Feel-good summer reading from the Irish Times #1 bestselling author. 'If you miss Maeve Binchy, bestseller Hill will cheer you up...' DAILY RECORD.
The summer season is on the way, and the small community of Lakeview is braced and ready. The weather is warm, days long and bright and Ella, the proprietor of the town's ever-popular cafe, is looking forward to tidying up the patio area, dusting off the outdoor seating and welcoming the first of the summer visitors, whose arrival always creates some drama…
Grace likes the idea of spending summer days in a pretty summer cottage by the lake, but she’s not so enamoured of being there alone with four-old twin boys in tow. Her husband is much better at managing them, but he needs to stay on in Dublin for work. Can she cope on her own?
Author Sam is in town to finish his hotly-anticipated new novel. But he can't help getting distracted by Lakeview's many charms; pretty waitress Nina in particular.
Marianne hopes that lazy days of summer might help husband Donal forget about the pressures of work. But when he ends up paying more attention to his laptop than to her, she realises something has to give.
Ella Monroe is the pen name of authors Maz Rauber and Amy Reingold. Maz grew up in Australia and was a New York Post reporter before turning to fiction-writing. In her previous life, Amy was a Cordon Bleu trained chef and textile artist. After leaving her Midwestern hometown, Amy moved to Chicago, London, and Hong Kong. Both of us now live in Washington D.C., where each of us raised two kids. Maz loves to garden, doodle, kayak, walk her dog Aussie, and eat Amy's desserts. Not just a baker, Amy also designs one-of-a-kind coats. She loves her family, her dog, Zoe, her talking birds, Newman and Sadie and her caffeine habit. We're both incorrigible politics junkies and are hooked on YA fiction.
Sweet storylines and good characters, quaint town of Lakeview where many lessons were learned. The negatives were the misspelled words throughout. Kind of distracting. Not sure I want to pay for the next one in this series with the grammar and spelling mistakes. Do you have a proofreader? I would like to send the author, Melissa Hill, the list of mistakes I found.
Summer at the Heartbreak Café: A Lakeview Novel is by Melissa Hill. This novella introduces us to the Lakeview series which is set in Ireland. This is a refreshing novel that looks at love in its many toles. It shows how the Heartbreak Café seems to have magical powers in the area of love. Ella runs the Heartbreak Café. During the autumn, winter, and spring, she is usually at the café on her own except for her loyal cook. However, during the summer, she must hire help which she does in the form of Nina. Nina uses summer to make a little extra money to use to raise her son, Patrick. While she is working, he stays with her Father. This arrangement works for both Ella and Nina. This summer, Sam Crosby, a writer, comes to Lakeview to hide in one of the cottages and write for the summer. He hopes being in the cottage will bring back his creative voice. As a very handsome man, he attracts the attention of Nina and her friend Emma. Nina doesn’t feel she has a chance with beautiful Emma around and having a young son to contend with; but she offers her friendship. Emma tries her best to get Sam, even if she is obvious about it. Grace Carter and her husband intended to spend two weeks in Lakeview with their twin four-year-old boys. Their nanny, Marie will be visiting her Mother at the same time. When Ken has to stay home for work, Grace is persuaded to take the boys and go to Lakeview. She is terrified. What if something happens to the boys? What if she gets sick? She if very nervous around her boys. Who is dreading the journey more- Grace or the boys? Marianne and her husband Donal came back to Lakeview to the place where he proposed to revive their marriage. However, it isn’t possible if Donal doesn’t stay off his phone or internet. What will Marianne do? The four stories all intertwine at the Café.
If you're looking for a light hearted, quick, easy chick lit type book, this definitely delivers. I've never been let down with a Melissa Hill book in that regard. I only wish there were fewer errors in the writing. I can usually let it go if there's just a few typos or grammatical errors, but when there's more than I can count on one hand it starts to detract from the story a bit. Just needs a little polishing.
A very light hearted story about people on vacation in a small town.
I have one problem with career-oriented men who can't seem to leave their jobs at work. Anyway, every one in the book had their issues, but managed to resolve them with help from Ella.
This is the last of the 3 free ebooks in this series. Like the others, this a light, easy, Hallmark movie-ish read that takes place in a beautiful town in Ireland.
This story is set in a holiday village in Ireland, but I didn't get a particularly Irish vibe from the setting, it seemed like it could have been set in any summer tourist town. The inhabitants seem to make a habit of trying to "fix" the summer visitors, and they seem to succeed, although at times it seems a bit preachy (mother of twins just needs to relax and enjoy her boys while giving them consistent discipline). A pleasant enough story, but not very exciting.
Reading about Lakeview and the familiar people is like coming home. While Ella is very helpful to her customers, but it sometimes seems as if she's just being nosy. I was put off by the many mistakes. I am one of those people who reads every word and found myself having to reread some sentences over and over to figure out what the author was trying to say.
