Royal alchemist Kaethe knows two things: But when a rumor that she believes pertains to her missing brother has her leaving the safety and warmth of King Arkain and Queen Elvie’s court, she finds herself in the heart of the orc’s territory. Brokenbone Mountain is rumored to be filled with unspeakable danger. And if you can survive the harsh elements, those foul creatures that call the mountain home will enjoy feasting on your bones. Delightful. Bazur, General of the Black Claw Clan, has no time for humans. The years have turned him as cold as the mountain he calls home. The last thing he needs to turn up in one of his traps is a brightly-colored hair human who danger seems to be following like a shadow. Bazur should turn her away and let the beasts have an easy dinner. But there is something about her that stops him. That propels him to take her in and keep her safe.
Even if she seems terrified of him. When one of his soldiers falls ill, Kaethe is the only one able to save him. In return, Bazur promises her safe passage through the mountain and volunteers to watch over her while she acts as a healer to his village. As the nights on Brokenbone Mountain grow longer and colder, Kaethe and Bazur learn that the other is not what they appear. Will their distrust for each other give way to the passion brewing between them? Or are some old wounds too deep to heal?
3.5 stars. Not a bad story overall… but I’m too neurotic to fully enjoy stories where I’m constantly wondering about if the hero went off to relieve his carnal urges with an OW. He disappeared a few nights and the heroine didn’t know where he went, she thought he was off with another woman, and that really wasn’t ever clarified. Now that I’m done reading, I’m still not 100% sure, although I’m choosing to believe he was celibate.
SWE; see above Virgin heroine, never been kissed even. And he is a little too obsessed with her virginal status for me. Hero celibate for a while and he says that’s probably why he wants the heroine so badly He also considers going to OW, not sure if he does No scenes with OM/OW No OM/OW drama

3 ⭐️ Lighthearted, low stakes, and sexy, but predictable plot and somewhat repetitive smut
”Love isn’t a strong enough word for what I feel for you, Kaethe. My mate, my akorzag. I’m obsessed, I’ll do anything, kill anyone for you.”
WHAT TO EXPECT: ✨ monster romance (orc and human) ✨ she’s a sweet pink haired alchemist on a mission ✨ he’s a dominating, grumpy, yet kind orc general ✨ grumpy x sunshine ✨ idiots to lovers ✨ he thinks she’s a spy ✨ fated mates ✨ sharing a saddle trope ✨ one-bed trope ✨ body heat trope ✨ 3/5 spice ✨ “you can take it” (he’s got a massive c0ck) ✨ loss of virginity (FMC) ✨ kinks: praise, spanking, breeding, cum tasting, anilingus and other ass play ✨ secrets and lies of omission ✨ miscommunication ✨ HEA
My Thoughts:
This was a pretty simple and predictable story, but I enjoyed the continued world-building and the MCs.
Bazur is the epitome of a grumpy cinnamon roll hero and Kaethe is an independent, loyal sweetheart. She does sometimes act foolish and naïve, which annoyed me, especially since she’s supposed to be an intelligent alchemist, but Kaethe was in a completely different environment than she’s used to so I get it.
The subplot about Kaethe finding her brother was pretty good since it allowed the reader to connect with Kaethe and learn more about her past and how that affects her outlook on life now. I was expecting a more difficult lead-up to the end of this conflict but the resolution was simple and sweet.
The subplot with King Vorgak was interesting world-building-wise, but I wished there would have been a bit more hands-on drama with him. And the resolution to this conflict at the end was so rushed when it should have taken more than one chapter. It’s done well for how quickly things get resolved, but it didn’t really make an impression because the drama was fleeting.
I loved Zarod and Mornga so much even though they were side characters with only a few scenes. 🙈 Zarod is so charming and hilarious and Mornga is so straightforward and sincere. While their individual interactions with Kaethe and Bazur always brought a smile to my face, their scenes together made me chuckle. They’re just so horny for each other. Lol Again, they play such small roles in this story, but they were great!
I think my biggest issue with the story was the fact that the characters act like idiots to make things more complicated for the story’s sake. For example, Kaethe could have told Bazur earlier on about her brother, but she doesn’t, and that creates unnecessary mistrust between the two. Or how it is soon obvious that Kaethe and Bazur are mates but Bazur, who should recognize the signs, is woefully blind to them and instead pushes Kaethe away. I just feel like these moments of conflict felt a little heavy-handed when there should have had a bit more subtlety and complexity.
Also, the title is a bit misleading. Kaethe isn't captured so much as she just happens to run into Bazur and his men while she's trying to make it to the Orc King's home at Brokenbone Mountain. I guess I was expecting more enemies to lovers because of the title when they really were cordial but suspicious in the beginning.
Overall, this is a fine orc romance. I liked the first book better, but this was a nice addition to the series. But I’m really looking forward to book 3 since we’ll be heading to a kingdom with vampires!! 🧛
What the actual hell did I just read?! It was a cute, wholesome little tale until these characters were creaming their pants every five seconds... then it just got weird. Is the writing good? No. Was there an interesting plot? Also no. But was it sort of entertaining? Kinda, but mostly no. A full review to come.
I LOVED this book. I don’t know how to put into words what exactly worked but the world building and character dialogues were perfect and I was never bored. Kathe wasn’t dumb or annoying, her internal dialogue was a perfect mixture of cautious and curious. Bazy was grumpy but sweet and kind without being cringey.
The angst was great and the spice when it finally hits 🤌🏼🤌🏼 I’ve never wanted to have an Orc mate more.
Well, I've gotta admit: this is BETTER than Taken by the Dark Elf King, and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that it's also a longer book as well.
See, in TbtDEK, the story had to move at a fairly brisk pace and concentrate on the development of the love angle, and therefore left little space for actual plot development, which I felt was rushed out of nowhere with conflicts in the final 20%.
Here, in CbtOG, we get something a bit similar, where the plot rushes in way more at the end, but...because this final conflict HAS been built up just a bit, and because the mini conflicts scattered throughout still keep the story going, it all just feels more acceptable and gradual, you know?
So, yeah, I was definitely more of a fan of Kaethe and Bazur's love story, and take this as a positive sign of what's up ahead for the series. Will DEFINITELY be reading the third book, when it comes out later this year!
All in all, again, this is nothing too original, but for a writer who's trying out her hand at this genre and with these types of plots, it's pretty good, so kudos to her!

❥ 𝑲𝒂𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝜗𝜚˚⋆ She was lovely. Intelligent, brave and has a passion for alchemy which was pretty interesting.
❥ 𝑩𝒂𝒛𝒖𝒓 ࣪⋆✮ I really liked him. He is a big, bulky Orc who has his heart in the right place.
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 This was a worthy second book and I enjoyed reading a lot. The world building is interesting with a lot of different species and it is easy to dive into this worlds. I appreciate the creativity of the author and had fun to follow Kaethes little adventure. Kaethe and Bazur are a good match and their tension was great. Both are passionate about the things they love and they treat each other with mutual respect. I liked their communication and the way they listen to each other. Overall this was an entertaining orc monster romance with a lot of fluff.
𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 ᡣ𐭩ྀི₊ ⊹ possessive and protective hero, instant attraction, fantasy romance, touch her and die, human alchemist x orc general, forced proximity, high fantasy, political intrigue, mates, one bed, she cares for his wounds, gentleman, monster romance
𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 ages: Kaethe (26) and Bazur (36) cheating: no sharing: no kinks: no
I felt like it was fleshed out a little more and the orc world was a little clearer to me.
The characters are cute together and it’s more slow burn for sure, so it’s more satisfying when they get together!
I liked how she found her brother and wish there was more significant moments between them, considering he was the motivation for the story.
A few things annoyed me, one being that Kae doesn’t tell Bazur she’s looking for her brother for quite a long time and this leads to distrust between them. I didn’t really understand why she waited so long.
I thought the ending felt rushed, too. Bazur is waiting for years to get rid of the king and it happens in moments.
Still, if you want a quick, pretty low angst fantasy with spice, you may like it!
Safety: Triggers: parent death (murder), some orcs raid and mistreat humans (not really shown), talks of women losing babies or dying in childbirth
OW/OM drama: slight jealousy from Bazur of other men admiring her, but really no. H is not a virgin and in the beginning thinks it’s been a while, maybe that’s why he wants heroine so bad (😒) Heroine is a virgin.

4⭐️ I liked this second book, I liked how they started it and how she was struggling. And of course then she finds her orc guy and how they didn't know that they were faded mates. I like their stories, and how similar they really were to each others. I like how they bickered, and they didn't really like each other. Also that she was looking for her brother and how everything happened, the romance, the build-up of the romance, the suspense. There is a bit of space in this book.
What is there to say - wow I love this even better than the first book. The writing itself has definitely improved and I loved the two main characters - although I will always love a curvy healer as the MFC. Also truly all of the best tropes. Looking forward to #3 coming out.
Kae’s tragic backstory drew me in, but Kae and Bazur’s mutual pining was what hooked me. They are freaking adorable. My only complaint is that the last half of the book just felt rushed. So much time was spent on sex that expectations that were set up earlier in the book weren’t addressed. There’s a lot of political strings that didn’t get tied up. Despite that, I did really enjoy myself. Another HEA in the bag. 😌
This was a cute and spicy read! While you can tell the author is still pretty fresh (dialogue inconsistencies, etc), the story and characters are well developed and very fun!
I love that this wasn’t all smut no plot. There were layers to this story and I loved each one.
Kaethe lost her parents to a raid as a child. She has always wondered if her brother also fell victim to the same orcs that took her parents that night. Kaethe grew up to be an alchemist who works for an Elven Queen. She’s enjoying her life when she hears rumors of a man who may be her brother living on Brokenbone Mountain, the domain of Orcs. Kaethe swallows her fear and heads to the mountain to find her brother only to become ensnared in the trap of an Orc general named, Bazur. He seems nice enough but Kaethe decides it’s best to keep her actual intentions for coming to the mountain a secret. She tries to guard herself against him and his warmth but it’s a challenge when you’re forced to share not only a home with him but a bed as well.
I love orcs and I love monster romance so this was perfect for me. It was sweet, spicy, fast paced and had a little bit of action in the necessary places. This is the second in a series, something I didn’t realize until after I bought the book. I enjoyed this so much that I do plan on going back to get book 1.
I was so excited to get this as an arc my very first one!! Let me say I was hooked on the first book but this one took me by surprise. I love everything in this book and I could not put it down. Bazur just made me melt and Kae is just who I feel to be if I were in her situation 🥰 Charlotte really hit every point for me just like she did in the first book of the series!!
He was the best guy around What about the people he murdered? What murder?
Bazur is the most gentlemanly orc I've ever met.
Wish more chapters were from his perspective. Some random grammar/spelling errors threw it off a little for me- one instance the FMC's name was spelled wrong.
