About the author

Hilary Green is a trained actress and spent many years teaching drama. She has always written, producing novels, scripts for the BBC, and short stories, one of which one the Kythira Prize awarded by the Historical Novel Society.

When not writing she gardens, rides horses, walks in the countryside and plays bridge as well as enjoying travel and has been round the world several times. Hilary is married, a grown-up son and two grandchildren.

I continue to be impressed at the bravery of the women who volunteered years of their time to be nurses or ambulance drivers during WWI. In this 2nd book of the trilogy I am again reminded of the portions (or the war) and places (Croatia, Serbia, etc.) of WWI that we do not learn about in school or really much of anywhere.

But I think Leo's romance is unwise and probably doomed. We'll see what happens in the 3rd installment!!

Brilliant, cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

I was gripped from the start right up to the end. I do not normally like historical fiction books, but it was necessary to go into details of this war to realise the hardships everyone endured. I cannot imagine what the soldiers and those that nurses them went through. A relation of mine fought in WWI , but we never really knew of the horrors this book tells about. Praise for Holly Green, who kept the facts clear but also managed to get the romance element there as well. I did not realise the important part a war artist played in WW1. I definitely want to get the final book in this series as soon as possible to see what happens next in the lives of Leo, Sasha, Tom and Victoria.

This is the second book of the Lenora Saga. It is 1914 and Germany and Britain are now at war. Lenora’s adventures continue as she returns to Europe as a member of FANY to help care for the wounded. Will she find her true love, Sasha again? A story of war and also love and friendship. An enjoyable read!

The second instalment about the WW1 adventures of Leo and Victoria of the FANY. The geography of the Eastern European countries is a challenge. Sometimes I lost track of who was fighting who and where. The stories of the four main protagonists keeps the reader turning the pages.

This suffered slightly for being the middle book of a trilogy, but it was still gripping. The story opens with Leo, Victoria and Tom back in England and Ralph still in Serbia. Tom heads out to rejoin Ralph and the pair get mixed up in the outbreak of war. Escaping in the nick of time they sign up with the same British Army battalion: Ralph as an officer, and Tom initially as a war artist. Meanwhile Leo and Vicky wait anxiously to be sent across the Channel to nurse and hear that their old friend Luke has joined the army in New Zealand and so will also be heading back. Leo's former love Sasha has gone through with his arranged marriage to a sickly young woman and is also at the front.

So, many plot threads, and they all intertwine at various points. A couple of issues get resolved a little too easily, but I have high hopes of their being mirrored by similar trickier situations in book three, or by unexpected consequences cropping up to shock the characters.

I also spent much of the time Ralph and Tom were in the same room wanting to bang their heads together, but they've got a whole final book to actually talk to each other about their feelings. A highly recommended series.

This is second of a triology. There were too many plots and characters for one book, but seemed right for a triology. Unfortunately, I jumped into the middle, so will have to find the first -- then last;)
