Men. I didn’t know I was interested until I met Pierce Cloud. Rugged, rich, adventurous, masculine as hell—he’s everything I didn’t know I craved.
But he’s my fiancée’s father. Off-limits.
If only we didn’t need him to fund the wedding, then I might be able to say no when he asks us to join him for a seven-day Caribbean cruise.
I’m not sure I can handle being on a small ship in the middle of the ocean with Pierce in such close proximity. He’s my future father-in-law... so why do I get the feeling he’s about to turn my life, and my sexuality, inside out?
Pierce:
I don’t do settling down. That’s why my daughter and I have our arrangement: I fund her life, and we both get to do what we want. I thought she took after me, until I get the news she’s getting married.
From the moment I meet August Taylor, I know something isn’t right. He looks at me like he wants to see me naked, and hell if I don’t feel the same way: His dark beard, the hint of a tattoo under his suit-jacket sleeve...
More than that, though, I get the feeling August is hiding something, and I’m determined to figure out what, before he seals the deal with my daughter. So I invite them both on a seven-day Caribbean cruise, free of charge.
When August and I start cruising each other instead of the ocean, it’s clear something has sparked between us. But just how far can we take it before the truth comes out?
From New York City to Cozumel, Jamaica and back again, Cruising Future Father-in-Law is a contemporary m/m romance that is full of taboo sex, steam, and true love despite crazy—and sometimes, very awkward—odds.

Plus points: 1) The first half was hot as fuck. 2) This book was a page turner, I read this in one sitting.
I thought this would be a 4 star, at first, however, it fell down the rabbit hole after the first half. I HATE the OM in this story. Not only the author did not put any warnings on an MF scene, but OM? bffr. Despite the scenes not being objectional, it left a distaste to the story.
The tone of the storyline feel dry sometimes which made me snort because it’s awkward lol. The formal tone made the monologues cringey akin to AI coded lol. The plot is predictable, the writing needs editing, and the repetitions need to calm down. LOL (I started to notice this around 60% that’s how good the first half was)
Their sexual tension was what made me give this higher than it’s supposed to be because 😩💦🥵 BUT at the end of the day it was merely sex for them. Nothing deeper than that. Just plain repeated sex. I can’t say much on that since this is the first book in the series. Now, I’m not too sure if I’ll read the duet after the ridiculous storyline in this one 😂
I accidentally reviewed the short teaser instead of the real book. I notice that the second book isn’t even listed on Goodreads. Neither book is on Amazon anymore.
Was it the best book I’ll read this year? No. Did it make sense? No. Were the characters likeable? No But did I have a good time? Yes 😅
The thing is, I went in knowing I was only picking this for the forbidden trope. I didn’t expect anything deep so I was not disappointed.
Honestly, on top of the fact that their attraction/relationship is too rushed to feel real (especially considering what’s at stake for both) there were also some things that didn’t make sense. (Mini spoilers ahead) - How come Pierce didn’t hear August and Chris when they argued in their room (next to his) and when she threw a phone at his face? - How come Chris was awake enough to hear her dad having sex next door on the first night BUT didn’t realise her fiance had left the bed and their room? - Chris and August have been together for “just over a year” but own a condo (in NYC)?? Even though August isn’t rich and struggle to buy a plane ticket at the end?? - The story with the open couple in Paris felt a bit random. Not sure what was the point of them 🤔
Honestly if you go in just for a fun forbidden romance it’s a nice read even though you can’t help but feel like they’re all terrible people. Pierce is an awful father and the couple is not better.
Like often in those cheating story you’re not supposed to be rooting for Chris anyway. If you weren’t sure about it you just have to read the line about how, while Pierce was reading his well used copy of Ulysses, his daughter was reading the latest Danielle Steel. AKA she’s not cultured like him and not good enough for August who wants to see more of the world….To be honest you kind of wonder why he was with her in the first place since they don’t have much in common.
Oh and if you’re wondering how far the cheating trope goes: in the same night August has sex with his girlfriend Chris, then goes next door to have sex with her dad so be prepared if it’s not for you😂
Oh it had one issue that I hate in fiction: a big moment happens between the 2MC and then we move on to the next day, pretending nothing happened after the scene or that the characters didn’t talk in between. I hate this it doesn’t make sense at all.
Oh and Chris was also quite stupid because if your partner locks himself in his office at night when you are in bed, there’s a reason 💦😜

This trope is usually my jam. Buuuut this was all very shallow feeling. It didn’t seem like August and Chrissy had any kind of relationship at all and Chrissy and Pierce had like zero relationship, that they’d been happily maintaining for years. So all the angst and back and forth just made the characters seem even shallower and more depthless. Then Chrissy’s big outing of August, to the uber religious parents he distanced himself from, because of their religion, after she was also cheating on August, just seemed so petty when why would she even care? And August’s reaction to that outing is now going to be a whole angsty back and forth book? He’s already been, seemingly, happily without his judgey, religious family for years. So like twelve hours after telling Pierce he wants to see where their relationship goes and it’s all wrapped-up, one phone call from estranged parents causes another book? That’s a no for me.
This is the first book I’ve read by Clay Walker; I wish I’d known it was a cliffhanger (my fault maybe). Having said that I thought it was a decent story and would like to find out what happens next.
It’s also the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Colter Mertlich. His narration wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. His pacing was off and I thought it was a bit choppy. This is the only audiobook I can find under this name so I hope he will improve as he narrates more books.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
I adored this book so much! You can tell Clay Walker was passionate about this book. It is the right amount of taboo for me, and I can't wait to keep going! I need to know what happens next!
