A solid, quick read that will leave some wanting more, while others will be fully sated. Not much mystery, and fairly formulaic, but good characters save the day.
Not a bad story... Lovable characters, i love the part when they where playing strip poker or whatever it was they where playing... good read.. Right now reading Jace and Sheyna's story good so far..
I hope she does a story about the other brother and sister Bianca
This book made me cry like a baby! I could totally relate to Brenna's fear of being heartbroken by Jabarie again but I'm so happy his determination and unwavering love won her over!
Because I was disappointed by " In the Company of My Sistahs" and the "Seduced into Submission" series by Angie Daniels, which was supposedly BDSM but was nothing but lite porn; I was hesitant to read other books by her.
After checking, I found that I had "The Second Time Around" since 2020 but had never read it. I overcame my hesitancy and finally read it and was pleasantly surprised. It was better than the other books I read by this author.
Because I love reading romance books with African-American famiies, I enjoyed Brenna's and Jabari story. Brenna got on my nerves with her refusing to get over the hurt she thought Jabari had caused her. Jabari was too good to be true even though he didn't understand why Brenna had left him at the altar five years ago.
Clearly there was a huge misunderstanding both blamed each other for what happened. Even when Brenna found out that Jabari's parents interfered without his knowledge, she was still afraid to admit her love for him. Still she willingly had sex with him.
Because Jabari thought she left him for money, he was decided to get her out of his mind by having sex with her. Once he found out what his parents had done, he was determined to prove his life for her.
Yes, Jabari "wooed" her until she admitted her love for him. I enjoyed the book enough that I'll probably read another book in the series.
Brenna was holding on to the past hurt, pain, and disappointment to keep her heart guarded to never love again. Her perception of things weren't accurate and she didn't hold herself accountable, it was always someone else's fault. Jabarie was just as stubborn as Brenna. He held her accountable for the past but didn't see that he too was at fault. The two had to learn from the past, forgive in order to have a future.
I wanted to really like this book but I couldn't . Brenna wanted Jabarie to love her and fight for her when she wouldn't fight for him. It was just too much. And what was so special special about her that made him keep coming back everyday. It just wasn't believeable. I love Angie ' s writing but his one missed the mark for me.
It is hard to trust again after being dissapointed. Jabari was fighting for love but Brenna had a tough time believing in second chances because two of the people who should have protected her did not fight for her.
The Second Time Around ( The Beaumont Series Book 1
This is a great book, I truly enjoyed it, I am so glad they finally got things figured out, and worked them out. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Good book. I’m glad Brenna Jabarie decided to give love another chance. Jabarie’s parents were wrong for running Brenna off. Hopefully Jace & Sheyna figure things out. Forgiving someone for yourself is always good; however forgetting is definitely hard to do.
Reading this book was a great read for me. I would put the book down and when I would start reading it again I was able to pick it back and keep reading. I am anxious to read the rest of the series and follow the Beaumont family .
The author took my imagination and amused me until finishing to the peek of the next book, "The Playboy's Proposition". The storyline, characters and plot delighted.
Could not put this book down! I cannot wait to finish the others. I found another great author. Storyline on point and so are the characters. I dare anyone to read these books. You will not be disappointed!!!
I have read other book's in the Beaumont series but somehow missed books one and two. I was delighted with book one and I am about to start reading book two.
This was a great story but Brenna was so immature at times and a whiner. I'm glad Jabarie had the patience to continue. People should always talk things out.
This was an ok love story about Jabari and Brenna...This is the first story in the beaumont series....This is one of those stories where you can't wait to find out whats gonna happen next....but at times I felt like it was repeating a lot of the same issues and scenes...I started to get a little bored with it...but overall I love the way it ended, I really thought it was cute...Brenna at times seemed a little dramatic to me...I felt as if she was over the top with her whole relationship with Jabari...Jabari was portrayed as a cutie in this story...I loved his go get her attitude. This is not one of my favorite stories by Angie Daniels...but I am a huge fan of hers...This story touched on two characters Jace and Sheyna...whom were their two friends in the story...They were more interesting to me...I'm gonna read the next installment because I was told she would be writing about the two of them...they seem as if they will have a little more spice and drama...Overall I will rate this a good read...
Definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the Beaumont series. This was a great start to a wonderful tale of lost love being recaptured. And as I kept reading and enjoying the details and the scenery of the small town of Sheraton, I almost forgot that the town was imaginary, it seemed so real. I loved Jabarie's character and the way he fought and refused to give up on Brenna and their love. Although, I thought Brenna was a fool to even consider not getting back with Jabarie, I totally empathized with her fear of another broken heart, but the man was putting it all on the line for her, I don't know how she fought her love for him as long as she did...me I would have broken down after the passion-filled weekend on the yacht. And can't wait to see what happens between Jace and Sheyna...the sparks were defintely flying between the two of them. That's going to be a very intense romantic tale.
here did it all go wrong five years ago Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2022
I loved this was a second chance romance for two young people that went through a lot with each other. One lie, one misconception, two interfering people change the course of two people meant to be together and their lives. Brenna Gathers did not expect to return go Sheraton Beach. She started her life over in Texas and expected it to be the course of her future. Jabarie Beaumont did not think he would see Brenna again. Then one day on his way to work up he looks and there she is standing on a ladder in the bookstore window. There began their journey back to each other. With the help of two more interfering individuals.
Their love was meant to happen. Their love went across state lines and time apart. Brenna and Jabarie had a collision course coming up and they would meet it head on with several speed bumps placed in the way.
I just wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. Jabarie Beaumont and Brenna Gathers were good friends since they were fourteen years as they grew older they fell deeply in love. Brenna's mother Shaunda had her a seventeen and had her own issues with numerous affaires with rich or married men. Jabarie's parents did not want him to marry someone that was beneath him. His parents had they lawyer trick her into taking a large sum of money she moved to Dallas and open her own book store. Due to her beloved aunt Nellie's illness she returned to Sheraton Beach. Jabarie who deeply loves her spends the rest of the story winning her love back doing some of the nicest things. Very good read.
Brenna and Jabarie were to be married 5 years ago, but interference by his parents forced Brenna to leave him at the altar. When Brenna comes back to town to help her aunt while she's recuperating from an ankle injury, the passion between them reignites.
Great story! I kept wanting to Brenna to just let down her guard down, once Jabarie confessed to still loving her, but she just kept holding on to her anger, resentment, and fear, that I thought she would never break down and admit to still loving him as well.
Honorable mention. Jace and Sheyna! They are hilarious! And the the strip spades game. OMG I was laughing so hard, I almost cried. That scene reminded me of my days in college.
I liked this book but I found it a little frustrating Brenna got on my last nerve the reasons she kept saying no after she had sex with Jarbie and kept doing were just childish. I believe if the author had written this book this year it would be a much better book because her writing is much better than this now, but this book is pretty good. The couple is very passionate but the story just did not make sense to me.
Jabarie and Brenna had a love that was awesome. Until something went wrong. Jabarie was never the same and Brenna was just running. Then they meet again only to find out the truth about what went wrong. Jabarie never a quitter and Brenna being stubborn, they find a way back to each other. But, not without complications.
