Yuki Yamimoto has a problem with billionaires. She knows it, her Mermaid Airlines flight crew know it, and so does her friend and former flight attendant co-worker, Sinead. Okay, maybe it’s one billionaire in particular who she’s obsessed with: Declan Moriarty, the charming, wavy-haired, Irish CEO she met years ago when she worked in a hotel in Melbourne. They accidentally shared a one-night-stand in his hotel suite, then Yuki got fired into the bargain. It was totally worth it, at the time. Until it wasn’t. Declan was the one who got away, the big fish she’d failed to reel in. The man who broke her heart. When Sinead invites Yuki to her last-minute second-wedding/renewal of vows/luxury getaway weekend, Yuki jumps at the chance to go. After being publicly dumped and humiliated by her ex-boyfriend in Singapore, Yuki needs to escape. It’s only when she boards the flight to Thailand that she realises Declan may be invited too. After all, he’s good friends with Gabriel, Sinead’s gorgeous, entrepreneur husband. Now it’s panic-stations, as Yuki tries to work out how to be devastatingly sexy, cool as a cucumber, mature and sophisticated, and NOT a total disaster. Piece of cake! But when she sees Declan again, he’s as handsome as ever, and everything starts to go wrong . . .
2.5 Stars. Nice on the romance but lacks on comedy.
I picked up the book because I thought a novella with a tropical wedding theme in my favorite genre, romcom, would be quite fun.
What I liked:
• Loved the wedding scenes! • I also liked the side characters and I can see why this series has been a hit between fans. I'll pick up other books of the series too in the future!
What I wasn't a fan of:
Sadly, the book is more on the romance part than on the comedy. Instead of spicy scenes, I think they should've been better spent on adding depth to the characters.
I received an e-arc of the book from Booksirens free of charge but that doesn't affect my review.
Firstly, the girl was not on a layover. She was a flight attendant, but she was on vacation. I guess you could interpret it metaphorically and it would make sense.
This was a pretty fun and cute romance novella overall. There were a few little things that irritated me. The whole idea of a destination wedding for two people who had already been married for 5 years was hard for me to get behind. Also the idea that the side character was having lots of wild, honeymoon-stage sex in a 5 year relationship while 3 months pregnant with *twins*... like honestly, would be the last thing I felt like doing.
There was definitely a lot of mis/lack of communication between the main characters which I find annoying, and the way he kept calling her "Miss Yuki" was creepy to me. I would have liked a little more explanation of why things ended so badly between them in the past when it was something an extremely simple conversation would have cleared up.
They did have quite a sweet relationship though and the male character was a cinnamon roll which is my favourite kind of MMC.
There were 2-3 spicy scenes, I'm sure they're fine, I don't read them.
I think if you're easily pleased in the romance genre and want something quick, fun and sweet with some spice, you'll enjoy it.

I thought this would be a nice easy read for a cosy afternoon in front of the fire. I like the occasional chick lit especially if it's humerous. This was utter rubbish.

Yuki isn't looking forward to attending her best friends vow renewal. Not because she wasn't happy for her, but she just knew he'd be there. Declan was the one that ghosted her after an extraordinary few weeks were she thought she'd meant something to him, but no not a word in the last eight years. It couldn't have come at a better time she needed to get away after being dumped by her ex and to cruelly find his new fiance was pregnant. Declan was happy for his best friend happily married and renewing his vows in a private resort. He was still coming to terms with his disastrous relationship two years ago, totally off women in general. That is until in the airport terminal is Yuki, the one that got away, she totally ghosted him eight years ago. This book is brilliant, it's funny, romantic and total you won't want to put it down. From monkeys stealing phones, men falling out of trees and secret escapes this has it all. Can these two finally find their hea or are the past misunderstandings to big to get over. I loved it all. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC copy and this is my own personal and honest opinion and review of the book. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Thank you Booksiren, and of course, Cassandra O’Leary for the opportunity to read this novella before the date of its publication.
‘Girl on a Layover’ follows Yuki, a young flight attendant, who takes a well-deserved leave to travel to a luxury resort in Thailand for her best friend’s vow renewal. What should just be an intimate occasion becomes intimidating for Yuki, as she’s very recently been through a break-up, and she’s convinced that another ex from her past will be a guest.
As it turns out, her intuition was spot on - Declan is indeed in attendance, and to her surprise, he is sweeter and more irresistible than ever. Yuki’s initial plans for a restful and relaxing layover take an unexpected turn as she contemplates whether giving the one that got away a second chance might not be such a bad idea.
I really enjoyed this! In fact, I didn’t want it to end.
‘Girl on a Layover’ had every layer of a classic romantic comedy. Just as it made me smile and laugh, it made me tear up, and my goodness, it had me swooning!
The chemistry of the characters was chef’s kiss, the setting of the story was enviable, and the sequence of events carried the perfect mix of sweet and spicy scenes.
It was my first read of Cassandra O’Leary’s, but it certainly won’t be the last!
Yuki had met Declan years ago when she worked in a hotel in Melbourne and they had really hit it off. Then she got fired and he ghosted her and she hasn't heard from him since. But she will be seeing him again at her friend's vow renewals. Funny thing is, Declan also feels that Yuki ghosted him and thinks of her as the one that got away. They see each other at the airport terminal and it's like no time has passed at all. Their feelings are still just as strong for each other. These two have a second chance with each other to clear up misunderstandings and be happy, but will they take it or let the misunderstandings stand in their way?
This was a sweet, swoon-worthy, and fun romance and I had a delightful time reading it. The characters were likable and the chemistry really sizzled between them. A very enjoyable read!

Girl on a Layover is a second chance romance that hits the spot! Yuki and Declan have previously met, fell in lust and then separated in a whirlwind of hurt. An unexpected run in at their mutual friends wedding is the setting for the rest so the story. Yuki and Declan were really likeable characters who were each dealing with past heartaches and betrayals. They were both deep down good people with strong friendships and solid lives. Yuki and Declan have chemistry for sure but I was impressed with his protective but respectful behavior towards her in spite of his desires. I wanted them to find their happily ever after, if they could. This was my first book by Cassandra O'Leary and it was an enjoyable, easy read. I know there are other books in this series that introduces the readers to the world of Girl on the Plane. Time to check them out! I received an advanced review copy and am leaving this review voluntarily as based on my reading experience,
Cassandra O'Leary's Girl on a Layover is a fun read. If you are short on time, this is a dose of humor, mayhem, and sexiness you need.
Yuki and Declan have history. But the reasons for the initial conflict are confusing and weak; when the truth from the past is revealed, it sets the two up for a fast reconciliation. However, that doesn't help the two reconcile the damage toxic relationships have done to both of them in the interim of their initial parting.
Thrown together for their good friends' wedding, Yuki and Declan sizzle together. While supporting their friends, they can't help but rekindle the flames.
As a whole, I enjoyed this next book in O'Leary's series. At times, the story felt rushed, and while I had read the initial short where Yuki and Declan hooked up, it felt I was still missing some pieces. Enjoyable characters and the monkey were awesome!

(I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.) This was my first ARC read as well as the first Cassandra O'Leary book I've read. I read the book in one sitting -- which is a rarity with the number of books I read at a time. Girl on a Layover is a sweet and pleasurable read. If you're looking for a second-chance romance and the 'one that got away' kinda happy story with a very appealing Irish lead character (hint, hint), then pick this up. Yuki is a fun, sassy girl who is trying to figure out life after a disaster of a boyfriend - totally relatable. The sweet yet hot chemistry between the leads is swoonworthy! I even loved how panic attacks & anxiety is normalised in the narrative -very well done. I am definity going to read the rest of the series :)
I received a digital ARC of this book. This is the third in the series and should be read in order to truly make the most sense. Yuki and Sinead were flight attendants together and had become bff’s, so of course she agreed to be the maid of honor in her destination wedding. What she hadn’t thought about was the fact that Declan, the one who got away and broke her heart into a million pieces, might be the best man because he was the groom’s bff. No problem. She would just avoid him as much as possible while they were there. Declan however was looking forward to her being there so he could find out why she left him all those years ago. He’d never found anyone like her and had never gotten over her. You won’t want to stop turning the pages to find out if Declan and Yuki will work things out and find their way back to each other.
Yuki Yamimoto agreed to participate in her friend Sinead’s renewal of her wedding vows with Gabriel. Just staying in a luxury resort will make it worthwhile and maybe even restful. However, Gabriel is friends with one particular billionaire she wants to forget. She and Declan Moriarty once had a one-night-stand and spent some fun time together. Then he cheated with his ex and she walked out on him. He will no doubt be at this celebration, and she doesn’t want to see him. Experiencing other heartaches along the way, Declan thought he was through with love. But when he sees Yuki again, he is ready to start over with her… just a fling. Will it work out for them? Or will they find they are ready for more?
Together at last - Yuki and Declan are thrown together for Sinead and Gabriel's second wedding. Years ago a lie tore them apart after an intimate tete a tete and she has never forgiven him for her pain. How will she survive the weekend when deep down she still misses him so much? And her life has imploded since a very public breakup.
Declan's been burned too but it doesn't change the fact that his heart races nonstop when he's around Yuki. It was a delight to read how he executed his plan to woo her back to him.
A great short story with wonderful characters, including a phone-grabbing monkey and a stubborn cow.

Yuki is quirky. She is a flight attendant who fangirls over business tycoons. There is only one she avoids at all costs - her former love, Declan.
Yuki is on her way to her friend's vow renewal (Sinead and Gabriel from Girl on a Plane). She has a sinking feeling that Declan will be there, too - he is one of Gabriel's best friends.
Declan is a successful businessman, but keeps away from any romantic relationships. He is concerned about gold diggers. But when he sees Yuki for the first time in years, he is rethinking his stand on relationships!
Thank you Booksirens, and Cassandra O’Leary for the advanced copy.
Yuki is a flight attendant, who takes a short break to attend her best friend's wedding vow renewal at a luxury resort in Thailand. However, Declan the grooms best friend is also attending and Yuki has history with Declan. The sparks that were between them are still there but Yuki is trying to get over a public break-up and is struggling to give Declan a second chance.
This was a really lovely book, and I can't wait for the next one.

She hoped that she wouldn't run into her ex Declan, the guy who broke her heart years ago, due to a misunderstanding. As the short vacation goes on the attraction between Declan and Yuki grows. I have loved every book in this series. Yuki is so much fun and a spitfire kinda girl. It seems that fate is on her side when she runs into the one that got away at her bff's wedding. Sparks fly as soon as they see each other and its like no time has passed. This is a swoomy story that had passion and true love all wrapped up in one. Book 2 in O'Leary's Girl on a Plane series. I liked this one as I felt like it could be a standalone in this series. It follows the journey of airline attendant Yuki and billionaire Declan. These two have a bit of a history and while it started off well, it ended not so well - until.... A short, well written romance read with good characters and a fun, smooth flowing storyline.

I loved girl on a plane, and it was good to catch up with the characters again in girl on a layover. It had all the wit and irish charm that I loved from the first book. Yuki & sinead have such a great friendship. There was a slow burn build up to the relationship between Yuki & Declan and then it really took off. Hopefully there'll be more books in this series.

Second in the series but follow Yuki and Declan. I hadn't read the first story, but didn't impact my reading experience. Yuki is a flight attendant, attending her best friends vow renewal in Thailand. However the grooms best man is Declan, and the two have history. Can they make a go of it a second time round, or will the scars of her recent break up ruin it before it can be rekindled.

This was again a fun and easy read. Very enjoyable. The chemistry between Declan and Yuki is off the charts and very steamy. There even was some drama ( with her ex Daniel) and some fun( with the rain and the wedding). I loved seeing Gabriel and Sinead again as well.
This is a fun series to read.

The sequel to Cassandra O'Leary's Girl on a Plane, sees Sinead's best friend, Yuki, take centre stage. In the midst of a wedding on a gorgeous tropical island, Yuki gets her second chance with Declan in this steamy romantic comedy.

This is such a cute story. It does have a little mention of some relationship trauma in the red-carpet light but it's not bad. I love how Declan goes out of his way for Yuki. I love the idea of a married couple redoing their vows with a whole new wedding. This is exactly what Declan's and Yuki's friends are doing in paradise. Who doesn't love paradise. This story is about Yuki and her life.

This is such a light and happy novella! I enjoyed reading Yuki and Declan’s story. If you like second chance romance with a little bit of spice, this is the novella for you.
I love the character Yuki. She’s so much fun and she’s kind of feisty. I’m glad that she got to reconnect with someone that slipped her fingers before. It’s like a chance encounter. It was a beautiful story. I received an advance review copy for free and leaving this review voluntarily.
I hope readers will enjoy Girl on a Layover, my fun second chance romcom featuring Yuki and Declan from the prequel novella, Girl Under The Christmas Tree. I had a great time writing it!
This is just a fun, light read novel. I enjoy Sinead, Gabriel, Declan and Yuki. I am looking forward to the next book in the series that centers on Bridie.
