The Intangible Tangerine I cannot wait for this adorable short story to come alive in film. One by one we are introduced to the characters searching for food and shelter. Each of these animals has hard times, yet work together to seek out and create the best world possible for all. They are inspiring when we look at the world today, so many differences these characters have, yet can work together for the best of all. They were able to find and nourish the land and each other. They lived happily together for many years until an evil force threatened their food and lifestyle. These adorable characters use their individual strengths again to contribute to keeping all of their homes safe and protected. The pictures are so sweet and loving. The author hoping to make this into a movie is so inspiring. I am looking forward to a series of books and movies. Hopefully we can spread the word that our differences make us stronger.
The Intangible Tangerine reminds me a lot of reading those old fables from when I was a kid. It has the same magical yet simple to understand style a la Aesop. We follow a group of four animals (a bear, a kangaroo, a tree frog, and a rhino) that are from different corners of the Earth, but still face the same problem: hunger. A sad parallel to real life, but according to the author's "About Me," it's not a surprising one. Still, we get a happier solution in the story than in reality thanks to the story's magical setting. As the second half of the story becomes more mystical and action based, I still found it as easy to read and follow along as the first part.
It's a perfect book to give to a child who wants to begin to read longer stories early. The style of writing, illustrations, and plot make an easy transition from picture books to chapter books. A definite recommendation, especially for nature and animal loving kids.
“The Intangible Tangerine is a heart warming story about the power of friendship and the loyalty that lies between them. The author play into the trope of friendship as he has the characters work as a team to solve a problem. As the author tells the story, he does it in a digestible way so that children can understand the hard topic (hunger) by using characters as animals. These characters come together to try and solve one of the hardest problems we face today in the world, which we are still trying to overcome this problem. By telling this problem in bit size pieces so that our children can take it in, maybe we can raise a new generation of kids who can maybe one day solve problems like these. I highly recommend this to anyone with small children who wants to teach them about big world problems in small bites.
