Where to begin with this book? First off, it's about a VERY ambitious and determined black couple, Korienne (or Kori) and Easton. Their families do not like each other because Kori's father is a judge who has gone after Easton's land developer father.
When Kori is assigned to a case that can change the whole trajectory of her like she's a little hesitant to take it because it somewhat involves Easton's father (a cop was shot and killed in an apartment complex Easton's father owns). She winds up taking the case, and it puts a bit of a strain on their relationship.
The twist in this book was one I did not see coming, and on that alone I suggest this book! The character development was amazing and I really appreciated seeing the realism of Kori and East's relationship. If you enjoyed Ties That Tether, Before I Let Go or You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty then this book is for you!

Trigger warnings: miscarriage, abortion, language, strong sexual scenes, police brutality

good read

This story follows Korienne & Easton. Both are successful lawyers. After a breakup while these two were in law school and just starting their careers they pair find themselves in a relationship in which they chose to keep a secret. Korienne’s father is a judge and he happened to rule against Easton’s father in the the past. After a shooting at one of Easton’s father’s reality properties Korienne is tasked as the head DA to proceed over the case. Family secrets come to light it’s just the messiness I need. I would say that the beginning was kinda slow but basically from chapter 3 I breezed through the rest of it. The plot twists and family secrets kept me engaged. Overall 4.5/5⭐️

I wasn’t really a fan of this book. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great it was just ok to me. I feel like trying to make them with this somewhat forbidden love if that’s even what it was supposed to be was just so much of a stretch especially at their age. They were entirely too old to be hiding from their family and worrying about what their parents thought. Carol was a huge narcissist and his wife never spoke up until the end of the story which was just like uh 🙄 you could’ve stayed quiet. I really tried to love it but the way that they were portrayed just made me so mad and carol made it worse..

Thank you Cocoa Chapters and Lula White Books for the gifted copy of The Young & Luxurious: Love and Fire by Lula White. The Young & Luxurious: Love and Fire tells the love story of Korienne (Kori) Haughton and Easton Worthen, young Black professionals who grew up in wealthy LA neighborhoods and who find themselves on opposite sides of a ruling by Kori’s father, a judge and Easton’s father, a real estate developer. Will Kori and Easton be able to rise above the drama and have a happy marriage and successful careers?
This book has steamy romance scenes that would need to be toned down for a modern day soap opera or television movie. (Good luck finding an actor fine enough to play Easton!!)
I liked how Kori’s friends Mackenzie and Shallon were supportive of her relationship and her leadership in the African American Women’s Professional Association.
Shallon was the wild, funny friend of the group and has the main character energy to star in the series next book, The Young and Luxurious: Love Times Who? Stay tuned!

**4.5 Stars**

I really like when a book takes me through a full range of emotions, and The Young & Luxurious really had me in my feelings. I loved the way 30-something Easton loved Kori. I was disappointed with some of Kori’s choices, but inspired by her determination to be her own woman. And I was surprised AF by “behind closed doors” Easton. Because babyyyy!!! The way that thang was thangin!

The Young & Luxurious was very well written and really gave an interesting look into the highs and lows of Black professionals trying to make a name for themselves. Many of us see the end result of the come up, but have no idea of the sacrifices that had to be made, in order to get to where they are.

Overall the book was good. However, I am not a fan of books that teeter back and forth between the past and the present. That just my personal preference. They were a few grammar issues and overuse of words, but not enough to be distracting.

I like how Kori overcame the obstacles presented to her. I love how Easton was a supporter. Carol couldn’t get out of his own way. Vashti got on my last nerve, but I loved how the courtroom scenes played out.

When is Enough Enough?

Korienne and Easton, both rich, young, successful lawyers, in love with each other. Easton ready to settle down and make them permanent. Korienne is still chasing the illusive, just one more and I will be good enough. Sometimes I felt she was her own worst enemy although there were others vying for the position. Good exciting read on rivalry, morality, obstacles, and sticking to you principles, with some hilarity thrown in by the supporting cast.

Love & Fire is smoking

I loved this new series. Talk about not giving up on your love. Easton and Korianne are some fighters for love. Kori fought for her reputation, her man Easton and his independence from an overbearing father. Easton fought for Kori and her dream. Thank you for bringing our favorite Kevin into this. Can't have a story without Kevin F'ng Middleton.

When I first read the title, It immediately gave me a soap opera vibes from back in the day. And once I cracked it open and started reading it, it didn't disappoint. Boy, the drama was no joke in this book, and I am so here for all of it. As tired as I was, I refused to go to sleep until i had completely finished this captivating read. And the secrets that ended up being revealed, baby, there was nothing like it. And I at one point agreed with Easton, but I totally understood why Korienne did what she did. At some point, I will have to go back to the author's back list and check out her other books. Wow, I'm still a bit lost for words
