This is the SPECIAL COVER EDITION of Japanese From Zero! book 4
Japanese From Zero! is an innovative and integrated approach to learning Japanese that was developed by professional Japanese interpreter George Trombley, Yukari Takenaka and has been refined for over fifteen years in the classroom by native Japanese professors.
Using up-to-date and easy-to-grasp grammar, Japanese From Zero! is the perfect course for current students of Japanese as well as absolute beginners.
So.... I am deciding to drop this textbook. It is not because the textbook is bad by any means at all; this is just purely out of my own mental state! I say this with a smile on my face. I just feel as though I cannot do textbook based learning anymore! Everytime I've gone back to Japanese, I would open this up trying to finish the next chapter, and it would turn into a slog and eventually I would hate myself. "Why can't I do this anymore?" "Maybe I just can't learn anymore Japanese?" Then I'd wallow in self pity. However, the reality is I just don't want to sit in front of a textbook.... I want to try new ways of learning. I should have taken my professor's advice immediately when she said I need to watch more shows and read more books. I thought I knew what was best since I've been learning with this textbook series from the start, but guys!!! I started this textbook back in 2023 when I was still living in Germany!!!! LOL! This is a sign if I ever seen it... time to try something new and also take my professor's advice....
Perhaps I will pick this back up again someday.... Albeit unlikely though, if not to just use the kanji worksheets. Another factor that slowed my want to continue the series is I was using George's videos as motivator. I would do the chapter, and then use the videos he so graciously made for free to go along with his book. However, there was a point where he stopped uploading- or became slow to upload, and his newer videos were in a shortform content with less practice sections. It's almost as if his want to make videos and my want to study from textbooks died at the same time. It's funny how uncanny that is. I love George, and definitely intend to still learn alongside his videos in the future, but that will definitely be at a later date. My learning approach now is prioritizing native Japanese content, with supplementary workbooks (considering the Matome series) so I know that I am still taking in new grammar and vocabulary. I still intend to chip away at George's Kanji workbook series, but the textbook series has definitely sailed for me. I am very much the type of person who intends to finish what they start, but it has become bashing my head into a wall like I am some kind of baby goat and there is no way I am going anywhere with this. The priority is to enjoy myself while learning, so I'm steering towards other outlets. :)
