The Second Chance Convenience Store begins with a simple yet profound premise: Yoon, the owner of a small convenience store in Seoul, offers a homeless man named Dokgo a chance at redemption by giving him a job. At first, Dokgo is clumsy and unsure, struggling to adapt to the rhythms of store life. But as days pass, his quiet warmth and sincerity begin to touch the lives of customers, turning the store into more than just a place of transactions—it becomes a refuge, a community, and a mirror reflecting the struggles and small joys of everyday people.

What makes this novel so compelling is its ability to find depth in the ordinary. Dokgo, an alcoholic suffering from dementia, carries no memory of his past, yet his presence becomes a quiet force of connection. The customers, each carrying their own burdens find solace in his unassuming kindness. The convenience store, often dismissed as just another mundane stop in our busy lives, transforms into a microcosm of society, where loneliness, resilience, and fleeting human connections intersect. Originally published in 2021, in a world still reeling from the isolation of the pandemic, this story feels like a gentle reminder of the humanity we have lost and the bridges we can still rebuild.

I read this book in a week that I have to travel for work which is not ideal. I find the book to be such a slog read but later found the beauty in taking my time with it and immersed with what the book is trying to deliver. Beyond being a heartwarming tale, this book offers a subtle critique of how we navigate the world. Too often, we judge people by their surfaces: the homeless man is just another statistic, the convenience store worker merely a background figure in our daily routines. Dokgo’s character challenges these assumptions. His past, though obscured by his condition, hints at a life once as full and complex as anyone else’s. The novel forces us to confront our own biases, asking: How many people have we overlooked simply because they do not fit neatly into our worldview?

The beauty of this story lies in its quiet realism. There are no dramatic twists; just the slow, sometimes messy process of people learning to see one another. Dokgo’s growth isn’t marked by sudden epiphanies but by small, earned moments of trust. A customer who once eyed him warily begins to exchange casual greetings; the store owner, initially skeptical, starts to rely on him. These shifts feel genuine, making the emotional payoff all the more satisfying.

That is not to say the novel is without flaws. Some might argue that certain plot points feel contrived or that the ending wraps up a little too neatly. Yet, these criticisms hardly diminish the book’s impact. What it lacks in narrative perfection, it makes up for in emotional resonance. What struck me most was how the novel reframes the spaces we take for granted. This book urges us to pause, to look closer, and to recognize that even the most momentary interactions can hold meaning.

I honestly like its original, far more fitting Korean title which translates to "The Inconvenient Convenience Store" as it captures the essence of the book better. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a book that blends warmth with wisdom, one that celebrates the extraordinary in the ordinary, this is it. It is a story that stays with you, gently nudging you to be a little kinder, a little more present because you never know whose life you might be unwittingly part of.

"They say they have the right to do whatever they want, but hey, that's not how life works. Life's not meant to be comfortable and convenient all the time."

Mrs. Yeom didn't know what to make of the homeless man who found her purse, protected it from several thugs, and even refused to give back the purse until she had verified her identity.

On the one hand, she was hesitant to trust someone who clearly is homeless and likely has done unsavory things in his past...but on the other, he behaved so honorably and with such respect that she couldn't help begrudgingly admire him.

"The drive to face and overcome personal traumas shaped a persons motivations and defined their character. To reveal a character, one simply needed to show the path they choose at life's crossroads."

And so Mrs. Yeom makes her decision and allows the homeless man into her shop and provides him a meal. Through this one simple act of kindness, a second chance is born.

"But getting back on track wasn't easy, and this world wasn't the kind of place where staying on track guaranteed you'd end up somewhere good."

By trusting her instincts and providing kindness, Mrs. Yeom unwittingly sets the ball rolling and soon everyone experiences their lives becoming a tiny bit brighter.

I went into this book completely blind - I thought the title and cover looked interesting - and I took a chance...and wow. This was a beautifully done book.

Throughout this book, we follow several characters who interact with Mrs. Yeom's convenience store and with Dok-go (the homeless man who she helped). Each character has their own worries, struggles, hopes, and dreams.

We get to see how a simple act of kindness - even one as small as providing a listening ear - can make a world of difference.

I will say that after the first few perspective changes, the audience does get an idea of how the rest of the book will go but it was still a rather enjoyable ride.

Desde hace un tiempo, me gusta tener en mis estanterías libros reconfortantes, que te ofrecen calma y un buen rato, sin requerir demasiado esfuerzo por tu parte. Libros cuyo principal objetivo diría que es hacerte sentir bien a través de historias inspiradoras y que animan a seguir adelante.
 
‘La asombrosa tienda de la señora Yeom’ es, sin duda, una de esas novelas. Tiene como centro una tienda de conveniencia en Seúl, cuya dueña, una profesora de historia jubilada, mantiene más que por lucrarse económicamente por seguir ofreciendo un salario a sus empleados, que dependen de ella. Al inicio, la señora Yeom conoce a Dokgo, un hombre sin hogar y con amnesia, a quien ofrecerá trabajo a pesar de la opinión de quienes la rodean.
 
Así, aunque yo pensaba que la señora Yeom sería protagonista, esta cobra un papel secundario mientras que Dokgo y su evolución serán el centro. A través de los diferentes capítulos conoceremos a diferentes personas que, tras su paso por la tienda, su vida cambiará. No con grandes milagros, sino gracias a la interacción con Dokgo y acabarán tomando decisiones que hasta entonces nunca se habían planteado.
 
También muestra como las relaciones con los hijos una vez son adultos pueden ser complicadas, la enorme carga que supone sentirse alejado de los tuyos y bosqueja problemáticas actuales como la corrupción, las adicciones o la hipocresía.
 
Lo dicho al inicio, una historia bonita y luminosa, sin grandes giros y de estilo muy sencillo, eso sí no muy realista en algunos temas. Una novela sobre las segundas oportunidades, de esas que te deja con el corazón calentito, motivación para enfrentarte a un cambio.
 
Un libro que recomiendo mucho a aquellas personas que les gusten las novelas feelgood o necesiten un libro-abrazo en este momento.

Loved it. Even though the story could be easily predicted, I still enjoyed the storytelling and the characters. A well-written feel-good story. I also would love to see this as a tv mini-series or a stage play.

Mrs. Yeom, the aging owner of a Korean convenience store, hires a homeless man as her night shift manager, after the man returns her stolen purse. Initially seen as a bad move by her other employees, the man nevertheless proves to be surprisingly adept at his job.

Told through a series of heart-warming anecdotes, most readers will likely come away satisfied, despite the mundane, and sometimes clichéd, stories.

Like most of BookTok, I was not immune to the hype for cosy episodic South Korean novels set in convenience stores, and managed to acquire a number of them in a few months. With the current political climate, we could all use stories that run on good vibes and a cosy setting. Who wouldn't wish for their life to be changed for good, with just a few well-placed words of wisdom from the kindly shop assistant who sells them discounted yoghurt.

While I did initially intend to pace my buying frenzy, lest I got distracted by all the cute covers, I am proud to have finally cracked at least one of them open. Three cheers for reading goals running out of time, or it would have languished on my shelves for another few [insert random time period].

And luckily for me, I was in the right mindset to enjoy all the repetitive but cosy stories where customers and coworkers got a free healing therapy session. At times, it almost made me go out to the neighbourhood store, in search of a nice little chat. But then I recalled I'm Eastern European and can only stomach such a cute atmosphere in fiction.



It was a pleasant read with a gentle bit of wish-fulfilment thrown in, that had even me believe in karma for a while. That said, it never got me into the addiction phase that would lead me to finish the book in one sitting. Plus, I guess all the pandemic references (mask-wearing, social distancing, etc.) got a bit outdated by now. To be fair, the book was first published in 2021, when these things were still very relevant.

Score: 3.7/5 stars

This was one of those books that can hit all the right spots if read at the right time, which was definitely the case for me. It is, however, a type of literature that can easily drift into boring territory if it takes up too much time, as I found when I jumped straight into the sequel.

This hit hard.... I don't think I saw the slice of life trope in any books except Korean books. 8 chapters, 208 pages of wholeness. It's a cozy read absolutely worth your time!

La novela me ha dejado muy buena sensación al llegar al punto final. ¿Feel good? Oh, yes!!!

El “asombrosa” acompaña al sustantivo “tienda” en el título, pero quien me ha parecido verdaderamente asombrosa es la señora Yeom y quien ha roto el asombrosómetro ha sido Dkgo, cuya arco de personaje me ha rascado el corazoncito.

Una historia inspiradora y asombrosa. Muy asombrosa.

En el tren de camino a casa, la señora Yeom descubre que ha perdido su cartera. En ese momento, recibe una llamada de un hombre que dice haberla encontrado y acuerdan encontrarse en la estación de Seúl para que la mujer pueda recuperarla. Este hombre, que se presenta como Dokgo, vive y duerme en la calle, y la señora Yeom decide agradecerle el gesto invitándolo a comer lo que quiera de la tienda de conveniencia de la cual es propietaria. Sin embargo, lo que empieza como un simple gesto de gratitud para devolver el favor que ha recibido, acaba convirtiéndose en mucho más. Dokgo, que no recuerda nada de su pasado, parece guardar mucho en su interior, y su simple presencia ayuda a todos los que lo rodean. Parece tener un efecto sanador en los demás y consigue mejorar la vida de todo el que trabaja o pasa por la pequeña tiendecita veinticuatro horas de la señora Yeom.

“La asombrosa tienda de la señora Yeom” es un libro tierno y dulce, lleno de luz, de esos que te ayudan a reconciliarte un poco con el ser humano. Dokgo es un personaje misterioso, y mientras va recobrando poco a poco su memoria y aprendiendo de sus errores, comienza a recuperar el deseo de vivir, y su resiliencia ante las adversidades de la vida, no solo influyen en él, sino que sirve de inspiración a los que lo observan, primero con desconfianza, luego con incertidumbre y finalmente como si fuera un consejero o un maestro cuyas enseñanzas debieran seguir.

Me ha sorprendido bastante descubrir que el mensaje que Dokgo trata de trasmitir a todos siempre pasa por animar a las personas a expresarse, a que entiendan la importancia de comunicarse los unos con los otros, de entenderse, de hacer el ejercicio de ponerse en los zapatos del otro, ya que normalmente la falta de comunicación entre las personas en sociedades como la surcoreana, suele ser un tema bastante recurrente en las novelas que he leído, partiendo las problemáticas que se dan de esta dificultad para expresarse. Me ha gustado ver como Kim Ho-yeon relaciona la mayoría de los problemas que las personas padecen como consecuencia de esta.

Sé que con la literatura asiática no soy objetivo, porque me apasiona todo lo que encuentro en ella, pero, curiosamente, historias con tonos similares que podrían llegar a parecerme cursis o, incluso, moralistas, nunca me lo parecen cuando están contadas por autores asiáticos. Y es que tienen un algo especial para contar historias llenas de luz, lo hacen de una manera tan particular, que incluso para lectores como yo, que prefiero leer sobre la oscuridad del ser humano, consiguen cautivarme. En el caso de Kim Ho-yeon, me ha transmitido sentimientos tiernos y dulces, contados de una forma preciosa, dejando en evidencia cuales son las cosas realmente importantes de la vida.

Al leer la novela he entendido porque fue un éxito de ventas brutal en Corea del Sur, y es que creo que consigue trasladar esas enseñanzas y buenas energías que Dokgo le trasmite a los personajes que lo rodean al propio lector, y eso permite que este se sienta parte de ese grupo variopinto de personajes que se cruza con Dokgo y consigue, con ese breve contacto, ser más feliz. En definitiva, “La asombrosa tienda de la señora Yeom” es un novela agradable, que se devora siempre con una sonrisa en la cara, una historia que sirve como canto a la vida, para que disfrutemos de esta y tengamos la certeza absoluta de que existen las segundas oportunidades. Preparando la reseña descubrí que existe una segunda parte, esperemos que la editorial en España no tarde mucho en traerla.

“Aku teringat kenangan saat duniaku runtuh disini 4 tahun lalu. Namun, kali ini aku tidak sendirian.”

Buku ini sangat heartwarming dan berhasil membuatku nangis. Cerita tentang Dokgo, tunawisma di stasiun Seoul yang mendapatkan kesempatan bekerja di minimarket Always. Kehadiran Dokgo pada awalnya dianggap sebagai suatu penyakit, momok menakutkan yang ingin dijauhi masyarakat akibat keterbatasan dan penampilannya. Tapi, seiring dengan berjalannya waktu kehadiran Dokgo seakan menjadi penyembuh, pembawa harapan bagi teman se-pekerjaannya maupun para pembeli yang mampir ke minimarket ini.

"Minimarket adalah tempat orang-orang datang & berlalu silih berganti. Pembeli dan karyawan tanpa kecuali. Beliau tahu bahwa Minimarket adalah pom bensin bagi manusia. Di 'pom bensin' ini, aku tak hanya mengisi bahan bakar, tetapi juga memperbaiki mobilku. Jika sudah baik, aku harus pergi. Aku harus kembali ke jalan.”

Buku ini bukan hanya bercerita mengenai bagaimana Dokgo membantu para teman pekerja dan pembelinya, tapi seiring dengan berjalannya waktu juga mengungkapkan misteri di balik kehidupan Dokgo, orang seperti apa dia sebelumnya? Mengapa dia berakhir tak punya rumah dan hidup miskin di stasiun Seoul?

Cerita dalam buku ini semuanya membekas, terutama cerita Dokgo sendiri. Mungkin karena aku se-invested itu dengan karakter Dokgo and I truly admire him in a deeper level. Habis baca buku ini, aku sesak. Sesak dengan kebahagiaan dan sesak dengan seberapa banyak pelajaran yg aku dapati sehabis membaca buku ini. Buku ini berharga banget, pembaca gak akan pernah bosen membaca setiap halamannya, dan ini bukan novel biasa, ini cerita yang mungkin bisa mengubah hidupmu sama seperti Dokgo mengubah hidup orang-orang yang ditemuinya.

I myk, kolejny azjatycki tytuł wpisujący się w pewien schemat (chwytająca za serce problematyka, ujęta możliwie prosto i bezpośrednio) - odhaczony. Naprawdę doceniam, jak zgrabnie rozwinęły i "skleiły" się nagromadzone wątki. Nie potrafię jednak wykrzesać większych pokładów zachwytu - zapewne za sprawą klimatu, z którym trudno nawiązać mi bardziej emocjonalną więź 🙁

رواية لا تعتمد على أحداث مشوقة ولكنها تدور حول شخصية، وهذه الشخصية هي أساس الرواية. البطل الذي تدور حوله الأحداث هو "دوكغو" الذي لا يعرف ما هو اسمه ويجهل ماضيه أيضاً، نتعرف عليه في صفحات الرواية كما يتعرف هو على نفسه في الوقت ذاته.

تظهر الشخصيات تباعاً، تدخل في حياة هذه الشخصية شيئاً فشيء، تنفر منه في البداية إلى أن يلمس قلوبهم بفعل بسيط ولكنه دافيء.. وبالدفء أي شخص يمكنه أن يتغير للأفضل من تلقاء نفسه. هناك شخصيات ملهمة في هذه الحياة و"دوكغو" هو أحد هذه الشخصيات، يجعلك تعيد نظرتك للأشياء من حولك إلى أن تصل لطريقة يصبح الألم فيها شيء قابل التعامل معه بدلاً من الانغماس فيه حد العمى..

كالعادة تغمرني الأعمال الكورية بمشاعر أكثر من قدرتي على الإستقبال، تثقلني أحياناً بألمها وأحياناً تسعدني بلطفها..

شعرت باللطف والإلهام أنا أيضاً أثناء قراءتي للرواية إلى أن وصلت لآخر فصل وهو جزء الكشف عن الحقيقة. كان مؤلم على عكس جميع الفصول التي تسبقه. ولكن هذه هي الحياة!

Książka z wielkim urokiem, pełna prostoty, uważności i wrażliwości. Chociaż nie do końca spełniła moje oczekiwania, ale nie zmienia to faktu, że początek mocno mnie zaangażował. Dość lekka, a co więcej wzruszająca lektura, w której zakończenie chwyci za serce nie jedną osobę. Oczekiwałam może, że dotrze do mnie dużo bardziej pod względem emocjonalnym lub będzie bardziej uniwersalna, co nie zmienia faktu, że spędziłam przy niej bardzo miło czas. W niektórych momentach była zbyt przeciągnięta, co u mnie wzbudzało poczucie monotonności tej historii, więc wydaje mi się, że nieco krótsza forma sprawdziłaby się tutaj znacznie lepiej, a na pewno była bardziej angażująca dla czytelnika.

O carte minunată! Ultimul capitol, cel în care aflăm identitatea lui Dok-go, m-a rupt în două, pur și simplu!! O scriitură lejeră, cu mici perle de înțelepciune care te lovesc din senin. O serie de personaje diverse rupte direct din realitate. Și un puternic accent pe empatie și conexiune umană. Mi-a plăcut foarte mult și emoțiile pe care mi le-a stârnit m-au făcut să-i dau 5 ⭐. Nu este chef d'oeuvre, dar categoric este o carte care îți merge direct la suflet. Mai avem nevoie și de astfel de lecturi pline de speranță din când în când. ❤️

Este libro es perfecto para una tarde de lluvia, de esos que te envuelven en calidez. A medida que avanzas y conoces a los personajes, te adentras en sus vidas sin darte cuenta de en qué momento te has encariñado con ellos, y entonces no quieres que la lectura termine.

Es una historia corta, sin grandes complicaciones, pero con un profundo mensaje de resiliencia. Cada capítulo cuenta una historia diferente en la que este exindigente, sin proponérselo, empieza a transformar las vidas de quienes compran en la tienda de la señora Yeom. Su influencia les brinda una perspectiva distinta, haciéndolos reconocer sus errores y buscando enmendarlos.

Cuando vi el titulo de esta novela lo primero que pensé fue en esas típicas tiendas chinas, 24 horas que encontramos en cualquier sitio, y la verdad que no iba mal encaminada.
La novela comienza cuando un vagabundo encuentra la billetera de la Señora Yeom en la estación de Seúl. Yeom en la propietaria de una tienda 24 horas, al principio desconfía de este personaje, tiene prejuicios por las pintas y por la forma de actuar pero con el paso del tiempo queda soprendida con su comportamiento, tanto que decide darle una nueva vida, le contratará en su tienda para el turno de noche y es aquí donde de nuevo aprendera a ser humano.
A lo largo de los capítulos que componen esta novela, iremos conociendo diferentes personajes, donde nos contarán su vida, una vida que puede ser la de cualquiera, haciendo que sean capaces de pensar de otra manera.
Pero no solo viviremos las historias de otros personajes sino también la suya propia, ira recordando su pasado, un pasado que enterró durante mucho tiempo y que llego a olvidar.
La narración es muy ágil, cada personaje tiene su capítulo, decir que la traducción es muy buena y el lenguaje no es nada extraño. Una novela que te hará reflexionar y aprender de la vida de otras personas.

Selesaiiiii! Dan sukaaa 🤩🤩🤩. Sejujurnya bingung mau ngomong apa tentang novel ini 🤭. Yang pasti aku cukup suka dengan terjemahannya apalagi di bagian awal bacanya terasa ringan juga heartwarming. Aku suka karena cukup banyak quotes yang bagus. Kalau buatku pribadi novel ini isinya seperti hal-hal yang kadang bisa terjadi dalam hidup kita, meskipun nggak sering terjadi tapi paling nggak pernah terjadi, dan jadi semacam pengingat lagi barangkali aku lupa 🤭. Karena aku bingung mau ngomong apa jadi aku akan bagikan beberapa quotesnya. Seperti kata Nyonya Yeom, “Hari ini ia mendapat kebaikan dan membalas kebaikan yang ia dapat. Nyonya Yeom pun memutuskan untuk menganggap bahwa itu sudah cukup untuk membuat harinya menjadi lebih baik.”

Sinceramente, esperaba más. La primera mitad del libro es una maravilla, pero justo cuando llegué a ese 50% leído, necesitaba que cambiara un poco, que no fuera todo igual (no digo más para no espoilear) y justo cambia, sí, pero a peor.

La segunda mitad del libro se me ha hecho aburrida, sentía que se había perdido la “chispa” de la primera mitad del libro.
Y el final me ha parecido terrible, no me ha gustado nada.

Es cierto que tengo un trauma todavía no superado con todo lo relacionado con la pandemia (mi salud mental se vio muy afectada y ahí seguimos trabajando para ir a mejor), pero de todas formas me ha parecido un final flojo, muy flojo, de aprovechar ese momento histórico para dar fin a la historia, sin buscar realmente un final acorde al personaje o a la propia historia. Casi hubiera preferido un final MÁS abierto si cabe. No me ha gustado nada, una pena 😢

This book is what I mean and need when I say I want cozy healing book with the usual tropes but make you feel for the characters & deeply care for them. Its not just a simple slice of life book, its more than that, its the drama of the second chance given to them to live. A simple premise of a store owner, Mrs Yeom offered a job to a homeless man, Dokgo after he helped her from being robbed. A simple act of kindness that led to various connection of the ordinary people through the warmth of the convenience store and the man at the front of this. The Second Chance Convenience Store reads like a drama with each chapters featuring characters with their own stories to tell from Mrs Yeom, a retired teacher opens a convenience store & her struggle to maintain the store but want to protect it for her employees. Sihyeon, a part time employee on her time to sit for civil exams looking for job security, Mrs Oh whom struggled to communicate with her son after he was fired from his job, and many others

As with other similar healing fiction, this book does not shy away from the format of the loosely connected stories but what stands out about this book is the fleeting moments of ordinariness & how one man at the center lend this unexpected advices gave them the chance to find what they are looking for. A convenience store is not merely a stopover for fast food or snacks, its a space for connection, it could be a haven for others who just want a break from the chaos or stress from their job, with Dokgo, this mysterious man, a recovering alcoholic with dementia, the store is a source of comfort for some as he helped them realize things. What also interesting is the mystery surrounding Dokgo, we dont know what is his background, how he became homelese, what caused him to seek alcohol & this alcoholism induced memory loss & affected his speech. As he worked at Always Convenience Store, he slowly regained normalcy in his life & when we finally know of his past, it all made sense. We all deserved second chance in our lives, its never too late & to slow down at times. A heartfelt, comforting stories of the mundane life of ordinary people just living their best.

A mix of drama, slice of life and mystery,The Second Chance Convenience Store by Kim Ho Yeon was a story of redemption, slowing down in a busy world and forming connections in a small community. I have talked about my thoughts on the book previously and how I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I expected cozy slice of life books in the realm of the healing fiction we get nowadays but instead of the typical formulaic story, this served so much deeper than what we see on the surface. The mystery about Dokgo adds more flavour and depth to the characters we are reading, it made me feel much closer to them. At its core, this cozy inconvenient convenience store is a place of warmth and comfort, a place to find your footing and realize whats precious to you

I found that books set in convenience store interesting. Like Sayaka Murata's novel Convenience Store woman touched upon the societal issue of conforming to the society, what is normal and whats not, the repetition of works in a store gave one woman's security and she is content with it. Convenience Store by the Sea by Sonoko Machida had almost similar vibe to this book but more on the store itself and the quirks rather than the drama. While there are also the magical market in Rainfall Market, a mysterious market that only opened by a ticket which can change people's life while its not conbini, its still a charming setting for those who dreamed of changes. Another kind of book that I want to talk about is Supermarket by Satoshi Azuchi that dealt more with capitalism and the business politics of chain supermarkets, its a place people converge to buy stuffs but also a placeof workers doing their job, a pretty unique book

Kim Ho Yeon crafted a story and space where characters meet and formed connections, its a lovely book with interesting cast of characters and you will like Dokgo as a man of the forefront of the story

ME EMOCIONÓ

Libro propuesto por mi club de lectura para el mes de septiembre. Desde el inicio me llamó la atención porque jamás había leído una novela coreana y me ayudó a dilucidar un poco algunos aspectos culturales que me llamaron mucho la atención. Es una narración que en cada capítulo tiene un relato distinto, siguiendo un hilo conductor, estos relatos son muy del día a día lo que facilitó que empatizara con los personajes, por más de que pertenezcan a un contexto completamente diferente al mío.

Arranco con los pros & cons

Lo que me gustó:

🍙 Aprendí mucho con el libro sobre un país que desconocía completamente y sirvió de disparador para que continuara investigando por mi cuenta.

🍙 La evolución del personaje principal está muy bien planteada a lo largo del libro.

🍙 Hay un planteo sobre distintos valores realizados de manera muy sencilla, pero que termina enterneciendo profundamente.

🍙 Un relato en particular logró emocionarme hasta las lágrimas, valoro muchísimo los libros que me movilizan de esa manera.

🍙 Es una novela muy ligera de leer.


Lo que no me gustó tanto:

🍘 Me hubiera gustado una vuelta de tuerca más al cierre del libro.

🍘 Hubo un relato que me aburrió bastante, quizás porque la temática sobre la que giraba no me interesa en lo más mínimo.

Más allá de esto, creo que es un libro ideal para leer en los momentos que uno necesite de una lectura que sea un mimo al corazón.

Mit einem kleinen 24h-Laden "Always" bessert sich Frau Yeom ihre Rente auf. Die Geschäfte laufen nicht so gut und es reicht gerade so. Als sie ihre Tasche verliert, lernt sie einen Obdachlosen kennen, der diese für sie findet und verteidigt.
Nach anfänglichen Zweifeln lässt sie den Dok-Go genannten Mann in der Nachschicht arbeiten. Wir lernen in jedem einzelnen Kapiteln immer wieder Charaktere der Umgebung kennen und am Ende gibt es einen Twist, den ich nicht erwartet habe.
Die zunächst nett klingende Geschichte hat den Feel Good Vibe der asiatischen Literatur, die gerade nach Deutschland kommt, mit einem dunklen Twist.
Teilweise war es für mich harte Arbeit, dran zubleiben. Aber es hat mich am Ende doch bekommen.
3,5 Sterne mit leichter Tendenz zur Abwertung zu drei Sterne.

الرواية بسيطة في ��كرتها، لكنها غنية بالمشاعر الصغيرة التي تظهر في الحوارات العفوية بين بطل الرواية والزبائن. أكثر ما جذبني هو كيف أن الكلام القليل أحيانًا يقول كل شيء — جملة واحدة يمكن أن تغيّر نظرتك للشخصية أو تلمّح لماضيها.

أحببت الإحساس بالهدوء الذي تمنحه الرواية، وكأنك تقرأ في زاوية متجر صغير أثناء الليل. ليست مثالية، وبعض اللحظات كانت أبطأ مما يجب، لكن الحوارات والدفء الإنساني غطّى على ذلك بجدارة.
