لقد كان جون ستيوارت ميل (1806 - 1873)، أحد أعظم فلاسفة السياسة في القرن التاسع عشر، يعتقد أن الجماعات الثقافية الصغيرة تتخلى عن ثقافتها الموروثة لكي تنضم إلى ثقافة الأمم الأقوى، أما فلاسفة السياسة الآن فهم أكثر إنصافا من "مل"، إذ تراهم يدافعون عن الأقليات في جميع أنحاء العالم و يطالبون بحقوقهم، كما يسعون إلى الاعتراف بالتعددية الثقافية و ما يتفرع عنها من "حقوق للأقليات"، وهي حقوق تؤثر بدورها في مفهوم العدالة و المساواة، ومن ثم في التطبيق الصحيح للديموقراطية.
وهذا الكتاب الذي نقدمه اليوم عن "التعددية الثقافية" يهم القارئ العربي على وجه الخصوص، لندرة ما يكتب عن هذا الموضوع باللغة العربية من ناحية، ولأنه يناقش من ناحية أخرى "حقوق الأقليات" على اختلاف أنواعها: أقليات لم نهتم بها، ربما ﻷننا لم نفرغ بعد من السعي وراء حقوق الأغلبية.

و من المفيد دراسة و توثيق أوضاع الأقليات بصورة متكاملة كوسيلة لتقدير حجمها الحقيقي، و البحث عن وسائل لحل مشاكلها، أو على الأقل لتقليص المعاناة التي يواجهها كثير من أفراد تلك الأقليات

Will Kymlicka received his B.A. in philosophy and politics from Queen's University in 1984, and his D.Phil. in philosophy from Oxford University in 1987. He is the author of seven books published by Oxford University Press: Liberalism, Community, and Culture (1989), Contemporary Political Philosophy (1990; second edition 2002),Multicultural Citizenship (1995), which was awarded the Macpherson Prize by the Canadian Political Science Assocation, and the Bunche Award by the American Political Science Association, Finding Our Way: Rethinking Ethnocultural Relations in Canada (1998), Politics in the Vernacular: Nationalism, Multiculturalism and Citizenship (2001), Multicultural Odysseys: Navigating the New International Politics of Diversity (2007), which was awarded the North American Society for Social Philosophy’s 2007 Book Award, and Zoopolis: A Political Theory of Animal Rights (2011), co-authored with Sue Donaldson, which was awarded the 2013 Biennial Book Prize from the Canadian Philosophical Association

He is currently the Canada Research Chair in Political Philosophy at Queen's University, and a visiting professor in the Nationalism Studies program at the Central European University in Budapest. His works have been translated into 32 languages. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, of the Canadian Institute For Advanced Research, and a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. From 2004-6, he was the President of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy.

حقوق الانسان أم حقوق الأقليات؟
الفرد أم الجماعة؟
المواطنة والمساواة بين الجميع أم سياسات في صالح الجماعات الاثنية الأقلية لضمان انهم يتمتعون بالمساواة ايضاً؟
الأشكال المختلفة للتعددية الثقافية والسياسات المناسبة لكل شكل منهم وإلي أي مدي يتم تطبيقها

الكتاب مهم جداً في التعددية الثقافية.

يطرح ويليام كيمليكا وهو فيلسوف سياسي كندي اشتهر بعمله في التعددية الثقافية وأخلاقيات الحيوان. يعمل حاليًا أستاذًا للفلسفة وكرسي أبحاث كندا في الفلسفة السياسية بجامعة كوينز في كينغستون ، وأستاذ زائر متكرر في برنامج دراسات القومية في جامعة أوروبا الوسطى في بودابست ، المجر. لأكثر من 20 عامًا ، عاش أسلوب حياة نباتي ، وهو متزوج من الكاتبة الكندية والناشطة في مجال حقوق الحيوان سو دونالدسون، في كتابه السياسات الدولية الجديدة في التنوع والتي اثبتت فشلها في ازمة الهاجرين في الوقت الحالي.
ويضرب امثلة جميعها سقطت سواء في أوروبا او في خراجها وخصوصا في بلهده كندا البتي لا زالت ترفض المزيد من المهاجرين بسبب التعددية الثقافية.
