Pretty goated TMNT stuff here. I feel like everything has settled in a lot. It’s kind of like the Spider-Man 2 of the Raimi Spider-man films, everything just feels more natural. Bebop and Rocksteady are pretty funny, I also like how Rocksteady thought a rhinoceros was a dinosaur, that’s a pretty good bit throughout the volume. Shredder is also really cool in this. He kidnaps and brainwashes Leonardo into hating his brothers, and then forces him to work for him, that’s some pretty evil stuff. The solo Shredder issue at the end is my favorite part. It’s about what he experienced in the years while he was dead waiting to be resurrected in modern times. He literally lived in Hell for centuries, found out that a future him had conquered hell after he for real dies in the future. Hunts down this future him in Hell, and kills him. All because he wants to know how strong he will have to be when he is that old so he can kill the present him, when he is eventually the future him. Ya following me?

Still no Cowabunga.

Always loved this arc. Leo getting brainwashed is a delightful concept and I loved Splinter trolling his sons in the beginning! The villain micro-series in this volume are also highlights of this run of TMNT.

This particular volume contains that City Fall arc, which largely focuses on Leonardo and his own internal struggles. It further provides backgrounds on Aloplex, Karai, Slash, Bebop, Rocksteady, and cast of other characters. It contains plenty of twists and turns and Shredder is as ruthless as well. Can't recommend this one enough for any turtle fan.

+ Marteus Santoluoco art really elevates the story. City Fall arc where Leonardo joins the foot is fun…
- …But it’s overly cliche. Pacing of the story could be better.

Starting out, this volume had a few issues I certainly didn’t care for. However, I think this volume had some of the best micro-series so far and one of the best multi-issue stories. There are a few background characters who get to be more fleshed out and experience some unexpected character development, which I enjoyed.

The City Fall issues were honestly peak. Without getting too heavy into spoiler territory, Shredder wants Leonardo to be his second in command because he’s just soooo cool and great at what he does. Great day for Leo fans!!! Karai kidnaps him, and poor Leo gets brainwashed and lowkey possessed as well. I was so excited to read about them together because they are typically narrative foils for one another and they’re consistently my two favorite characters. Unfortunately they hated each other! Terrible day for Leorai fans who just want one (1) canon iteration of the pair that isn’t incest😔😔😔😔

Overall, I give this volume a 3.25. I would say this one has high highs but also low lows.
