Thank you, Sadie Robertson Huff and Christian Huff, for the opportunity to read your book. This was an enjoyable read. This devotional talks about how we should put love first with God, the people in our lives, and our communities. In this devotional, we get insights from Sadie and Christian about their life and the challenges they went through growing up and in their marriage and provide advice on how we should overcome similar challenges in our lives. I thought this devotional was interesting and made me want to put love first even when it is challenging. I know that even though I am still figuring out who I am in this world, I have a loving Jesus who has been with me through it all. I think it was great that I got insights about how I can put love first in this world, and I loved the Scriptures that provided me with more strength and wisdom in my Christian journey. I am grateful for the Lord being in my life, and I am glad to know that He is with me through everything that I face. Because of Jesus, I am who I am today. Overall, a great read.
This was a great devo to get me thinking about how well I love others. You know I looooove my girl Sadie so I liked hearing advice from her and Christian her husband and how relatable and applicable their advice and stories were.
A little repetitive at times (i.e. Sadie talking about her past relationship on several different pages) and I’d say it doesn’t go super deep- but I did enjoy reading their different stories and insight on different ways to love. I enjoyed reading their personal stories and their lives. At times they were a little vague/general with certain things they were talking about and I wanted them to give more detail. I understand they might have done this for their family’s privacy so I get that. Overall it’s an easy to read and understand devotional that gives some different ways to show love. It was nice reading from Christian’s perspective and learning more about him and his background. I hope they continue to write more books/devotionals together in the further especially as they gain more life/parenting experience!
Are you struggling to properly love God, your loved ones, and the community? What if you discovered that putting love first in all your relationships will allow them to thrive? This is the focus of this 90-day devotional by reality television star and motivational speaker Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian Huff. Throughout these 90 days, readers get to reflect on 2-page passages written by Sadie and Christian about how to put love first in 3 areas: through their relationship with God, through their loved ones, and through their community. At the end of each passage is the "How To Put Love First" section, where readers can take each day's message and put love first in a tangible way. At the end of each area of focus of where to put love first, readers are brought to the "Pause and Reflect" section written by licensed psychologist Dr. Josh Kirby, who summarizes the essential teachings of each area in a beautifully written reflection. An added bonus at the end of the devotional is the "How To Put Love First Date Ideas", where readers can intentionally plan and schedule quality time with God, their loved ones, and their community.
I enjoyed learning about how to put love first in all areas of my life so that my relationships can thrive. As someone who strives to love others as best as I can, this devotional showed me how to do so in practical ways that I will continue to do even after finishing this book.
I really enjoyed this book and looked forward to reading it every morning. I was part of the text messages that gave us a video each day and I really enjoyed watching them after I read each day for a little added clarity and help.
Best devotional I have ever read! Will be reading this again because the lessons were ones that I want live out and be reminded of every day. So good!!
I began the year with this 90 day devotional book as well as the text messages that came from Sadie’s LO text thread.
The book it self is broken up into three parts: Your relationship with God, Your relationship with your people, and Your relationship with your community. It goes day by day, giving you a topic, a verse then either Sadie or Christian give insight to the topic and they end with a challenge for the day. The text thread sent a video where Sadie and Christian talked then they usually had friends speak more in the topic at hand.
I really enjoyed this devotional. It challenged me to put others before myself and treat others with love in everything I do. God calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves and each day Sadie and Christian challenged me to really evaluate if I am doing that. I also liked how they told their own stories of how God challenged them on the specific topic at hand. It made it feel more intimate and real.
Obviously the Bible says it best when it tells us in Matthew that the greatest command is love. This book does a good job of stressing the point that if we will use that as the greatest command in every relationship, our relationships would be better.
The book is set up as a 90 day devotional with scripture and narrative for each day. I read it straight through and don't feel like I lost any of the impact or meaning.
The book addresses a variety of relationships with both God and others. Although I do not agree with the author's stance on salvation, the need for each of these relationships to be rooted in love is certainly scriptural--making love a topic that we could probably all stand to read more about.
A lot of the content seemed to be very repetitive....this is not a deeply scriptural study--more the authors' interpretation of scriptures and application. I felt like the doctor's part between chucks of days took away from the feel of the book and was unnecessary.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I followed Sadie and Christian for quite some time now and live who they are and what they are about. Especially love that they are a young Christian couple.
As I reflect on this year love is something that had tugged at my heart and going through the 90 day reflectional was eye opening. Again love the nodes to community as that is a huge for me (to have and to cultivate). I also got to pair the last few days with other books on the topic of love; how to do it, how to be it, and how to show it.
2025 will be a year of love for me and it helps that I have it permanently tattooed on my (physically and by God as he first loved me).
Thank you Sadie and Christian for this start of creating intentional habits surrounding love. I look forward to more books by the both of you ❤️
Christian's POV was super practical, relatable, and easy to apply. Unfortunately, can't say the same for Sadie. Every. Single. Devotion of hers gave off a "holier than thou" essence. While Christian came to the devotion everyday with a "this is what I work on daily, this is where I've messed up, this is not my best quality," Sadie always came with, "This is Christianity's problem, this is Christian's weakness, this is where Christian messed up, this is where my friend messed up." The whole point of being a Christian is acknowledging that we fail daily, and Sadie missed the point.
This was a great devotional! I love Sadie and Christian and appreciate all the wisdom that they have to share.
This book is perfect for singles, or people in a relationship. I love how it is impactful for all kinds of situations and I love the three big themes of love it explored. It was super easy to read and understand, and very engaging as well!
This is a devotional I’ll continue to reference and reread, and one that I will be recommending and gifting to friends!
In this 90-day devotional, Sadie and Christian Huff (plus relationship expert Dr. Josh Kirby) provide insights and tips to help readers grow their relationship with God, people in their lives, and the greater community. Each day of the devotional ends with a tangible way to love others well, a question to reflect on, or a prayer to pray. At the end of the book there are even date ideas that you could do with romantic partners or family and friends!
What I enjoyed about How to Put Love First was that it's not specifically geared towards romantic relationships. Although Sadie and Christian are a married couple, their wisdom can be used to improve any type of relationship in your life—regardless of your marital status.
Although I wish that I better kept up with reading it daily, I think How to Put Love First is a great devotional for loving the people in your life better.
I did not finish; it was not great. I apologize, but their "help" seems too light and fluffy, and the experiences are generic. I didn't feel like I was learning or getting anything out of it. I got to day 35, and it just had one bible quote, which is usually problematic with most devotionals anyway, but it just lacked substance, I normally love Sadies podcast but this book was not for me
This 90 day challenge was such a blessing for me! It was the perfect daily devotional to kickstart my day and supplement my scripture readings. Thank you Sadie and Christian for showing me how to better love Jesus and in turn my community.
I love all of Sadie Robertson’s devotionals and I always gain so much insight from her. It was nice to get to read a different perspective with Christian, but they didn’t hit as hard as Sadies. However, it was still a great read and I recommend it to anyone who needs a devotional to read!
This book has a fun easy cadence and is filled with good storytelling and great truth. Hearing how to love others and love God well from a husband and wife’s point of view is so encouraging.
