Captive Surrender

Rate this book
As an intergalactic cop gifted with psionic abilities, Maurra instinctively went to the Ellinod's defense when she saw the immense and bestial-looking alien being attacked by a group of vicious Kronners. Little did she know what the Kronners had planned for her and the Ellinod until she woke up naked in a cell inside their ship. And it wasn't long before she found out a translation device had been implanted against her spine, debilitating her and making her helpless with pain whenever she tried to use her psi powers.

Neither she nor the Ellinod had any idea how twisted their captors were, but they soon discovered that she and the beast were at the mercy of someone who expected them to "entertain" his "customers", and entertain them well regardless of the consequences.

Warning: Contains moral degradation, public sex, self sacrifice, unexpected tenderness, sadistic little aliens, banishment, exorbitant Pay Per View charges, and sweet revenge served cold.

The entire time, all I could think about was the scene from Orange is the New Black when Crazy Eyes tells the prison psychologist about her alien erotica. So damn funny.

So this was my first 'alien' romance novel. I must say, I found it rather good. It took a while to get used to the different alien names and other 'futuristic' sayings, but once I did, I found myself unable to put this book down!

*3.25* Maurra, an intergalactic cop and Safan, a beastly sized Ellinod, are taken hostage, stripped naked, put in a cell, and told if they don't have sex live on camera for millions of paying customers, they will be killed.

It goes against galactic law for mixed species to fornicate so if they do have sex, they could be punished harshly by their own government. (Let's be honest, all those politicians were probably watching the live feed).

I kept thinking that they'd be killed aftwards anyway so why would they humiliate themselves just for the enemy to make bucket loads of cash?! The premise makes zero sense. And I do like my smutty books to make sense. Stop judging.

Yes, they have sex, yes he's MASSIVELY endowed so much so that it doesn't really fit. The customers love it and want new positions! It was so silly.

I soldiered on, and the book did get better. I still don't understand the emotional connection between them, other than the trauma they both survived in the beginning of the book.

🔥The hot claiming scene closer to the end was seriously intense, animalistic, raw, sounds-painful-but-fun-to-read. If you love a good monster/alien/human claiming, this one should make you happy.

This was an easy read that I enjoyed it is a tad predictable in places and it’s not an incredibly complicated story but it’s well written and I found myself engaged in the unfolding drama.

It’s a sci-fi romance and though it initially involves Safan and Maurra being kidnapped and thrown together in a captive situation and then being made to perform to the viewing masses it didn’t feel at all dark. This at heart is essentially a sweet romance rather than a dark one.

Maurra is a JoJo which is basically an intergalactic law enforcer with psionic powers.
whilst Safan is an Ellinod a large humanoid alien species.
In this story, different species are forbidden to copulate or mate the penalties for breaking this law are harshly enforced.

Thrown together in a situation beyond their control these two must mate or face death at the hands of their captors.
During this forever proximity the two forge a bond that lasts even after their escape.
But now they are dealing with the far-reaching consequences of their actions and far from being the victims they now stand accused and must answer and face charges from their own people.

So I did enjoy this it wasn’t perfect but made for easy reading.
I preferred the first half of this story when they were prisoners rather than later.
I thought they initially had chemistry together but this seemed to fade somewhat when they were eventually reunited together.

I disliked not getting Sagan’s POV and thought this a missed opportunity.
I never felt I got to understand him on any deeper level than the superficial because of this lack.
I also didn’t feel convinced of their eventual bond together which seemed to me to be one of circumstance rather than any great want.

There were no grand declarations of love to convince me either and I was also slightly confused why it was ok for them to be together now as they were obviously still breaking the law.
I kinda expected them to head to a different quadrant where maybe interspecies cohabiting is not forbidden.

Still, this was well written and I am partial to alien romances I also did finish this and as I said earlier it was enjoyable it just didn’t really stand out from the crowd either.
Saying that I did find the situation they are placed in intriguing.
I also will read this author again I’ve read other books by them and greatly enjoyed them.

You know, sometimes you just need a little dirty alien sex. And this book delivers that --in spades. Maurra is an intergalactic psionic cop... a JoJo. She can use her mind as a weapon, as well as her fists. And she has to do just that, when she witnesses a group attacking a giant alien at a bar. What she doesn't realize is, she is actually the target.

The bad guys knock her out and she awakens in captivity, along with the alien she comes to know as Safan. She quickly finds out that her captors plan to force them to have sex for a pay-per-view audience. Beyond the fact that they are strangers, the situation is more upsetting 1) because interspecies sex is a serious crime and 2) because Safan is an enormous male. Safan is humanoid, but he is a giant compared to Maurra... and he is, er, proportional. Yet, it's try or die.

The sex is actually pretty hot. Like, look around the room and see if anyone notices you sweating, hot. And it takes very little time for tender feelings to emerge between Maurra and Safan, despite the horror of their situation.

When the couple eventually escapes, they face condemnation from their own people. Maurra is stripped of her position and the consequences are even worse for Safan. But they manage to make their way back to each other and it gets even hotter from there.

The world here is pretty massive. And the book is a bit on the short side, more like a longer-novella. So there are a lot of things that are just touched on in broad strokes, especially when it comes to all the different races and planets. That might bother some people who like all that a bit more fleshed out. But when I read a book about hot alien sex, I'm satisfied with the focus on the down and dirty. And we definitely get that... with a good dash of action and a surprising bit of heart. I liked it. 4 stars.

You guys know I'm a mood reader, right? And, no, that's not a like a mood ring or anything. I don't even know how you could be a mood ring reader. Which is really not the point. I read what I'm in the mood to read when I'm in the mood to read it. Sometimes - like last night - I get in the mood for books about naughty, somewhat non-consensual sex between aliens. You know what? I'm secure enough in myself to admit that. I like naughty books that are set in space where aliens are doing it. I also like amnesiac vampires. That has nothing to do with this book, I'm just pointing out that I enjoy a wide range of subject matter. Wild sex between two nearly incompatible species just happens to be high upon my list of likes.

In other words, this book was AWESOME! Maurra is forced to have sex with an alien that she never would have chosen on her own and against all odds they begin to form a bond. They're being forced to break the law (inter-species sex is a no-no!) and they fight their weird attraction and it's perfectly AWESOME!

Both Safan and Maurra are strong characters who are willing to sacrifice themselves to save innocent lives. They take responsibility for their actions and handle the fallout from what they were forced to do with dignity. I honestly loved them as a couple and wouldn't be AT ALL adverse to reading more about their adventures.

Linda Mooney has created a vivid and interesting universe, a bad, bad man who wants to hurt those in authority and two people who come together and make things work under some pretty awful circumstances.

Hot alien sex, guys. I'm totally there.

I like this story because usually it would have ended once they escape their 'prison'. HOWEVER, Mooney kept going with the novel about the ramifications of them breaking their rules once they escaped.

Maurra has made a lot of enemies, an added bonus to her occupation duty. The whole plan was carefully planned for her to be captured along with Safan. He was picked because he had a big *cough, cough* 'asset'. Her humiliation would be that much greater, not to mention the whole concept of it being recorded (not going to give away too much).

I especially loved when she went back for him at the end of the novel. He is so surprised to see her after so many months had gone by. I just had to laugh and then sigh in awe.

Mooney somehow makes the novels universe seem much more realistic then normal sci-fi reads.

By far a steamy and lovable read :) Any romance sci-fi lover get your hands on this!

My first book from this author and I loved it! Maura is an intergalactic cop with psi abilities that she can use as a weapon. She tries to help a member of an alien species who is being attacked by another species (Kronners). It is all a setup and the Kronnors kidnap both Maurra and Safan, the Ellinod alien she was trying to help.

When she wakes up, she finds that her captors plan to force them to have sex for a pay-per-view audience. Beyond the fact that they are strangers, the situation is more upsetting 1) because interspecies sex is a serious crime and 2) because Safan is an enormous male. Safan is humanoid, but he is a giant compared to Maurra... and he is proportional. Yet, it's try or die.

The sex is actually pretty hot. But I really liked Safan as well. He was outraged at the injustice that was being done to him and to Maurra, while at the same time he was very gentle with Maurra and they quickly began to have feelings for each other. I found his species interesting.

This book actually has an interesting plot. Maurra's psi abilities are suppressed while in captivity by her captors. They implant a translation device against her spine, debilitating her and making her helpless with pain whenever she tried to use her psi powers. Unbeknownst to Maurra, her captors have a boss who has a history with Maurra and this becomes important as the plot unfolds.

They are eventually rescued, but it doesn't stop there. Safan is sent to a prison on a mining moon by his people for breaking the interspecies sex laws. Maurra loses her job as a JoJo (interstellar cop) and must come to terms with her feelings for Safan and what she intends to do about it.

This is not a long novel, so there is not a lot of explanations for everything. I was still able to follow everything. Surprisingly though, the interactions between Safan and Maurra are satisfying and hot, while at the same time, the plot keeps your attention. Highly recommended!

Meh... I skipped to the end, which was somewhat interesting with her breaking him out of prison, but then gave up. So this is a dnf.

The beginning was great! I loved the setup, but the first sex scene was horrible (and realistic, I'll give you that), and once they were freed it just went downhill from there. I may have had too high expectations...

When Maurra steps in to stop a fight between an Ellinod and Kronners outside a bar, she is taken out from behind by another Kronner. She wakes up naked in a cell on a ship with the Ellinod prisoner in another cell as well. Their captor demands that they have intercourse while being recorded so that he can broadcast to paying "customers", if they don't he will kill the Ellinod and bring in a less humanoid creature to fornicate with Maurra. The story follows Maurra and Safan while in captivity and even after wards while the face the repercussions of inter-species sex that they were forced to have. (you see that is a HUGE no no)

I really liked Safan. I thought he was a fascinating character and it wasn't because of his species. He was a strong minded and took control of the situation and even though he didn't know Maurra, he still had the drive to protect her. However, he was willing to pass the reins to Maurra and let her take charge and trust in that she knew what she was doing.

I thought the author did a good job with world building without overwhelming the reader with information. The characters were nicely developed to where you got a sense of who they were without taking pages to explain their back history, after all the story is only 186 pages long. The only thing I was a little bummed about was how predictable the story is. I was sort of hoping for a curve ball but even so the story was still good.

Favorite part
Safan is trying to get the ships computer to make him clothes but it isn't understanding the measurements he is giving it because his species is so large.
"It keeps giving me an error message." He growled. Fearing he might punch out the data board, Maurra pushed him aside to try for herself.
"Are you sure you entered your measurements correctly?"
"Four times."
After double checking his input, she pressed Enter. There was a moment of silence, followed by a click, and a message popped up on the display.
"Data does not compute. Do you want a blanket?"

I love Alien Romance stories, but I have a new twist on it.  I don’t want the alien to be just a larger version of a human male.  I want him to be an alien and for the two to find love despite their differences.

In Beauty’s Alien Beast, Maura is a Jojo, which is an intergalactic cop with psychic abilities.  She is a badass, no damsel in distress here.  She comes to the aid of an Ellinod who is being jumped.   That is when she and the Ellinod, Safan are captured.

In this author's world, interspecies breeding is against the law, and Maura and Safan are forced to perform sexual acts in front of a live streaming audience in order to humiliate and damage their reputations.

The situation Maura and Saran found themselves in was impossible because it was either perform or die.  Being in captivity the way they were, started a bond that only grew stronger.  Maura began to love Safan.

This story was so good because their world was so rigid and complex that even when they did what was right, it was wrong.  And the bad guy seemed to win.  I broke out in tears more than once reading this.

I loved this story, from the kickass heroin the very protective self-sacrificing hero, It was wonderfully complex, and I want more from this world.  I am giving it 5 Boundless Stars.

This was a short but really good story. Two people kidnapped and forced to have sex for pay per view. On top of this its also considered a crime. They escape only to be punished even though they were victims. I thought that was so wrong. The ending was great. The only thing I want to warn about is the sex scenes were really graphic and realistic. Otherwise it had great character, world building, and it was a good story.

There was a surprising amount of story in this considering it was "just" erotica. I liked the attempt to add an actual plot instead of it being a thinly veiled device to string sex scenes together, but it's too bad that much of it didn't really make much sense once I started thinking about it.

I lost track of how many times I reread this book over the summer after the initial purchase, but I'm making an effort to come back and review works I read from lesser-known authors to give them a signal boost.

Linda Mooney has a straight forward, slightly gritty writing style that I've commented in the past reminds me of a procedural drama on TV: it's not flashy, it's not flowery, it's Just The Facts, M'am, some of the conflicts are eye-rollingly easy to resolve, and it usually works pretty well for getting her story told—especially when her subjects are military or law enforcement, as they often are. They're romances with a touch of the erotic without being too explicit, but you'll still feel that rush and want the protagonists to get together in the end. Because she rarely uses genre tropes like instaromance...or dual POV... or a TSTL heroine... or an Alphahole protagonist, there's something satisfying about them. They're muted gems. Subtle and easy to overlook, but worth consuming if you should happen to notice them.

Beauty's Alien Beast is the story of Maurra, a human woman with psionic abilities and JoJo (galactic policing force), and Safan, an Ellinod law enforcement officer. Circumstances line up just right to throw these two into a shared kidnapping ordeal and both are exploited and forced to break galactic law 13 or die. They choose to comply, escape, and both suffer steep consequences for their choice to live and be shamed. Maurra's punishment stings, but it's Safan's that is the most serious.

To quote Agent Bubbles from Lilo and Stitch, "Aliens are all about rules."

Those Ellinod do not mess around, to be sure.

The relationship in this story builds in a way that feels organic and it's easy to believe that these two did indeed bond in a significant and meaningful way during their time together. They're Ride or Die. They're partners who take turns driving. They're both strong. They're both vulnerable. They each have unique strengths and training they bring to the table. Even though this story is told from Maurra's POV, it's not hard to be pretty confident what is going on with Safan in most scenes, even when she's not.

I would love to hear about some of their adventures after this story ends.

I did tag this in my Problematic shelf for one reason: instead of having Maurra constantly trying to guess Ellinod genders/sexes and tripping over pronouns, it would be easier to have her use singular "they" when she's unsure. This work was written before pronouns became a hot topic of discussion, but I think that's something that could use an update in this. Surely so far in the future that would be common practice. Or maybe humanity could be over having to try and assign everyone a category based on a binary. ;)

Well hello!
Captive Surrender by Linda Mooney
Summary:
Maurra, our heroine, is a intergalactic cop with psi abilities who happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time... Or is she? A JoJo has a responbility to protect and she's very serious about it. In a heroic attempt to help an Ellinoid, she finds herself being taken along with him by very cunning bad aliens. Kronnans are sly sneaky bastards who have very cruel plans for them.

description
Points to take in account
a) Erotic, kinky, naughty-scifiand romance novel.
b)I love this writer's style. Linda is a very clear writer. She describes and narrates events in a very unique way.Making an enjoyable understandable read. It doesn't confuse or have vague data that flies around with no purpose.
c)Both characters ar relatable and very likable.
d) The pace and story-building is almost like a movie. Has the right timing for every event, not boring you even once and making the questionable journey not only acceptable, but tangible. I was drawn into the story very easily.
e)The main plot itself would be a perfect hentai movie or serie. The pervy japanese imagination or tendency is there. Its very popular part in the genre. For those of you who don't know what hentai means, this equals perversion, which is porn for the japanese animation industry. Where yes... you may find a lot of fucked-up stuff, perversion, but there is also normal stuff so don't freak. As I said, the plot is simple, but it is enjoyable and has an interesting twist in the end that will melt your heart.
f) What surprised me, is that despite the perversion and degrading situation Maurra is forced into, she still keeps the bad-ass essence in her. She is a very strong, inteligent, sensitative down to earth character. And she manages to remain strong through the whole book. Which was a breath of fresh air, because it was handled wonderfully in a surprising down to earth way. Not like a superheroe, but like someone who knows her way around with good instincts of survival and a crazy deathwish.
g)Maurra is also lucky her partner and cellmate is this Ellinoid, Safan. Who looks like this>
description
Big gray guy with horns. Very big guy! And he is all honorable and fuzzy tender inside. And they make a great couple.

SO!!! A 4.5 for this erotic novel, which stood out for a good story, lovable characters and acceptable plot!

Redonk nutshell: Psi-space cop and huge horned alien are captured by rogue aliens and forced to have sex while being filmed

Okay. I'd be lying if I said I didn't giggle while writing the above. But literally, this is, more or less, the first half of Captive Surrender by Linda Mooney. The second half is our hero & heroine dealing with the repercussions of their actions, emotionally and, well, lawfully.

This was my first read by Linda Mooney, and I had no qualms with her style. I enjoyed the world she created, though we don't get the full taste of it. Captive Surrender is a novella, a tease into the world Ms. Mooney has created. Our heroine, Maurra, is the alpha here, while her hero, Safan takes shotgun as Beta. And that's okay - it works. They play off each other fairly well.

This novella tangos between erotica and romance. It gets fairly graphic at times, though the romantic conflict takes precedence as the story progresses. To me it felt rushed, and I didn't really believe the connection these two felt for one another.

Long story short, Captive Surrender makes for a great quickie. Steamy, sensual, and adventurous.

The best part was the sample, it went really downhill after that, but I couldn’t bring myself to DFN because I f’ing payed for it.

The mc was considerably ignorant of her own world. She’s supposed to be a top notch GALACTIC whatever, but didn’t know sh*t about planets and peoples under her jurisdiction. I’d say that would make you pretty sh*t at your GALACTIC job.
She certainly didn't come across as the sharpest tool in the shed.

The sex was meh, and it didn’t help that they practically had whole conversations during said sex that did not add to it in any way. Not sweet or sexy, just awkward and felt like filler just to make the scenes last longer.

The other low reviews have already pointed out the other things I found wrong with this "book", just go read those, I'm not gonna bother repeating it.

I want my money back.

This book was a great surprise. I was just expecting a wee book mostly revolving around sex and had passed it up numerous times while browsing for something new. But the characters were compelling and the plot was nicely paced and involved. The world building was nicely done too. I loved the strength of the heroine. The nicest surprise was how sweetly romantic the hero and heroine are together. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this author!

It was different than the usual sci-fi romance in that both the main characters were captive, when usually it's the woman abducted by the alien and then falls in love with him.

Yoo I love the mating scene so much lmao.

We got Maurra, a high-ranking JoJo (intergallactic police) with psi powers. And Safan, a grey humanoid alien and a law enforcer in his planet. They met at a bar where Safan was jumped by small aliens. Maurra stepped in to help him before she got knocked out when she wasn't looking.

Maurra and Safan woke up in a cell on a ship and were told to have sex so the aliens could live stream it. Interspecies sex was illegal because of the mutations it caused the offspring to have, so they were punished when they managed to escape despite their circumstances.

Safan was sentenced to the mines for life, but Maurra only got her job stripped from her. When Maurra heard that there was a riot happening in the mines, she bought an old spacecraft and immediately went there.

Maurra managed to get through by saying that her ship broke down. Coincidentally, the prisoners blasted the gates open and took her and the guards as hostages. Safan was a part of the escapee group but turned on them when it was safe to do so. Maurra held back the prisoners when they burst out, and the warden was grateful to her. He also against their harsh sentencing, so he deviced a fake hostage situation to get them out of the planet.

There was a will they won't they moment between Maurra and Safan as they were both unsure continuing their forbidden relationship that was done quite well. But ultimately, Safan took her as his mate. I like how unique the mating ritual was. The claim mark was him running his teeth along her spine--ouch, but cool.

They landed on another planet and got some cargo shipping work to earn credits before they could go after the guy who devised the livestream. Their client ended up being a decoy for this guy, and Safan was captured. Maurra went in and saved him. I wished there were more of a collaboration between the two during escapes because I feel that the action was a bit one-sided, like the author forgot about Safan being there and didn't know what to do with him lmao.

They brought in the guy to Safan's planet with an audio recording of the guy's confession. He was sentenced to the mines, and Safan was set free. Maurra and Safan decided to be bounty hunters for a while before he could access his trustfund. Law enforces in his planet requiring candidates to be rich was hilariously corrupted lmao.

Some parts of this book were really well thought out and clever, but some were just meh and contradicted previous actions. It's definitely a sit back enjoy and turn off your brain book. The writing wasn't my favorite. I had to go back several times to really understand the visual details. The book saying that Maurra had red hair at like 75% was wild. Or maybe I missed that detail, idk. There really wasn't that much chemistry between the couple, but they're sweet. Overall, it kept me engaged and it was a nice semi-short read.

It started off different and interesting and promising but I feel like once they escaped it lost its way. Minor minor spoilers:

I don't know if it's just me but I feel like she slightly dumbed down in their interactions with each other/their relationship versus how she is outside of that. Not in the beginning in the cage but in their "regular" interactions.
I didn't like how he wasn't 100% forthright. He made made the distinction that he's never lied to her but I still didn't like him letting her think they were broke. Honestly is the best policy 😄
They never shared their feelings with one another. She asked the morning after he mated her but he skirted (understandable at that point) and it never got brought up again. If it doesn't happen by the end when they're obviously spending their lives together then it's not so understandable anymore.
Maybe I missed something but why is it cool for them to be together at the end? They are still a different species. They paid their dues for their past "indiscretion" but why do they now get to repeat it (of their own volition) without penalty?
Would have been nice to get his pov too.

So different sooo good!

This was my first book by this author, but I can guarantee it won't be my last. This story was amazing from the beginning. Our make hero was truly alien with slight humanoid features. Strong, brave honorable and very sexy in his own right. Our heroine was also Beautiful, strong, smart and more open minded than any of the others around her. The story had all the elements of a scfi romantic action adventure. I cared about the characters and wanted them to be together despite all the odds. Real love 💘is what you'll find developing between unlikely lovers. And the words I love you are never uttered but deeply felt throughout the story. I highly recommended you read this story!😍

Great style, adventurous romance

My first book by this author, really enjoyed the writing style, not disappointed to have purchased the book (usually borrow with ku subscription), it was worth it.

Mooney drops you directly into a new world and gives you exactly as much info as you need WHEN you need it, she doesn’t bog you down with heavy backstory. She fills you in so you never feel lost, but also don’t get bored. Sex is well written, you get a good feel on the characters POV mentally. Would have enjoyed one more sex scene that was on the sweeter side, but that’s me being nitpicky.

Enjoyable

The beginning was a bit shaky situation wise. As in it seemed like this was heading in a dark romance path, but then diverted into a good alien romance. Unique characters and enjoyable space travel adding in the ship. I always enjoy when alien romances involve ships / space travel to at least some degree. Happy ending. No cliff hangers. I would have preferred this being under Kindle Unlimited, but I was having a hard time finding anything else on KU today in alien romance I wanted to read.

I picked up this book on a total whim at a used book store. The beginning of this book was awesome! So sexy and hot and ridiculous that it had me cackling. 4 stars for the first third. Then it started to go downhill and not quite live up to the beginning of the book. The sex went away and there was a lot more about a rescue mission which was not as well written or as interesting as the first third. So 2 stars for the rest of the book. I am definitely willing to read more by this author. This book also confirmed that I will love more alien romance!

Down But Not Out

Murray and Safan was kidnapped by a vicious enemy. It started a cascade of enormous happenings. Mirada had a beautiful awakening with emotions she never allowed herself. Safan had found his mate with a human, no doubt. This is a surprising beautiful love story with some speed bumps. It is definitely a book for adults only, but what a book.

Audiobook Review - Well dayum, I wasn't expecting that but I loved it! Kick ass heroine cop and beastie alien male cop who are kidnapped by other little creepy aliens only to be forced to make illegal pornos for profit and revenge.
It's forbidden love with consequences but eventually has a HEA. Totally here for it 👍🤯👏
