First book I have read by Abraham Kuyper and it will not be my last. Thorn and thistles, the Cains of this world and lastly the that old serpent the devil and Satan is our great warfare described in this book. Our weapons? Knowing God finds all of these things necessary for he provides them with the Christian called to be patient with fasting during these trials . Really enjoyed some of the allegory and illustrations. Will definitely read this more than once.

A treatise by the Dutch theologian Abraham Kuyper. This isn't really a fully formed treatment of the subject and it feels a bit underdeveloped, but there is some good stuff in here. The parts on patience and endurance are particularly good.

An exceptional and measured work on the reality of Christ as King and Lord of the world. It is near impossible after reading this work not to feel the weight of the Kingship of Christ pressing upon every aspect of Christian living.

Excellent. Much of the content is similar to what you might find in any book on godliness - straightforward and simple. It was the final section on fasting that I found the most "new" to me and the most valuable. Overall, its a short, good read, and an excellent companion to one's morning devotions. Recommended.
