Kwame is just as self righteous as you'd expect. But at least he doesn't play the race card, because he plays the whole deck. :) Also it's easy to see how the now infamous affair with Christine happened. In his own words his relationship with Carlita has always been a little off while his relationship with Christine was spot on. He's known Christine longer and she was his Chief of Staff and most trusted ally. While Carlita is described as having trouble making friends, hating Detroit, and being uninterested in all things political. Yet Surrendered does a great job telling Kwame's side of the story. He was an extremely hard worker who did a lot of good for the city of Detroit and its residents. I'm sure he's not completely innocent of everything he's been accused of but he couldn't have stolen more than half the people in Congress and certainly a lot less than the banks we bailed out in 2008. Kwame probably deserved some jail time, but he's serving much more than his share.
It was good to hear (read) Kwame's side of the story. While I believe he was truthful in pointing out all the positive things he did for the City of Detroit, I do believe that he did not fully disclose all of his wrong doing and short comings. I believe that he did a lot of good for the City of Detroit that was overshadowed by his love for women, fame, and greed. Kwame has great potential and it saddens me that someone of his caliber is incarcerated for 28 years. I hope his family is able to heal and move on with life out of the spotlight.
