Born into post-WWII affluence and brought up on-stage, I ended my youthful dreaming by living in communes and artists' colonies before returning to university. There I was like a sponge, absorbed in my studies and thrilled to graduate with honors.
I finally obtained my first degree after interrupted schooling and went on to teach in the alternative school system before entering graduate school and then teaching at university level, which eventually led to my decision to move permanently abroad. Yet, before I made such a drastic decision I taught internationally as a Colorado University exchange professor at Russia's Moscow State University. I was afterwards asked to join an international program at the Agricultural University in Beijing, China. I loved this experience so much that I ended up being directly rehired by Chinese faculty to teach at BLCU, Beijing Language and Cultural University.

After returning to the Netherlands I've both taught and managed Cambridge-based language programs in the Irish Republic and HBO courses (first and second year university levels).

'Boulder Blues' is my first novel to receive any kind of critical acclaim. I then wrote what began as a children's story but ended up as a youth's struggle into adulthood, which was entitled 'Dancing Spoons and Khachapuri'. This story takes place in a changing Russia and addresses fragmented Eastern family relationships in a surreal world of modern economic collapse.

Later I wrote a four-part mystery series, which begins in Ireland where an amateur sleuthing Dutch professor falls in love with a Gard and entangles herself in all sorts of mishaps. The adventures of Felly van Vliet take our protagonist on to China and back to the Netherlands, where she continues with the aid of her students to investigate mishaps and mysteries in the descriptive landscapes and cultures of the other lands she is also teaching in.

'Uncommon Boundaries' and 'Beyond Uncommon Boundaries' are two composites of short stories, poetry and song put together at a time that I thought I was at death's door. But I'm still here!

And, to this day, I'm alive and well as I work to live, not live to work, enjoying my moments spent with family, friends and a special British Shorthair cat named Bernie.

'Uncommon Boundaries' is a collection of rich imagery that remains as one ponders the evocative thoughts of this lovely, playful artist. The readings I could best describe as words becoming like musical rhythms to the mind.
