For Young Adults: Sixteen year-old Lexi Hunter is just an ordinary teenager wishing that her life could be as exciting as a reality tv show when her mom receives a phone call with the news that Lexi's cousin, Austin, was killed. She and her mom return to Briar Creek, the town that they left ten years ago, never looking back.

During their stay, Lexi falls head-over-heels for Gabe, the dark and mysterious guy who lives across the street and goes to the same high school that Austin went to. Lexi's Aunt Violet and Uncle Tommy insist on her staying away from him due to his violent behavior and instead urge her to pursue a relationship with Dan, Austin's best friend.

In an effort to learn more about the cousin she barely knew, Lexi snoops through Austin's belongings. Soon, she begins to uncover puzzling details that make her believe that Austin wasn't really attacked by an animal the night he was killed - details that may already be putting her own life in danger.

I really discovered a gem when I came across this series. It is now one of my all time favorites!

Lexi Hunter and her mother are headed back to the town of Briar Creek after they receive a call that her cousin Austin has been killed. It has been 10 years since Lexi and her mom left Briar Creek. Lexi starts to notice some very strange things going on around her and begins her own investigation into the death of her cousin. Some things just don’t add up and makes her form more questions rather than answers. The aunt and uncle are pushing Lexi to spend time with Dan, Austin’s best friend. What is up with that and is Dan really on the up and up?

Then we have Gabe……..insert swoon here…….who is the mysterious neighbor who lives across the street from Lexi’s aunt and uncle with his mother. Lexi starts to fall for him but of course her aunt and uncle tell her to stay away from him that he is nothing but trouble. I don’t know about you but that just makes me want someone more. Lexi is not much different in this situation. He intrigues her too much!

This book was a great start to the series and I would highly recommend it to everyone. And talk about cliffhanger! WOW…..and I will leave it at that.

This book was not as great as i thougth it was going to be. First of all theres so many different guys in this book that this girl likes and doesnt like and then she has all this stuff going on around her and she doesnt find any of it weird. Then her mom dies and she cries and then is totally fine with it. She falls in love with this guy and kisses him on second time she meets him and wants to have sex with him already. I think it was written horribly and all you find out is that its about vampires nothing about what she is there for or anything.

This book was literally so stupid. Lexi fell in love with like 6 guys the entire time. All she could think about was boys and trying to figure out how Austin died which wasn't realllly suspicious. But the ironic thing is that her mom died from food poisoning from beef and her mom doesn't eat beef and Lexi wasn't really that upset. Besides her aunt and Dan acting really suspicious the whole time there was nothing wrong with the town. It is supposed to be a vampire book and it didn't have anything to do with vampires until the last 5 pages of the book. A waste of time to read.

I felt like I was reading a story written by my 14 year old daughter. Too much thought jumping and dropping and it was chaotic. I constantly wanted to bang my head against the wall. Unfortunately, I have ocd when reading, and I am compelled to finish reading the book or series, once I start. To my complete torture, this was a 7 book series.

Book one in the series introduced us to Lexi, a teen girl who lost someone in her family but with barely any emotion portrayed towards the event and more to the selection of boys that she likes. Gabe, Dan, Craig and Brandon.

Lexi knew something wasn't right about their deaths but could do barely anything about it. But things might change, and we might see more of it next as we have six more books to explore in the series.

It's a slow start with teenage angst and only an added bit of mysteries to solve about Lexi's father, the killer and what's so special about Lexi, who holds the title of the 'last hope' in the story. Read this book if you're a dedicated vampire genre fan who doesn't mind a childish mindset heroine.

What I liked:
-The beginning. The opening scene was what initially drew me into the story, and I found myself thinking that if the rest of the book was as mysterious, this would be an awesome read. Even though Austin seemed a little cocky and unlikable, I liked seeing things from his point of view.
-The ending. The final chapter was the only thing that kept me from giving this book two stars. It was completely out of the blue and full of suspense and I never saw it coming. The ending was one of the only things about this book that I really liked, and I think it made Gabe’s character more interesting.
-The carnival. This was the best scene in the entire book—Lexi started noticing some weird things and she was attacked. That was pretty much the only action in the entire thing.

What I disliked:
-Lexi. She was kind of annoying and her attitude toward Mary-Kate really irked me. I know teenage girls can be a little catty sometimes, especially when it comes to girls liking boys they themselves like, but she really annoyed me. She went on and on about Mary-Kate’s sluttiness when Lexi was the one making out with Gabe after knowing him for like one night, and for making out with Dan, and for lusting after both Craig and Brandon as well.
-Plot. I felt like the plot didn’t really go anywhere. Lexi said she was determined to find out what happened to both Austin and her mother, but she didn’t really do much about it. She seemed to forget about both of them pretty quickly, especially when Gabe was involved. If my mom had died, I’d be a little less worried about looking nice for the neighbor boy and a little more focused on investigating. But that’s just me.
-Romance. Gabe and Lexi were supposed to be in love, but I honestly didn’t see it. At all. They were making out the night they met—I think. Honestly the time jumps in this book didn’t make a ton of sense to me. One minute she’s only been in town for a day and the next she’d been there for a week—and Gabe and Lexi both seemed like pretty flat and boring characters. I didn’t feel like they were in love.

Overall, this was a pretty boring young adult vampire romance book, except it didn’t really have a lot of actual romance. The writing was okay, but the characters were boring and the plot was nonexistent. The book was cheap and entertaining, but I don’t know if I’ll be continuing the series or not. 2.5

I found Kiss of Death as an Amazon Suggestion. The synopsis looked interesting and I admit it the cover is pretty. The story drew me in immediately and had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing which is hard to do. The only reason I didn't give this five stars was because certain parts of the story felt like they happened too quickly such as parts of the romance. But I would recommend this for anyone who likes vampire romance with mysterious storylines.

Lexi Hunter and her Mom come home to Briar Creek after years away for Lexi's cousin, Austin's wake. Austin was supposedly killed by a wild animal to Lexi this just doesn't add up. As her Mom and her stay with her Aunt Violet and Uncle Tommy, Lexi asks around about Austin's death. Everyone in Briar Creek is odd and there are so many secrets that keep you glued to the book. Dan, Austin's best friend, shows interest in Lexi but so does the mysterious Gabe from across the street. On the night before, Lexi and her Mom as planning to go home, Lexi gets attacked and Lexi's Mom is killed. The autopsy says that Lexi's Mom died from E.Coli but since she was a vegetarian, Lexi is sure her Mom was murdered. Her Aunt and Uncle become her Gaurdians and become very controlling. Lexi is frustrated by her Aunt's lies and insistance that she date Dan. Although she likes Dan, Lexi feels swept away by Gabe who her aunt forbids her to see. Gabe and Lexi still manage to connect here and there but to me it seemed as though Lexi just suddenly climbs in his lap and is all over him. Dan is very creepy to me and the fact that her Aunt makes her date him made me root for Gabe. But you can never really tell who is on Lexi's side. Aunt Violet continues to control Lexi's life by grounding her, not turning on her internet, shutting off her cell phone, and forcing her to work and give them all her money.

I really don't want to give too much away except this is an excellent read and be sure to buy the next book, Thicker than Water because there is a heck of a cliffhanger. I was glad to be able to go on.

(3.5 Stars) "Kiss of Death" is an interesting little tale about a teen, Lexi Hunter who returns with her mother to Briar Creek to attend the funeral of her cousin, Austin. The rumor is Austin was killed by some sort of animal attack; but, Lexi begins to grow suspicious. While investigating, Lexi's mother dies from E-Coli present in beef she ate during a dinner with the town mayor. However, Lexi's mother was vegetarian.

Since her mother's death, Lexi has been forced to live with her aunt and uncle, who are acting very strangely. They refuse to allow her to have a memorial for her mother, they will not allow her to see her neighbor, Gabe down the street, and they insist she dates her cousin's best friend, Dan. Although she is furious, complies with some their demands in order to get out of the house and obtain some freedom.

Then, one evening, Dan refuses to accept 'no' from Lexi. Before, he can continue his unwanted advances, Gabe comes to her rescue and takes her away. I enjoyed the intrigue and mystique; but quickly grew tired of all of the boys swarming around Lexi and her inability to understand who she wanted to go out with. Next, the author's mention of 'Twilight' was totally cheesy and unnecessary. Finally, I truly hated the abrupt way in which the story ended. Don't get me wrong, I am not one of these readers who do not like cliffhangers. However, when you end a book at least make a comment at the end referring to the next book in the series or a moment like the mystery will continue.....

Overall, the book was pretty good and I will be continuing on with the series. I am hoping that some of my concerns i.e. all of the boy drama/ lust will have some reasonable explanation in future installments.

This book had potential but there are just too many issues with the book, series. The main issue is that of the premise of Lexi going to Briar Creek, to attend her cousin's funeral, and the main issue is that there is no need for her and her mother to go the funeral, They had completely ignored him for twelve years and all through the book Lexi keeps stating that she doesn't really know Austin and so why attend a funeral for someone you don;t know plus there is hatred between Lexi's and Austin's mother so therefore there is no reason or need to attend the funeral which is the basis for the book.
Then Lexi falls in love with every single male she sees, even during the funeral. She also gets hung up investigating Austin's death which she really isn't and besides no one else is investigating it because there is already a known case of death but when it comes to her mother's death, well this just doesn't make any sense. First her mother dies from food poisoning as a result from eating beef but she is a vegetarian plus she apparently dies much quicker than one with a massive heart attack. Lexi never is allowed to view her mother at all, while she is sick or after she has died and there has to be a funeral for her mother even though the author said there isn't one and Lexi is not investigating her mother's death, which has red flags all over the death
Her aunt is just wrong, as well as Brair Creek is but one must question as to the reason why Lexi would have her own bedroom at her Aunt's house with her own dollhouse, she lived in the same town and so why would have her own bedroom. Also her aunt doesn't automatically become her guardian just because her mother dies plus there are many other problems with the aunt's character as with just about each character.

Kiss of Death was the first Jayme and Jody Morse book I read and I loved it! The story drew me in instantly and kept me guessing with all the twists and turns.

Lexi Hunter and her mom came to Briar Creek after years away from Lexi's cousin, Austin's wake. Austin was supposedly killed by a wild animal, but Lexi knows something just doesn't add up. Since she is staying with her Aunt and Uncle (Austin's parents), she asks questions about his death to get to the bottom of Austin's death. When reading the book, you really get a feel for the mystery of the town which really draws you in and keeps you wanting to read more.

Dan, Austin's best friend, shows interest in Lexi, but so does the mysterious Gabe who lives across the street. The night before Lexi and her mom head home, they get attacked and Lexi's mom is killed. Lexi's mom was said to have died from e-coli, but Lexi knows this couldn't be since her mom is a vegetarian. Lexi is positive her mom was murdered and is determined to get to the bottom of it.

Since the death of Lexi's mom, her Aunt and Uncle become her legal guardians and they are too controlling for Lexi's liking. Since Lexi's Aunt and Uncle are determined that she dates Dan, she gets put off a little by him. However, she is totally swept off her feet by Gabe who her Aunt forbids her to see, which only makes it more intriguing.

Throughout this book, you can never really tell who is on Lexi's side and it keeps you guessing and changing who you like throughout the book. This was an awesome book and I can't wait to share more of the series with you!

This book was strange. It had really strange conversations that went from sensual to concerned to, well...mac and cheese. When you read it you will understand what I mean. Then there were points that didn't make sense. Dramatic events that didn't seem to phase the character nearly as much as being forced to date a guy she wasn't into, at the moment. Despite the random conversations and general weirdness of Lexi, the main character, I couldn't put the book down. Lexi seems like a typical drama queen teenager, who apparently has raging hormones. There is a big secret in the town that everyone seems to know except for her. The really great thing about this book is I laughed at things I probably shouldn't have but I could not stop reading and the ending made me go, "WHAT! Oh my gosh, I have to buy the next book." So, apparently it was well written after all

Kiss of Death was a pretty good book The suspense factor and cliff hangers were really good. I am normally pretty good at guessing what is going to happen and who we should suspect, but in this book I really didn’t know who to suspect. I suspected everyone!
This is a great book for young adults, my 15 year old daughter read both books that are out in the series in four days.
I like the storyline in these books and the first book leaves you with a cliff hanger where you can’t possibly not go out and get the next one.
The one thing that bothered me was that Lexi seemed to get over the death of her mother fairly easily, and then someone else close to her dies, and she gets over that somewhat fast too.

I really enjoyed the plot of the first book of the Briar Creek Vampires series. It didn't take long at all to get in to and goodness knows I had a hard time putting it down. My own complaint is that there were parts with little detail or it seemed as if something would happen and you only realized it when the main character would say "oh and yesterday we decided ___". I didn't understand why the fight from yesterday was in the book but no other details.
Despite my complaint, the characters were appealing and the authors do a great job at keeping you guessing. Ready for the next one in the series.

Between her cousin Austin's death, meeting Gabe, living with her vicious Aunt and uncle, Dan is very creepy to me and her aunt makes her date him, to her mom's death...wow, Lexi is one tough cookie, but acts really stupid sometimes.

I was surprised by this book. I thought it was going to be boring and cheesy, it wasn't! I was hooked through the hole book with Lexi's quest to find out why her cousin was murdered. Little does she know what is actually going on in a town where there are vampires. The authors really keep you on the edge of your seat wondering who you can and can't trust. I would rate the book 3 1/2 starts because it does feel as though the book is rushed, but still is a page turner. Can't wait to see what happens next to Lexi! Well worth 99 cents!

lexi's cousin, mom, and friend? but yet she isn't totally freaked out. Her passiveness makes me dislike her as well as her being attracted to every guy in a mile radius. I do want to know more about all the unknown questions that I have after reading this book. This book has potential to get better as the series progresses. I can see lexi evolving as the series continue. I do enjoy the mystery and so far Gabriel is a pretty good character.

I really enjoyed this book! Lexi and her mother went back to Briar's Creek to attend the funeral home of Lexi's cousin, Austin. While visiting there, Lexi decided to find out what actually happened to Austin because she feels that people are hiding something about his death. Then things really start to happen! Don't miss this story if you love mysteries and vampires!

This would have been a better book if the author hadn't made the main character in the book such a "Dumb Blonde"!!! Even though she is only seventeen I think that most seventeen year girls are much smarter than you protray her. I wouldn't have bothered to read the whole series if I hadn't purchased them all at the same time. Your Howl series is so much better than this one!!!!

This book as just okay. The main character seemed pretty stupid at times, and she was pretty shallow. She showed zero emotion and it seemed like she didn't even remember that her mom was dead. The plot and the idea for this series is pretty imaginative and cool, but sometimes the first book can be a little shaky.

Seriously!!! I couldn't even finish the book!
The writing is terrible! The character development is non-existent!
I do NOT understand how this book is getting 5 stars!
Unfortunately for me I have all 7 books that I'm NOT going to get my money back on, not to mention the time I wasted reading half of the first book!

I'm unsure how to rate this book.
I liked the writing. It was great and entertaining.
But this book was a hot mess. It had me scratching my head a few times. I AM CONFUSED. I'm sure later books will clear that up, but I'm not sure if I want to continue.
I like these authors. So I'm on the fence about reading book 2....

The book is different. I don't get how she could keep being attracted to every guy that was nice to her call it low self esteem I guess. I get how she could like or even love Gabe but everyone else just seemed forced. I will see where the series goes and I hope the story gets less wishy washy.

Okay!!! This annoyed the crap out of me, when Lexi was out back in the beginning of the book with Dan when he attempted to kiss her she thought he was moving to fast. Then what happens? Not 2 minutes later she's throwing herself on Gabe and shoving her tongue in his mouth....

I would have loved to give this book a five, but I couldn't. The whole time I was reading it I wished that Lexi would just fight back. In a way she does, but I was still finding myself not liking the protagonist.
