like minded pervs such as myself I was amazed to discover that the pair of writers had produced a moving, romantic story that should appeal to all fantasy fans who enjoy slice of life type books, even the romance fans who like the reverse harem genre.
I was happy that the writers choose to produce another story
about Eli and the girls. And having read it I found it to be as good as the first one! I found myself returning to orphanage, to read about the kids, Eli and the girls, and to look forward to even more as the third book lurks on the horizon!
All I can say about this book is MORE, MORE, MORE!

With so many bland books out right now, this is one I was looking forward to. A great development on the first book, we get more background on the main characters and an interesting look at the System in this world.

This has expanded the scope of the story enough for the next two planned books, so I am confident we have some more good stuff coming our way. Really can't say a lot more without spoilers, so if you have read the first one, read this one too. If you haven't read the first one yet, get on that.

Truly in my top best series of all time. I can't get enough, thank goodness, the next one is waiting for me right now.

Master Class 2 by Annabelle Hawthorne and Virgil Knightley - 3/5 stars

First and foremost, I want to state that I am not an author. I have no idea what it takes to write a book. I am a consumer with an OPINION, and only an opinion, based on my life experiences.

As someone who wasn't initially a fan of Annabelle Hawthorne's solo works (sorry, Annabelle, that a no-name person on the net is not a fan), I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed Master Class Vol 1 and Vol 2. This came after DNF'ing the "Home for Horny Monsters" series, which didn't resonate with me.

I picked up Master Class on a friend's recommendation, and I'm glad I did. This is an adult harem-based book with a somewhat reluctant but very willing MC.

Unlike many LitRPG books that start with low-level characters, the MC here has already lived, leveled, and bypassed the early stages, starting off around level 100. This refreshing approach allows for a different kind of story development. The book blends action, adventure, and slice-of-life elements, with a strong focus on character development. The main characters run an orphanage, which adds a unique and heartwarming dimension to the story. There's a good balance of action and day-to-day life, making it feel more grounded than some other entries in the genre.

While sex scenes are present, they seem to fit the narrative naturally, unlike some books where they feel forced or unnecessary. (For an example of unneeded sex scenes or ones that don't fit the narrative, see "Monster Girl Farm: A Farm LitRPG Story" by Simon Archer - though overall, I loved the world building in that book). The one thing I remember most about this book is the conflicted nature of the MC. It's more nuanced than typical power fantasy LitRPGs, but still maintains the elements that make the genre enjoyable. Overall, I enjoyed the book enough to look forward to book 3, though I probably won't reread it. It's a solid entry in the adult LitRPG harem subgenre that I'd recommend to fans looking for a mix of orphanage management, character development, and adventure.

5 stars - Exceptional, life-changing, or will reread multiple times
4 stars - Highly enjoyable, likely to reread, would recommend
3 stars - Decent read, might not remember long-term
2 stars - Not for me, struggled to finish
1 star - Poorly written or factually incorrect

Okay, normally I will write a review at the end of the series and give a cumulative review of the series… I do this out of the kindness of ,y heart 😂 since Amazon will destroy your account for posting honest reviews. All it takes is for one person to cry a couple times and boom. No more reviews. No matter how high your review score, no matter if you had over 1200 reviews…. 🤬😡 that being said Virgil and Annabelle have truly written a masterpiece. It’s very odd to have a series start after a war and to have the apocalypse routed but now face a new cataclysm… it’s brilliant.but the reason I’m writing this is to just say man, I absolutely love Mayari! I’ve lost count how many times this sweet lil angelic cyclops oni hooman 😉 has made me laugh. Each one of these kids have a unique personality and the authors truly have created such a phenomenal world for us to discover and read about. You actually grow with the children of this series. It’s truly sweet and I love every second of it. This book was quite telling and wow such a cliffhanger… but also I’m panicking because are we getting three books or four? 😓😰😖😤…I am definitely crossing my fingers for four books! This series is simply amazing.

I really enjoyed this book. Elias is a really interesting main character, dealing pretty believably with his PTSD left over from the war. I've recently read some unsuccessful attempts at tackling these kinds of mental health issues, and this feels much more convincing and compelling. Elias tries to put a facade over his problems, but they are omnipresent and unconsciously colour everything he does.

Mayari is a charming little girl who just works for me because she reminds me of my own daughter at that age - those amazing years when they are able to really start expressing themselves and observing the world around them but arrive at these hilariously incorrect conclusions about how things work. When Mayari talked about the Boners running around, it reminded me of my daughter standing in a department store, putting index finger horns on her head and charging me, yelling at the top of her lungs that I should "WATCH OUT FOR THE HORNY ANIMAL!!!"

Lastly, the harem elements were there, but I didn't find them to be that intrusive. The gratuitous sex was present, but there were just 2 or 3 instances of it, and it felt like even the author just added them begrudgingly because they had to.

I am definitely moving on to the third book.

Good sequel

Alternate universe, Magic, LitRPG, harem adult situations, dystopia, mix POV and 3rd person

Been a while since I've read a story with sex scenes marked so those readers who don't like adult content can skip past those parts, but this book has them.

It's a medieval dystopia in that the world war has caused the main countries to collapse and bandit warlords a vying to create competing fledgling states. But that's all off stage.

The MC is Elias Hearthsong, and he is the toughest adventurer around, but after years of war, he has PTSD, though in well-marked 3rd-person chapters, we get an expanded view of the story.

In this book, there's a dungeon, a monster culling, and a surprise murder, and people are worried that the System that runs their world may be too damaged to recover, leading to a system reset where everyone dies and a new world is created. Intriguing premise, and at over 400 pages, it's a lot of story for the price, and it's engaging. Enjoyed. Looking forward to book 3, and hope there's a book 4.

I read a lot, but am not so good with reviews.
I have enjoyed reading books by both of these authors.
This is the second book in a series where the hero is a soldier who is tired of killing and has landed as an owner of a orphanage. He is learning to regain his humanity that was nearly lost in the demon war.
The demons destroyed all the dungeons, unknown to all, the dungeons provide some stability to the realm. Now the beasts of the wild are taking over the civilized lands.
Due to this, the impaler must return, fortunately he is loved.

It was mentioned that with reviews there might be another 2 books, else only one, since I enjoy the story more than I hate leaving reviews, well, here we are.

Elias and crew continue to improve and expand their orphanage, as meanwhile, the Edgelands creep further into what is left of civilization. They also rediscover the most accommodating dungeon of all time in their backyard. I do like this story and I continue to be invested in the characters for the most part. Despite Elias's history of being a stone cold and reliable killer in war, he always seems remarkably fragile in the present (consistently living in a glass case of emotion in spite of possessing the willpower to routinely mutilate and torture himself for his magic). I do find it pretty annoying that every time Elias activates an enchantment the authors include the full (at minimum) half-page description (really pads the word count which could have been used for more and better explicit scenes).

Rating 4.0 stars

Not quite as good as the previous book but still pretty good. Things progress. It is still a slice of life harem story. The focus is on life and not magic or fighting though there is a decent amount of both of those. I was a expecting a little more sex scenes with the setup. I mean he has 2-3 women that are head over heels for him and one of them has this thing that is makes her hotter to share. You would think there would be non stop sex in this book. That would be erotica and not a slice of life story though. Still I think there were only 3 scenes in the story and I thought there would be more. That sounds weird to say. Not a complaint just an observation.

My Rating System:
5- Perfect for my taste, I could not physically stop reading/listening and wanted more afterward.
4- Almost perfect, could not stop reading/listening, probably wanted more afterward.
3- I enjoyed the book and could see others loving it, I need to think if I want more.
2- I can see why others might like the book, but I could not, I do not want more.
1- What is this? What went wrong? Why did they do this? This doesn't make any sense! (No idea who it is for, but definitely not for me).

GOAT read

If you enjoy Annabelle and Virgil separately then Master Class will blow you away. I shouldn't have doubted these two, but they have crafted a tale and world beyond anything I could've imagined. The story is at once wholesome, horny, philosophical, action packed, emotional, and whimsical. Best slice of life litrpg harem out there. Love may not heal all old wounds, but it is a reason to get up in the morning.

Great Story!

Having read the first and now the second in this series, the plot flows perfectly. The books are well written and they grab your heart strings very well. The characters are well developed and have a depth to them that makes them easy to love, especially the Oni/Hooman little girl! This is a Great Story and I can’t wait to read the next chapter. Please keep up the good work.

Amazing book 2

Book 2 starts right after book 2 ends and honestly moves a long a little slowly to start. But man oh man. When it ramps up it does zero to 100.
The fight scenes are incredible and honestly the Impaler would be interesting series to read on his own during the height of the war. A nice prequel series. Hint, hint.
Absolutely going to preorder book 3 so we can get a book 4

The authors do a nice job of picking characters and situations that get you invested in the story as a fantasy story with the romance and smut as a bonus. The kids aren't perfect and are charming, Eli is an easy hero to get behind with mental scar tissue that keeps him from being annoyingly perfect, and the female leads are all an appealing mix of likeable and capable. I liked the shift to bring Last Stop a bit more into this one and tie it with the orphanage.

What a Great Story

Eli and the harem, expand the orphanage why Kay delivers 12 new children. The action and adventure are intense when the Edge Culling goes wrong and the orphanage is attacked. Eli is learning slowly to bring his parts together. The ending has an incredible surprise! This is an excellent series that I strongly recommend!

LOVED this story

This book left me feeling so good about the main character’s love and care for the orphanage children and the staff that worked there. It was so cool to see the transformation of the warrior to the father figure and the cool way he used his magic to make the orphanage better. Can’t wait for book 3!

Great story but ...

Seriously could use the removal of descriptions in all the skills used. We really don't need to rehear what a skill is every time he uses it. Just once or so every couple of chapters would be more than enough to remind us what the skill is and what it does. Otherwise it just gets repetitive. Other than that, I love the story and I love the voice actors

sweet and emotional

I did not expect this series to make me cry as much as it has, but here we are apparently. Like the previous book, master class 2 brings a level of depth and complexity to the main cast and supporting characters. The romance is grounded and natural, and the bonds the characters form with each other are equal parts heartwarming and heart wrenching.

A straight continuation of the story started in Master Class, this second part of the series features more of the same, but also surprisingly a dungeon (which is standard fare in lit rpg stories but presented here in quite a novel way) and a bit more focus on the world around the orphanage, including combat against the encroaching 'edge of the world'. Again a very nice story.

Masterful addition to the series

This installment had just right blend of slice of life at an orphanage, dungeon runs, and romance. Mayari, was so cute in the way she interacted it reminded me of other little girls. I would highly recommend this book and can’t wait for book 3

Great story

This has been a fantastic story that is mostly stuck to a very calm and fun day-to-day life of characters. But it is kept itself interesting with amazing moments of romance and character depth. Can't wait for next time to come out!

This is a great book. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. Normally, I can predict what an author will do. Not so with these two. I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Not bad

Started real slow but it picked up about halfway through the book. Ending was pretty funny. And its a good ending, story lines concluded heroes at a good resting place and a few subtle hints for the next book. This is what an ending should be.

Good books!

It seems like every collaboration between an author and Annabelle Hawthorne is a series that I really enjoy. I also liked the pictures interspersed throughout the books.
