NOWHERE TO HIDE

Haunted by flashbacks of nightmarish abuse and now hunted by the man who'd inflicted it, Ruth Ridenour was on the run. Living a life that had its roots in terror, she was still determined to keep her baby son safe.

Fleeing from a town turned against him, Garrett Kincade desperately sought a safe haven. Though wounded and left for dead, he knew it was only a matter of time before the long arm of the law had him in a stranglehold....

A midnight ride into the unknown brought them together--two fugitives from the brutality of life, each guarding secrets too painful, too dangerous, to expose. But could the need to protect a child make trust--and love--bloom like a desert rose?

This wasn't too bad and takes place a couple of years after the events of the first book. The heroine's abusive husband was punished albeit lightly for horribly abusing her & almost killing her. So when she hears he is out she decides to go on the run with her son and runs into the hero who collapses in her car. The hero is on the run too from corrupt police who are trying to frame him while he is trying to expose their illegal dealings. Somehow and suspend disbelief here as we need to in romance books heroine thinks hero's isolated cabin is a good place to hide for her too and they grow closer. Her son calls him Daddy too so queue the feels! Both h/H have been horribly hurt by their so called spouses before but fall for each other. Of course the danger they're in stands in the way. Honestly not such a bad read atleast I liked the hero which I didn't in the previous book.

DNF p. 149.

I made it a decent way into this book but it just kept getting stupider and stupider. This woman has the emotional and mental maturity of a child, and she needs to have her kid taken off her since every choice she makes places him in terrible, mortal danger. She also has zero standards when it comes to men. Her ex was an abusive, violent man who tried to murder her and her child - so when the hero shows her the most basic levels of politeness she's BLOWN AWAY and instantly in love with him. Meanwhile I, the reader, am wondering why the fuck anybody would fancy this pathetic, whining idiot who throws temper tantrums and prisses about dry pancakes. He's a loser, a flat out stupid loser, nobody could serious like this man.

Also, the kid... pass me a vomit bag.
