I didn’t want the novel, The Mandarin Rose, to end. I really felt I knew the characters in the story, felt a certain kinship, and wished to be with them as life continued to unfold for them.
Ms. Aishwariyaa Ramakanthan has done a wonderful job of developing the key players by giving each of them a unique quality or trait which makes them very relatable.
The story spans 3 generations starting in WWII to the present times in Malaysia and Singapore. The main protagonist Rose finds purpose in her business, as she navigates life’s ups and downs! This is the main thread that runs through the novel.
The story is gripping, entertaining and a great read. The writing flows, the details provide great texture and make the scenes stand out. The flashbacks are well done.
One more thing. By adding unexpected twists, Ms. Ramakanthan keeps you wondering what might happen next!
Overall, a very enjoyable story to read. Can't wait for the next novel.
