Acclaimed writer Gerry Duggan continues his exciting run on Iron Man, as Tony Stark teams up with the X-Men!
Invincible meets uncanny as Iron Man and the X-Men cross paths! When the cosmically enhanced Feilong attacks the latest Hellfire Gala, it’s up to Tony Stark to save the mutants! Featuring a brand new status quo for Tony, complete with a shiny new armor!
When I first saw this volume subtitle, I groaned, but it turned out to be a lot more interesting that I presumed with this Iron Man season seeing him knee-deep in the Fall of X. Stark Industries lost, a new Hellfire Club, partnering with Kingpin, Stark himself the narrator, it looks like the rebellion is ready to rumble! OK plot, but very thin characterisations and likely key Fall of X season of Iron Man. Overall a Three Star, 6 out of 12 jam. 2025 read
Honestly not sure where this volume ends because no one has the numbers cited but I think it’s safe to say this volume has run its course. I don’t read much Iron Man but I’ve been liking his involvement with the Fall of X a lot and I’m excited to see what his overall role is by the time it’s all said and done.
I fell for it! I should have known that Emma would never REALLY go through with it. LOL
Highlights: - Both Tony and Emma are on the run after the events of the most recent Hellfire Gala. Emma just for being a mutant, and Tony because Feilong has taken over Stark Industries and is using it to manufacture Sentinels. - Tony's new stealth based armor, Mark Nil, is really awesome and allows for amazing infiltration properties. - Creating a power suppression ring for Emma to keep her off the Sentinel's trail, he is seen "proposing to her" (while she is in the disguise of Hazel Kendal, assistant to Tony) and has to go along with it to fool Feilong. - While in Vegas at the "wedding", Feilong shows up and Emma is able to read his mind, getting the information Tony needs to be able to shut down. - There is also a story about them working together to obtain some mysterium from Emma's chambers on Krakoa... I think he might be making an Iron Man suit out of it!!
Love how this has become intermingled so tightly with what is going on with the mutants. I'm already an Iron Man fan and reader, but I'll have to watch it even closer if it is tied to my beloved X-Books. LOL Recommend.
Very good series so far that ties in nicely with all the ongoing X-men business. Duggan writes a decent Tony Stark inner dialogue, but The main strength is the pacing is spot on and everything is laid out for the reader rather than ongoing madness that is prevalent in so many Marvel titles these days.
I could go for a few more volumes of this series easily
Love me a good tale where the hero is entirely outmatched and still finds a way to win against their opponent.
Love any attempt to understand or get behind the diamond facade of Emma Frost.
Kinda hate the unending narration boxes, even with the premise that Stark is writing his memoirs.
The fact that we could weave an Iron Man story into Fall of X, and it’s apparently better than half of the X books of the era, is absolutely wild to me. Good job Gerry!
Thank God not another blow out Marvel Wedding event! It turns out to be fun..blending in with the fall of X..and Tony Stark helping Emma Frost...while he has various pressing issues himself
A great book. A bit of changes throughout the book. I do prefer the artwork at the beginning of the book, but I am more than okay with it.
Tony Stark is broken physically, mentally, and emotionally. Is there any fight back left in him? If there is to protect his last few friends and "loved" ones, he will need to make a compromising deal. I am not a fan of the post Brand New Day Spider-man, but does Tony need to rip into Peter every issue?
I have really enjoyed this series so far. Both Tony and Emma play their roles perfectly. I can't wait to see the new Ironman. The setup is done. Let's have the final battle. The book finishes with a varient cover gallery.
A lot more fun and games in this one, and clever trap evasions. I think the autobiography shtik in the balloons is getting old and is probably the reason I feel within my bone guts that this is more a 3 or 3.5, but I have to give it 4 based on the overall fun I had.
This was such a fun volume, I love how it focuses on Tony as he is robbing his old company and well Rhodey gets struck and what Tony does to get his friend out and in the process runs into Emma and the race starts against Feilong and his Stark sentinels and what this couple does to evade them! I love the way the romance is build between them and they are skeptical of each other but then the trust being built as they have to hide and be on the run, the dynamics are awesome and the dialogues good too and then there is appearances by characters from other books that Duggan was writing along with this book at the time and it makes for a nice cohesive story!
And then there is the thing with their marriage and how it happens and its kinda funny and I love how KINGPIN and Feilong are in it also and their roles in it and Tony wearing his "Mark Nil" armor aka spy stuff and the way Mysterium is introduced too and another Howard stark cameo which has become a frequent fixture here and then you see what they need the element for and their big plans with it.
I love this volume as it builds out the romance between the two and also highlighting the other supporting cast members and how the villains are also rising and really building up Feilong as one of the main enemies of Tony! The art is impeccable and really flows well with the writing, truly one of the better Iron man volumes I have read!
Tony's lost yet another Stark business... Surprised?
Feilong (of Orchis infamy) now controls all the Iron Man technology patents and has styled himself as Tony Stark's new 'nemesis'. This means Stark brand Sentinels and no more Iron Man suits unless you want a cease and desist from the courts. Tony is just about at his lowest.
He tries to step in as a Sentinel makes an attempt to capture Emma Frost (just before the 2023 Hellfire Gala). Saving her life, and getting heavily concussed, Tony teams with Emma when she learns of the connection to Hellfire Gala attacks. She leverages what finances she has AND Tony's family name to get him a seat at the new Hellfire Club. There, he can work on a new suit of armor that could work around the patent blocks Feilong now controls.
....hilarity ensues. ------ This is probably my favorite piece of the Fall of X, so far. You've got a clear villain and they're marching towards a final battle. It seems faster paced than most of the Fall of X tie-ins. ------ Bonus: Look! We have a use for mysterium! It's been, what? 3 years? Bonus Bonus: James Rhodes gets some help from some unlikely sources when he's in jail. Love it.
Invincible Iron Man gives up all pretense of not being an X-Men book in disguise as Tony joins forces with Emma Frost in more ways than one in order to put Feilong in his place and help his mutant friends out as the Fall Of X drives them underground.
The beauty of having Gerry Duggan writing the main X-Men book and this one means that he can tell a much bigger story than he could have otherwise. And even though there are a lot of X-threads in this series, Duggan never moves Tony away from centre stage - his name's on the cover, after all. Riri and Rhodey are also along for the ride as much as they can be (Rhodey's still in prison), and honestly, adding Emma Frost to any book is always going to be a joy for me.
Juan Frigeri handles art for four issues here, while Andrea DiVito (who pencilled #6) heads in for one, and Ig Guara handles one as well. Frigeri's the superstar, but I think he's being pulled off for another big book soon so enjoy him while he's here.
Tony Stark enters the Fall Of X whether Orchis like it or not - but I certainly do.
This was another solid read. I think part of why I’m liking it so much is that it feels like there’s a plan and that the good guys can win. I’m enjoying the interplay with Tony and Emma quite a bit, too.
There are a couple of things that make me pause, like the timeline between the second and third Hellfire Galas, but it’s the weird comics timeline. There’s a lot happening here, and I’m just happy to see some Avengers characters trying to help the mutants in their time of need.
One other thing that bothered me is they keep talking about how limited their funds are, yet they still fly to Vegas and then to Hawaii, practically on a whim, so no “low fare calendar” checking here. Neither one of them has an actual job. I know it’s not the same level of wealth either of them has had in the past, but it’s still an extremely comfortable life, even with Fisk bankrolling them.
Good story, similar to all the "Bruce Wayne loses his fortune" stuff that happens every so often over in Batman. Tony Stark is down to just a couple of suits of armor, as Feilong has taken over Stark Industries and turned it into a Sentinel factory, some of which were sent to help destroy the mutant utopia of Krakoa. This means that Emma Frost and other surviving mutants are on the run, and as a way to keep up the disguise, she undergoes a quickie Vegas wedding with Tony, while disguised as one of his underlings. Nice tie-in to the Fall of X storyline and here's hoping that Feilong's comeuppance is on its way and will be sufficiently nasty. Nice artwork throughout this, even with a revolving panel of artists.
I see now why they included the first issue of this volume in the Hellfire Gala - Fall of X volume - The Invincible Iron Man is 100% an X-book now. Fine by me! Tony Stark and Emma Frost struggling through the Fall of X together makes for a much more interesting storyline that the previous volume's "Tony is poor and sad again" stuff.
Tony attempting to destroy Orchis (well, mostly Feilong) and they're borrowed mega-Iron-Man suits has a lot of promise. Even if the wedding deal is (of course) a gimmick, this is a fun volume that feels like a new adventure for Iron Man instead of a rehash.
So, I honestly picked this up to try to see if I could write a screen adaptation (for fun). While selecting this, I did what everyone has told me not to do my entire life: base it off it’s cover.
I’m a little disappointed that the wedding aspect was just a way to trick Fielong to be there. I would’ve love to see what an actual “Tony Stark and Emma Frost romance graphic novel” would’ve been like. Like, the crossover is so bizarre, I would’ve love to see where they went with it.
It’s still an interesting read that takes the characters and unique places. I just was tricked is all.
Also I picked this up without reading the first six parts, but I was able to follow.

This might be the closest I get to the Fall of X storyline, and I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying myself. Sure, Tony got dragged, kicking and screaming, into this fight, but at least he is involved in this latest attempt at mutant genocide. Marvel has an unfortunate history of keeping non-mutant books on the sidelines during their big events, which has the side effect of making it look like those characters aren't particularly concerned about what happens to mutants. While he's forced to get involved, his team up with Emma is extremely entertaining to read. They work really well together, and I'm actually very pleased that romance doesn't seem to be part of the alliance.
Another very decent volume of Iron Man by Duggan. It's amazing to see the difference between his performance on the X-titles - which I find mediocre at best in terms of storytelling - and Iron Man, which is quite a pleasure to read. Maybe the man isn't cut out for team titles?
In any case, Duggan writes a well-paced plot with action, suspense, a touch of humour, a dash of emotion and a vindictive Tony Stark coming up with THE plan to put Fei Long in his place.
Several artists take over the drawings, some more average than others, but overall the title holds together visually.
i've been absolutely dreading tony and emma getting married but turns out i like their platonic partnership! he's so sweet to her saving that book and everything :') without all his money and his company and ego he's not that bad of a dude.
the other x-men etc titles i've been reading lean way more crazy sci-fi so it's strange to read this and have cease and desists and IP rights or whatever stop iron man from fully iron manning
i actually don't get why emma gave all her money to kingpin of all people like why not give it to tony??? so they don't have to slum it in hawaii lmao
No idea what's going on currently in comics I just wanted to see the wedding of Tony Stark and Emma Frost. I just wanted to see how Stark bagged a bad bitch like her, it was very underwhelming though. But the actual plot of the story was cool, I kind of wanted to read on but I don't care about Iron Man. BUT this is being tied into the X-men so that is interesting. I also liked the framing of the comic as Tony's autobiography.
This actually dovetails nicely with the Fall of X which isn't a natural fit. But with Feilong and Orchis as the villains, it works. I like seeing Iron Man without all of his money and gadgets. The wins feel more earned this go around. I like how Tony and Emma Frost seem to despise each other in private as well. Good stuff.
Emma and Tony are _so_ charming together that this is a marriage that you want to see last for the long-run. (Sadly, I suspect it's over and forgotten as soon as Duggan's run ends, as the idiot editors at Marvel look like they're throwing the entirety of Krakoa into the wood-chipper.) Beyond that, it's a nice side tale for Fall of X, every bit as important as the main events.
Another strong Fall of X book as characters on the run make for more compelling reading than gods who can do anything. Emma and Tony are a great pair and the art suits it well (though I'm still not a fan of how he draws Tony's hair)
This one’s fun. Duggan’s clicked with writing Tony Stark, which can be a hard character to have a fresh take on while staying true to who he is. But the close connection the X-men titles/ events keeps it fresh enough while replaying some of the same Iron Man hits we’ve read a dozen times.
