It wasn't a topic I was particularly interested in, but I love the opposing viewpoints series. I was actually surprised how much controversy there was around welfare and how to implement it. Some of the topics discussed were if a 1996 law that lowered welfare rates was actually effective or just pushed people off welfare who still needed it, if there should be programs focused on encouraging single moms to marry, and what sort of programs would be effective (targeted welfare, drug testing, private charity, the earned income tax credit, etc).
